Disable warning dialogs for external links in PDF?

Greetings. I'm at the final stages of an interactive PDF and during the review cycle, the client is noticing warning boxes each time they open a link to an external web address. I'm fairly sure that if you are using a purchased Acrobat instead of the free reader, you have the option on the first external link to allow access for all links. But, if you are using the free reader, every time you activate a different external link, you must "allow" it to open (is this true?). Those messages are annoying the client (in spite of the wisdom of the security). Is there anything I can do on the creation side to disable those warnings?
The document is being created using InDesign CS6 in OSX-10.9.5.
Thanks!
Tim

The warnings can be disabled by configuring their security user preferences, which are the same in Acrobat and Reader. In Reader 11, look at:
Edit > Preferences > Trust Manager > Internet Access from PDF Files outside the web browser > Change Settings

  • Is there a limit for external links in TOC using RoboHelp 9.2?

    Hi,
This is my first time posting to the Adobe forums. Here is my problem.
I have been maintaining help projects using RoboHelp 9.2 for quite some time now to generate WebHelp. I now have four large projects that are linked through a URL in each project's TOC.  Example: I have projects A B C D. In A's TOC, I include a link to B C D default topics. In B's TOC, I include a link to A C D default topics. And so on ... The fourth project (D) is new.
The problem I've encountered is with the image appearing in the TOC next to the external link entry for project D in the generated WebHelp.  The image showing up for project D is different from the other two, even though the properties for that page are exactly the same as the other two.  This happens in all three remaining projects (A B C). Even when I change the image (from the image index), the same image (i.e. the standard image for a topic page) appears regardless.
What should appear in all cases is image 13.gif.
(I'll have to figure out later why 19.gif is selected in the properties dialog, whereas 13.gif is actually showing up in WebHelp. Doh.)
    Any ideas?
    thanks,

1-Time machine seems to be coming up often in the discussions. If my backup is on my external hard drive, why would space be taken up on my macbook hard drive?
Read the first extract for the definition of backup snapshots and how they are handled by the OS.
2-Shoud I delete older backups? If for example, all I need from Time Machine is the latest backup done today, can I get rid of the 2+ yeras of backups, or do they not take up that much space?
No.  Time Machine should be on a separate HDD and will take care of deleting backups when necessary on that drive.
3-Back to the issue, considering I don't have access to a an apple store for the next few months, what is my best plan of action?
I would consider installing a larger internal HDD.  Capacities to 1 TB are now available.
4-I am considering buying a new macbook 15inch, and get more space, however, I'm scared that the same problem will happen again. Is this common on all macs? Will using Time Machine to "Restore" my backups bring along the issues as well?
All Macs using Time Machine will experience the same conditions.  The problem is that many users do not under stand what 'Other' is and that leads to confusion.  There are many essential OS files in that category that should not be touched as well as some user files.  The issue is not to reduce 'Other' as such, but reduce the total amount of data on the HDD if space is becoming a premium.

I'm still the meaning that's an issue of adobe.
Looking at adobe forum you can find the question
4.4-- How do I spawn a new Browser window from inside a PDF file using a link?
    with the answer
For Acrobat 7 there is the new javascript method "app.launchURL('mywebsite.com')" which will open a new browser window (not necessarily your default browser but IE on Windows OS).
To make your PDF backwards compatible you can use the following JS
    var v = app.viewerVersion;
    if(v<7){ getURL("javascript:void(window.open('http://www.mywebsite.com'))"); } else{ app.launchURL("http://www.mywebsite.com"); }

  • Invoke External Link on a Dialog Window

What's the easiest way of invoking an external link (ex: http://www.google.com) in a modal Dialog window. I want to achieve something like the select input text component, but for external links that in our case will be external applications.
Do I need to create a dummy .jspx/.jsp for each external link ?
    Thanks,
    Claudio.

    Thanks for the reply.
The main page is made up of multiple inputText boxes that we want to popluate based on the row we select. Is it possible to populate inputTexts from the table? Or do we need another ADF table like your example shows?
    Thanks

  • Can I disable trash for external drives?

    Hello,
Is it possible to disable the Trash for external drives so that files from external drives are completey deleted automatically, or else moved to the trash on my internal hard drive? The problem that I am trying to solve is, for example, when I download pictures from my camera, if I want to make more space available on the camera, I have to first delete the pictures from the camera, and then empty my trash, since deleting the pictures from the camera only moves them to a hidden folder called ".Trash". I would prefer if I didn't have to empty the trash every time I wanted to free up room on my camera external hard drive.
    Thanks very much,
    Adrian

It isn't without its risks, but another option may be to ⌘-drag the files to the hard drive, which will simulate a "move" by copying the files to the hard drive then deleting them from the external. If something goes wrong during the transfer, it may be difficult in some situations to determine which files were being copied at the time - ie. which ones were potentially corrupted. It might be ok as a cleanup procedure after the files have been imported normally, but then you end up sitting through the process of copying them to the hard drive a second time - you might as well just toss them in the "Trash". Also, if a large number of files is involved, just don't accidentally drop them on the "Desktop" because the "Finder" can't handle it. Obviously, I'm not a fan of the method, but it's there as an option...

  • CHM crashes when you click on links to PDFs/word on IE9 only

    Here's the situation:
CHM file is created with a few links to baggage objects, which are PDF files. I have links in both topics and direct from the TOC.
On PCs with Internet Explorer 8 or less installed, users are able to click these links and the PDF file opens.
On PCs with Internet Explorer 9 installed, the CHM file crashes (and worse still, takes the application the help was launched from with it).
The error message is: Microsoft HTML Help Executable has stopped working [Close Program].
I have tried creating a small project with links to PDFs, and word docs, both as baggage files and just external links, and the same thing happens. I have tested on multiple PCs (even a Vista PC that was OK when it had IE8 and not OK when I upgraded it to IE). I am running the CHMs off my PC, not off network drives.
Has anyone else seen this? I would have thought other people would have noticed this if it was a generic problem with CHM files and IE9, but I can't see anyone mentioning it in this forum or anywhere else on google. Which makes me think it's something I've done wrong...
One last thing, I output the file as webhelp and the links worked fine.
Thanks in advance to anyone who has a suggestion here.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had tried that and not seen anything unusual on my PC, which is running windows 7.
I've since done the following on a Windows Vista PC, using my test help file with 1 link to a PDF and 1 link to a word doc.
    - PC originally running IE8. Links open without problem.
    - PC upgraded to IE9. Help file crashes when clicking the links.
    - Removed IE9 from PC. Links working again. Ran MJs diagnostics.
    - Upgraded to IE9 again. Links not working. Ran MJs diagnostics.
Diagnostics were identical when IE8 and IE9 were installed on the PC. So I don't think this is going to point out where the problem is. Unless someone can tell me what I'm looking for specifically. All the HTML help settings were correct.
I should also mention I'm on Robohelp 8.0.2.208.
Lastly, I tried setting open in new page for the links to PDFs and word. This time, on IE9, they didn't crash the program, but they came up with a "navigation to the webpage was cancelled" message in IE9. On IE8, the links looked like they were opening, but didn't open at all.
I'd really like to know if anyone else with IE9 has had problems with links to baggage files. If there's anyone with IE9, and perfectly behaving CHM files, I'd love to compare notes - i.e. how do you refer to them. My links just look like this: <p><a href="test.docx">test</a></p>
Is it something I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks!

  • AcrobatActiveXVB SDK Sample - Links in PDF Not working

    Hi,
I am trying to create an application in VS.net (similar to AcrobatActiveXVB SDK Sample) to display PDF files in my application.  PDF file opens fine.  But external links in PDF file are not working.  I trying to display a main index pdf file, which contains external links to 10 other PDF files.  All 10 PDF files are located in my local hard drive (main index pdf file is also located in the same folder).  If I open the main index file in Acrobat Reader then it the links are working fine.  It is not working only when it is opened inside the AcrobatActiveXVB SDK Sample.  Please help.
Please Note: Links are not grayed.  I get the hand mouse pointer, when I mouse over to the links.
    Windows OS - XP SP3
    Acrobat Reader - Tried it with 9.1.3 & 9.3.3.  Un-installed and re-installed multiple times
    Thanks in advance.

hello, the pdf viewer is still somewhat experimental and under very active development - you could try if the same error is occurring in the current development version, which you can download as an addon from http://mozilla.github.io/pdf.js/extensions/firefox/pdf.js.xpi
in case it has the the same rendering problems, you could then file a bug report at https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/issues (a github account is necessary for it though) - please also provide a sample document where the error is apparent!

  • How to Suppress Warning Dialogs in Photoshop CS3

    Hi All,
I am automating photoshop to process image conversion(using python and appscript) and at times photoshop comes up with a "Warning Dialogs" for some images when trying to open. I tried to suppress this warning when opening a PDF file by using the options
PDF_open_options -- Settings related to opening a generic PDF document
    Inherits from:open_options
    Properties:
suppress_warnings boolean -- supress any warnings that may occur during opening
Still Photoshop opens the warning dialogs.I want a solution so that I can manually or programatically(using appscript or python) make photoshop not to show any warning dialogs.

    Yep hade a solution
You are welcome to try this for what its worth. It should do 2 things. First if there is a Photoshop "warning" record the info the dismiss the dialog proceed with file else record the "error" info kicked back to AppleScript but not process this file. This is a far as I got with this and you would be well advised to do some testing of your own. Requires Enable access for assistive devices this is in system prefs.
property Error_Report : (path to desktop folder as Unicode text) & "Problem Image Report.txt"

  • Even though I have LCD font smoothing disabled, Mountain Lion still uses it in PDF views, Safari's location bar, Mail's message view, and the dialogs for mounting encrypted disk images.

Even though I have LCD font smoothing disabled, Mountain Lion still uses it in PDF views, Safari’s location bar, Mail’s message view, and the dialogs for mounting encrypted disk images. Is there any solution to this problem? Also diabled the Smoothing in the SystemPrefs and also via Terminal. Font smoothing is still there. Very annoying, especially in PDF attachments in Apple Mail.

Try feeding Safari a user-defined CSS file with font-smoothing tweaks (including none). The filename and its filesystem location are arbitrary. Use your favorite coding editor.
Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Style Sheet:
Here is an example with all elements uncommented. Pick the one that works best for your Safari viewing and comment out the others:

  • Keep Acrobat from repeatedly warning me about not connecting to external sites thru pdfs

When I use Acrobat XI Pro to create a pdf from an original that has links to the internet (usually ad sites) the resulting pdf is blocked by Acrobat from connecting to a number of sites. That is fine, since I do not want my pdfs to connect to external links unless it is a site that I specifically authorize. The problem is that as I scroll through the pdf Acrobat keeps warning me by presenting a dialog box that says "Acrobat is blocked from connecting to (name of site)". I cannot continue scrolling until I manually close the dialog box. This repeatedly interrupts my scrolling. I would like to not have Acrobat repeatedly warn me about this. Can I block these annoying warnings?

In Acrobat 11 Pro "change settings" has three options, "Allow PDFs to Access All Websites", "Custom Setting" and "Block PDFs' Access to All Websites". Under "Custom Setting" it is true that one can enter specific sites at trusted in that access is allowed. Also, the options for sites not listed as trusted sites are to "Always Ask", "Allow Access" and "Block Access". However, even when I bypass "Always Ask" and choose "Block Access", Acrobat opens a dialog box and notifies me when it blocks access to one of the sites not on the explicitly trusted list. Acrobat does this every time and each time I have to manually close the dialog box to continue scrolling through the pdf.  I may not have made it clear, but I do not want to be notified that Acrobat has blocked access to a site and to have to interrupt what I am trying to do by manually closing the dialog box. If I wanted any notifications I would have chosen "Always Ask".  I hope that my issue is now more clear. Your suggestions are well taken, but do not address the problem. If you have any additional ideas I will be glad to see them and I appreciate your trying to address my question.

  • InDesign CS5 crashes when trying to export a PDF and/or a Warning dialog box appears!

Just bought a new macbook pro 15" non retina the other day and the SAME version of InDesign CS5 that was running on my 2010 iMac is now crashing each time I get a Warning dialog box and/or try exporting a PDF?!??!?! How was this NOT an issue before and now is??? Running the same Lion 10.7.4 as well....
Holding the alt key while deleting a page does help it not prompt the warning dialog box, but no help to exporting a pdf...
So guessing this is a Apple issue and we need an update or??
I am only using Fontbook and have NOT even added any new fonts yet, practically bare bones mac still with just CS5...
What is also weird is that the warning dialog boxes are always BLANK and have no text on them, like there is a font issue??
I've cleared the system font cache, reset InDesign prefs, reset PRAM and NVRAM, re-installed InDesign and updated to 7.0.4...
This is madness....please help me in the name of all that is good.
    Crash:
    http://pastebin.com/DYv0vwNQ

    figured it out:
    - power off mac and turn back on while holding down Command + R (dont do it on an external keyboard just to be safe)
    - choose the re-install Lion option (I'm sure there is another way to re-install Lion, this is just the way I did it, not saying its the best or only method)
    - DO NOT INSTALL MACBOOK (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0 - THIS SCREWS ADOBE UP!

  • External link to location in PDF not working

I can't get an external link to open to a specific place in a PDF.  I have tried the code for named destination and a page number and nothing is working.  I actually found some good documentation on line that should me all the parameters that could be passed, unfortunately, they aren't working.
Here are the ways I have test linking into the PDF:
    http://at3etfsn1.atlanta.ibm.com/crm/sheol/Marketing/MAT_DPP_ExercisesA.pdf#nameddest=LogO ut
    http://at3etfsn1.atlanta.ibm.com/crm/sheol/Marketing/MAT_DPP_ExercisesA.pdf#LogOut

The link is stored on a wiki... but I didn't think that would make a difference.  The PDF was created using Acrobat 9.0 from a Word document.  I have made sure that the document does not have any security.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions that might help me get this to work.
I know this is shocking, but I did actually read the documentation.  LogOut is a bookmark I made with no spaces in the name.  I'm not sure what else to try.  If you have some examples or suggestions please let me know.
    Thanks for your help.
    Take care.

The link was copied from a post I'd made to AUC from back in 2008; so, yes it can/does work.
    I've used PDF Open parameters with MSIE 5, 6, 7, & 8.
During use of any particular MSIE release I always keep it updated as MS rolls out the updates.
Used Adobe Reader 5, 6, 7, 8,  & 9 - each updated as Adobe rolled out the updates.
    Used Acrobat 5 (Full), Pro 6, 7, 8, 8 3D, 9 (Pro Extd).
Again, as updates are rolled out they are applied.
    Just checked again with:
MSIE 6 (fully updated) & Adobe Reader 9.3.2
    MSIE 8 (fully updated) & Acrobat 3D (8.2.2)
MSIE 8 (fully  updated) & Acrobat 9 Pro Extd (9.3.2)
For all, the open parameter performed as expected.
Source PDF's Initial View is page only.
Rendered in browser showing bookmarks and opened to the specified page.
As to MSIE add-ons; this varies with the MSIE release.
IE 6 shows less than IE 8.
Various threads at Acrobat User Community may be informative.
    For keyword search: "open parameters"
    For Author search: "daka630"
    At AUC Forum Search:
    http://www.acrobatusers.com/forums/aucbb/search.php
5th post to this thread has the link I used above as well as some others -
    http://www.acrobatusers.com/forums/aucbb/viewtopic.php?id=15061
n.b., tried the links you provided - nothing appears in the browser - same if I delete # and all subsequent characters after the file extension.
As to "installs" - basically, I run with the out-of-the-box installs; nothing "custom".
One thing that is common to the Adobe Reader/MSIE 6 & the various Acrobat/MSIE8 checks I just did is that for "Documents" in the Preferences the 'Open Setting' of "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" is not ticked.
-- just an end note here, open parameters have been around since at least Acrobat 4.x
    Be well...

  • PDF external links not working

I have succesfully linked to PDF's on my site in the past, but there are now a select few that are coming up as "The requested URL http:// was not found on this server." when clicked on.
I have deleted, resaved and relinked them, even changed their name. But this warning still comes up even after I "put" the page and "put" the document from the folder it is located.
When I test the page through Dreamweaver everything works, but not when I got to the site. I have tried the site in both Safari and Firefox.
    What am I missing??

I had the same problem today with a new computer and new installation of Adobe Acrobat.
I discovered the solution that worked for me. I am not sure where the setting is located in Adobe Acrobat but if you are using Word 2007 this is where I found it.
Open the document you wish to convert in Word
File > Save as > PDF
    Click on the Options button
Tick under PDF options at the bottom - ISO 19005-1 compliant (PDF/A)
    OK
    then click the Publish button
I then uploaded to the web and the links still worked.
I decided to google " ISO 19005-1 compliant (PDF/A)" and am wondering it this might be something to do with the Save As option rather then using the Print option I haven't quite determined if that is the case but I found this article which might explain any questions - http://doknir.blogspot.com/2006/08/word-2007-docx-and-iso-19005-pdfa.html

  • "Preview in Firefox" for pdf web pages but not for file links ?

    Hi,
I like the preview pdf in Firefox feature but I seem to be having a bit of a problem with it.
In options>applications I have the pdf entry set to preview in Firefox and when I click a link to pdf webpages they load in Firefox just fine.
The problem seems to be with download links to pdf files. When I click a link to a pdf file the only options are to save the file, open with my pdf viewer (Foxit Reader) or other. Preview with Firefox is not an option any more.
I've been trying everything to get that option back.
I know I have seen it there before but I've no idea how it disappeared.
    Any suggestions?

The build-in PDF Viewer only works for files that are send as application/pdf and not for other MIME types.<br />
So it won't work for links that open a download dialog and you would need an extension to open such a file as application/pdf.

  • Disable OWA for External Site

    Dear Expert,
I just implemented Exchange Server 2013, I have the request from management team. They already used OWA and Mobile on Internal,
but they would like to disable OWA and enable mobile when user stay outside the office.
    Please advice

    Hi,
Do you mean you want to know how you can block or disable external OWA for exchange users without affecting internal OWA and external ActiveSync for them?
If it is, here are the steps you can use to block all users to access OWA externally.
    1. Create a new website only for ActiveSync service. Ex: (New-WebSite -Name TestSite -Port 80 -HostHeader TestSite -PhysicalPath "$env:systemdrive\inetpub\testsite").
    2. Assign new IP address to that website.
    3. Create ActiveSync virtual directory in the new website Ex: (New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName "TestSite" -ExternalURL http://www.contoso.com/mail -InternalURL http://contoso/mail).
    4. Assign certificate to the new website.
    5. Don’t create OWA and ECP virtual directory in the new website.
    6. On the firewall NAT the public IP address to internal IP address assigned to new website.
    7. Use Default Website for internal outlook web access(Without External URL settings and no public IP address for the default site).
Alternatively, we can keep the default web site for external access of ActiveSync and external OWA disabled. Then create a new Web Site for Internal OWA-ECP using. For more details about this method, please refer to:
