Disable USB power when laptops off (CX61 20D)

Is there a way to fully disable usb power when the laptops off? Its annoying because my mouse has blue lights which are quite bright, i have a unlocked BIOS on the latest version.

For now I run
sudo systemctl disable laptop-mode.service
and changed in /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_TOOLS=0
After rebooting I still have the same issues. Also, even after disabling laptop-mode-tools, the brightness changes after unplugging the laptop, so either the laptop mode wasn't disabled at all, or there is something else 'helping' me with powersaving.
@brebs
Thank you, but it looks for me more like a workaround than a solution. It could work, but it doesn't tell me what disables my mouse and where is the root of the problem.

  • No USB Power when PC off

    Hi,
I bought a MSI Z77a-g45 some weeks ago and I can't figure how to charge my devices when my computer is off (razer mamba).
I just installed super-charger but it doesn't seem to work for this.
I might have changed some bios settings trying to pursue my goal.
Could I have some help please ?
    Thanks !
NB: I'm not a native english speaker :/

So you are telling me that none of the USB ports in the back of the case allow me to charge my mouse when the computer is off ?
I would be surprised :s seems like a poor design, very disapointed.
(Checked on the manual, nothing :s, also the manual does not talk about the "gaming" usb ports which I figured out on the web page).

  • My ibook loses battery power when turned off and unplugged

I have been puzzled by this since November 2006. I calibrated my battery twice as prescribed and still, as soon as i shut down my ibook and unplug it, it's battery charge goes down. Why is this? I'd greatly appreciate help. I'm a former pc user and none of my pc laptops have this problem. I just want to know why my battery loss power when unplugged and turned off. thanks in advance

Well you might want to try what they call "battery reconditioning" which is 7 simple steps listed below:
    1: Charge your iPod fully.
2: Use it till you cant trun it on anymore!
3: Then carge your iPod fully again.
4: Then Use it till you cant trun it on anymore!
5: One more time charge your iPod fully.
6: And then again Use it till you cant trun it on anymore!
7: Then one last time charge it fully again.
Reminder: it is best to let the battery die all of the way each time inbetween chages. for example if it has 60% battery life dont charge it use it till it is dead and then charge it up all the way!
*This should inturn maximise your battey life also!*

  • Why is my ipad still using battery power when switched off & locked away with no one using it?

Why is my IPad still discharging battery when switched off and locked away - with no one using it?  Charged it to 100% on holiday and locked in safe.  2 days later it was at 76%!

How is it "switched off"? Are you pressing the button on the top so the screen goes black? If so, that isn't shut off, but put to sleep. I will still be doing things in the background and using battery power.
To shut it fully off, press and hold the button on top, you will get a notification on the screen that says "Slide to power off". Slide the button and it will turn completly off.
If this is how you switched it off, let us know and we will see what else we can figure out.

  • Zen Micro lose Power when Switched OFF??

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem as me. I fully charged my Zen Micro last night and then left it and just switch it on for the first time now (8 hours later), and the battery indicator shows 2 bars left?
Seems like the Zen Micro loses power even when switched off!?!
Can anyone confirm that this is the case and whether I can do anything to stop it from happening? Is this normal with Hard Dri've MP3 player or only with the Zen Micro?
    Thanks.

<EDIT: (April st, 2005):<<FONT color=#330000>JazzMC has taken the initiati've and written a sort of FAQ and put together a website with all the information to date gathered in one place regarding this power drain of the Zen Micro while off (in standby). It's a great read for those who want more information about the subject and probably easier than wading through this thread.<FONT color=#330000>You can view the document by clicking here: <Zen Micro Power Loss<. <FONT color=#330000>Thanks JazzMC!
Ditto here. I did do a disk cleanup last week and the micro seems to be holding it's charge longer now. It's still draining the battery while sitting idle though according to the bar indicator, but slower (go figure?). This is my only real issue with the Zen Micro as I love it otherwise!
One wierd thing I noticed was I charged it full then left it sit for about 3 days (checking it off and on) then on day 3 it was at one bar. So I plugged it into my home sterio and turned it on to see how long it would play for. I was really surprised to see it last a few minutes shy of 9 hours...
Could this be a battery calibration thing instead of it just loosing charge? Like the meter misreads the batteries actual charge over time instead of it loosing power?
Donno it's wacky, please fix Creative!

  • Ipod uses power when yurned off and hold button

i hav 1st gen ipod nano, the ipod seems to hold a charge when on, yet if i turn it off and put the hold button on it uses power while off, also when i flick the hold button off the i pod turns straight back on and starts playing. Its out of warranty and ive reset it and restored it to factory settings any idea!!!!

and also it takes only a couple of hours for pwer to
    drain when its off
Do you have any clock functions set (alarms, stop watch, timer) or calendar events? These can use up power... Restoring it might be a good idea after you first reset it:
Toggle hold switch, press and hold Menu and Select (center) buttons for at least 6 seconds.

  • USB 3.0 Port powered even when laptop off.

    I have a HP Envy 15 with USB 3.0.
When my laptop is off the USB ports still provide power.
I use a USB powered laptop cooler which continues to run its fans even after the Laptop is shutdown/powered off.
I also have a USB external Keyboard and Mouse.  It, the USB connecting device displays its LEDs even after the Laptop it is connected to is powered off.
My previous laptop didn't do this.
Is there some way to fix this?
    Thanks.

I bought the HP 17 1011NR Model on July 11 2010.Attached is the e-mail I send to HP customer service representative .The Answer i was given is that this issue is the design of all HP ENVY laptop and they will forward this issues to the their supervisor who will in turn send it to HP technical team to see if this can be fixed by a patch .I am guessing it can be handled with the patch in BIOS hope they will follow up on it.
Scrap from E-mail send to HP customer service:
After shutting down the Laptop all the 4 USB ports are powered, meaning they behave like a powered USB port. This is causing issue as I use all of my USB ports, to which I have connected Docking Station, TV Tuner, Laptop Cooling Pad etc. They are not shutting down as the USB is still powered after shut down. This is wearing down the Docking Station, Laptop Cooling Pad, TV tuner as they keep running until I remove them from the USB ports or remove the power adapter. This is becoming an irritation as every night I have go thru this exercise of unplugging the gadgets connected to USB port. I am using this as a desktop replacement and I have not seen a behavior like this in other HP laptops that I have.
Please fix this or let me know how to power down the USB port after Shutdown (Like BIOS setting or WINDOWS7 Settings) or update your tech specs in HP Website to details that all the 4 USB ports are powered ports.

  • Script to disable USB 'Power Management'?

I'd like to have the capability to have the "Allow the computer to switch off the USB port to conserve power' box unchecked. Instead of manually going to each PC, it would be great if I could run a script. Anybody out there know how to
do this? Any help is gratefully appreciated.

  • K9A platinum and USB power.

So, This Christmas I decided to give my HTPC a M-play 202 plus as a little nice extra feature.
It is a Display module with IR-receiver and remote, and it has the nice feature of Remote power-on. This of course achieved by routing the power-switch cable through it.
But, this of course requires that the M-play 202 has operating power in itself, through USB.
Now, I have 10 computers at home, including a few other MSI-boards, and while some of them do not by default provide USB-power when switched off, all of them either have BIOS-settings or a Motherboard jumperswitch for this. The K9A platinum has neither. The other motherboards that does not show settings for this all have power on USB as default.
So, What am I missing? Where is my USB-power when the computer are switched off?
I can solve this by changing the M-play 202 plus USB-cable from internal type to an external and simply route it through an powered USB2 hub. But this is a very ugly solution.
Anyway, just writing this in hopes that there is something obvious I am missing here that will solve this.
    Best Regards

  • USB power after system shutdown. How?

    Hi there.
    I have z87 Mpower Max.
My question is how to make system provide power to all USB ports after shutdown?
I read similar topic of enabling USB wake up on S3, it work but sometimes when I plug my Android phone to charge, my PC turns on.  not always but sometimes.
If I disabled the USB wake up, no power to the ports.
I had built Asus, Gigabyte , Asrock, from 2008 they all had this feature "ring on power" on bios to enable/disable USB power. Even with the cheapest models 75$
Did MSI miss this? That would be so lame.
    Note:
    I don't want 2 ports only.
I'm talking about shut down not sleep.
    Thank you.

    Quote from: JLio01 on 12-December-14, 10:53:47
If you want to charge after shutdown without any risk of waking up the system, there's a red USB connector allows USB charging under S5 mode.
Wake up event resume from USB enables your USB to wake the system up, so the system might be waken up, it's NORMAL. I tried on my X99 mobo by enabling USB wake up and all the rear USB ports(I don't use front ones) are chargeable for my android phone, and no system turning on from S5 by charging my phone so far.
    Thanks JLio01
I did and my system woke up
Missed with bios setting, couldn't get it to work.
So now when my system turns on after plugging my phone I press power button to shut it down at post.
This is really embarrassing and lame from MSI, the first MB in 8 years that lack this important feature.
Do you think I can contact MSI support to tell them to include this on next bios?
I know it's possible with the MB, but not sure if they will care.

  • Disable USB Drives GPO

    Hello,
I have a GPO set and linked to my AD domain to disable USB drives when they connect. The policy has the following settings enabled.
    Removable Disks: Deny read access
    Removable Disks: Deny write access
    WPD Devices: Deny read access
    WPD Devices: Deny write access
However, when I test users are always able to connect and use the USB drives. Is there anything else that needs to be configured before the policy works correctly?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
You may have a check if the group policy got applied or not just as aperelli just indicated above.
Also you could try to configure your group policy setting like below:
    >>navigate to
    \Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Removable Storage Access.
    >>enable the below setting:
All Removable Storage Classes: Deny All Access.
    >>In the Command Prompt, type GPupdate /force
This setting is a effective way to diasble the removable storage access.
    Best Regards,
    Elaine

  • IPod Nano (4th Generation) switches on when connected to USB power - shows Menu & hangs (unresponsive to click wheel) - deems off after 5-sec - Switches off after disconnecting from USB Power - syncs with iTunes - Tried 5R's - Problem still persists

    1. The iPod Nano (4th Generation - 8GB) switches on, only when connected to USB power by showing apple logo and displays Menu options thereafter..
    2. However, I can not access Menu as it is unresponsive to click wheel. As a result it is inaccessible to any further use,
    3. NOTE: it displays "Battery Fully charged" icon on the screen without any "Lock" icon.
    4. After  5-sec to 10-secs the screen deems off.. i.e. goes to sleep mode.. And thereafter would probably remain like that (sleeeping) for eternity!!!!
    5. It Switches off after WITHOUT DISPLAYING any Apple Logo immediately after disconnecting from USB Power.
    6. In other words, it can be switched on only through USB power in spite of battery being fully charged.
    7. Interestingly, it syncs with iTunes. It is recognised in iTunes (Latest version 11+).. Displays on screen all commands Like.. syncronising, connecting, connected,
    8. Allows to add Music, videos like a normal ipod & displays all status information in iTunes.
    9. Read Trobleshooting & Tried all 5R's. Registered, Resetted, updated & Restored to iOS 1.0.2
    10. It is now displaying to select Language in place of Menu options, with no access through click wheel, centre button whatsoever... Problem still persists
KINDLY GUIDE ME THE SOLUTION. APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE in advance...

"I get the feeling that this is a software issue that could probably be solved quite easily"
