Disable Versioning

Doesn't seem to be a way to disable Versioning except at install. (also manually every time you upload an asset) I hope I am wrong because I sure would like to have control of everything without having to reformat my system drive just to uninstall Final Cut Server and reinstall again.

Actually, depending on what you mean by disabling versioning, there's several things you can do.
1) When uploading assets, there's a Versioning pane with a checkbox for disabling versioning
2) When Checking FCP projects back in there's a Versioning pane with a "Store and track versions of this asset" checkbox
3) When uploading an FCP projects and individual assets, you can turn Versioning on for projects and off for assets, which is what I do
Does this help at all?

  • How to disable Versions for network shares?

AFP share points with network shares works great, but Versions will lock a file that one user saves, and wont allow another user to overwrite the file because of it. Is there a way to disable Versions for networked files?

Or perhaps even just disable file locking? Lion Server will work great for my organization, but only if I can allow more than one person open and save a file!

  • Is it possible to disable "VERSIONS"?

i actually don`t like this feature. So is it possible to disable VERSIONS?

This is so simple. Just don't use an app that supports Versions. Right now that means use any Word Processor except  TextEdit and Pages. Any Spreadsheet except Numbers. (See a pattern?) That's it. That's all. Other apps don't access the feature so use one of those.
The amount of space required for the feature is minute. It doesn't save the whole document, just records the changes in database. So there is no storage hog even for so-called "power users" (whatever they are)
As for the person who is  - do I understand this correctly - afraid they'll forget to save on Window because they don't have to save on macs? Really? This is a reason? How about you just continue to save on th Mac like you've always done. Make no difference.
How adding an auto-save feature to the OS constitutes "dumbing down" is beyond me.
So, to be clear: this feature is available in the OS for apps that choose to implement it. Apple have chosen to implement it for their Apps. No reason to assume that MS or Adobe or Whoever will implement it, but if they do then write to them and ask them to make it optional.
Or, just be rational about it.

  • Disable versionning

    Hi,
Even if versionning is a mandatory feature in a DAM like CQ5, is it possible to disable it when editing the assets Metadata.
When submiting the new metadatas, it could be cool to have 2 options : "update with versionning" and "update without"
Or, if not possible, is there a workflow or an action for "purging" asset's versions ?
    Many thanks
    Jean-Michel

Couple of comments of both of these problems.
First of all, disableversioning works by creating a log of sql statements to execute and after creating all of the needed statements will then execute them one by one.
The ORA-00942 error usually indicates that disableversioning has started to execute the sql log that it created. When it tries to drop a view that no longer exists, it will fail with this error. You would be able to query all_wm_vt_errors to see exactly which step it is failing at. If this view returns a row, you can call disableversioning with ignore_last_error=>true until it completes. It may require calling it multiple times dependent on the number of objects that were already dropped, but it will eventually succeed.
The ORA-01403 would normally only occur during the process of creating the sql log. If this is the case then the ignore_last_error parameter will have no effect since there is no current sql statement to skip. Also, recreating the views would have no effect in this case. Typically this error will occur when we try to get the details about an index that no longer exists. So, you would need to recreate the base LT table and any primary key or unique constraints along with the associated index.  You should be able to view this information in the allwm_constraints view. If you are on a recent version of Workspace Manager and you no longer need the schema you can simply issue a drop user command and recreate the schema as needed.

  • Is there a way to disable "versions?"

The "versions" feature in OS X 10.7 on my Macbook Air is not really ideal and would prefer to go back to "Save As..." Is there a simple way to disable this "versions" feature?
    Thank you!!!!

If you don't want autosave you can copy & paste this command into Terminal at the prompt...
defaults write -g ApplePersistence -bool no
    Press return
    Now reboot.
Should you want it again, the reverse would be "yes".
"Save As" may or may not be in the menu if you hold the option key. I'm on a different OS version right now.

  • Disable versionning problem

I'm playing right now in a schema with the workspace manager. In order to gather some timing of some sql before and after the versionnign of some tables, I asked
Yesterday I asked to have the my schema wipe and restore with the original version. The DBA did a drop user and then import the data back (import fromuser).
This morning, I tried to do my versionning and it failed saying that the table was already in this mode. I tried to disable the versionning and it failed also. I think I have a sync problem now between my wmsys schema and the schema with my table.

  • I want to disable versions and autosave

This is simply idiotic. Is there ANY way to disable this?
I dont like at all the feature, but maybe i could live with it if i were not loosing files. I'm glad i noticed it only after a day of work. they give an option to disable this or i im giving my mac to my wife.
Also, i dont know who the **** designed this feature, but not everyone working on a file wants to save it, i need to touch a lot of files in a day, sometimes just to get to something i can copy and paste in my final document, if i have to bother about wich "version" was the good one and wich one is not... its like i now have twice the work.
This is not making my experience simpler, its complicating my work to the max.
On top of that, versions and autosave does not work as it is supposed over network (my work is on a RAID NAS, not on my ssd), but it tries to save the file every fu**ing time. I do a lot of copy/cut/paste from files i just dont want to save, and today i had to look for 4 files into my backup just to recover them. That means Lion make me loose information. Something a reliable OS should not be doing nowadays.

    Jiminez, you're one of many.
I have my own list of 30 reasons why Lion s***s. Until they're all fixed I'm staying with Snow Leopard, although I fear Apple has gone down the toilet with Lion and no-one is willing to put a hand down there and fish it out.
Autosave is one of them, and Versions is another.
Another, uh, feature you haven't found yet is that all your files will be automatically locked after a certain number of days. Don't ask me why. But it's a royal PITA. The Apple fanboys think it's absolutely fantastic.
I feel sorry for your wife. Don't do this to her. You might L-O-S-E her.

  • How to disable Versions completely

    Hi there
I work with extremely large files so the Versions features actually slows everthing down and I have to wait often for it to finnish saving the file.
How can I disable this feature on the OS.
The application that I have the most issues with is Omnigraffle and the app itself does not have an setting to disable the feature so I need to disable it on the OS
    Thanks
    C

You are missing the point here. Apple have added something which is, to anybody except a computer novice, counter-intuitive. I've seen reviews comparing this to VMS's file versioning system. Fair enough, but even VMS let you decide for yourself when to save a file.
I can and will concede that in the long term this might be the way to go.
The problem today is that Apple are asking 75%+ of their existing user base to unlearn a deeply entrenched notion - "save your file!" - but have singularly failed to understand that the fact that files do not save themselves without permission has become a working assumption and part of the way I and many other people work.
I'm not against progress (or I'd still be using my ZX81) but Apple must understand that they are making changes that fundamentally affect the way I work and my productivity. Please give me an option to turn this off.
And yes, I've already posted my feedback to Apple.

  • Privileges needs for EnableVersioning/Disable Versioning

    Hi ..
Does anyone know which privileges a users needs to have to able to successfully execute dbms._wm.EnableVersioning and dbms_wm.DisableVersioning ?
I have the wm_admin_role granted to this user , and the user has resource as well. Create Table and Create Sequence has also been explicitly granted. Cannot do enableversioning or disableversioning successfully though.
    Thanks
    Pierre

    Hi Pierre,
What errors are you getting when you execute dbms_wm.EnableVersioning and dbms_wm.DisableVersioning? After the error occurs if you query the all_wm_vt_errors view, that would tell you exactly which statements are failing.
This information should allow me to tell you exactly which privileges are missing, if that is the source of the error. Also, what version of the database and Workspace manager are you using?

  • Possible to Disable Version Support?

I am aware that Designer warns that version support cannot be reversed when Options > Enable Version Support is selected in the Repository Administration Utility, but I have been asked to do just that. Here are the steps I performed:
    1. Exported the entire workarea (we only have 1) from the production repository using the option to only export versions visible in a resolved view.
    2. Exported user extensions from the production repository.
    3. Dropped and rebuilt the development repository -- without enabling version support.
    4. Loaded the exported user extensions into the development repository.
    5. Imported the exported workarea into the development repository.
At this point Designer displayed an error message stating that the import file contained multiple or checked-out versions and that import into a non-versioned repository is not supported. This message gave me hope because it is easy enough to eliminate multiple and checked-out versions, so I then performed these steps:
    1. Dropped and rebuilt the development repository -- this time I did enable version support.
    2. Loaded the exported user extensions into the development repository.
    3. Imported the exported workarea into the development repository.
    4. Checked-in all checked-out and unversioned objects in the development repository.
    5. Exported the entire workarea from the development repository using the option to only export versions visible in a resolved view
    6. Dropped and rebuilt the development repository -- without enabling version support.
    7. Loaded the exported user extensions into the development repository.
    8. Imported the exported workarea into the development repository.
At this point Designer displayed the same error message stating that the import file contained multiple or checked-out versions and that import into a non-versioned repository is not supported. Based upon my checking in all checked-out and unversioned objects I don't think the import file really contains multiple or checked-out versions, so I am wondering if the import file is simply incompatible with an unversioned repository because it was taken from a versioned repository.
Any help with undoing version support in a versioned repository would be greatly appreciated.

When they say it is a one-way path that is exacly what they mean.
the only way you can get to non version is in the RON you "export data to a text file"
This is not non versioned when you import into a new repository. However, this path gives you several other problems.

  • TUTORIAL: Disable Auto Save, Versions and bring back Save As

    1. Quit the app(s) you want to configure.
    2. Launch Terminal.
    3. Paste the command below in the Terminal window, then replace 'name of app' with the name of whatever app you want to configure (e.g. 'textedit'), before hitting Enter:
defaults write -app 'name of app' ApplePersistence -bool no
Alternatively, you can configure all apps at once with the following command:
defaults write -g ApplePersistence -bool no
I don't recommend doing this, though, because, for some reason, it slows down the login process considerably.
For TextEdit only, you also need to run another command, as a workaround for errors that prevents it from functioning correctly:
defaults write -app textedit AutosavingDelay -int 0
    4. Relaunch the app(s).
    5. Enjoy you considerably less infuriating Mac!
If you don't see any changes, a relogin will in most cases do the trick (if not, the app probably uses a non-standard saving mechanism).
Please note: Although this brings back Save As in most apps, this is sadly not the case with Preview and iWork.
To undo any of the above commands, run:
defaults delete -app 'name of app' ApplePersistence
    defaults delete -g ApplePersistence
    defaults delete -app textedit AutosavingDelay
P.S. If you want to remove data already stored by Versions, you need to delete the hidden .DocumentRevisions-V100 folder in the root directory of your disk(s).

    Why?
Because the "Ask to keep changes when closing documents" setting doesn't actually turn off Auto Save and can cause loss of data.
Because the Save As "feature" in Mountain Lion, isn't actually the traditional Save As that OS X had prior to Lion, but a useless, mock version that is likely to cause data loss.
Because Apple still refuses to offer any way of disabling Versions.

  • I made a mistake & loaded the version of Firefox (4) that my computer cannot support. Now I am unable to use it. How can I replace it with the latest one I had previously (3.6.20)?

It's my own fault. I was warned that my old iMac (running only on Tiger) was not capable of receiving Firefox 4. But I did an experiment and tried loading it anyway.
Now, a disabled version of Firefox, that I cannot open, is the only version of Firefox on my computer. I'm sure it made everything I was using on Firefox disappear!
Is there some way to replace this disabled version with the latest one I CAN support?

Downgrading from Firefox 4 to Firefox 3.6.20
    1. Visit ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.20/mac/
    2. Find your language and Open Firefox 3.6.20 folder
    3. Download and install Firefox setup file (3.6.20 dmg)
You’ll be automatically downgraded to Firefox 3.6.20 and your favorite add-ons, bookmarks and settings will remain untouched.
    thank you

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes on File Open (related to Version Cue)

    Hi all,
I found some threads on PS crashing on file opening, but none of these were describing my issue, nor were the suggested fixes working.
    Here is what happens:
PS opens fine. I can open a file in PS if I open it from Bridge (or Explorer). If I select 'File > Open' in the PS menu however, the open file dialog attempts to open, but hangs and that's it. I can not escape out of it, and if I click close in the system tray it says PS is 'Not Responding' and sends an error message to Microsoft.
    This is what fixes it:
In 'preferences' - if I disable Version Cue, Photoshop works perfectly again. Only thing is, I need to use Version Cue!
Anybody else have this issue? Any ideas for fixes???
    Thanks all,
    Anne

Memory address issues can be tough to track down. Often, they will occur when a program either mis-reports the memory addresses used, or tells the OS that it has released them, when it has not.
Though written with video editing in mind, there still might be some tips for setting up your computer, in this ARTICLE. If you have Win7, please look down-thread for Black Viper's tuning page.
Now, Adobe programs have always been great at reporting their memory usage, but it could still happen - I've just never encountered it over the decades.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

The system appears to think that the dispatcher process may already be running. Stop all the SAP processes and run cleanipc to clear out the shared memory. I've seen this on AIX before where the shared memory will prevent SAP from starting back up and clearing these resolved the issue.
    Hope that is helpful.
