Disable update notification for Flash Player 15.x and newer

Dear all
We run a Citrix Environment (on Windows 2008 R2) and we have our monthly update window. Users complain that they get update notifications for Flash Player when a new version is available but they cannot install the update since they have no permissions to install or update any software on our locked down Citrix environment. We tried already all availabe guides regarding "disable update notification for Flash Player" but no guide seems to work with the latest Version 15.x.
Which registry key's oder files do we have to modify with what values to finally disable update notifications for Flash Player.
Thanks a lot for your help!

Please check out the System Administrator's Guide for a list of possible approaches:

  • Flash Player 11.7 and newer CRASHES IE 9 and Firefox on Windows 7

If you've read the title, you know where I'm at.  Flash crashes as soon as any page with Flash content is visited.  A popular suggestion is to disable Hardware Acceleration, but I cannot do that as the player never loads far enough to let me to do that.
Here's what I've tried so far:
    - Uninstalled flash using the Uninstaller tool, verified that both Plugin and ActiveX versions of Flash were gone.  Then did a re-install.
    - Cleared Flash cache data (from the Control Panel applet)
    - Cleared browser caches from both browsers
    - Disabled Protected Mode in both system32 and sysWOW64 locations using the mms.cfg file
    What HAS worked:
    - Downgrading the Plugin version (Firefox) to version 10.3.
NOTE:  I cannot install the ActiveX (IE) version to 10.3, as installer quits when it finds that there's a newer version available for download!  Additionally, I cannot find a repository for previous versions of Adobe Flash Player ANYWHERE anymore.  Adobe's Website, OldApps.com and FileHippo.com...  none of them offer previous version of Flash anymore.  It was a miracle I was able to find the 10.3 installers.  Apparently, it's the latest version or nothing.  This does my client precisely zero good.
Unfortunately, this is a client's computer that I'm doing remote support with, so I don't have constant access to it.
    Please help!

  • Flash Player 10.3 and Internet Explorer 9 update and workarounds

    Hello Flash Player community,
We are tracking the issues being reported on Flash Player 10.3.181.14 and Internet Explorer 9 and actively investigating them.  Users are reporting that Flash content is being displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.  We want to give those who are encountering these issues an update.
First, we apologize to everyone affected.  We know you count on Flash Player as an integral component of the web and we strive for high quality and performance in each release.  We are actively looking into the root cause of this issue.  Thanks to many of you submitting information via email and our online bug database, we now have some solid leads we are pursuing.
Flash Player 10 and later can use your system’s graphics hardware to accelerate video decoding, and can also accelerate video presentation on some sites. Starting with Flash Player 10.2, Flash Player will also take advantage of hardware accelerated graphics in Internet Explorer 9, utilizing hardware rendering surfaces to improve graphics performance.
With Flash Player 10.3.181.14, reports indicate that systems with Intel HD Graphics adapters running Internet Explorer 9 are the only systems impacted by this particular bug.  If you are encountering this issue and have a different configuration we'd love to hear from you.  Please review the instructions on this page for details on generating the information we'll need for further investigation.
    Solution #1
Adobe has officially released Flash Player 10.3.181.16 for Internet Explorer to address the graphical issues introduced in 10.3.181.14.  You can get this release by visiting our official download page, directly downloading and running the installer file, or using the Flash Player auto update mechanism.
After installing, we recommend you re-enable hardware acceleration if you had it previously disabled.  We also recommend you clear your browser cache and restart your system.
If you continue to encounter issues, please create a new thread and we'll do our best to investigate further.
    Solution #2
On some systems, you may be able to resolve this issue by updating the Intel HD Graphics drivers. It has been reported that driver versions 8.15.10.2361 and above do not exhibit this bug. Unfortunately, some systems might require updates directly from your system manufacturer. We’re working with system manufacturers to make sure they include the latest drivers in future releases.
    Solution #3
You can disable hardware acceleration in Internet Explorer 9 using the instructions on this page. Please note that you should re-enable hardware acceleration once this problem has been resolved to enjoy the full benefits of hardware acceleration.
    Thank you,
    The Flash Player team
Update 5/20/11 - We've temporarily disabled the automatic update notification for Flash Player 10.3 and Internet Explorer.  We're making progress on a fix and hope to have a new version available next week.
Update 5/24/11 - Added link to the 10.3.181.15 test update
Update 5/27/11 - Added instructions for post install of 10.3.181.15
Update 5/31/11 - Updated thread with the official 10.3.181.16 announcement

FOR THOSE RUNNING IE9 ON WINDOWS 7 AND HAVE INSTALLED THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE FOR ADOBE FLASH PLAYER 10.3 - TAKE THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
Open IE9 Browser window > Click on "Tools" > Click on "Internet Options" > Selct the "Advanced" Tab > Turn on/Click the "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" > Click "Apply" > Click "OK" > Shut down and then restart your IE9 browser.
THIS WILL BE A TEMPORARY FIX FOR ANY ISSUES YOU MAY HAVE WITH THE CONSTANT FLOOD OF FLASHING ADS AND THE LIKE UNTIL A PATCH IS MADE AVAILABLE FOR THIS UPDATE.
    OTHER QUICK FIXES WOULD INCLUDE:
    1) UN-INSTALLING 10.3 AND RE-DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING 10.2 FOR THE TIME BEING. **BE SURE TO AVOID RE-INSTALLING THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE OF 10.3 AGAIN**
    2) DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING "MOZILLA FIREFOX" AND USING IT AS YOUR WEB BROWSER!!

  • How to really, really disable auto-update popups from flash player?

    I have here a serious problem under 64bit Win7.
More and more frequently a popup appears prompting me (or even start download without prompt!!)if a new flash player should be installed.
When I proceed it shows the progress bar and downloads the package and installation started until the "done" button is shown.
Then I re-open Internet Explorer 9 again and re-vist the last webpage and ....the download starts again.
    This is really annoying.
How do I really, really stop forever update prompts for flash player plugins for Firefox and Internet Explorer?
    Peter

    Hi pxstein,
Thanks for posting the screenshots, especially the one of the Process Explorer.  It indicates that this is not an auto-update install situation.  This type of installation is triggered via content on the page that requires a newer version of Flash Player (your screenshot indicates you have 11.8.800.94) and the content provider has decided to use this type of installation (we support several types that content providers can implement).  Since this type of installation is controlled by the content, there isn't a way to disable it.  Normally, IE displays a User Account Control dialog window or a dialog bar at the bottom of the page asking if you want to save/run the file.  I don't see these in your screenshots and you don't mention if they displayed or not.  If not, you may have disabled this warning at some point in time.
Flash Player 11.8 is very old and very vulnerable to security issues and we've released many security updates since then.  My recommendation is to update Flash Player to the latest version, 15.0.0.167 for Internet Explorer (15.0.0.152 for non-IE browsers on Windows).  If you don't want the latest features available in Flash Player 15, you can install what we refer to as the Extended Support Release (ESR) version.  This is a previous stable version that we only release security updates for.  Currently this is 13.0.0.244 for both Internet Explorer and non-IE browsers on Windows.
To download the latest version, go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer using Internet Explorer
To download the ESR version, go to Adobe Flash Player Distribution | Adobe.  The links to download the FP 13 ESR version are at the bottom of the page.

  • Which of these 2 articles is correct on Pentium processor system requirement for Flash Player 10?

http://www.ehow.com/info_8526453_flash-player-10-system-requirements.html says that Flash Player 10 on Windows computers requires "a Pentium 4 processor running at 2.33 GHz or an Athalon 64 2800+ processor."
    However, http://www.downloadatoz.com/essentialware/adobe-flash-player/what-is-system-requirement-of -adobe-flash-player-10_g.html says:
"System Requirements of Adobe Flash Player 10:
    • Windows 2000, XP(SP2 and above), Windows Server, Windows Vista., Macintosh OS X, Linux
    • Intel Pentium 450MHz, AMD Athlon 600MHz processor (for Windows);...(for Mac)"
My ThinkPad PC does not meet the processor system requirement for Flash Player 11 or 12, and does not meet what ehow.com (above) says is the processor system requirement for Flash Player 10. However, it does meet what www.downloadatoz.com (above) says is the processor system requirement for Flash Player 10. Adobe.com has the operating system requirements for Flash Player 10, but no longer has the processor system requirement for Flash Player 10.
    My question is:
    (a) Is that "Intel Pentium 450MHz [or] Intel Core Dual" system requirement (from downloadatoz.com) for Flash Player 10.0 and that "Pentium 4 processor running at 2.33 GHz" system requirement (from ehow.com) for a later version of Flash Player 10 (like 10.1); or (b) is one of those two sources (ehow.com and downloadatoz.com) mistaken as to the processor system requirement for Flash Player 10 on Windows computers? If (b), which of those two is the correct Pentium system requirement for Flash Player 10?

What processor does your thinkpad have?
I know they now come with an Intel M, which is the functional equivalent of the Atom, and for ALL intents and purposes, meets the minimum for Flash Player 12 or 13 as long as it's 1.66gHz or faster.
Using, or even considering using, Flash Player 10 in a system newer than Windows 98 or 2000 (SP1 or 2), is unwise and unsafe, expecially if it isn't a "standalone" (not connected) system.

    Hi,
i'm a new member of this community. I've recently learn about flashback malware and other threats to Mac devices. I've installed the new Mac OS X update for Lion 10.7, and the flashback removal tool. What about the update for Flash Player? Should i install it? Otherwise, should i permanently remove this app?
    I realy need some advice.
    Thank's to all.

Be sure to install the latest version of Safari (version 5.1.7) which is available via Software Update (in the Apple menu) if you have not already installed it. This update will automatically disable older versions of Flash when new versions are available, and will instruct you on how to install the latest version on your system. This should help keep your system safe from any vulnerabilities in Flash.
Note that this is only useful if you use Safari, though other browsers have their own update mechanisms you should research and enable or configure to your liking.

  • Notification of Flash player version updates

Looking for an auto-notification means by which we can be prompted of pending Flash Player update releases so we can package the new version for distribution of our users ahead of time.

This is actually pretty easy, and we provide pre-packaged bundles of the ActiveX and NPAPI versions of Flash Player ready for distribution through AD/SCUP/SCPD/etc.
We also provide an Extended Support Release, which is still patched with security fixes and released in parallel with our generally available release, but the intent is to insulate organizations from the risks associated with new feature development, while keeping the up-to-date from a security perspective.  For organizations that have strict testing requirements for feature-bearing product updates, this is our way of providing pain relief as browser release cadences and the security landscape have necessitated a much faster cadence for Flash.
First things first, you need to apply for a Flash Player distribution agreement.  It's free.  The license for the individual download doesn't technically grant you permission to repackage and redistribute the player, plus you don't get access to all of the prepared packages and notices.
We expect some changes on the distribution side of the house to increase the number of applications coming in soon, so if you're redistributing Flash Player inside your organization now and you don't have a current distribution agreement, take a few minutes to fill out a fresh agreement before we get absolutely crushed with new requests and our processing time takes a hit.
Adobe Flash Player Distribution | Adobe
Once you've been approved, which should hopefully be pretty quick, you'll get access to our distribution portal, and I believe you'll get automatic notifications by virtue of being on the distribution list.
You should probably also sign up for the Adobe Security Notification Service, just so you're sure to be notified of critical updates to any of our products that may be on your network:
    Adobe - Security Notification Service
Here's the system administrator's guide for Flash Player, which probably has some stuff you'll find useful:
Adobe Flash Player Administration Guide for Flash Player 14 | Adobe Developer Connection
Flash Player releases on a monthly cadence, aligned to Microsoft Patch Tuesday, in addition to occasional out-of-cycle releases, when we need to address critical security issues.
Flash Player also includes an automatic update service, which we highly recommend that you take advantage of, particularly if you're already really busy.  If you're updating on an ad-hoc basis, you're leaving your users exposed to threats that we've already mitigated.  Given the level of sophistication we're seeing with both organized crime and nation-state sponsored hacking, it doesn't take long to do a binary diff of a new version and reverse-engineer the fixes for use against older versions.
While we work closely with our partners in the security and research communities, and the vast majority of those updates are the results of issues that are discovered and disclosed responsibly, it's important to keep your clients updated, especially when we're issuing out-of-cycle patches when an active exploit has been identified in the field.
Anyway, I think the resources above will keep you informed of anything critical and give you access to all of the tools necessary to distribute Flash Player inside your organization, while minimizing the associated work.
    Good luck!

I reset my apple ID password here on the website, but my computer isn't recognizing my new password. what should I do? I just need to update my adobe flash player but it keeps asking me for my password but won't take my new password I just updated.

"If you've forgotten the Apple ID password how did you log in to make the last post?"
Exactly! The password I used to log on here and write my post I figured was the same Apple ID password I would use to reset my computer login password. But my computer isn't recognizing it as the correct password so it wont let me update my login password. I have 2 user accounts on my computer.
As far as the link you provided, I already looked to that for help earlier. It states:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Users & Groups, click the lock to unlock it, then provide an administrator name and password. Select a user, then click Reset Password.
I did these steps, but I don't remember my admin password. The question is: How do I reset my admin password so I can reset my log in password.
Is my admin password the same password I use to log onto this website to post questions? If so, like I said previously, I already reset that password and my computer isnt recognizing it.

  • Why being asked for Flash Player update in Acrobat 9.5.2?

In trying to view a PDF created in Captivate (for Flash Player 9) viewer is being old cannot see the PDF without updating Flash Player (running Windows XP). The problem is not there using Acrobat Reader 9.2. I thought Flash Player was incorporated into Acrobat Reader?

It used to be, but in the updates for the Acrobat 9 Family (and in the Acrobat XI Family) it has been removed. See here for an explanation.

If you already have an older version of Flash Player, open the Preference pane and select Check Now... under the Update portion under the General tab:
You shouldn't have to install a new version from the website (I'm not even sure if you can) if you've already installed Flash Player.
