''locking this thread as duplicate, please continue at [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1054179 /questions/1054179]''
when i click a link that opens in a new tab for instance gmail opens links in a new tab, firefox switches to this tab.
switch to tab no more does not fix this i did have a about:config solution but i refreshed firefox and so it removed it.
preferably no extensions

You can remove the checkmark on "Open Tabs" in the location bar settings.
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Location Bar: When using the location bar, suggest:<br />[] Open tabs
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Options+window+-+Privacy+panel
Note that you can hold down the Alt or Shift key while an entry in the drop down list is highlighted to disable "Switch to tab" and see the URL of all entries instead.
* Alt + Enter opens the highlighted URL in a new tab.
* Shift + Enter opens the highlighted URL in the current tab.
* Cursor Right copies the highlighted URL to the location bar in case you want to edit it.

  • Why can't I open a new tab for the same website? Want to disable 'switch to tab'.

I used to be able to open multiple tabs for the same website on Firefox 3.xx. I could download files from one tab and work from another. How can I disable the 'switch to tab' function?

You can disable it by using the Switch to Tab no more add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/switch-to-tab-no-more

  • How to disable 'Switch to Tab' feature in Firefox 4?

This is a very annoying feature. Is there any about:config option to completely turn it off?

Why do we need an add-on for that. This is nonsense. I don't want add-ons for every feature. I want simple and logical usable features. I want the old firefox back :(
The firefox that just worked. Remember?
And I don't want to open in a new tab. I just want it to open in the current tab.

  • What is switch to tab and how do I disable

My home page is Google. when I try to open another tab with Google, it reverts back to home page. I need to be able to open several Google pages at one time and can't. Firefox only allows one at a time because Google tab says "switch to tab". Thanks.

*Use the cursor Right key to select an item marked as Switch to Tab in the drop down list and copy the URL to the location bar.

  • Disable cursor when tab-switching

    Hi all,
Is there a possibility to disable cursor selection when changing apps with tab-switching, while the command key is pressed? When using a tablet it's extremely annoying since you have to lift the pen away every time. I'd like the list of app icons to ignore any movement of the cursor above it.
    Thanks.

  • Is it possible to get the 'Switch to tab' option higher when typing in the Awesome Bar?

    Hello,
I'm currently running the latest version of Aurora and although I really like it, there's one thing that kind of annoys me. I'm often running more than 100 tabs at once, and searching all of them to find the desired tab takes a long time, therefore I'd love to use the 'Switch to tab' function, but more often than not, that option is very far down the list of suggestions, causing me to not notice them. So I'd like to know if it's possible to have this option display as one of the first suggestions, instead of putting in further down the list.
    Thanks in advance,
    xMyth

you can also change the character within the firefox configuration: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.urlbar.restrict.openpage'''. double-click it and change its value to any other key instead of the preconfigured %.

  • Disabling tab functionality in a field

    Dear all,
How do you disable tab functionality in a field in sap b1 2005? I would just like to have a formatted search on the field.
    Regards,
    Monil

    Hi Monil
Is this at row level? If so, then set it as visible but not active in the Form settings. If it is a header field, then consider that the TAB is to validate a field and changing standard SAP logic is not advisable. Some more information on the exact field type will help me guide you better.
    Kind regards

  • How do I disable the "New Tab opened" button that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?

    Dear Helpful Open Source people.
I would like to disable the "New Tab opened" that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?
I usually open tabs from a search engine's results page expecting the links to be of varying quality. This means that it is efficient to open several links from that page and review and close them sequentially later. A reality of the output of search engines is that your 1st link is sedom the one you want.
This button clutters an already small phone screen. I've hardly the space to click outside it and move on often clicking it by accident. Waiting prevents me scrolling to click the next link for 3 seconds or worse when I scroll prematurely I accidentally click it and jump to that Tab prematurely. I don't need to be told what I just did. I know... There is a perfectly functional tabs button in Firefox Android that let's me jump to my new tab in less than second with 2 presses when I wish to do so.
I appreciate that it's "only" 3 seconds and a 1st world problem, but browsers and OS designers aspire to fast customisable function. Maybe there's a way to get rid of this button?
The button is shown in section 3 of "Open a Link in a New Tab" in this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-tabs-firefox-android
PS. Mozilla - great work with the Sync function keep developing!!

For some reason, Android calls that little notification bar a "toast" so that's the new tab toast. It was added in Firefox 12.
I can't see any preference to suppress it, so I think that would require filing a new bug (request for enhancement). If you feel strongly, I think you are the best person to file it.

  • Version 5.0 on a MAC will not let me switch between tabs. I can open a new tab, but when I try to go to a different tab, it just shows me the contents of the tab most recently opened. Help!

Version 5.0 on a MAC will not let me switch between tabs. I can open a new tab, but when I try to go to a different tab, it just shows me the contents of the tab most recently opened. Help!
Also, pop up blocker works for some time and then just stops working. I have to close and restart Firefox to get it to work again. Help!

I had the same problem, but with Firefox 4.0. My first thought was to update Firefox (after of course restarting FF), but that didn't help it and I had the same problem.
Among others, I had an extension installed and enabled called Tile Tabs 4.10 that I thought could feasibly creating this problem. So I went into my add-ons manager and disabled it, restarted Firefox and the tabs worked properly again. Unfortunately, the Tile Tabs extension is my favorite Firefox add-on and I use it almost every day for managing my web work tasks. I went to the add-on page for Tile Tabs and saw that there was a notice that version 4.10 didn't work properly on Mac OS, and to install version 4.9 of the extension. I saw they had a new, not-yet-reviewed version 4.11 that addressed the Mac OS problem, installed it, and everything seems to be working properly.
I have no idea why all of a sudden I had this problem, as I hadn't updated Firefox or the Tile Tabs extension recently. Also, obviously this might not address your problem, especially if you don't have that add-on installed and enabled. But our problem started at the same time for both of us it appears based on your post time, so its probably not coincidence.
But its worth a look, and you might want to check out other extensions if you don't have Tile Tabs that could be causing the problem.

  • Why no Alt-Tab functionality (true last active, not just up or down the line)?

I see the keyboard shortcuts for moving up and down the open tabs (ctrl-shift-tab and ctrl-tab) and the go direct to a numbered tab etc...
what I really want is a last tab function that if pressed repeatedly would simply take you back and forth between the last two tabs. Such that if I have 8 tabs open and am presently on tab 7 and then switch to tab 4, then I press this keyboard shortcut it would take me directly back to 7. If pressed again it would go back to 4. etc.
Take filling out a tax form or something as an example. I've got my browser open, several pages on tax help, tax code, and the like along with one with my paystub info and one that I am entering data into. I repeatedly need to bounce back and forth between the tab with the info on it (paystub) and the tab with the data entry on it.
I suppose one could workaround by only having the two desired tabs open in the browser window or by having two browser windows open with each needed page, but this is such ingrained function (alt-tab in windows goes directly between your last two open applications no matter how many you have open) that it just seems very natural to want browser tabs to only go back and forth between the last two as well.
really think this should be developed...seems simple (from an uneducated POV) and serves a definite purpose.
    thanks.

    Thanks, that works great.
FYI I came across that several times, however none of them made it clear that the desired behavior was understood and that this was the actual fix for it.
Thanks again and for those wondering - this does actually make ctrl-tab behave as normal windows alt-tab does....can't believe I've gone so long without this frustrated by every time I hit alt tab wanting to change tabs and changing applications instead.
this is great...thanks firefox (still think this should be default instead of the climb up and down the open list of tabs)

    Check this blog post to see how to properly disclose tabs: Decompiling ADF Binaries: Programmatically disclosing a ShowDetailItem in a &amp;lt;af:panelTabbed&amp;gt;
You can't stop inline frame reload because this will automatically happen if his position in page DOM structure is changed(for example, when you disclose tab).
So if you want to avoid inline frame refresh then you need to use some other container(maybe af:navigationPane with af:commandNavigationItem) and show/hide your components by using javascript.

  • Password protecting one tab on a tab function

    Hi,
I am trying to place password protection on one tab of a tab function. Can anyone help me with this?
    Many thanks,
    Cooky

There are many ways to do this. Another possibility would be to enable/disable the secret tab depending on the state of a password.
In the attached simple demo (LabVIEW 7.0), the third tab is disabled unless the correct password is entered. If there is no activity for one minute, the secret tab will automatically be disabled once again.
(Of course the password could be also obtained using a password dialog after pressing a button named "Administrator Login" for example. In a real world example, you might also want to encrypt the password strings or use a more advanced authentication algorithm.)
LabVIEW Champion . Do more with less code and in less time .
