Disable the autosave/lock file functions?

Since the release of OS X Lion, I have been experiencing troubles related with Adobe Creative Suite saving files to my Time Capsule device. When I open a file made in Photoshop, or Dreamweaver, or Illustrator (for example) and I make some changes to that, when i try to save it right to the Time Capsule, the file is saved, but the application stops to respond and following the OS X crashes, so I must reset my Mac.
I discovered that bug has to do with the autosave funcition and disablig the file lock in Time Machine settings solved that. But after I installd OS X Mountain Lion, this settings has disapeared from Time Machine, so I coudn't disable them anymore and the crash saving files just got back.
Any idea about how turn this resources off again?

I think I might have a similar problem. Files are getting locked in Time Machine, even though I'm using Mountain Lion, so auto-locking should no longer exist. Before I ran the command to disable auto-locking anyway, I ran "defaults read -g ApplePersistence" to see what the current value was. It said that it did not exist.
So, I'm wondering, if you are running Mountain Lion, then how were you able to change the value of this item if it should not exist? What response did you get back from Terminal after running it?
Also, to clarify, items in my Time Machine backups are getting locked. Is this similar to the problem you had?

I don't use Time Machine either but the option for this function is in the Time Machine options.
Open System Preferences > Time Machine
Click 'Options'
The bottom option should be about auto-saving. To stop applications from locking documents, uncheck the box. To extend the peiod before the document is locked, select the appropriate time from the drop-down menu.

Hi, until yesterday the smart cover on my new ipad3 was working fine, now it doesnt work anymore, 1. it disables the auto lock function, meaning when cover is on the ipad doesnt lock and 2.if I close the cover it doesnt lock the ipad automatically which it did until yesterday / anybody any idea ? How do I disable the "Clear Recent History" function in the tools drop menu?

I've figured out how to disable the "Start Private Browsing" function, and would also like to delete the "Clear Recent History" and "Forget this site" options. I have teenaged children and would just like the options gone.

Disabling it in Firefox itself wouldn't help, since the users would still be able to find the files in profile folder and delete them manually. If you want to disable that, you might log in as Administrator on your system and modify the permissions to the history file, but it would end up in Firefox (running at the user account) being unable to add data to the file as well.

W520 & Windows 8 - Is it possible to disable the Caps Lock Key?

I have a W520 running the 64 bit Window 8 Pro OS.
Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the CAPS LOCK key on the ThinkPad keyboard? I keep hitting this key by mistake (fat fingers, I guess) when using the laptop keyboard, and it is a PITA.
When I have the W520 docked and I am using an external (Microsoft hardware) keyboard, I can disable the CAPS LOCK key on the external keyboard using Microsoft's keyboard control panel application. But, this application doesn't appear to support disabling the CAPS LOCK key on the keyboard embedded in the W520.
All suggestions will be gratefully received.

You cant technically disable it, BUT you can go to settings>General>Auto Lock - Never
The screen will never dim and you wont have to slide to unlock - but keep in mind this will drain the battery much faster since the back light is constantly on.

Is there a way I can permanently disable the security lock thing in System Preferences?

Aside from logging and using the root account on a daily basis, is there a way to permanently be rid of the security lock thing in System Preferences?
Yosemite has a bug (?) where if an Admin account has its password set to blank (empty), you can't remove the security lock...
You can click it, it'll ask for Username and Password (Why?), and when you click on 'Unlock', it unlocks for a brief moment and instantly locks itself again...
This is beyond infuriating. Do advise.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. However I'm quite aware that the sleep/wake button disables the screen. Unfortunately, mea maxima culpa, I sometimes accidentally hit shuttle before I've pressed the sleep/wake button, often when I am trying to do more than one thing at once. Sometimes I accidentally hit shuffle at other times too,eg when waking up the phone.
This is especially exasperating when listening to classical pieces with multiple movements. I will look for an alternative music player for the iphone, as I don't think the default music application and I are a good match.

Disable the remote lock code

I downloaded iOS5 and like any new toy, I wanted to play to see how it all worked. I went to Find iPhone on our iPad and did a remote search. It asked for a remote passcode, but now everytime my phone goes to sleep, I must use the passcode to get back into it. Please tell me there is a way to disable this!! I need to be able to get my calls immediately, being I work in a school and need to limit the distractions. (I get fumbly when unexpected calls come in! )

As I hit send my daughter stumbled in and asked what I was doing. When I explained, told me that the unlock setting was on the phone.
Go to settings, general and lo and behold, use the passcode lock to turn it on or off.

How can we disable the OSX Access Point functionality without disabling all wifi.

Curious if anyone knows a way in Lion/Mountain Lion to disable the OSX access point features.
i have about 50+ macs in our company for iOS development. lately we've had a lot of rogue AP's showing up, people bridging the internal network by activating the "become a hotspot" feature in OSX. this is a *GREAT* feature, don't get me wrong. especially the latency and ease of use.. but in our case its causing problems, and i'm looking at a way to disable the AP features without disabling ALL wifi with something like.
/usr/sbin/networksetup -setairportpower en1 off
this is a bit too much ,it disables the entire airport/wifi. we want to only disable the access point capabilities.
any hardcore guru's out there have some advise?

Enabling sharing services requires administrative access, so one option is to set this and only give folks standard "managed" access. The Internet Sharing service is a process called "InternetSharing" that runs as the root user and establishes all the appropriate services for the needed connection. You could technically remove or even rename this process on systems to prevent it from being used, or remove or disable its launch daemon. These files are in the following directories:
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.InternetSharing.plist
/usr/libexec/InternetSharing

I need to disable the export button/functionality in a customer's apex installation (3.2.1) as part of the security measures.
Customer do not want developers to be able to export the applications they have access to. As the internal application is not editable (is it with some sort of trick??) , does anyone ever had this requirement and know how to do it?

I agree with Tyler, this is indeed a really strange request. If your customer can’t rely on his developers, I would say you have a problem. I’m saying it because disabling the export button, even if it’s possible, doesn’t really give you any kind of protection. A malicious developer can still export APEX application using the Java utility APEXExport; it can be done with SQL Developer; it can also be done on a page level, and I only named the documented options.
I don’t think this type of action should be considered for a development environment. Of course, the production environment is a completely different ball game. You can use the APEX run-time only environment, and by that neutralize most of the developer related “risks”.

Disabling the caps lock delay on the aluminum keyboard

Is there any way of turning off the accidental caps-lock press prevention on the new Apple keyboards? (http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/07/new-apple-keyboard-has-protection-against-acciden tal-caps-lock/)
I use my caps lock key as Control (SysPrefs -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard -> Modified Keys), and the bounce protection cause me no end of trouble - it is still enabled, though I am not using that key for caps lock.
I called Apple support, and they told me to return the keyboard. I do not think this will make a difference, but maybe a Genius can help me out.

On early keyboards (when I started typing on computer terminals (in the 70s/80s, yes, before personal computers, the Control key was the key to the left of "A". That was great for programmers since lots of things used Control (shell, Emacs, etc). At some point, the Powers That Be (TM) decided that Caps Lock belonged to the left of the "A" key, so people like me spent their time either hoarding the old-style keyboards or finding ways of putting Control 'back where it should be'.
So disabling Caps Lock altogether does not achieve this goal. And until the Aluminum keyboard, ALL other Apple keyboards have worked fine under OSX using the Keyboard Modifier Key swap to simply make Caps Lock be Control. This Aluminum keyboard still makes the switch and works, but at the cost of having to hold the key longer as if it still were the Caps Lock key. Many typists may not even notice this difference, but to a touch-typist, the key seems simply not to work at all.
