Disabled addons have no "Remove" button - Mac

A couple of addons were disabled after a recent upgrade. Now they have '''no "Remove" button''', even in safe mode, so I can't get rid of them.
I have looked in the '''Library''', both for my own user area and the whole computer - under ''Mozilla'', ''Firefox'', and ''Application Support''. Found an ''Extensions'' folder, but it was empty. Found some other files that mentioned DivX (the offending addons), and deleted some references (the ones I left seemed to be just a list of file extensions)
Have installed the ''Add-on Compatibility Reporter'' - all it does is give me the choice to enable the addons (and only for one of them, not both), even in safe mode.
''Please note'': I just want to get rid of these addons - I had only just installed them before another upgrade, so I've never used them.
It would be appreciated if responses are for Macs.

I have read that article - the ''Uninstall'' button is not ''greyed out'' - '''it is missing'''.
There are '''ZERO''' buttons beside these addons.
No, the addon is not working - that is why it is disabled.
> Now they have '''no''' "Remove" button, '''even in ''safe'' mode''', so I can't get rid of them.
* I have read the help articles.
* I have restarted in safe mode.
* I have searched my computer for Firefox files.
* I have searched the creator's website (they no longer support one of the addons).
Please suggest something I have not tried yet.

  • How do I remove an "incompatible" extension? They have no "Remove" button.

    I've been using 5.0.1 for long enough that I'm not missing the two extensions that aren't compatible with it.
    In "Add-ons Manager" (about:addons), most have a "Remove" button. But the bottom two, shown stripy, and headed "![name of extension] is incompatible with Firefox 5.0.1.", don't.
    Obviously there are thousands of extensions that are incompatible with 5.0.1; the fact that only two of them are listed means that I must have installed them before I got to this version, and Firefox is in some way remembering this fact. I want to tell it to forget it, so that they no longer appear in my "Add-ons Manager"; they are serving no useful purpose AFAICS.
    They're not listed under Troubleshooting Information (about:support), so I can't remove them manually.

    From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
    Select the extension you want to remove and click Uninstall.

  • How can I remove a malicious browser extention that doesn't show a "remove" button?

    I'm using Firefox 31.0 on Mac OSX and recently noticed a "JolleyWallet" popup and some suspect "Photo-Zoom V10 0.95.14" browser extension that I did not install myself.
    I would very much like to permanently be rid of the extension however there is no option to "Remove" it as there usually is for other extensions. Is there a way to manually delete a malicious extension like this?

    Extensions that do not have a remove button are installed globally.
    You can check the locations mentioned in this article.

  • Completely disable or remove the Mac App Store

    Hello,
    I have several Macintosh computers which are on an unmanaged network, however I need to control what applications are installed on these machines without having to dig through Parental Controls on each machine. My question is simple: *how do I go about disabling or removing the Mac App Store from these machines after updating to 10.6.6 properly ?* -- avoiding the update itself isn't a solution as all future updates are likely to have it bundled in as well.
    Here's what I've tried so far:
    1. Restricting access to App Store.app via CHMOD in the Terminal - messy and would prefer not to have to go this route.
    2. Trashing App Store.app entirely - seems to reset the "App Store" link in the Apple menu back to "Mac OS X Downloads..." and does almost what I want except when opening unknown file types, the dialog asks you if you want to search the App Store at which point you hit the button and it does nothing. Seems a bit hacky/messy.
    I was hoping there would be some sort of toggle for this via a PLIST or something of the sort instead of resorting to deleting system files etc.
    Cheers,
    John

    If you have a computer lab or some similar environment where this app is inappropriate, just delete it. That's all you have to do. Yes, that means that the Search App Store button won't work when opening an unknown file type, but that's a minor issue that can be explained away easily by just telling people who encounter that issue that the App Store is disabled.
    As to everyone else (not John S.A.) who does not have a good reason to disable it and has some kind of aesthetic or ethical gripe about it... quit the baby-whining! Geez, if you don't like it, you don't have to use it! Delete it or don't, but quit crying about it! You can still purchase and install applications the same way you did before the App Store. Apple is not forcing you to use it, they are not forcing you to enter any personal information.
    I really don't get the whole "you get what the manufacturer wants you to have" nonsense. It is an option. Let's keep some perspective here, folks.

  • How do I get rid of browser virus called Iminent, which installs as add-on, when remove button is disabled?

    I have firefox 20.0.1
    This iminent thing must have ridden in on some download but it is all over the browser trying to put up spammy stuff in facebook, gmail, pinterest. I t may be partially blocked by some other add-ons like adblock-plu or better privacy, but it is there creating spurious toolbars on all my social sites and with little popout side windows.
    I ran Malwarebytes and it found nothing.
    I tried to follow these instructions from http://botcrawl.com/how-to-remove-the-search-iminent-search-the-web-hijacker-virus/#Firefox
    to remove it:
    Step 1:
    Open Firefox, and navigate to Tools -> Add-ons (Ctrl+Shift+A).
    Step 2:
    Select Extensions and find the particular Search Iminent Search The Web Toolbar extension, and click disable and remove.
    BUT the "remove" button was absent.
    I tried to follow these instructions to remove Iminent cookie:
    How to block the Iminent.com cookie
    1.From the Tools menu, select Options
    2.In the upper section of the Options window, click Privacy
    3.In the Cookies tab, click Exceptions
    4. In the new Exceptions – Cookies window, enter Iminent.com in the Address of Website field and click Disable.
    BUT there was no "cookie tab."

    Yes all that happened to me [but on FB as I rarely use twitter] . It was browser hijacking. I even commented about it on FB but no one saw the images except me.

  • To switch the mac off i have to remove the battery...

    My macbook is a 2007 model.
    I unfortunately dropped sweet water on it. Of course i saw it hours later and it didn't work...
    So i opened the machine, cleaned everything with clean water, then dried it with a hairdryer.
    Once everything was dry, for sure, i reassembled the mac, but i have some problems now.
    On the motherboard i pushed a black button, and it's impossible to unpush... i guess it's a kind of overcloaking ? Why can't it get unpushed ? So now the computer starts, but the keyboard doesn't work, and to switch the mac off i have to remove the battery...
    Is it because of this button ? (couldn't get anything about it on the net...). Is it "just" because of the water ?
    Thanx in advance

    i also have a safari issue outstanding for a couple of weeks and am now wondering if this is part of the issue?

  • Why have you removed the bookmarks side panel button? This is THE most important feature of firefox.

    Since last update of firefox, the button to open the side bar bookmarks have been removed (ctrl+B) equivalent.
    I don't want to do a ctrl+B command in a graphical interface that I use so often. There is no good enough extension for that task.
    This is THE reason I used firefox since the begining.
    I have gazillions of bookmarks cleanly ordered since YEARS of web browsing. This is the way I use internet. If I have a project I create a folder and I put every interesting links I want to remember in it. There is no way to do that in a dropdown menu which close at every click.
    I know people who use chrome and keep up to 60 tab open just to remember what they need.
    I just spent half a day searching for proper extension in chrome and opera.
    I feel so frustrated and powerless in front of browser developpement, I have to tell it. I would gladly pay 20$ per year to keep that function there, a single button sending ctrl+B command, so simple and already coded.
    Firefox was my only browser for years, I leave you with that. Now I'm going to download and try the new internet explorer.

    You can find the link to open the bookmarks in the sidebar at the top of the bookmark menu button list that opens if you click the folder button (Show your bookmarks) next to the bookmarks star on the Navigation Toolbar.
    You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension to restore some functionality that was lost with the arrival of the Australis style in Firefox 29.
    *Classic Theme Restorer: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/
    *You can check out the settings of the CTR extension via its Options/Preferences button on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" page.
    *You can find extra toolbar buttons and more toolbar settings in Customize (3-bar Firefox menu button > Customize)
    In current Firefox releases (29 and later), that have have the Australis user interface, the orange Firefox menu button has been replaced by the three-bar Firefox Menu button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar and this button is always visible, whether you have the menu bar visible or hidden<br>A consequence of this location is that you no longer can hide the Navigation Toolbar
    *There is a star like button next to the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar to bookmark the current web page and a "Show your bookmarks" button next to it to open the Bookmarks in a drop down menu.<br>You can find "Show All Bookmarks" to open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) at the bottom of this drop-down list
    *If you bookmark a page then "Bookmark This Page" in the Bookmarks menu changes to "Edit This Bookmark"
    *You can make the title bar visible via the "Title Bar" button at the bottom left in the Customize palette window
    It is still possible to have the menu bar visible via the right-click context menu of a toolbar to have menus like the File menu with Print (Ctrl+P) and Print Preview and the Bookmarks menu available.

  • Change button disabled in ESS add/remove dependents

    We are on version 4.7D and have noticed that ESS transaction PZ12 does not consistently allow changes to existing records. I can change a spouse, but I cannot change a child or an emergency contact via ESS.  I get the same results when accessing through R/3, but there are no messages as to what the problem is.  I have tried removing the dependents from all benefits plans, then trying to change the data in PZ12, but that does not work. I have checked for any authorization errors, and none exist. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to correct this and enable the change button in all cases?
    The dependent type 2 is set up with time constraint 3. I have checked table T591A_ESSEX and can see that the subtype is allowed to be maintained via ESS.
    Thanks in advance.

    OK. There are two ways to do this:
    1. Create a button facet in the Add remove component
    2. Modify the theme.
    For the first way here is a sampe:
    1. drag a add removelist onto the designer
    2. Edit the jsp to look like this:
                            <ui:addRemove availableItemsLabel="Available:" binding="#{Page1.addRemoveList1}" id="addRemoveList1"
                                items="#{Page1.addRemoveList1DefaultOptions.options}" moveButtons="true" selectAll="true"
                                selected="#{Page1.addRemoveList1DefaultOptions.selectedValue}" selectedItemsLabel="Selected:" style="left: 24px; top: 24px; position: absolute">
                                <f:facet name="addButton">
                                    <ui:button id="addRemoveList1_addButton" onClick="AddRemove_form1_addRemoveList1.add()" text="Lark Add"/>
                                </f:facet>
                            </ui:addRemove>3. deploy/run
    4. select an item and press the Lark Add button. The internal javascript gets called to add the item.
    The second way requires that you modify the themes. You can view these posts for information on modifying themes:
    http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/gjmurphy?entry=quick_guide_editing_themes_for
    The default button lables are:
    AddRemove.add=Add
    AddRemove.remove=Remove
    Hope it helps,
    Lark

    I'm going to assume that since you deleted your hard drive and all its files, you had a backup, yes? If the backup has an OS (bootable clone), then you can boot into it by holding down the option key when you start up you iMac and choose the backup drive. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper to copy the files back to your iMac.

  • This may seem basic, but I just discovered that I do not have a share button (the thing with the little arrow popping out) to the left of my address bar on my Mac.  I do have one on my IPad and really like it.  Why don't I have this on my Mac?

    Going from Lion to Mountain Lion is considered an upgrade (because it is not free), not an update.
    So yes, given that you have Lion, you are up to date.  But if you can, you might consider going to Mountain Lion for a fee.
    Here's what you need to do the upgrade:

  • I have tried to remove sweetpacks per your intructions but there is no "remove" button on the extensions page for sweetpacks.

    I tried the suggestions posted and nothing works. I have tried going to the mozilla extensions page but there is no "remove" button for sweetpacks.
    I have also tried "about:config" but when I make the change to have a different homepage (google), the change is not saved, it goes back to sweetpacks.
    Again, nothing seems to work even though i removed all the sweetpacks stuff via control panel/remove programs - sweetpacks keeps coming up as my homepage.

    Hi FrankWonka,
    Thanks for contacting Mozilla Support. I'm sorry to see that Sweetpacks has overriden Firefox. Let's see how I can help.
    First, from what I am aware of, Sweetpacks is a hijacker so it won't be in your Add-ons or about:config. You need to go to your Control Panel (''Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features>Uninstall a program)''. There you should find these programs to uninstall: '''SweetIM for Messenger, SweetPacks Toolbar for Firefox, Update Manager for SweetPacks''. ''NOTE: these instructions are based of IE''
    If this doesn't work, then you should reset Firefox to factory settings. (''NOTE: your bookmarks, browsing history, passwords, cookies and web form auto-fill information will be saved'') To do this, Click the orange Firefox button at the top left corner of the window, hover over ''Help'' and click ''Troubleshooting Information.'' Click the ''Reset Firefox'' button in the upper right corner of the Troubleshooting Information page.
    If none of this works, please do not hesitate to respond.
    P.S. I see you are running Fx24. I recommend upgrading to Fx25 to get the latest bug fixes and security updates. You can upgrade [http://www.firefox.com by clicking here].
    Regards,
    Moses
