Disable screen rotation

I would just like to request that the apple app developers in charge of iBook add a feature in the app that locks the screen orientation to the users preference like the old app stanza did in ios3-ios5 as there are many places I do like to rotate but I get sick of turning the orientation lock on and off for the whole phone every time I go to read especially in bed

    Hi,
As a alternative way, please check wehther you have some video\graphic related software installed in your system, they're always used to control these graphic settings or some hotkey settings, but all depends on the PC model or the graphic card mdoel.

  • What's going on with ios8... Screen rotate does not work anymore, wifi doesn't work very well anymore and apps are crashing or running slow... Come on Apple sort this mess out

ssince I updated my iPhone 5s to ios8 ive had nothing but problems...
first the the screen rotation is not working... Checked the settings and  lock is off.... The wifi is intermittent, some times it works sometimes it doesn't....
the he iPhone is really slow now, like really labouring.... It hangs and crashes all the time.... I have to close apps down completely because they won't work from quick launch anymore.... Even writing this the phone is labouring.... It's like my old 48k spectrum.... I don't expect this from Apple and when you spend £400-500 on a phone you expect it to work and play propperly....  come on Apple you need to sort out this mess of a update.... Ios 7 was no bother......

Same issue here... iphone5S 64GB.  It's intermittent.  Sometimes the rotation works fine, sometimes it doesn't, but most of the time it doesn't work.
The first time I figured out it wasn't working was when all newly-taken photos and videos were showing up in portrait mode though I always hold in landscape mode when photographing.
Rotation lock is disabled (tried toggling it on and off).  Tried recalibrating the compass on a whim, no effect (although my compass seems to always require calibration when it's launched now).
This issue only started happening after upgrading to iOS8.  I did a reset/restore through iTunes rather than an OTA upgrade.
UPDATE - power-cycling the phone seems to fix it temporarily.

  • The screen rotation is locked... not sure how to get that unlocked?!

Hello, the screen rotation is locked on my ipod touch. I have no idea how it got that way and can not find how to turn it off.  Please help!

Double click on the home button to open the multitask bar, swipe to the right until you see the play controls for music, right next to it is the Orientaion lock icon. Tap on it to disable it, close the multitask bar again by clicking the home button.

  • Thinkpad Twist with Windows 7 - screen rotation

So a client of mine bought the Twist with Windows 8 on it and really did not like windows 8 and asked me to repalce the install with Windows 7, wiping out the drives .... I managed to get all but 2 devices identified and install, one has an ID of PNP0C40 which is related to a button and the other one PNP0C60 is related to a convertable laptop display sensor.
The PNP0C60 is likely related to my problem, no screen rotation.
Is there a driver for this sensor that might work with Windows 7?
If the answer is, we do not support windows 7, could someone reccomend a forum where folks are trying to downgrade the Twist to 7? my searches come up with mostly amazon reviews.
Thanks, if anyone needs help with any of the other drivers for Win 7 on the Twist ... I'd love to help
    Ken

I was in the same scenario, my company bought a Twist for testing but we want Windows 7 because we can't train everyone on using Windows 8.
I finally found a project on SourceForge that seems to be working great.

I had to install the ThinkVantage Active Protection System before the program would function.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014892
It's a simple install, you calibrate the different rotations of the laptop, read the README it will tell you how to get going, it takes 5 minutes.
I added it as a startup item for all users but I had to follow these instructions to get rid of a security prompt.

I've been testing it and it's almost better than using the built-in button because it's automatic.

  • Disabling auto rotate,Win 7,HP probook 470

As in the title,I have a "problem" with my newly bought Hp Probook 470.When I physically rotate the laptop, the screen rotates along with it.I have tried for hours looking in the internet and gathering information, but I can't seem to disable this thing.I don't have the "Enable" option in the screen resolution for some reason ( http://software.intel.com/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/arimage_0.png ),so I think this is the problem.
Is there anything else I can do ?

I've heard some guy fixed it on his 4740s by uninstalling HP 3D DriveGuard and rebooting. Perhaps it has something to do with the motion sensor, and the only one is used to trigger the DriveGuard.

  • Spectre X360 Screen rotation

Hi, I recently bought spectre X360 with windows 10, but the screen rotation is not working in tent and tablet mode.I have been trying to get a solution for this in display settings but Lock rotation of this display is ON and disabled. Therefore I cant even change it. Please let me know how to enable screen rotation.

I bought this laptop about 3 weeks ago. When running windows 8.1 the screen did rotate into portrait mode when turned, but only when the laptop was in the tablet formfactor. As long as the keyboard was still on, it would only flip 180 and not got into portrait mode.  Now that i am on win 10 i have the same issue as the OP. I applied the registry setting and the screen does rotate, but it does it in laptop and tablet mode (i am speaking of the physical mode, not the win 10 tablet mode). I dont like that it does it in laptop mode, but its better than nothing. I would like to see an official fix that also ungreyed the option as well.

  • Screen rotation not available (with rotation of tablet Hp Henvy x2)

Hello, When I turn my screen 90 °, the monitor will not switch. it remains always in landscape mode instead of going in portrait. In Settings> System> Display the "lock the screen rotation" is disabled. Thanks

Well, after searching every where, somewhere (not sure where now) I saw the suggestion to turn off bluetooth and NFC. I turned off both and it *seems* like the issue may be corrected. But what if I want touse a BT device, I guess I am stuck?
As to your questions, I my have changed to a larger mouse cursor, either that or the default cursor.
I think I may have had "mouse trails" clicked, not sure if that it the same as a mouse shadow?  Neither ofthese options seem to make a difference.
I had a standard Windows provided background for use, no personal photos.
Hopefully this partial fix (turning off the other settings) helps someone else. It seems to have fixed the problem for me, at least in the last 3-4 days since switching I have not noted a return of the problem.

I wish I were writing with a fix.  I, too, have a new X2 -- I like it very much.  I have not seen what you describe.
Instead, I have more questions;  I am intrigued.  I wonder if the way in which you have the system set is having an affect on the way it is behaving.
Do you see the problem regardless of which mouse pointer you set?
There are a variety of choices -- I use an extra large white arrow most of the time; sometimes I switch to a black cursor just for grins.  You can change the selectors, too.  Right-Click on the Background Screen and click Personalize ...
Are you using the entirely useless, but oh-so-pretty "mouse shadow"?
I am wondering if changing the pointer has had any effect on the disappearing act.
What about the background?  Are you using a personal photo?  Lots of colors?  Does changing the background make any difference?

  • HP Spectre x360 Battery Life/Screen Rotation/

I bought the HP Spectre x360 (Intel Core i5, 256 GB) and the battery life is just horrible. I use it for about 30 minutes and already 10% is gone. I read reviews on this and saw it would give 12.5 hours. I expected it to be about 9-10 hours but im only getting half of that. Also, after I upgraded to Windows 10, my screeens don't rotate when I'm in tablet mode. Help?

Ahmed and others, without doing too much digging, it appears that screen rotation in Windows 10, by default, can be enabled only in tablet mode. To get to tablet mode, open up the action centre, and the top left icon/button at the bottom of the screen is "Tablet mode". If it is a dark grey, then it is disabled. If you press it, it becomes a lighter grey and is enabled (you will also see a few different features in your taskbar). Once in tablet mode, you should be able to rotate the screen and Windows will correctly rotate the display for you. It does not seem to be as quick as it was in Windows 8.1. If it is not rotating, then try pressing the button labelled "Rotation lock" in the action centre. Hope that helps! On the battery side of things, I am getting decent hours out of my i7 model with the FHD screen. I can spend a day at work (school teacher) and come home with between 40 and 60% available. This would be after a good 5-6 hours of periodic use, sleeping in between, using the HP recommended power settings.

  • Screen rotation kills mouse on Thinkpad X220 tablet

Screen rotation with xrandr causes the screen to black.
Switching to the tty and back using Alt-Fx, gets the rendering back, but now the mouse click on the touchpad, stylus don't work anymore. I know xorg-server was updated recently, but I'm not entirely sure if this is related.
I got rid of my old xorg.conf.d files, and the problem persists. It's also does not seem to be related to xsetwacom.
I'd be very happy if someone knows of a way to fix this.
    (Sorry for the half-baked description.)

You're triggering Chiral Scrolling. You can disable it in the UltraNav control panel.

  • Screen rotation doesn't work on Dell Venue 11 Pro

I'm running Windows Technical Preview for Enterprise Build 9879 on a Dell Venue 11 Pro. It has the Intel Core-i5-4300Y processor and Intel HD graphics chipset.
All devices are recognized in Device Manager, but the screen does not rotate if I turn the tablet.
Is anyone else having issues with screen rotation?

I have Dell venue 11 pro 5130 version with the atom processor. And I think my tech preview just updated to the 9879 Build... I have only had tech preview installed less than a week.
The previous build I had (and I have no idea what the build was) Did rotate the screen just fine, but now I have to manually toggle the orientation.

In other words, can I have my screen rotate automatically as I hold my iPad in either portrait or landscape AND hear sounds from my apps at the same time?
Yes, you can. You can configure the Side Switch (above the volume button) either as Mute switch or Rotation lock.
Settings > General > Use Side Switch to: choose what you like the Side Switch to function as.

  • IPhone 5, Is there a way to stop screen rotation for specific apps?

The automatic screen rotation feature is useful - sometimes, and just plain annoying other times.  I prefer to read my e-mail in portrait mode, however the slightest movement or rotation while doing so will cause the screen to rotate (with the phone generally still in portrait position).  I then have to shake the phone to get it to rotate back.  This is very annoying.
I would like to be able to lock the screen rotation for only a single app (e.g. mail) while still keeping it active for the camera, or videos.  Many of the book programs that I use, have this feature built-in, however this question is for apps that do not have this built-in.
The built in rotation lock is all-or-nothing, and is generally a pain to use.  It adds another step to just about everything I do (If I read mail, then want to view a video, I have to go back and unlock it).
Is there a way to lock the screen rotation for a specific app?

I would have expected this function to be available in settings where the application specific settings are located.  (At least for the major applications like e-mail).
