Disable Printing Dialogue in Adobe Reader

I'm looking for a way to totally block/hide the printing dialogue in Adobe Reader 7.0.
As far as I know the only way to do this is to drop a script in the JavaScript folder to manipulate the whole application (catching the application initialization event). Is this right?
I can't create my own dialogs and printing methods via an embedded script because I'm dealing only with the Reader.
Can anyone provide some hints how to realise that?

> I can't create my own dialogs and printing methods via an embedded script because I'm dealing only with the Reader.
You can still develop plug-ins for Reader that will override the standard print dialog and replace it with your own. There is a document called "Developing for Adobe Reader" that comes with the SDK. Find it here:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/reader_overview.pdf
With JavaScript, you cannot prevent the print dialog from coming up if the user click on File > Print or the Print button.
You can, from a folder-level script, create your own silent print function, but you cannot replace the existing print functions with it from JavaScript. This can only be done from a plug-in. You could create another button or menu item that calls your silent print function, but the original interactive methods would still be there for the user to use if they wanted.

  • Duplex Printing Problem in Adobe Reader X (Mac)

My normal printer setting is for duplex printing. However, Adobe Reader X will only print on one side of the paper.. This is on a MacPro under Mac OSX 10.6.6 and Adobe Reader X Version 10.0.1 printing to a Canon IP4500 inkjet printer. Other applications duplex fine.
Any one else with this problem? Fixes or workarounds?

After having the problem / aggravation, I went through each area trying to
learn how to get past it.  Finally, I checkmarked 3x "Don't Show Me This Again"
Then I established a default printer thereby forcing Adobe to retain print preferences
instead of  defaulting to "Any Printer" and losing custom settings
STEPS I TOOK (you may know of something faster, easier?)
CTRL P  or  File, Print to receive standard print dialogue
Within "Printer:"  use drop down to select  "PRINT & FAX Preferences...."
Note: You can set print & fax preferences thru System Preferences, but for
    now we're here
Select the printer you will normally use and set up a default printer (for Adobe)
If the Lock at bottom left is closed it will require the system admin ID and PWD
to unlock/lock in order to make changes :-)
Once finished close this (top left)
You will be returned to this panel
To the right of the "Printer:" drop down is the arrow that expands your options,
make sure it is aiming UP
Middle of screen is "Layout"  Select the drop down and select "Two-Sided Printing"
Look at the next screen image posted below and you will see there's more steps to
    follow for two sided printing
    Check mark "Print Both Sides"
By Re-Opening the Drop down now showing "Two-Side Printing", you can of
course adjust other items while here
Paper Type/Quality allows you to select items such as print quality, color settings
Select "Print" (bottom right of screen) to return to Adobe Reader Print Page
Save time by opening the "Presets:" dropdown and save this as a custom print setup name
       i.e.  grayscale_DblSided, Color_DblSided...
Finally, Check Mark  "Reverse Pages" to print Back to Front and help Adobe
not to print a single sided first page and double sided pages for the others... Nice!
It's time to press "OK" and hover over the printer to ensure Adobe didn't send
instructions to print your 100 single side pages despite all best efforts
Since going through this rigamarole I have not had to reset it every time

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Can you print comments in Adobe Reader 8?

I have a PDF document that has several comments ("sticky notes") added to it. I need to be able to print the document with the comments. However, I can't seem to find a way to do this. I've been searching online, but still can't find a solution.
I have gone into print settings and selected 'Document and Markups', but still the comments don't print. Another site said to go to Edit > Preferences > Commenting > Print Notes and Popups , but I don't have a "Commenting" option.
I don't understand why I would be able to add comments, but not be able to print them. I've checked the security on the document, and it's set as "Commenting Allowed". So I'm all out of ideas. Do I have to have Adobe Professional in order to print comments?

Hi, I found this on Adobe's site. Give it a try.
    Cheers,
    Jenny
    Windows:
In order to print comments from Adobe Reader 6, 7, or 8 you need to change a registry key. Please note that you edit the registry at your own risk.
Open the registry editor and browse to the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ADOBE\Acrobat Reader\6.0(or7.0, or 8.0)\Annots\cPrefs
Double click the 'bprintCommentPopups' key and change the value to 1
For Adobe Reader 8 you will need to add the key manually.
    Add the following Reg key:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\8.0\Annots\cPrefs]
    "bprintCommentPopups"=dword:00000001

  • Having nav buttons outside print area in adobe reader

I am building a parts manual and want my nav buttons off to the side of the 8.5"x11" document in sidebars. Easy to accomplish in Indesign but when exported to pdf , the print feature in Adobe reader prints the total width of the document. I want the customer when select print to just print the center frame (no nav buttons)and not have to set up crops etc for printing. Ive seen parts manuals like this and am having a hard time accomplishing this myself. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Problem printing patterns with Adobe Reader 9

    Hello all
We have a mix environment of Windows 7/Vista with Adobe Reader 9.2 and Windows XP/2k with Adobe Reader 8.1.7. Documents including charts with patterns created with the option Save as PDF from Word 2007(SP2) look and print fine with Adobe Reader 8, but the same documents look and print the patterns a lot more compressed with Adobe Reader 9. All computers print to the same printers with the same print drivers (a windows print server). Attached is a sample PDF file. I've installed Adobe Reader 9.2 also on Win2k and WinXP computers with the same results, so the problem doesn't come from the OS.
Any idea on what's wrong with Adobe Reader 9? Is it a configuration problem or defaults changed in Adobe Reader 9?
    Thanks in advance.

You need to use Adobe Acrobat; Adobe Reader does not support editing.

  • Printing issues with Adobe Reader

I am having a problem printing from my Adobe Reader 9.  When I print from a PDF the print is backwards.

I'm getting the same issue on some of the computers at my work.
We're all using Acrobat Standard 8.2.2 and Windows 7.
I'm not 100% whether the files have been created in In Design but they certainly look like they probably have.
Seems like Acrobat 8 (and various updates since) are not very compatible with Windows 7. I've been having plenty of headaches since we upgraded the operating systems 2 weeks ago.

  • Capture print event in adobe reader and show a message

    Hi,
We have only adobe reader installed on our machines, is it possible to use the sdk to capture the print event in adobe reader? Our goal is to show a message to the users before the print dialog appears and
as soon as the user prints a document?
    Is it possible?
    Thank you,
    Peter

You can certainly develop a plugin for Adobe Reader that would do this.
Plugins are written in C/C++ and, for Reader, you will need to obtain a license & associated key from Adobe to enable that plugin.   Details are all in the SDK.

  • How to disable overprint feature in Adobe Reader 9 or 10 when printing?

    Hi,
I have a PDF document with overlapping objects (black text on top of pink text).  When I print from Adobe Reader 9 or 10 using any PCL color print driver (Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit), the pink text shows through, regardless of "Use Overprint Preview" setting in Adobe Reader Preferences.  Is there a way to turn this off for printing using any setting in Adobe Reader 9 or 10?  I don't want the pink text to show through, which is what is displayed on screen when I set "User Overprint Preview" to Never.  Print As Image didn't help either.
    Thanks!

You are, I'm afraid, chasing an impossible security that cannot exist. Many have sought this, but it just isn't there -- and there is so much more than the save button involved.
If you are a big enterprise with sensitive information consider DRM solutions ($$$$+).

  • Printing Issue with Adobe Reader 11.0.01 with collate/stapling

    Hello,
If I send a Word document to the copier with instruction to make 6 copies, collate and staple it works fine. If I send a PDF document with the same instructions it prints all the copies out and staples them all together.
I have reinstalled Adobe Reader and my printer driver.  I run on Windows XP Pro SP3 (fully patched) and using a Xerox 7435 printer.

Can you open Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Default Printer problems in Adobe Reader

    Repost:
I have over 50 users with Adobe Reader 9.3.3 installed.  Every morning someone calls and says Adobe Reader reported that there are no printers installed on their system.  When I check their PC I find that the default printer setting has been removed and there is no default printer set.  Once reset they have no problems with the printers or their other applications.  This only happens when trying to print a PDF.
Why is Adobe Reader removing the default printer setting?
The driver has NOT been removed.  Just the default setting.
In very PLAIN English the default printer check mark is GONE.

This is a strange issue indeed.!!!
Can you please let me know, whether the problem reproducible only after opening any specific file? It might be that the file is running a JavaScript on the system causing the default printer setting to be removed.
To verify the same, you can try and disable JavaScript in Adobe Reader 9.3.3 on some of the client systems, and then observe whether the problem is reproducible on their systems as they go around their normal work. (To disable javscript, goto Edit > Preferences > JavaScript and uncheck Enable Acrobat JavaScript)
If any client system tries to open a file which is trying to run a JavaScript code, they will get a Yellow message Bar on top of their page, asking for permissions to run JavaScript. This will give you an idea about the problematic file.
Hope this helps you zero in on the issue..

  • Can't print PDFs from Adobe Reader 7!

A few months ago I started having problems printing from Adobe Reader 7.
I can view PDFs fine. I can also view PDFs online through Safari with the Adobe Reader plug in.
What I've resorted to doing is using Preview to open PDFs that I've saved from Adobe Reader, and I can print fine through Preview.
But that isn't quite a good fix for me!
I can also print documents in other formats from plenty of other applications, so I know it's not a printer-talking-to-Mac issue.
What happens is this - I have a PDF open in Adobe and send it to print. The printer comes up in the dock like its working. After an appropriate amount of time (the time one would expect the document to print), it disappears from the dock as though it is done printing. But no document ever prints. And the printer never displays that it is receiving information to print.
Yesterday I spent a good chunk of time working on this problem to no avail.
I ran "detect and repair" in Adobe Reader but no problems were found.
I threw away Adobe Reader 7 (I think I was up to 7.0.7) and its preferences and other files and downloaded and installed Reader 6. I still couldn't print from Reader.
I installed patches and updates incrementally to from Reader 6 to 7.0.5 by allowing Reader to update itself, but that didn't help.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer. That didn't fix the problem.
I tried printing the document through Reader as an "image," but it just crashed the Reader.
I also downloaded and ran "Printer Setup Repair" (something I saw suggested in someone else's post about an Adobe print problem) but that didn't help matters either.
I'm sort of stumped. I'll also post this to the Adobe forums, but from what I've seen the folks over there are not really Mac users.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Cheers!

    Ann,
A few more thoughts or your dilemma...You might try looking at your system.log with the utility Console to see if it might give you a clue to the problem. (Not that I understand all the stuff in those logs, but when MS Word and Quark did not produce printouts, the Console log named the problem fonts.)
The culprit may be the Adobe Reader PPD or Plugin. The path to those are HD/Library/Printers/PPDs/Resources/en.lproj/ADPDF7.PPD and HD/Library/Printers/PPD Plugins/AdobePDFPDE700.plugin. So if you try deleting Adobe Reader stuff again, be sure to delete those docs too, before re-installing.
Note: I use Acorbat Pro 7 so I do not know if the filenames ADPDF7.PPD and AdobePDFPDE700.plugin are the same for Reader, but the paths might be helpful.
Before uninstalling and re-installing both Adobe PhotoShop and Reader, I would suggest that you check the integrity of you hard drive. Overtime, stuff gets out of place and some applications are more sensitive than others. If there is something wrong on the hard drive, replacing the applications will still produce the same problem. Repairing disk is different from repairing permissions. As in my previous post, boot up your computer with your OS 10.3.x Install Disk 1 and launch the Disk Utility app from the CD. Click on Repair Disk...
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't print A4 documents adobe reader 10.1.3

    Hi Guys,
I have a strange problem where I cannot change the default page size.
All other programs print ok to A4 the problem lies within adobe reader 10.1.3.
Let me run you through what happens exactly when I try.
I open a pdf document and go to print. I check all the settings and they are all on A4 apart from in the preview pane on the right hand side. It should be 8.26 x 11.7 (A4) but instead it reads 8.5 x 11 (letter).
I try to print and absolutely nothing happens. I have tried different printers.
I have been through all the preferences and settings on my machine but all say A4.
Is this a simple setting that I am missing somewhere? On other machines in the organisation the correct size displays and therefore print with no problems.
I hope someone can help me.
    Cheers.

I'm having a similar problem.  What I'm trying to do is print a Microsoft Word 2010 document with paper size A4 to Adobe pdf document paper size A4.  I select "A4" for paper size in word and then print using Adobe print standard settings.  What I get is an Adobe document in 8.5 x 11.  This is an issue because these are patent documents for electronic filing in WIPO and they must be in A4 size.
If I select other sizes in Word, such as A3, Tabloid, and Legal, the Adobe file is in the same paper size.
If I print a Powerpoint document in A4 to Adobe, the Adobe file page size is A4.
If I print an Adobe file in 8.5 x11 to Adobe A4, the second Adobe file is in A4.
    Any help?

  • Partial printing only from Adobe Reader via Server 2008 print spooler

    Hi there,
We've recently set up a new print server for our school. It's running Windows Server 2008 (not R2) 32 bit. We have 8 printers, which are all HP LaserJet P2035n.
All printing works fine, except for PDF files from Adobe Reader. PDF files from Adobe Reader go through the print server with no visible errors, however they print strangely.
Often there will be a blank page at the start. Generally they will not print all pages (e.g. 4/10 or so) and they will cause the printer to error.
We do not get this problem using other PDF readers or with the Google Chrome PDF plugin.
Could you please provide some troubleshooting steps? Based on elimination, it seems to be something to do with the way Adobe Reader communicates with either the print server or the printer, causing some type of malformed request.
    Thanks,
    Andrew
