"Disable Remote" has disappeared, but remote still working

I have a first generation MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.1. Under the Security preferences in the General pane, I should be seeing an option that says "Disable Remote control infrared receiver". However, in my main login account I do not see it.
I have created another administrator account and in that account, I CAN see the "Disable Remote control infrared receiver". This suggests to me that my main account has some corrupted preferences somewhere.
What preferences file should I delete? Or how do I solve this problem so that I can see the "Disable remote control infrared receiver" again?
By the way, my remote control is working.

I have the same problem which came after installation of Snow Leopard. Under Leopard I had the remote disabled and now the option to disable/enable is gone (my remote is not working with the machine right now, but I presume that is because I had the remote disabled). I tried deleting the file mentioned in the response but after a restart nothing has changed...
I have checked the system profile and the IR is still mentioned under USB.
Any other ideas?

My Ipodtouch 2nd gen has this problem as of today. Nothing has changed recently, no software update or so. The wi-fi icon (upper left corner of screen next to iPod) does no longer show, although I still have connection to the internet (new pages do open). I tried your (Illaas) suggestion resetting the iPod without success.
I also removed the settings for my prefered network (forget this network) and then reselected this network and entered all required settings. I also restarted my wi-fi router. No success at all. the wi-fi icon won't show.

I'm a newbie to the boards, but not a Mac novice... even so, I am stumped!
I bought my shiny new Airport Extreme Base Station yesterday, and straight out of the box (with the new Admin utility installed on my Mac, and firmware updated to 7.1.1) I couldn't see the new base station. Not even a message to say it needed to be set up, or anything.
To configure it, I had to connect by cable directly from my Mac to the base station.
After setup, I can wirelessly connect to the internet via the base station using my PC (i.e. the base station name appears in my list, I can connect to it, and use it), but I can't on my Mac - it doesn't appear, even if I type in the name as a "closed network" (which it isn't anyway).
Even more bizarre, even though my PC can connect to the base station, when using the admin utility on there it STILL doesn't find it!
I have the latest version of the admin utility, and firmware, installed.
So, to summarise (as I have waffled a bit!):
- I can't connect to my base station wirelessly using the Admin utility provided, on either my Mac or PC
- I can't find the network listed in my Airport list on my Mac at all, and typing the name as a closed network doesn't help
- I can connect and use the internet wirelessly from my PC, via the base station
- I can use both machines via base station when connected with cables (surely not the point of having wireless, eh?)
And I'm not even going to begin with extending the network with my old Airport Express... the utility can't see that either!
Help! Any ideas folks? Thanks in advance.

I figured it out; it was a configuration issue.
The Airport Express is used in two locations. At home, as a remote base station on WDS, and in my camper in Maine where the flashing yellow light issue began. Here's how I fixed it:
- AirPort Admin Utility/Menu Bar/Base Station/Profiles.../Add (profile). (Give the new profile a unique base station name in the main window under the Airport tab. You will be able to choose the original profile again, if necessary, by navigating to Profiles per first line of this paragraph.)
- Then, in the new profile, click on the WDS tab and uncheck "Enable this base station as a WDS." Now, click on "Update" in the lower right corner to restart the AE.
Wahlah! My slow flashing yellow light immediately turned into a rapid flashing green light, which had been toggled in Base Station Options.../Status Light in the original profile.
That's it. Hope this helps someone else with the same issue.

So after reading other's threads on this issue, I learned that by turning icloud's calendar sync option off and then on again, it re-sets your calendar and pesky old things go away like magic. Thanks to others on this forum for sharing their expertise! I'm all set now.

No. iPads that have any type of denting or physical damage (old or new) are not covered under the warranty. Apple would have no way of determining when the damage was done or if that damage caused your present issue.
I believe that once they see physical damage, their reasoning for voiding the warranty would be that visible, physical damage, irregardless of when it ocurred.

Try plugging it it to see if the screen comes on. If not then you're screen is damaged.

The iPad screen has frozen but Siri is working

Got a new ipad 3 and it has frozen. The screen is stuck but Siri still works.
I've tried the 10 second reset.

Hi Sean,
If it fried the charger, then there is something seriously wrong with it. You need to take it to an Apple Store to have it looked at, and be prepared to be told that you will need to get a new phone. If you can't charge it, it will be useless to you in a matter of days anyway. Also, do not even try to hook it up to your computer....you will probably cause serious damage to the computer and be even worse off than you are now.
Sorry about your troubles. But for your own safety, you need to have the phone looked at! Don't wait - if you wait until it has no more charge left, then no one will be able to recharge it to look at it....

Well, if you've indeed tried EVERYTHING, then you'll need to bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.

I dont get sound for videos, games and music but ringtone still works. When i press volume buttons on side of phone i only get the picture of the nell and no little dots underneath. This is on my iphone 4s and ipad. It happened at the same time.

Recurring theme with the 4s losing alerts except for the phone ringing. Most complaints seem to center on the 7.1 upgrade. The fix is dodgy, putting in a charger, playing a you tube video then pulling out the charger and wiggling it until you get the sound back. When you get the sound back, the volume buttons start to work again. Alternate solutions involve cleaning the docking port with a toothbrush, running a pick over the electrodes etc.
