Disable Updates in PSE 11

I need to disable update notifications in PSE11. When I access the update Preferences, un-check all the boxes, and click OK and then re-enter via Preferences all the boxes are again checked.
This is on a PC with a locked-down configuration to prevent user changes and it reverts to the original configuration on every reboot. This means that the users are continually notified of the available updates.

Yes, an icon appears in the Windows 7 notiifcation area that Adobe Application Manager has updates available. It doesn't specify the app but PSE is the only Adobe app installed on the PC (besides Reader).
When I open PSE and navigate to <Help> <Updates> <Preferences>, clear all the checkboxes, exit, then come right back, all the boxes are checked just like they were before I started.
PSE is starting in the Editor.

But the adobe bridge which is present with in photoshop, "Help"->"update" option is not greyed out and thows error "unable to update, you do not have internet connection or you are not an system administrator". Same is the case with AAMEE configuration.
But if I delete this preference file, then I can launch it. Here my requirement is to grey our the update option both in photoshop and bridge as this will be deployed enterprise wide. Help me out how I can do this?

See if this helps (as taken from Adobe helpx http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/disable-update-manager-administrators-cs3.html. Looks like CS3 & CS4, I know. But worth giving a shot:
On Windows XP or Windows Vista
      Using Regedit.exe, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe
      Create a new key in this folder named "Updater"
      Create a new DWORD value within this key named "Enterprise with a value of "1"
Also, try one or both of these:
HKLM\Software\Adobe\Updater - Create a DWORD named 'Enterprise' with value '1'.
HKCU\Software\Adobe\Updater - Create a DWORD named 'Enterprise' with value '1'.
HKLM - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKCU - HKEY_CURRENT_USER
(I'm sure you're aware of this, but for other users who visit this thread for similar issue - this will help!)

I have been updating my PSE since 10. Recently I purchased PSE13 as I didn't see an update for my 12. I was changing to a new laptop as my old laptop had been patched and worked and was showing signs of giving out. It was a Window's 7OS. My new one is a Windows 8 OS so I bought the 13 and downloaded it on the new laptop. Our desktop had died so I downloaded the 13 on the new desk computer also. Not thinking I downloaded 13 on my old laptop as I hope to get it patched up enough to be a backup for my photography. When I tried to activate it I realized that I had downloaded it too often. I didn't know you could only use it on two computers. Learn something new every day.. Any way I removed it and now my PSE 12 does not seem to be working. Now it could be something that I did or something that is an issue with the laptop. this laptop has all the previous editions on board as I always tried to update, except for the year I got a really good deal on Black Friday. I also notice that the new laptop has a copy of PSE 12 in the program list. To my knowledge I have never deactivated any of my PSE's except the extra 13 downloaded. Bottom line, do I need to go in and deactivate previous PSE versions and removed them from my computer? I could certainly use the space and secondly, can I deactivate the PSE 12 and then go back and reacitivate it and install it again on the old laptop or the desktop, whichever I deside would be the most appropriate place for the newer program. For the PSE 12 since it is an updater for 11, does the 11 still need to be on the laptop? thanks for anyone who can understand what I am trying to say and can advise me as to my next move. There is a world of information in these forums if you use the search function near the top right of this page. Just type in NAS for example and you get many threads on the subject (marked with a green checkmark if it solved the question) another example would be Airport Exterme and sound system. Once you formulate your ideas better then specific questions can be addressed one at a time. You may find that a less expensive choice for a server might be a mac mini. Good luck with your project, ask more specific questions and update you systems profile.

However importing many users profiles to different computers may require a new profile for each user.
Currently there is an option to import bookmarks from other browsers, but not preferences.

Non-functional Java Control Panel Refuses to Disable Updates

Hope this is the right place to post! I cannot disable updates for Java, nor change any options inside the Java Control Panel. I make changes, click OK or Apply, open it back up and find they are all unchanged. This is on Vista Home Premium, SP2, Administrator account. No where in the process is elevation requested, the UAC is on however. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this?

Thanks Assaf, while the run as admin does not show up in the Control Panel I did manage to setup a shortcut with target: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xbootclasspath/a:"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\..\lib\deploy.jar" -Duser.home="C:\Users\*user*" com.sun.deploy.panel.ControlPanel that starts in: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin" which enabled me to access the run as administrator and that did change the setting correctly. Phew, thanks for the idea!

Disable updates of deleted apps

How do I disable updates on deleted, inappropriate apps (17+) downloaded by my kid? He deleted them but they come back in updates. I understand they can't come off history but how can we get rid of them for good?

I was under the impression that ALL the apps you have acquired will show up in the Purchased list on the iPad's App Store, free or not. Just checked in the iPad and all 602 apps I have entitlement to, all free but one, show up there. Most are not on the device and a few I have not used in ages. This is the same list that appears on a computer's iTunes program, when logged into the corresponding AppleID and in the Library / Apps / All pane. Might need to do a Show Sidebar in the View menu if the Library item is not immediately visible
Beware, however, that items on that list can be hidden so a crafty kid may use the feature to keep the parents in the dark. Hiding can only be currently done via iTunes on a computer, not on the iPad. See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919

Disable updating of the menu widget when working with Muse file?

First of all thank you Adobe for creating Muse - I really like it a lot!
My question:
when I work on my website with 250+ pages, it strains the performance to make even the slightest changes to the page structure. I work with two Masters each with much the same horisontal menu widget.
Adding, deleting and rearranging pages makes the PC (Windows 7 laptop of some but not awesome power) make a halt and take a deep breathe for some seconds. It really interupts the flow of working.
A crude work around for this is to removing the menu widget in the two masters and put it into a new master page, containing only the copied menu from the two other masters and keeping the rest of the header in place on the original masters to use for aligning on the pages. This way, only one page has to update when working with adding, deleting and rearranging pages.
I have tried to look for a preference to disable updating the Menu widget when working on the page structures and just enable it the update again when the work is done? does it exist? else I would recommend it strongly :-) Since my work around is a bit tricky/risky to use after publishing ;-)
Again, thanks a lot for this nice program. Being a selftought CS (now CCC) user I like the ease of control of the webdesign you can get with Muse (at the dispence of other features of course - if you ever wanted to add some sort of database-lookup feature it would be MUCH appreciated. One workaround is to use iframe and an external search/lookup page, that returns results with links back to parent pages. A bit funny construction though :-) ).

It can be very processor intensive if you have multiple Master pages with their own All Pages menu widget. Take a look at the following threads and refer to Zak's response.

See if you are able to use just one All Pages menu widget at your site while taking advantage of the hierarchical Master page feature.

Please let us disable update prompts

Forgive me for my frustrated tone (or don't)...
I'm getting so tired of this **bleep**. Why on earth isn't there an option to disable update prompts? Every single time I start up skype I get an update pop-up. Twice. I've searched for solutions, but none of them worked for me. This should just be an option within the client itself, even if hidden under an "advanced" tab to stay in line with how dumb you assume your users are. Possibly the most mind boggling part is how other people on the exact same version don't seem to get any update prompts, nor do I get them on my laptop.
I just do not want your **bleep** update. Why are you trying to force it down my throat? I'm all for security updates but I'm not on board with following the trend of catering your UI to four year olds. I like an interface that's clean and clear and doesn't try so hard to look "hip". The least you could do is add options to use the old interface/disable new """features""".
P.S. While you're at it, stop automatically capitalizing brand names like "Always" in my sentences. And stop making my asterisks bold **bleep**, they already have a different purpose... *sigh*

Make sure you go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Skype Updater -> set to DISABLED

and add 127.0.0.1 download.skype.com to your host file if you want to go for certain.
Also worth noting that C:\users\youruser\appdata\roaming\skype\shared.xml -> go to <EnableWiki> and turn 1 to 0 to disable the **~~__@@!! thing.

Adobe Reader X: Automatic update issue when after "FeatureLockDown set to disable Updater"

Background:
Have product installed on user PC "ProductName: Adobe Reader X (10.1.4) MUI", in way disabled the automatic updates under FeatureLockDown set to disable Updater. However, user still getting prompting updates message to invoking and install the updates, this NOT been expected as per our requirement.
Analysis points:
1.ARM Service is running as automatic mode
2.AdobeARM.log shows
Adobe ARM 1.6.5.0 logging started.
Command Line:
ProductCode: {AC76BA86-7AD7-FFFF-7B44-AA0000000001}
ProductName: Adobe Reader X (10.1.4) MUI
ProductVersion: 10.1.4
ProductUACPatching: disabled
Admin User, IsElevated returns 1
FeatureLockDown set to disable Updater.
Error Code: 100100[2012-11-16 12:33:12] Automatic updates preference is off - returning 0
Error Code: 120200[2012-11-16 12:33:12] ARM returns ERROR_SUCCESS
Adobe ARM 1.6.5.0 logging finished.
Distribution log:
“Automatic preferences not provided with command line and not found in registry – using default ARM preferences AUTO_DOWNLOAD”
Moreover, this update is experiencing repeatedly.
Need root cause and please suggest solution ?

Solved it!
1-go to "edit", select Preferences.
2-select from the left pane: Security (enhanced)
3-click on "add folder path" button just below the big white box
4-pick a folder of your choice and click "ok". (your selected folder path will appear in that white box above the "add folder path" button in step 3)
5-if you want to add additional folders, just repeat steps 3 & 4
6-once you are done, click "ok" on the preferences screen and click "ok" again to accept the changes.
Yes, it seems illogical, but it worked.
I tested by closing the Reader (X), then surfed the web and did what Neher5 was explaining he/she wanted to do just after opening a pdf from a website and lo-and-behold, it worked!. No more "save to temp folder" issues.

Unless you have the mac app store version, Editor>Help>Updates should get you all the available updates.

ACR 6.6 update for PSE 9

I have PSE 9.0.3 with ACR 6.5.0.216 but I am looking to buy one of the cameras newly supported by ACR 6.6. From the Adobe readme, the ACR 6.6 is also for PSE 9.
I tried the update in PSE and it informed me there were no updates available. However, from the Adobe site, ACR 6.6 was also for PSE 9. I followed the instructions for manual installation and downloaded the zip file (for Windows - have Win 7 Pro fully updated).
The installer told me that "update not applicable".
Simple question:
Is the new version of ACR (6.6) available for PSE 9 or not?

As you appear to have found out, Adobe does provide everyone a (less convenient/integrated) free solution to allow you to continue to use your older software with newer cameras, via the DNG Converter application, the latest version of which you can freely download.
For what it's worth, I always buy the upgrades to the latest versions of Photoshop, but I once thought as you do - before I discovered Adobe's free DNG solution.

How do I install raw update in PSE 10?

I have PSE10 and Win 8.1 and want to try editing raw files. I have tried to install both
Camera Raw 6.6 update for Elements 10 and
Camera Raw 6.5 update for Elements 10
but the install fails with the following error message

Installation failed. Error Code: U44M2P7
How can I solve this?

If in the pse 10 editor you go to Help>About Plug-In and click on the words Camera Raw, which version does it say?
The latest camera raw update for pse 10 is 6.7, so try this installer for camera raw 6.7

I just updated from pse 6 to pse8. When I "converted" the catalog it seemd to go quite quickly which tells me it only converts the catalog but uses the previous picture files (I have a zillion.) is that correct? it seems to be working fine.
also, it put the catalog on my C drive and I have my pictures on an external drive. Is that OK?

Yes, that sounds right. The catalog only contains links to your photos, not the actual photos themselves. So when you convert a catalog from an old version of PSE to a new one, the conversion goes pretty quickly. Keeping the catalog in the default location on the C drive is fine (and will generally give the fastest performance).
