Disable screenblanking on VT switch

I have two monitors and each is being driven by a different video card. When I boot up, the AGP card in my laptop drives the LCD in my laptop. When I startx, X takes over my PCI video card and external LCD as indicated in my xorg.conf. I can switch back to the console just fine with Ctrl+Alt+F{1-6} but when I do that, the external LCD goes blank. My internal LCD still shows a console and I can use it but I'd like X to persist so I can still see what's on the other monitor when I'm not using it. Does this make sense? Another problem is when I hit Ctrl+Alt+F7 to go back to X, X returns but the console I was looking at goes blank (obviously). Ultimately I'd like to be able to see a console not in use while X runs on the console that is in use. Does anyone know how this can be accomplished?

Oops, sorry i misunderstood your original post. Yes, definitely do not use "transport input none" as this will indeed lock you out of the switch.
Which IOS version are you running on the switch ?

How to disable Telnet on a switch

I would like to disable Telnet on a Cisco 3560G switch. I have seen all over the web that the way to it is by:
line vty 0 4
transport input ssh
However, this doesn't work for me. SSH is not a valid transport on my switch. The only allowable transports are "All", "None" or "telnet". If I try SSH it gives the invalid input error.
I'm assuming this is because SSH is defaulted on Catalyst switches, but how can I remove Telnet?

Disabling keepalive on IOS switches

Hi,
I have a gigastack configuration where the C2900XL have the "Keepalive not set" by default. Other C2950 have "keepalive 10 sec", all the interfaces are switchports configured as trunks
The Gigabit ethernet of C2950 go to "err-disable" status becasuse they see they own keepalive

The most common cause for "err-disable" log is "loopback detect" as a result of keeping keepalives enabled (default) and these packets momentarily looping back to the same port from which they originated.
The use of keepalives on the switches and routers are different. On 2950 & 3550,keepalives on ethernet interfaces are not used to determine the interface status like its done on the routers ethernet interfaces. Here, the keepalives are used solely for loop detection. The life of the keepalive packet is just across one link. The receiving switch drops the keepalive packets. Other mechanisms like sync, link loss etc are used to determine if the line partner is alive. So you can safely disable keepalives and the interface will go up or go down irrespective of the
keepalive setting.
Keepalives are essentialy used on layer 2 switches for detecting loops that Spanning Tree has not yet blocked, eg. due to lack of CPU resources. However, even disabling keepalives would not cause an issue since STP will eventually block redundant links, and keepalives pose more of a problem. And the use of keepalives to keep a link up at layer 2 is used
only by routers, so we can safely disable keepalives on the port.

SF300-24PP switch causing err-disable on some other switch Uplinks

This is something that happened as I was setting up a couple of these PoE SF300 switches for IP cameras.
We wanted to save a little money so we purchased a few of these switches to daisy-chain onto a couple of our 4507s to provide PoE support for IP cameras that are coming in. But an odd thing happened when I set one up and connected it.
I set up the SF300 switch with all FE ports set to access and for VLAN 18 (our camera VLAN). I then configured a Portchannel (PO2) and assigned GE1 and GE2 to it. I defined the allowed VLANs 10,14,18 on the Port Channel Interface definition. I also created an SVI Interface VLAN definition for our management address (on VLAN 10) to be able to SSH into the switch once it's on the network.
I did most of this thru the CLI and not the GUI.
I saved the config (copy run start) and turned off the switch then deployed it in the IDF closet. I powered it up and connected the GE1&2 ports to 2 Gig ports in the 4507 defined with PO2 - both with MODE=ON.
Well, as I found out later, my config changes never got saved and the GE1&2 because trunk ports, so when I plugged them in, They started acting independently. At about the same time another switch we have in our network (that is daisy-chained off a 3750 - 1 trunk port) suddenly had it's uplink put into ERR_DISABLE mode (we also had this occur with another 2 switches with a very similar config - Daisy-Chain).
Now , how my config never got saved issue, is not at the forefront of my mind as much as how did a couple of switch uplinks in another building go into ERR-DISABLE.
I know that our 4507s run rapid per-vlan STP+ and that the SP300 only runs Rapid STP, but this is a real mystery to us. If anyone has any ideas for tracking this down, please reply.

About the default settings. The switch comes with vlan1 as the default vlan for all traffic.
Here is a quick overview of the port settings
access - one vlan
trunk - multiple vlans
general - multiple vlans (had additional options)
When using the auto voice-vlan, you can have your port set as access for vlan 1 and when the switch see a phone connected, it will join the voice vlan also. This allow the ports to be dynamic. It is not necessary to do this. You can create all ports as trunk ports that are part of both your default vlan and your voice vlan.
The benifits of auto-voice vlan
-phones are discovered and joined to the vlan dynamically
-predetermined QoS settings
-security in that you can have your port set to access
This is a relatively basic overview.
As for the problem you are seeing. I would recommend that you check the firmware of the switch and upgrade if needed. While it may not have anything to do with the problem at hand, it will help prevent any future issues.
I would suggest disabling the Green Ethernet, which can be found under the port management section. If you continue to see the problem after that, I would recommend giving us a call at the support center. We will be able to look a little closer to what is happening.

Disable middle click application switcher?

I am trying to use a kensington mouse in Maya on a Macbook pro. However, Middle Click launches the application switcher even when in Maya. Does anyone know how to a) fix this or b) disable application switcher?

It will create a MouseWorks system preference where you can assign Middle-click to the middle button.

Manual focus switch is on the lens not the camera. Some lens have full manual focus; that mean even if you switch it to AF, you can still adjust manual focus. Did you turn the focus ring by mistake instead of zooming?

Disable cursor when tab-switching

Hi all,
Is there a possibility to disable cursor selection when changing apps with tab-switching, while the command key is pressed? When using a tablet it's extremely annoying since you have to lift the pen away every time. I'd like the list of app icons to ignore any movement of the cursor above it.

You can remove the checkmark on "Open Tabs" in the location bar settings.

Note that you can hold down the Alt or Shift key while an entry in the drop down list is highlighted to disable "Switch to tab" and see the URL of all entries instead.

* Cursor Right copies the highlighted URL to the location bar in case you want to edit it.

Can I disable 'digital output' and switch to internal speakers only?

Last month, a jack from a headphone broke off and got stuck in the audio input of my Macbook Pro.
They were able to get the broken peace out, but I think they damaged something in the input by pulling it out.

When I go to audio preferences I only see 'Digital Output' as an option. (not 'internal speakers')
The Macbook still thinks there's a jack inside.
Is there a way to switch on to Internal Speakers (because they DO work, but I cant enable them) by disabling the Digital Output?

Are you seeing a red light at the port? It can get stuck so that it still thinks the headphones are plugged in. Try taking another headphone jack and plugging it in a few times.

Yes. Here are three steps to consider when designing and coding support for the switch:
1) The visibility of the switch will probably want to be limited to a setup screen, so if you don't yet have such a screen, one should be added;

It sounds like this is happening when you send email from the device? If so, that sounds like the email auto-signature...have you looked there?
Hub > (3 dots at the bottom right) > Settings > Email Accounts > (select the email account) > (turn on/off Auto Sig, as well as adjust the auto-sig text)

How to disable FF & TB auto-switching to Work Offline?

WinXP SP3,
FF3.6.x,
TB3.1.x,
Always ON BB connection through Cable Co.,
WinXP is set to NEVER go dormant automatically (Manual shutdown only)
After some indeterminate period of inactivity, both FF and TB switch to Work Offline mode. Both start up online. This is a (several times) daily occurence. I don't find an obvious config setting. How do I stop this irritating behavior?

If you want to revert to the previous secure version, do the following. 
Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] and download it to the desktop. 
Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box). 
Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 
Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier. 
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

How do I disable the animation between switching Desktops in OS X ?

I find the usage of Desktops are real advantage when working on my new Macbook Pro.
What is frustrating is the animation when changing between desktops. How do I disable it?

I'm not sure how comfortable you are with the command line, but there is an option for you in the "zip" command line tool. Unfortunately, the version of zip installed with 10.4.7 does not seem to support the encryption option. Fortunately, you can build and install the latest version which does support this option.

Disable Wi-Fi hardware switch

On my laptop I have (as most of us do) a button for enabling wifi. By default its turned off after booting (does not preserve state), and I'd like it to be on.
Acceptable solutions include turning it on after startup by software, making wifi ignore state of rfkill (is this even possible?) or completely removing it from system.
Could you help me do any of this things ?

rfkill comes with two services, one to turn things on and one to turn things off... You should probably tell a bit mroe about your hardwre though becase some machines really have a physical switch that shuts down all functionality to the wireless card, while some )like mine) is a button that does a soft block. Rfkill can handle soft blocks but most of the time, hard blocks are beyond its control. So it is a soft block that you are experiencing, yes?

Why is the alarm function disabled when iPhone is switched off ?

We cannot explain why the iPhone doesn't have this function, but you should use it as wake up alarm turning on the airplane mode so nobody can bother you with calls or texts during your sleep, and when you wake up and your alarm sounds you could turn off the airplane mode.
