Disable Show content Guide at startup & Automatically update

Can I disable the setting 'Show content Guide at startup' from the 'Player Preferences...' menu. I know how to do it in the menu, but I want to change this option for 100 pc's at once.
Same problem for the 'Check for updates automatically' option in the 'Quicktime Preferences...' menu.
Is this possible via the registry or via a textfile?
Can someone help me, please?
Quicktime Player 7.0.3 on Windows XP Pro

rEFIt will basically do the same as holding the option key,I believe it's defaulted(?) to give the boot screen when you cold start showing any available boot drives, but it won't help with Windows auto restart after updating. There may be an option to do so as there's a lot more to rEFIt then I use so you may be able to have it show up at restarts also.
Sorry I can't help more....

  • Just updated DPS successfully but now my iPad Content Viewer isn't automatically updating.

    Hi Guys,
just did the update successfully and evrything seeems to be working fine within InDesign.
I have just added a new article to the folio I am working on but my iPad Content Viewer isn't checking for update automatically anymore, so I can view my new article.
    Any ideas why this happening?
It was working yesterday when I was using it.
Is there a way to force the ipad Content Viewer to check for updates?
Please help asap, as I have a college deadline on Monday and need to check everything is working okay.
    Thanks.

    Hi Bob,
I am new to DPS and this is my first time of creating folios, hence the deadline on Monday.
Please ignore my second post, as I had forgot to sign in again after reinstalling on my iPad.
Fingers crossed it does seem to be working again after the reinstall and I actually set all of the Version compatbilities to 24.
I'll keep you posted if there are any more problems.
    Thank you for your reply.

  • QuickTime Content Guide Appears Even When Disabled in Preferences

In QuickTime 7.7.5 running on Windows 8.1, I removed the check mark from Show Content Guide at startup. Nevertheless, the Content Guide still shows up when I start the QuickTime player, and when I check the Player Preferences I see that something put the check mark back. How can I be sure that the Content Guide will definitely not appear when QuickTime starts?

It sounds like a permissions issue. Try right clicking on the QuickTime Player icon and go to Properties. Then click on the Security tab to find out who owns QT and has Full Control.

  • Content Guide Does Not Launch with 7.1.3

I recently downloaded the latest Itunes and QuickTime 7.1.3 got installed along with it. When I launch QuickTime, it opens with the wording "Get Connected to the Internet for Your Guide to the Best in QuickTime Content." It always used to show me available songs, etc. I am always connected to the Internet through broadband cable and have made no changes. I have the player preferences set to "Show Content Guide at Startup." My other two computers continue to show the actual songs, etc. The player seems to play movies. What's up? Thanks.

My guess would be that a firewall or some other privacy filter or possibly antivirus or antispyware utility is blocking the ability of QuickTime Player to connect to Apple's server. Many such utilities and filters will erroneously consider an upgrade to an application as a new installation and so have to be reset to allow the connection again, so you may need to go into the settings of any such firewall/filter/utility and reallow QuickTime Player's connections.
    Hope this helps.

  • Content Guide won't display...

    Hi
    I'm using Quicktime 7.1.6 with iTunes 7.1.1.5.
Quicktime is set to display the Content Guide at startup and was doing so until 05/27. Now, on startup, it seems to begin to show the Guide and then disappear off the screen. The program still shows on the Taskbar and can be minimized, restored and closed as if it is still running. Windows Task Manager actually shows it as a running application.
I have tried complete uninstalls and reinstallations of iTunes + Quicktime. I have also tried installing Quicktime on it's own. I have tried turning off security software and using another broadband connection with a different ISP. None of this brings the Guide back. I have now set Quicktime NOT to display the Guide on startup and tried to start it manually. The results are the same, it sems to start to show the Guide and then disappears. Quicktime DOES still play videos OK.
All other applications on the PC are running as normal, including iTunes. Nothing was downloaded or installed prior to this problem beginning. In fact I was watching a video I have watched many times before with Quicktime. Whilst watching the video, I changed the view to 'Double Size', as I have done before. It was after watching this video that the problem seemed to begin.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply.
I'm using NAV 2003, but the problem persists with the Firewall disabled. Also, the Guide was displaying OK previously under the Firewall.
I think I have more than just a Quicktime issue here. I tried to run some games earlier and now they won't load. I think that there is some kind of display/memory problem. All the drivers seem to be reporting that they're OK. DirectX won't reload, as Windows says that the current version is running OK. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • App Store won't show updates if automatic update is disabled

After updating to iOS 7, I enabled automatic updating of Apps in the App Store.   I decided I didn't want to do that so I then disabled it.  That was yesterday.  Today the App Store update page didn't show any pending updates despite having a badge number (which went away when I went into the store).  I knew there were updates since they downloaded to iTunes yesterday so I tried killing the App Store app and loading it again, but nothing changed.  Finally I enable automatic updates and sure enough the App Store showed there were 11 pending updates and started downloading them.
When it was done, I turned automatic updates off again, but the App Store doesn't appear to check for or show updates if downloading of automatic updates is turned on and then back of.  Is this working for anyone?

I am having similar problems.  The App Store icon badge is not updating.  I do not use automatic updates.  I update all my apps on iTunes on a Windows PC and then sync my iPads and iPhone.  The icon badge does not update until the App Store is initiated and Updates is selected.  Another strange behavior is that if App Store was initiated and Updates was selected with one or more updates displayed AND the the device is locked, when the device is unlocked the Updates display will be cleared and indicate that all apps are up to date!!!!  The App Store must be exited and Updates reselected before the updates are displayed and the appropriate icon badge count is displayed.
You can only rely on an appropriate update count on the device by initiating the App Store (from the Home screen) and selecting Updates.

  • Applescript to automatically update the EyeTV DVB EPG program guide

For EyeTV users in Europe and Australia with DVB EPG access, you will all know that EyeTV will not keep that database automatically updated.
So I wrote this bit of Applescript will update EyeTV's free to air DVB EPG database.
Paste it into the ApplesScript Editor, and save it as an application somewhere like in Applications.  On first run you will get a dialog saying it need access to Accessibility.  Navigate to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Accessibility and you will see your app listed there.  Enter your password, click the checkbox, and then try again.  It should then work fine.
To automate the launching of the script, set it to run at at daily a convenient time using either Lingon (or some similar launch agent configuration utility), or using iCal as per this tip: http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_make_your_ical_alarm_perform_action
Running it daily (or as often as you like) will keep your EyeTV EPG database up to date always.  No more missed recordings because the EPG was not up to date!  Yay!
This is the basic script, I'm sure it can be better.:
    tell application "EyeTV"
              activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
              tell process "EyeTV"
                        keystroke "g" using command down
                        delay 1
click (pop up button 1 of window 1)
                        delay 1
click menu item "Update DVB Program Guide" of menu 1 of pop up button 1 of window "EyeTV Programs"
              end tell
    end tell
    Cheers
    Chris.

    Good morning Frank
    OK....
I too have the same issue (didn't notice it at first).  Having wasted several hours, I found no way around it.
But there are tools like clicclick that can click anywhere on the mac screen.  So... get it from here:
http://www.bluem.net/en/mac/cliclick   (big thank you to Carsten Blüm)  :-)
install as recommended (I put it in usr/bin/ as I had no usr/local/bin).  Check it works via the terminal by pastingcliclick c:28,11 into terminal and pressing return.  If that opens the apple menu, then it is installed and working.
Then try this script, which first puts the EyeTV window to a specific location on the screen, then instead of using UI scripting to click the silly pop up button 1, uses clicclick to clik at the location of the button.  This opens the menu, and then UI scripting can click it.  You may want to change the EyeTV window location from the value I chose, if so put it into your prefered position then use the Accessibility Inspector to get the location of the button, then add some pixels either side of that.
For me this now works perfectly every time, I hope it will for you.  Annoying to have to install clicclick but there you go.
    tell application "EyeTV"
      activate
      set the position of window 1 to {30, 60}
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
      tell application process "EyeTV"
      keystroke "g" using command down
      delay 4
      do shell script "cliclick c:170,70"
      delay 1
click menu item "Update DVB Program Guide" of menu 1 of pop up button 1 of window "EyeTV Programs"
      end tell
    end tell
I have found that the delay after the keystroke g is essential otherwise I get an invalid index error, I think because it is not ready to accept the click.  You may need to change the delay.
Also when using Lingon to launch the Applescript App, the path needs to be to the applet file inside the contents of it.  ie something like mydirectory/myappname.app/contents/MacOS/applet.  name your app without spaces.
    cheers
    Chris

Need root cause and  please suggest solution ?

    Solved it!
    1-go to "edit", select Preferences.
2-select from the left pane: Security (enhanced)
3-click on "add folder path" button just below the big white box
4-pick a folder of your choice and click "ok". (your selected folder path will appear in that white box above the "add folder path" button in step 3)
5-if you want to add additional folders, just repeat steps 3 & 4
6-once you are done, click "ok" on the preferences screen and click "ok" again to accept the changes.
Yes, it seems illogical, but it worked.
I tested by closing the Reader (X), then surfed the web and did what Neher5 was explaining he/she wanted to do just after opening a pdf from a website and lo-and-behold,  it worked!. No more "save to temp folder" issues.
    Hope this helps.

  • Disabling 'Show window contents while dragging' also disables window snap - is there a workaround?

When I disable 'Show window contents while dragging' in Performance Options, it also automatically disables the ability to snap windows the left and right and corners by dragging them. I have an older computer, and disabling this really improves the performance,
but I'd really like to keep the ability to snap the windows around, as it's one of my favorite features.
Is there a way to just disable showing window contents while dragging without disabling the window snap feature?

Hey there. I've been trying to figure out why my snap wasn't working, and this is the only post I've found that mentioned it.
I found snap wasn't working on my machines sometimes and realised it happens after I start an RDP session which disables the "show window contents while dragging" option, but then doesn't seem to enable it properly after the session ends.
When I check the option, it is already ticked, so I need to untick and re-tick, then apply and snap starts working again.
I don't know if there is any connection with the "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen" option under the mouse ease of access settings.
It does seem like a new issue though as it doesn't happen under Win8

  • Disabling automatic update notification

Hello, in the previous version, you could disable update notifications with mms.cfg, but this does not seem to work anymore. Is there another way to do it? It's not enough to disable it manually from the settings. I'm talking about the Windows version 10.1 that was just released.

Ok, I think I got this figured out.
Based on a forum user from here:
    http://www.appdeploy.com/packages/detail.asp?id=1382
Under the notes section a user states:
When you created mms.cfg with disabled update, flash  settings still show you that Auto-Update is turned on (  http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager05.htm l  ). But accordance to Adobe guidelines, incoming trafic for updates will  be disabled (it won't tell you about updates anymore).
However, if  you want to remove check mark as well, you need to take settings.sol  file from APPDATAFOLDER\Macromedia\Flash  Player\macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys and spread it to each user  in the same folder (with Active Setup for example). Now, not only  technicaly, but also visualy update is turned off!

So apparently the Settings Manager page does not reflect the true settings if your mms.cfg file is correctly configured.  The only way to test this is to run a packet analyzer and attempt to hit a page that uses flash: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/167/16701594.html
    Testing auto-update notification settings
Administrators can verify the mms.cfg configuration has disabled  auto-update by using a packet sniffer with the following test:
In mms.cfg, set AutoUpdateDisable=0 to allow auto-update. Verify that auto-update is enabled in Settings Manager.
    Add the auto-update setting:
    AutoUpdateInterval=0
With this setting, Flash Player requests the version file every time  it starts and the request will appear in the network request traffic.
Open a web page with Flash content to start Flash Player. A simple  page with a single piece of Flash content is best, to minimize the  network traffic in the packet sniffer log. The packet sniffer will show  the auto-update request traffic to http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/
Note: Avoid using www.macromedia.com as your test page, since the auto-update request will be lost in the other file requests.
Set the AutoUpdateDisable to 1 to disable auto-update notification.
Open a web page with Flash content to start Flash Player. There should be no version file request traffic.
I have tested this on a Win7x64 computer and analyzed the packets.  No packets for http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/ were found.  Let me know if anyone else can confirm this.
    Thanks.

Once you take the photo with Photo Booth, select the photo in the tray at the bottom and click on the iPhoto button just abouve and to the left:

That will import the photo into iPhoto automatically.  But PB does not import any and all photo taken into iPhoto automatically.  That choice is left to the user.

  • How do I disable automatic updating? I am about to switch to another browser because of the frequency with which I am delayed by an automatic update without the option to put it off to another time.

I have been using Firefox and its ancestors since the beginning. I am at the end of my rope with it. When I click a link or open the browser it is because that is what I seek to have happen. Unless there is a way to turn off automatic updating, I am going to pack it in and find another platform. I cannot see what would be lost if Firefox would do its updating on the way out, when my attention has moved on, and it is not taking up my time. Is there a solution to this with Firefox?

    Hi,
It is true that the Classic Theme Restorer add-on will NOT bring back all of your customized settings/appearance on Firefox 28, but it will help a little It's recommended that you stay on the latest version to receive the latest security fixes and bug patches but you're free to downgrade if you want.
You can set these prefs in <code>about:config</code> to disable automatic updating:<br>
    app.update.auto - false<br>
    app.update.enabled - false<br>
    app.update.silent - false<br>
