Disable pop-ups; or enable pop-up blocker...or I will stop using FireFox

Every page on Mozilla FireFox has pictures and moving images and advertisements and junk pop-up spam all over the page (at least 9 boxes of JUNK all over each page, that "frame" the page---..3 on the left..3 on the right...3 on the top...leaving only a tiny window view of the actual website or webpage I am intending to visit. I've already gone into my FireFox settings and selected disable popups...prevent popup blocker...been all through my FireFox settings, etc.
I use Google Chrome and Windows Internet Explorer as internet web browsers...and do not experience those annoying issues with Google Chrome or Windows Explorer. I have my firewall settings set to "high" and have a security system in place. It's only my experience that when I open Mozilla Firefox...there are "blinking captions" and pictures all over the page. Even if I lightly scroll over them, sometimes, it will automatically open a new window, and cause a complete disruption and interruption to my business and internet experience. I am ready to uninstall Mozilla Firefox and tell everyone I know not to use Firefox, at this point, because it is full of spam and security risks.
Do you have any solutions to offer/provide...and within a timely matter?
If I do not receive a valid response within a week, I will proceed with uninstalling and suggest that others do the same.
Thanks.

That's pretty extreme. I don't think I've read about any other reports that bad.
As a quick test of whether it might be caused by an add-on, could you go through these screens and disable everything except Flash (Shockwave Flash 11.6):
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category<br>
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Does that make any difference?
Also, if you are using custom connection settings, try changing those here:
(WIN) orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced<br>
(MAC) Firefox > Preferences > Advanced<br>
(LINUX) Edit > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab, click the Settings button. To use the default connection used by IE, choose "No Proxy" or "Use System proxy settings". You may have to restart Firefox before that takes effect.
If none of that helps:
Could you describe the sequence of events leading up to this problem. When does the trouble start and can you associate it with following links, using bookmarks, typed URLs, etc.? For example, when you first start Firefox, do you get a normal about:home Firefox start page, or is it already crawling with ads? If you go directly to a link like https://www.google.com/ does it appear correctly?

Hi Lowell,
I don't know if you have the popup blocker turned on (nor if it works for audio), but if not, try it: Firefox menu > Preferences > Content > Block Popups.

• How Do I STOP pop ups FROM enabled when I Have disabled them to pop up it happens when I am workin on an important document a real pain

I have i web based stock system and it requires pop ups I have enabled for the pop ups and things work fine the all of a sudden my pop ups are blocked and the only way to continue I have to reboot my computer

Hello fisherman66,
Firefox usually doesn't block pop-ups, especially if you allow them, but extensions and some security software can block pop-ups.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

• How to stop full page pop ups that bypass pop up blocking

I am getting pop ups that cover 3/4 of my screen These pop ups can be for gaming sites or advertising tool boxes. all and anything can be popping up.It usually happens with my local newspaper in Australia but the sites are overseas. If I go to a gaming site like Slingo which is in the USA I realise I have to allow the pop ups as they help pay for the free games.Their pop up do not interfere with what you are doing whereas the ones I am getting most certainly do.My pop up blocker is turned on but these are getting past it somehow. It was so bad I had to resort to IE and I loathe IE.

Hi,
In System Preferences>Network, highlight or Show Internal Modem>PPP tab>PPP Options button... Prompt every xx minutes.

• Firefox won't open pop-ups even though pop-up blocker is off.

Hello,
I'm a website designer using ff 3.6.13 on XP sp3 platform. FF is very temperamental with pop-ups so I shut off Pop-up blocker. Regardless of blocker being off, pop-ups are still blocked on a site I'm working on. Until recently, these Pop-up links used to work well in FF. They still work great in Chrome and IE.
My Firewall program does not have pop-up blocker:
An example of the pop-up is located on the "download" link at the top of this page listed below:

There is a fix for Dreamweaver, so it works in Firefox 3.6+ versions:
http://solutions.marketingmedley.com/
There is a $5.00 fee for that Dreamweaver fix. That website and the fix are not associated with Mozilla in any manner. Support for that fix is provided by that that website via email.

• Pop ups banners nothing seems to block them

Hello,
I really hope someone can help me with this!
I just got a new macbook. And all these pop ups and banners show up, everywhere. It's really getting on my nerves. I deleted plug ins, I've tried adblocker, I changed my settings for blocking pop ups. But nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have a idea or suggestion how to get rid of them?
Thank you!

What does that pop-up show?

• Since upgrading to 3.6.3, I have 3 problems: frequent crashes, frequent "unresponsive script" messages, and frequent pop-ups, even with pop-up blocker turned on.

Crashes are pretty random - can't link them to any particular site or action. The unresponsive script messages mostly come from e-mail sites (yahoo, gmail). Pop-ups are frequent and annoying, and may be causing some of the crashes.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== I upgraded to version 3.6.3

I have the same problem and it's really frustating - although my main browser is Google Chrome, I use Firefox for all the RSS feeds that I subscribe to and sites that only have Firefox plug-ins. Will Mozilla FIrefox get this fixed with a newer version soon?

• Tool bar "pop-ups" won't pop. How do I fix this?

I started having the problem in Adobe Fireworks CS5. I upgraded to CC and CS-6 Fireworks and I'm still having the same problems. I just tried Illustrator and Photoshsop and the toolbars there are broken as well.  All of my pop-ups are locked up. They won't pop-up with other items to switch over to.  I can find no fix for it.  Any tool where you can change how that tool functions does not pop-up.
Any ideas?

Turn off Spotify (which is known for incompatibility with Fireworks), and check if you have Chrome running with the Google Play Music add-on.
If that does not resolve your issues, try turning off all other applications one by one.
Fireworks is no longer maintained, supported, or developed (since May 2013) by Adobe, and compatibility issues are bound to happen at this point.

• This is dumb: Videos won't play unless I disable Realplayer in ALL browsers. This means I simply won't use Firefox anymore except to test web pages. Wow, IE is

I tried disabling the Download video feature in RealPlayer Plus just for just Firefox. videos still will not play. The only way they will play is if I disable the feature for ALL browsers. I have found this to be true on multiple computers and other people have experienced this as well. I can deal with it if Firefox has trouble with RealPlayer, a product I paid for, but why do they care what I use in other browsers? This is unacceptable. Especially since there are all kinds of cheap extensions that do the same thing as RealPlayer but not as well. See ya -- for testing purposes only from now on. My web sites will all note works best with anything BUT Firefox.

Hi nomadsjangle,
<u>Short answer,</u> downgrade to Flash 10.3, Firefox should then work ok, and hopefully RealPlayer will be fully functional.<br/>For instructions see flash 11.3 crashes
Sorry you are having problems. I am not sure why you decided to blame Firerfox for this problem.
If you pay for and install RealPlayer why do you blame Firefox when you need to uninstall it to play video ? Why not blame RealPlayer, FlashPlayer, or even another browser!
This is a known issue and developers from Firefox, Flash and Realplayer have been involved with this for a few weeks. There have been a few changes in that time but no full solution that suits everyone is available, or likely in the immediate future AFAIK.
I suspect your problem is due to the fact that FlashPlayer 11.3 introduced a security feature known as protected mode. (Flash 11.3 may also have other issues with Firefox) RealPlayer (certainly the versions current when Flash11.3 was released) has problems with this. Real player is or was causing problems with use of Flash to view videos on Firefox with Flash 11.3.
Note FlashPlayer will be installed on the Operating System as a plugin, and may be used by more than one browser (although it needs different software for IE).
Downgrade Flash to 10.3 then if you still have problems post back, confirm the Flash Player version you have now,and the RealPlayer version.
Note
* if you use the Adobe uninstaller you may need to reinstall FlashPlayer on IE
* take care not to follow advice from plugincheck FlashPlayer etc to upgrade to the latest version, until this issue is resolved.
* this is a temporary solution, you should upgrade again once this is resolved.

• Firefox 3.6.10 update won't load on restart (tried many times) and exits after warning to restart again - how to disable warning so don't have to start twice every time I use Firefox?

I regret agreeing to download Firefox 3.6.10 update, as it is somehow corrupted, and will not load when I restart. Subsequently, every time I start Firefox, it warns "Update Ready to Install", then when I don't restart (if I restart, it won't load) it exits, and I have to start Firefox a second time. Then it works without the warning, but when I exit and start Firefox again, the warning returns and the cycle repeats. This is such a nuisance I have gone back (reluctantly) to Explorer. Is there anyway for me to get rid of this corrupted update and go back to before I downloaded the fateful update?

• How do I stop the Firefox pop ups on the Firefox 4 homepage, now?

I uploaded the new Firefox 4. My default page now just appears with non-stop pop-ups that ask me to be sent to various places to learn stuff. There seems to be no way to get rid of them. I will stop using Firefox altogether if I cannot.
Here is a sample of text within the box. There are embedded links that take me to the site if I click. If this one does not pop up another one does. They seem endless. I don't want them.
Take Firefox 4 anywhere you go! Firefox 4 for Android and Maemo is live and ready for you to enjoy. Get it now.
I do not want it or anything else now! I just want a home page without demands. How do I get rid of these pop up boxes. Or should I just go to explorer. By the way, I went through the procedures to stop Firefox pop ups and it had no effect whatsoever and was unclear about how to fix the problem.
Help! Thanks

What the hell are you talking about? I have the same problem and this has nothing to do with malware or bad websites. I just upgraded to firefox 4, and everytime I reload google home page (house icon), mozilla posts and displays a stupid advertising message right below the google search bar (incorporated into google code page display). Message such as "Take Firefox 4 anywhere you go! Firefox 4 for Android and Maemo is live and ready for you to enjoy. Get it now - you like firefox 4? learn more etc...". Refresh google.com on f4 and you'll see them too. I don't know how you browse but you must have less sophisticated habits.
This can get very aggravating for people that use very often the refresh icon in order to refresh or launch a new search, which makes more sense for me for a few reasons:
I like to be looking at the center point of my screen and not on the little Google window on the top right. I'm not looking INTO my screen's corners. But INTO my screen.
I very often refresh, almost in between every page since I do rarely navigates from one page to another, but usually launch my own search.
I do a lot of searches. Image... text.. articles. Mostly worked-based.
I have this habit and I am not going to drop it.
Anyway.. Please drop the condescending "buddy" every two lines, and be assured that it is a Firefox problem. I have the same problem as drmiller333.
Does anyone have found a way to stop this?
Does it stops after a few days?
I just downgraded back to firefox 3.6. I would like to benefit the new engine and updates coming with f4 but I won't as long as Mozilla keeps posting those aggravating messages. I don't give a f... about "android, maemo" or "how to learn more about how awesome is mozilla".
I may move to chrome is they don't do something for it.

• How do I enable pop-ups which blocked in my firefox 6.0.2 even after putting in exceptions or Block Pop-up widow is unchecked.

I have tried both the options :
1. First I blocked Pop-ups at Tools->Options->Content-> Block Pop-up window by checking it and then entering Exceptions.
2. I unchecked Pop-up window to allow the pop-ups at all times.
I checked the results after restarting the Firefox browser, not only once but many a times ( over a period of time).
My Firefox does not allow Pop-ups. I am unable to use this browser for many a sites.
Now the browser does not remember the previous session and I need to open all the tabs manually, one by one each time I close and reopen the browser.

Yes all that happened to me [but on FB as I rarely use twitter] . It was browser hijacking. I even commented about it on FB but no one saw the images except me.
