Disable the charger hole?

Yesterday I managed to get some snow in my iPhone 4 (just in the jack for headphones and in the "charger hole"). When this first happened a lot of things were fubar, but after a night on a warm place in a bag of rice almost everything is dandy again. The only problem is that every now and then I get a pop-up message saying something like "this accessory is not optimalized for iPhone.." even though I have nothing plugged in. When this happens the phone tries to send all sounds out through the accesory, which obviously isn't there and thus I am left with no sound at all. It stays like this for some time, and then it goes back to normal.
So I was wondering, is it possible to somehow "disable" the use of these accessories? This way I believe (and hope) that my phone won't change between silent and none-silent mode every 15 seconds. It would probably just be a temporarily fix cos I am going to the nearest Apple Store on monday.

So I was wondering, is it possible to somehow "disable" the use of these accessories?
There is no way to turn this warning off. You may have some crud/corrosion on one of the pins that is intermittently creating a short, thus producing that error. You can try blowing the dock connector out with compressed air or using a soft toothbrush, but if the damage is internal, replacement may be in order. Damage like this is not covered by warranty.

Transfer all of your content to the computer:
Tunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer

Then try turning the device off and on again. I'd leave it off for 10-15 minutes, but that is up to you:

If the item is still there, you may need to restore the device:

Hope that helps . Worst case scenario, you may need to write into iTunes support to see if they can also help!!

  • Turning off the charging LED?

Dear Sony,Appologies if this is already covered, searching just finds old issues with LED and stamina.I'd like to disable the charging LED. I've started using a dock at night and I can't hide it by butting the phone face down. I've solved the issue of notifications when I'm asleep with the Smart Connect SW turning off all data so I can't get them but the charge light is annoying. Should this not be an option in Smart Connect to disable LED and then use the between hours to activate? The only option I can find anywhere is the 'pulse notification light' that seems to do nothing. I'm running the Aus unbranded .253 software. Thanks

Ok there is a way around it - HURRAH!  not fully tested it but it seems to work so far.   Download lightflow This method is based around the logic of if you can't stop it flashing, at least we can make it so dark/dull (and static if you prefer) that you won't even notice it. You will need to create notifications for both charged battery and charging battery.So... take Charging battery:Under Notification tab:- put a tick in Enable notification- exclude from sleep modeUnder Light tab:- Put a tick in Enable ligh- Select Notification colour- Go for Custom Colour- select bottom right - the blackest / purple-ist you can find!- hit ok-Select Light duration - here either chose always on or very slow depending on how sensitive you are - I found always on less distracting than waiting for it to flash, no matter how the dark the light is.- change light duration to either do not automatically switch off if you NEVER want to see the charging light, even in the day, or say Stop after 8 hours instead.- If opting for flashing rather than a static light, change LED flash rate to Custom LED Flash rate and fiddle with the milliseconds - extend the off part by many zeros! Repeat for Charged battery option. That's it - good luck and happy sleeping. Melanie

  • How do fix a pushed in charger hole?

Today my macbook fell, with the charger in. The charger came out, but not before it hit the floor. When I picked it up, I went to put the charger back in and found that the light was not coming on. When I looked closer, I realised that the charger hole itself was pushed in, my guess because of the charger being in when it fell. Is there anyway to pull it back into proper place? Please answer immediately.

You mean the port on the machine itself?  well, your choices are as follows:
send it out for repair - it might be covered under Apple warrantee, it might not.
crack the case and fix it yourself.  If the computer starts up and operates normally on battery power, the repair itself should not be difficult (well, cracking the case is not something to be done lightly, and you'll need the proper tools - torx driver set, fine point phillips screwdrivers, and a spludger - but if the computer functions it's a good sign that it's just a bent connector and none of the internal boards are damaged).
Check out the iFixit webpage for your particular model and see if it's something you want to get involved with, or if you'd rather pay a pro to do it.

I have a problem with my iPhone 5 stopped working the sleep / power and simultaneously refused to obey the HOME button. I can not use either one or the other. I can not enable or disable the device, display lights up when you plug the charger. same display works fine as it is surprising. or maybe someone knows what is the reason for this? is there any way to solve this problem?

More than likely its a hardware issue, I have never encountered such a problem and best bet is to just go get it replaced. If you have insurance on your device apple will replace it as long as there was no water damage, if you dont have insurance they will charge $200 more or less. Hope you get it fixed

I wonder if this comment on the Amazon site is the answer to my problems?
PLEASE NOTE: In order to provide the same power output as an original 3 ft Apple USB cable, the housing of our 6.5 ft cables need to be a bit larger. Due to the larger head size, it will not be compatible with some cases that have a smaller charger opening
If that is the case then I am stuck with the Griffin one or just use the original.
    Thanks for your observations guys

Hey HoustonSmith, using to much power generally means a short. Do not use this cable, the lighting cables have a history of failure; shorting out. If within one year of purchase date take it to Apple, the cable also has a one year warranty, if short is do to manufacturing flaw and not abuse Apple will replace it free! Otherwise a new cable is around $30. You could also try a reset or restore, but don't think a glitch is your problem. If you do try to restore, just remember to make backup copies of all the info / data on this iPod to your computer first, then attempt to restore. Good luck. Cheers.

  • HT1937 My ipod isnet charging and my sound isent working in the jack hole for the charger it looks like tiny little wires sticking out what do i do?

My ipod isent charging and my sound insn'et working in the jack hole there are wires sticking out but they are tiny what do i do?

First of all, you are fortunate that everything works.  Secondly, I agree that rice may be the culprit in the charging port.  However there is a chance that your trying to fix it could actually harm the port and cost you, so I suggest you first get under a bright light and use a magnifying glass to see exactly what and where the obstruction is.  Attempting to connect the charging cable has probably already forced the obstructing substance further down into the port.  Obviously the port is small and will require some kind of tool to help you remove whatever is in there.  I suggest a plastic toothpick that is not likely to break and shouldn't do damage to the contacts.  Tweezers may be useful but if utilized be very cautious not to scrape anything if at all possible.

  • Can you disable the battery or not allow it to charge even if it is pluged in?

Can you disable the battery or charging function even if the laptop is pluged in to a power outlet? Is there any internal switch?

Your battery will remain healthy - and discharge a bit - even when you're plugged into mains. If you're going to run primarily of mains, you should disconnect your MBP about every two weeks and allow it to drain down to about 30-40% and then allow it to recharge - this will keep the ions in the battery 'moving'.
Most of the time you just needn't worry about the battery - just use it thoughtfully.

  • HT1476 I can't tell if my ipod touch 3rd gen is really charging. I have it plugged in, but it will sometimes show the charging icon and then it won't respond to anything. I ddon't know if you need itunes to be on your computer to charge it.

Ok, so I plug in my touch 3rd gen and I can't tell if it is really charging. It doesn't seem like it is. I can only see the charging icon sometimes, and then after the icon goes away, the ipod won't respond! I'm not sure what to do. Than I thought the USB port was messed up because it doesn't always work, but I plugged it into a diferent port and it said on the ipod, charging isn't supported with this accessory.

  • How to Disable battery charging Function?

    Hi;
I have a question about charging funtion of my "HP Compaq Business Notebook, 6720s":
How can I disable "battery charging" function in windows 7? Is there any "advanced setting change" or "software"  that while battery is in its slot, stop my notebook from charging its battery?
    Thanks

After some days trying many methods, yet I haven't find a solution to my problem. Then I ask is there  any one
knows which software should I download for HP Compaq Power Management (similar to the software that Huffer
mentioned, but that was for Lenovo) or which registery or BIOS change should I do , so that I can manually disable
charging function of laptop, or at least put a starting level that up to that level, laptop won't start
autolatically to charge battery, because in this manner once that my Battery reaches to below 100%, instantly begin
to be charged & it would decrease its life time. Please consider that because of my power cable is to some damaged, sometimes it suddenly disrubt & cause my laptop abruptly shut down, then necessarily the battery would always be connected tob prevent this suddent effect.
If any one could help me, I would appreciate him a lot.
    Regards
