Disable the "enter a password to unlock the disk" prompt

is there a way to disable the "enter a password to unlock the disk" prompt? My macbook has 2 logical drives, one of them is encrypted, and everytime I start the Mac os x it pops up with that prompt.
Any help is appreciated!

You would have to create the file /etc/fstab with an entry to prevent the volume from mounting automatically. That's advanced system hacking that I don't recommend, but if you want to do it, see the fstab(5) man page for instructions (you must be shell-literate to do this.) Otherwise you're going to be prompted.

  • Enter a password to unlock the disk???

I've been using a Seagate portable backup for my Time Machine backup.  I noticed it wasn't recognizing the disk so I unplugged it (got the "disk was not ejected properly" one time) and plugged it back in.  Then I clicked on the little clock in my menu bar to open Time Machine and when I clicked on Set Preferences I got a pop up with a little house icon with a dial in the middle and the message"enter a password to unlock the disk.  I tried entering what I thought was my password (same one as what locks my computer) and it froze.  What is going on-?  HELP!!!!

Hmm. Another good question... i don't remember!? It now contins two partitions; _backup, which is Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) and Owners Enabled: Yes, and a partition labeled Data which is also Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) but Owners Enabled: No.
From this discussion it is apparent that the _backup partition is the one needing a password, none of which I use(d) works.

  • Uccx , name to user step, disable the default prompt on failure

How Can i disable the default prompt on "name to user" step. If user put the wrong entery, I want my prompt would play rathar than default prompt which says: " You have entered the name of the user but I cannot find it, please press 0 to talk to operator"
    Thanks,
    HM

Set "Maximum Retries" to 0, handle errors manually on the Unsuccessful/Timeout branches. As for the actual prompt played, simply set this as desired P[myPrompt.wav] or pMyNamedUserPrompt as appropriate.

  • How do I disable a entering a password when I login to my Mac?

When I first got my MBA I was told to choose a password that i would enter at login, because it would make my computer safer. I have decided that since my computer never leaves my desk and I am the only one in my apartment. That I want to disable my password on my mac. The only thing close to this that I can find is how to change my password to something different. But I would just like to stop entering a password altogether.
I am not sure if this is possible, please help me. Thanks

I was just about to add what Babowa beat me to.
An option she forgot to mention is to set up two user accounts. One is an admin account only used to administer the computer. The second is the operating account. It is a Standard or Managed account in which the use of a password isn't so necessary because a standard account user cannot administer the computer. But whenever you want to make changes requiring the password, then you have to logout of your standard account and log into the Admin account.

  • How can I disable the telemetry prompt in kiosk mode from user preference.

We are running firefox in kiosk mode , I am using r_kiosk plugin to disable all the functionality, and update the user pref with following , but still getting the telemetry prompt is showing up.
    pref("toolkit.telemetry.prompted", false);
    pref("toolkit.telemetry.rejected", true);
    pref("toolkit.telemetry.enabled", false);
    rpm : firefox-24.4.0-1.el6.centos.x86_64
Do we have any option to increase the frequency / manually initiative the telemetry prompt to verify after updating the user preference.

The about:config page shows toolkit.telemetry.prompted as an Integer pref with value 2 for me.
    *toolkit.telemetry.enabled = true
    *toolkit.telemetry.prompted = 2
    *toolkit.telemetry.rejected = true

  • How do I disable the language prompt when hyperlinking to a .pdf?

I created an index in Microsoft Word (some of the indexed items are farther on in the same Word document; some are separate Excel or .pdf documents).  When I click on an index term that should take me to a .pdf, before the .pdf opens I get a prompt asking me whether I want English, Deutsch or Francais.  How to I get this prompt to go away?  Thanks! --demanian

    Hello!
    I have the same problem.
If I work on a local machine (with Acrobat PRO), it works by MS-Word link, but on RDP-session (with Acrobat READER) the MS-Word Link causes the language-prompt.
By opening the PDF with Acrobat PRO, the language settings of the PDF show the correct language, but by opening the the same PDF with Acrobat Reader there is no language shown.
So it is simple to explain the prompt.
But why does the Acrobat READER does not identify the language? I changed the language with PRO and saved the PDF, but READER also identifies no language.
READER and PRO are in the latest version and get updated automaticlly.
    Who knows?

  • HT201401 voice wont let me enter my password to unlock keeps repeating BF

My phone was accidentially turned onto voice over mode, what ever that is. I turned it off from the menu bu that didnt work then the screen lock sctivated now when i enter the correct screen unlock code which the stupid iphone speaks out loud ! it get to the end says bf yes literally B F! nd returns to the pass code screen.
    so
yes i do have the right passcode
yes i have tried using itunes to restore
no i dont want to buy another one.
my carrier hung up twice on trying to ask how to unlock they obviously prefer to pretend that they complete calls rather than escalate to anyone who kows any thing
the carrier is three mobile ( good tarrifs terrible support, no worse that terrible)
aside from buying an htc what the heck can i do

Tap the home button 3 times to disable voice over. If that does not work, tap it 4 times. And remember, it must be done *quickly*
Alternately, open iTunes, plug in your iPhone to the PC/Mac running iTunes... On the summary page of your iPhone, under ACCESSIBILITY (did I spell that right?), turn VOICEOVER off.

  • How do I disable the credentials prompt on Lion/ML for common tasks?

I am a long time PC user and have always used Microsoft operating systems, mainly since that was where I started 20 years ago. Although I know I'll never get away from MS products I have, for various reasons, decided to move to a Mac for my day-to-day usage as I really like OS X. One of the reasons I chose this move was because of the many annoyances that Microsoft has decided to implement in their later operating systems, such as not installing the telnet client by default, enabling UAC by default and so on. It seems the good folks at Microsoft have decided that they know better what is good for thier users and although these things can be changed it is still a pain in the backside.
I recently purchased a Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion and it seems Apple has decided to follow suit in that everytime I want to delete or move a file or even make changes to the system I get prompted for my credential and I cannot find a way to disable this. I don't need (or want) to have to "verify" my decision so I'm hoping someone can tell me how to fix this. I realize that it is a safety feature but there should be a way for user who are OS-savvy to turn this off.

This isn't a "feature" that Apple has recently implemented, but simply a result of the UNIX permissions-based underpinnings of OS X.  The actions that you're attempting to perform all seem to involve manipulation of folders, files or settings that are owned by the Admin user or Root - hence the prompt for a username and password.  This is not something that you can turn off à la UAC, but a fundamental aspect of OS X.
It may be that your way of approaching OS X after years of Windows PC use is causing you to undertake certain actions in inappropriate contexts.  For example, have you created an Admin user?  OS X is far more multi-user focused than any of the Windows flavours have been heretofore (I haven't yet tried 8, but am experienced with XP and 7).  If you find yourself doing a lot of things that require Admin authentication, you should simply log in as an Admin user.  Fast User Switching makes this a piece of cake.
Of course, it could be that you're experiencing permissions issues.  In which case, you could try reading this article.
    HTH.

  • Same as everyone else....forgotten password, divice disabled after entering wrong password, says to connect to itunes but wont let me because i cant enter my password..NOW WHAT?

im an amateur when it comes to this stuff, but catch on quickly. i have found all sorts of push these two buttons, hold and wait for apple, plug in, and that is where i get stuck...........ugh!

Have you tried either of these methods to restore?
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

  • Ipad Disabled, I know my password, never sync'd it to itunes, wont connect to itunes...

Title technically explains everything but here is the story....
Some idiot at work tried to guess my password on my iPad; he tried enough times that it disabled it.
I have never sync'd my iPad to iTunes.
    I DO know my password.
I installed iTunes on my computer for the first time and now my iTunes wont recognize my iPad.
Keeps claiming that I need to enter the password to unlock it....
Little hard to enter the password to unlock it when it does not give me the option to enter a password to unlock it.
Please tell me that in 24 hours it will allow me to enter my password and unlock itself.....
Or there is someway to bypass the disable to unlock this machine....
Please do not tell me Apple wasted millions of dollars reinventing the same device for the last ten years and put a simple task involving recovery issues without complete factory restore on the back burner....
    In before....
You are going to have factory restore it....
You should have sync'd it to an computer via iTunes
You should have purchased a tablet from a reputable company.....

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
    Note: Data will be lost.

  • Why can I not disable the guest user in the 10.8.2 update? I have never enabled the guest user, but after the update, it was automatically enabled with a "managed" tag. It is not selectable even after entering my admin password to unlock the options.

Why can I not disable the guest user in the 10.8.2 update? I have never enabled the guest user, but after the update, it was automatically enabled with a "managed" tag. It is not selectable even after entering my admin password to unlock the options. I was able to select the account under "parental controls", but again, could not delete it. Why Apple? Why?!!????

SOLVED Ok. I actually was able to disable it. I had to actually log in as the guest user to make it accessible in the preference window. Then I disabled it and logged out. Apologies if this was obvious for some people, but I have had some sort of issue with something every update since Snow Leopard.
