Disable Touchpad? (HP Pavilion dv5020US, Windows XP Pro w/SP3)

I have an HP Pavilion dv5020US running Windows XP Pro, version 2002, Service Pack 3; I would like to disable the touchpad.  (I have a mouse connected that's working great, and the touchpad really just gets in the way.)
I've tried Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Mouse > Hardware, but it appears that both devices are associated with the USB wireless mouse I have installed.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Thank you for quick reply.
I'd been in this realtek download site and already downloaded the sound driver "WDM_R238" for XP.
As HP instructions, I must install first the Microsoft UAA HD Audio driver then follow by this Realtek driver.
It still same, sound icons is there, Windows Audio OK, Speaker/headphones had been changed, mute disable. But still I don't have a sound..
Is there anything I's missed in the process?
Thank you.
Ochie

  • Buggy iTunes in an old Windows XP Pro. SP3?

    Hello.
A few days ago, I downloaded and installed the (lat/new)est iTunes (never had it before) into my old, updated Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine because I got an unwanted, used iPod Touch (first generation) and iPod Nano (6th generation) for free. I seem to have problems with iTunes though:
    1. I tried (creat/mak)ing a brand new account, but nothing happens after clicking on its link and showing "Accessing iTunes Store" message in iTunes' top status screen. I even tried rebooting to see if my machine just in case, but that did not help. Same with IE6 to IE8 upgrade with its required reboot.
    2. During a synch with iPod Nano, there was a mobile.exe something crash when syncing (had to restore backup to one of my iPods that left tons of mess (half of it was "other" instead of audio) on its storage after iTunes did a verification).
Is it me or is iTunes really buggy and slow? Does Apple even have an web version of iTunes? Google search didn't seem to show it.
    Thank you in advance.

I only see mdnsDSP from Apple in my WinSock Provider tabs in AutoRuns v11.70. I do remember I had a low memory error during a very long synchronization, but that only happened once. I doubt that is related to creating a new account especially after I rebooted my very old Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine.

  • Can;t access Touchpad Settings - Just installed Windows 10 Pro

I just installed Windows 10 Pro and can't access my touchpad settings to get the scolling feature back.  A short while ago, when I connected my basic Microsoft mouse, the system did install a new driver for the mouse - could this be the problem? Or is it Windows 10?  Thanks for any help you can give. Toshiba Laptop Satellite C55-B

I had the same problem. The settings would crash. The synaptics driver update fixed that for me. However after adjusting some settings a new problem emerged. Three Finger Gestures have changed from the default Windows 10 ones to the old Synaptics gestures. There doesn't seem to be a way to change it back. I think the Synaptics driver needs another update.

Resize or crop the photo to 960 pixels by 640 pixels, then email it to yourself.  Open the email on your phone, tap the attached photo and choose Save to save it to your camera roll.  You can then select the photo from your camera roll to use as your wallpaper (by going to Settings>Wallpapers & Brightness and tapping the wallpaper shown, if using iOS 7).  The wallpaper on the left in settings is your lock screen background, the image on the right is your home screen wallpaper.

The touchpad on the envy 17 is giving me fits.  I'd like to disable it.  I've done it on THIS computer, quite simply, in the past but a recent software update and tech support phone call/interaction may have changed that.  Once located in a different place, the option for  'disable' function is greyed out.   I've checked other inquiries of same or similar requests.  For the record, after reasing past posts, there is NO Hardware option from the Control Panel as suggested here:Click start- Click control panel- Click Hardware and Sound- Under "Devices and Printers" click on "Mouse"- Click the "ClickPad Settings" tab- Place a check in "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" This process referenced also is unavailable:Control Panel > MouseSelect Clickpad settings tabTick "Disable internal ...."Click Apply then OK to get out.To get it back, untick #3 above.   This is very frustrating. Please help.

  • I have Windows XP Pro with SP3, Adobe 11 installed yesterday today it failed

Installed Adobe Flash Player 11 (version 3.3.7.0) yesterday and today joined an online meeting and
the Adobe Flash Player Settings screen appeared requesting permission to store information on my hard drive.   I clicked on the "Allow" button multiple times, but the Adobe screen remained on the screen and would not go away (blocking the text I was trying to read behind it).  I could not click and move the Adobe screen or get it to "allow" at all.
I went to Adobe Flash Player Help online and added
Adobe Flash Player, but could not browse to the Flash Player file on my hard drive.
    Thanks for you help,

    Pat;
Yes, I have already done that with the Adobe Flash Player Manager, I then removed Adobe Flash Player 11, rebooted and reinstalled it.
I will then retry using Adobe Flash Player 11 with an online meeting to check and see if it will "Allow" or not.

  • XP Pro. SP3 keeps telling me about HD Audio Controller that is disabled in CMOS!

    Hello.
I just got my new MSI P43 Neo3-F motherboard, MSI Radeon 4870 512 MB video card, etc. yesterday. My friend and I are puzzled why Windows XP Pro. SP3 keeps asking for the driver at bootup/login. We even tried the latest BIOS (successful upgrade via a bootable 3.5" DOS disk), and that did not fix it.
Does anyone know what's up? Is there another CMOS setting(s) we missed to completely disable it? I want to use my Creative Audigy 2 ZS soundcard.
    Thank you in advance.

Its thier method of getting digital sound output through HDMI without requiring extra cabling from the m/b or sound card to the VGA card.
Ah and thanks. Useless for me now since I still use a 15 years old or so CRT TV and don't use HDMI. Once my TV dies or goes bad, I will get a HDTV.

  • Unable to fully sync with iPod Touch 1G and the (new/lat)est iTunes versions in a very old Windows XP Pro SP3 machine?

    Hi.
I keep getting this "The iPod '...' cannot be synced. The disk is locked and cannot be written to." error when I try to sync my 11 GB of music from my very old, updated Windows XP Pro SP3 machine to an old iPod Touch 1G (iOS v3.1.3). It has a brand new (lat/new)est iTunes installations too. I tried rebooting the the machine, disconnecting USB cables, etc. None of them helped. I did not have this problem in the end of 2013.
"Attempting to copy to the disk '...' failed. The device timed out."
"The iPod '...' cannot be synched. An internal device error occurred."
Sometimes Windows XP Pro SP3 thinks my USB connection is not fast? Huh?
No problems when I synched almost 8 GB of music to an iPod Nano 6G from the same machine and USB connector and port. Same collection, and random songs.
I tried again on a borrowed old 15" MacBook Pro (mid-2008) with Mac OS X 10.5.8 and iTunes v10.6.3. Synced from its local HDD to it without any problems.
So, I had an idea. I retried with iTunes v11.1.3.8, that I used end of 2013, in the same Windows XP Pro SP3 machine from scratch. It worked like the end of last year! No errors! Wow! :O
OK, so what changed in iTunes after its v11.1.3.8 to cause this problem?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi:
If you make your set of W8.1 recovery media in case something goes wrong, you can find the W7 x64 drivers you need for your model at the link below.  Do not use any of the BIOS or firmware files from this model on yours.

You will also have to go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot in order to install and run windows 7.

  • Clean install of Windows 7 Pro or Enterprise creates update issues on Pavilion G6 notebooks

    Hello,
Our small company has 5 older HP Pavilion g6 notebooks running Window 7 Home edition.  We wanted to make them, and a few other Acer laptops, part of our domain.  So, we did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro (you can't upgrade with a volume license key).  After the install, the HP laptops have windows update issues and currupt installs.  The Acer laptops installed with no issues.   I've tried installing the Enterprise version with the same results.  I tried installing from dvd and usb, both with the same results.  Any idea?
    Thank You

Hi, Sorry for the late reply. It seems to be kinda stable now.  Updates would never work from the getgo.  I had to reinstall update agent a few times and run the update troubleshooter found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/windows-update-issues/en-us  Until I got it working, I used Autopatcher to install updates. However, the computer isn't stable enough though to allow someone to use it for work.  I don't recommend doing a clean install on these machines.

  • Yoga 13, Windows 8 Pro, Single-Click sometimes results in Double-Click

I'm using a brand new Yoga 13 (Window 8 Pro).  Clicking on the touchpad (not the touch screen) sometimes has issues.  Specifically, every once in a while, a single-click on the touchpad will result in double-click behavior.
I'm not referring to tapping, but rather physical clicking (press, depress touchpad on the lower left).
I disabled tap-to-click in case it was registering the tap, and then the click.  That didn't resolve the issue.
I also increased the speed required (within Windows) for a double-click to the fastest (least time between clicks) possible.  That also didn't resolve the issue.
It really seems like the touchpad, every once in a while, registers a double-click, like some sort of physical defect in the touchpad that presses, depresses, presses depresses immediately.
    Ideas?

I'm running Windows 8 (Not Pro) on a brand new Yoga 13 and am experiencing the same probem.  It doesnt happen all the time but just enough to be really annoying.  It seems like if I try right clicking I can get it to stop.

But every time I am working on my laptop I seem to touch my touchpad by accident or make to much pressure on the keyboard and then my cursor is going suddenly to another place in the senctence en am I typing complete garbage. This is something that I had resolved under XP by disabling the touchpad. But now, under windows 7 there's no possebillity tot do so.
Please can someone help me to disable the touchpad?
Typing this little piece of text takes me so much longer while my cursor goes everytime while I am typing to another location in the words.

    > I have an problem with my built in cam, it wont work because the cable may be defect. Is it possible that this could be the problem?
Dont think that this would affect the Flash Card installation
I read in some forums that the cable may be lose since its connect the internal webcam with an USB controller on the motherboard.
    > the problem is that the Flash Card Utilities wont install. (see picture through link)
In your case it looks like Flash Cards are part of the VAP.
Dont change anything while VAP installation.
There is an additional Flash Card utility:
    [Flash Cards Support Utility 1.58.0.2C for Vista 64bit|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=819&selSho rtMod=null&language=13&selOS=27&selType=all&yearup load=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=al lMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=all &selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=2&ID=66865&OSID =27&driverLanguage=13]
Try to install the Flash Card utility released for Vista should work too.
In such case you should also choose the VAP for Vista too.

  • I am using Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit on a brand new PC, and cannot connect to the iTunes store using iTunes version 10.  HELP!!

Ok, so after purchasing a new computer, with windows 7 pro, 64 bit, I tried downloading the newest iTunes, which at the time was 10.2.1 (i believe).  After installation, everything seemed to work, except that iTunes was unable to securely connect to the internet, use home sharing, or validate my computer.
As troubleshooting, I first ran msconfig, and then turned OFF all programs that boot at start up EXCEPT itunes and quicktime.  After a restart, i opened itunes again, and got the same result.  That led me to believe that iTunes was NOT being blocked by another program on my machine.  I am currently running itunes 10.7 successfully on a Windows 7 32 machine at work.  Anyhow, for grins, I tried to install version 9 on the new computer, and it installed perfectly, and immediately connected to the itunes store, leading me to believe that there is nothing wrong with my software configuration (not sure if this is a safe assumption or not).  I then tried to let iTunes update itself using the automated update function.  It tried to update itself to the most current version, then 10.6.  Again, iTunes was unable to connect to the iTunes store.  I HAVE tried disabling the anti-virus software (AVG), but that made no difference.
I have since gone back and reinstalled iTunes 9.  Here's the catch though.  When I reinstalled using version 9, I had to redo all my library files.  I'm about 1/2 way through my CD's, and now have a substantial library file going.  The last time I let iTunes update itself to 10.6, once I realized that it was not going to connect to the store, I uninstalled iTunes, and reinstalled ver. 9.  However, when I did this, it told me it could no longer open the library file, because it was a newer .itl or .xml (i believe it was one of those two extensions) library file.  At that point, I basically started everything over again, using version 9, and have been importing CD's like a madman at night.
    Here are my questions:
    1) Is there a way to make a copy of the files that store my library info, so that if my upgrade to ver 10 IS NOT SUCCESSFUL, I can restore ver 9, but still have all of the album art work, playlists (when I import music, I create a playlist with the artists' name, and store things that way), etc. in tact?
    2) What else can I try (firewall settings, internet options, etc.) to try and get version to to successfully install?  I would really like to get all the benfits of the newer versions.
    3) When I tried to get apple tech support before, they wanted me to pay a ridiculous 69$ fee for phone support.  I just bought an iphone 5....this should entitle me to a fresh 90 days of phone support, right?  The reason I ask here is that I could hardly understand the "tech" that answered the phone when I called for tech support last time, and to be honest, it really ****** me off that they wanted to try and milk me for another 69 bucks....I've purchased every iPhone since the 3Gs came out (pre-ordered at that), and have nearly gone broke purchasing music from their iTunes store....heck, maybe they're doing me me a favor not letting me into the store, huh?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated,
    -Brian
