Disable side mighty mouse button in Windows XP

I have a mighty mouse that I use in bootcamp and the side mouse buttons when hit go to the default command "back in browser." I often hit the buttons accidentally only to find myself "hitting the back button" in firefox accidentally. Is there a way to disable the side mouse buttons when using windows xp bootcamp?

Hi,
I hate this behaviour too. But I found this sw ( http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMouseButtonControl.htm ), that let you disable fourth button and it works fine. I'd like to see scrolling horizontally in Windows. I know there is a comercial driver, but I'd like some free solution.
Hope this helps.

The above question. Will I have to download any extra drivers? Is the MM really that bad? Thanks.

    Officially...No: http://www.apple.com/mightymouse/specs.html
In reality... probably. Why would you want it anyway? There are many many better mice out there.

  • Mighty Mouse button remapping

Hi, this is about a mighty mouse, not magic mouse, though the principle should be the same.
Some time ago my scroll ball got stuck so I tore the mouse apart to fix it(bad idea) and in the process destroyed the ribbon cable connecting the mouse shell with the board. Effect: No more right or middle click, no more scrolling.
Now I use a 3D program called modo, at times I need a middle click(right click i fix with the trackpad). My question is: Does anybody know how to remap the mouse so that the side buttons do a "Button 3" action.
I am able to set them to "Button 4" in the system prefs but not to "Button 3"
There ought to be a little app that remaps the mouse input, but google doesn't know anything about it.

0 replies...really?  Sad face.  Congrats, Mac.  You are becoming the new Windows.  I wonder who will arise to take the place in the market that Apple used to occupy?  You know, that place where computers, devices, and software just plain worked?  Where Operating Systems were tested thoroughly before release?  Ah, those were the days.  Shame on you, Apple.

  • Can (mighty) mouse buttons work w/Lion?

My wired USB Apple Mouse (aka Mighty Mouse) worked fine with 10.5.8 - Sys Pref / Mouse let me assign functions to the left, right, top/scroll, and side buttons.  I just upgraded to 10.6.8 and immediately to 10.7.5 Lion, and although the Sys Pref / Mouse window provides similar settings to 10.5.8, three of the five functions don't work.
The Left button is ok, and the Scroll ball (on top) scrolls ok.  But the Right button acts just like the Left button, and the Top ball/button push and the Side buttons push don't do anything at all.  Thankfully, there are no bizarre problems like the cursor leaping around, and I can hit Control - Left (Primary) button and get the Right (Secondary) button action.
I like my old Mighty Mouse and hope I don't have to get a newer / aftermarket one.  Any help will be appreciated.

Sorry for the duplicate post, I am on two different threads concerning this problem. I had contact with Apple Support through the complimentary support for purchasing Lion. They took note that the wired mighty mouse worked with my Macbook air running Lion 10.7.4, that my Wacom pen and tablet could be programmed to right click on my Macpro running 10.7.5 from the App store but seemed stuck on the requirement for a clean install even though I related clean installs from this discussion forum have not worked.
Out of curiousity I tried the USB Overdrive shareware:
    http://www.senlick.com/html/01.01.html
My wired USB mighty mouse now works with Lion as it did with Snow Leopard, again to me this points to the release of Lion on the app store.
I am going to write the Apple support case handler again and let her know, I have not heard back from them since November 1, hopefully they are working on the problem.

  • How can I disable right/left mouse buttons and scroll wheel in PDF?

    Hi all,
I want the user to have to click on "forward" and "back" buttons that I've created in the PDF, in order to move around in it. Is there any way to disable the mouse buttons and scroll wheel from allowing users to go back and forth?
Also, a separate question: I want the user to click on embedded images and receive either a pop-up comment, or be re-directed to another page in the PDF. Is there any way to set this up?
    Thanks for your time!

You can achieve what you want in Question 1, just not via scripting.  You would need to create a plug-in in C/C++ that would be installed on the client machine.  Other than that option, try67 is correct - there is no way to achieve this from the document-level.

  • Mighty Mouse button doesn't work in Login screen.

When I boot up my Mac I can move the cursor with the mouse in the Login screen, but I can't click on anything - the buttons don't work. Once I'm logged in the mouse works normally in every way.
This only happens with the Mighty Mouse - 3rd party mice work fine in the Login screen.
I can't see any settings in the Mouse System Prefs that would affect this.
    Anybody got a suggestion?

    Nobody got any insights?

  • Mighty Mouse buttons 3 & 4 not working

I am using the Mighty Mouse with a G4 PowerBook and the latest version of Tiger. At first the mouse worked fine. But a few days ago buttons 3 and 4 simply stopped working. I press them and nothing happens.
I checked the mouse preference pane and it was all there as it should be - it still showed the mouse with all 4 buttons properly allocated. Re-installing the software made no difference.
Am I missing something - or has my Mighty Mouse just malfunctioned?

Without using something like USB Overdrive (http://www.usboverdrive.com/USBOverdrive/) then I'm afraid you're stuck with whatever the Mouse preferences allow you to set buttons 3 & 4 to.

  • Disable built-in mouse button?

Does anyone know how to disable the built-in mouse button on a Macbook Pro?! I dropped a book on it, and it dented the button inwards such that it is permanently stuck down. The OS always thinks the button is down, making the computer almost unuseable!
    Thanks for your help.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8) Core Duo 2.16GHz

Again, thanks for your response, but no need to get snarky. I do not think the frame/button would have broken on my old iBook or other laptops, based on my experience. The book was only 250 pages! I am simply complaining about the MBP's clear fragility. I know perfectly well it's my fault, and trust me, I am very angry with myself. I am also a loyal Apple customer of many years, but this MBP has been repeatedly letting me down with other flaws (faded blotch on the LCD; uneven keyboard illumination; easily scratched). I had resisted sending it in until now, because I require my computer constantly for work, but I think now is the time to call and demand a replacement. I do not think I am the first to notice the MBP's many flaws. Despite them, it is a fantastic computer.
Also, if you will note, I was complaining about the third party repair shop, and not Apple. I was simply asking whether people thought their price/advice was reasonable. I guess you've answered the question, though in a roundabout, you-are-an-idiot-and-stop-attacking-my-beloved-Apple kind of way.

  • Mighty mouse button shortcuts

my new wireless mighty mouse works great, but i have a question..
is there a way to make it so that when you either squeeze or click the scroll ball, you go back a page in safari or firefox? Dashboard and expose are on my wireless keyboard, so i don't need them as shortcuts on my mouse. thanks a lot!

  • Mighty Mouse Button Issue

    Hello,
First, let me apologize if it is not the proper section to post my question. I didn't find a relevant section relating to mighty mouse.
I recently was having problems with my scroll on my wireless mighty mouse so I rubbed the scroll ball on a blank sheet of paper, and it worked fine. However, now my left click and right click buttons do not work. They work but they perform what I set for button 3. Whatever action I set for button 3 be that Expose, Desktop, Dashboard, etc it is performed by all 3 buttons now. I am afraid I might have pressed the mouse harder than necessary when cleaning the scroll ball. And now I believe it's stuck pressed permanently. However, when I turn my button 3 off, I can only left click but no right click.
I don't feel too excited to jam open my new mouse, so I was hoping if there are any work arounds this issue. Please help.
    Many thanks!

I fixed it! I just cleaned it again on a piece of paper, not being so rough this time, and it's working properly again.

  • Toggle mighty Mouse button 3

I need some way of easily toggling the action of the third button (clicking the scroll wheel) on a might mouse.
I have to access several programs on a remote site via a java citrix server that can only be accessed via a secured web web site (don't ask! security gone mad).
For these programmes - effectively PC and X11 programmes run through a web portal - I need the middle mouse button to act as a "button 3".
Most of the time, I'd like it to activate dashboard.
My first thought was that I could have a simple AppleScript sitting in the dock that would determine what the button was currently set to, and toggle to to other setting. I can't use USB Overdrive, as that would only set the button push for the application (in this case FireFox) - and I need it set only for particular actions within FireFox (it's not even for a particular page).
I've tried modifying a selection of applescripts I've come across, but I'm obviously missing something (I'm done virtually no applescripting) and get a variety of errors - I think based on the fact that I can't find how to reference the pop up menu for the button 3.
    So far I have:
-- activate System Preferences Keyboard & Mouse pane
    tell application "System Preferences"
    activate
set current pane to pane "com.apple.preference.keyboard"
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
    get properties
    tell process "System Preferences"
-- activate the "Mouse" tab - seems to be a radio button
click radio button "Mouse" of tab group 1 of window "Keyboard & Mouse"
    delay 1
-- ** this is where I need to get the current value of the third mouse button and then set it to the other state **
    end tell
    end tell
-- and close system preferences again
    tell application "System Preferences"
    quit
    end tell
Can anyone help me fill in the missing (vital!) bit of code?
Or show a better way of doing it.
Ideally I would also switch the actions of the F9, F10, F11 & F12 to F1, F2, F3 & F4 as well (these are used by the programs concerned) - but I can leave these permenantly set without too much hassle at the moment
    Thanks

  • Driver for wired mighty mouse driver in windows xp pc

I'm looking for drivers for the wired apple mouse aka mighty mouse to run in windows xp pro to have horizontal scrolling.  Currently the generic plug & play driver allows vertical scrolling and horizotal only if the vertical scroll is not present.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I have a MBP running Bootcamp 1.1.2 and XP SP2. My Bluetooth Mighty Mouse works well within XP with the exception of the left-right scrolling.
First I installed the mouse in the OSX operating system. Then when I booted in XP, I used the "Bluetooth Devices" from the control panel to find and connect the mouse with no problems.
I didn't have to worry with any mouse driver installation.
Is Bluetooth working in XP mode?

  • Mighty Mouse buttons

My Mighty Mouse was working fine, when the buttons went dead. Cursor moves around, and scroll ball scrolls, but neither left nor right buttons do anything.
They just quit. I thought it was the computer, so I force-quit by holding down the power button. Twice. Then, tried the wired MM. That works fine. I haven't changed the battery, as I figure it wouldn't have work at all.

    Thanks for the help, Barry.
Guess what? You know when you got to the mechanic, and your car isn't making that sound, anymore? Same thing happened here. For a few days after it started acting-up, I'd try the wireless. No dice. I just read your suggestion, and decided before I try anything, to give it another shot. Buttons decided to start working. I'm keeping your suggestion handy, though, in case it happens again.
    Thanks again. Happy Holidays.
