Disabled ipad and will not restore

I have a disabled ipad, I have conected to itunes and followed instructions to restore, but it hasn't worked.  I have tried this over 10 times now.  itunes has latest update and I have also tried 3 different cables and restarted Mac a few times too.

I do not know that that particular code means, but many times, antivirus software and USB connections can have a negative impact on restoring with iTunes.
My suggestion would be to quit iTunes, restart both devices, disable your firewall and antivirus software, and use another USB a port if you have one to use.

    My iPad 2 will not restore using iTunes. It just quit a week or two ago and showed that I had to connect to iTunes.
    When I do the "restore and update" it does not complete the "verifying iPad restore with Apple" and then shows the following message:
    The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (40).
    I have tried it a number of times. Also turned of anti-virus and firewall. Tried on different computers. All resulted in the same message. The iPad is only 2 1/2 years old, so I hope it can be fixed.
    Does anyone have a solution?

    ipod is disabled for 22,362,812 and will not let me restore it says there is a passwoed on this device and it needs to be removed.  how do i get this device restored

    Go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
    Then, try the Restore.  Everything except the password will be restored.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  Be forewarned that it takes a long time.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
    At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Simply choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
  • HT201210 iPhone 4 stuck in recovery mode and will not restore.
    My iPhone 4 randomly turned off a few days ago and wouldnt turn back on. I plugged it into iTunes which said it was in recovery mode but will not restore as error 1600 keeps propping up. Someone please help, I have tried lots of ways but none are working.
    Placing your device into recovery (DFU) mode:
    Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
           other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
           until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
                    Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
                    release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
           device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
           let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
           charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
           When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
    If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
    If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
    Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.
  • Ok, I have changed the names of my iPads to each be different- but no matter what I do, the Apple ID comes up the old email address on the old iPad and will not let me update Apps, purchase , etc,
    I have used your info to give my two iPads different names. My problem is that my old iPad still has the old email in the Apple ID pop up so it will not let me sign in. I checked my info in the manage my account page and there is my email as primary, which allows me to sign in for apps, etc on the newiPad air, but when I try to update or buy an App on the old iPad, the old email is in the pop up and will not let me sign in.
    How do I change the email in the old iPad to match the new iPad????
    The Old email is on my manage my account page as a verified ALTERNATE email.
    We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
    Have you created a new account or updated your existing account ? All content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, so if you have created a new account then all of your existing downloads will remain tied to your old account.
    If you've updated your existing account then try tapping on the id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app and log out of it and then log back in with the updated id so as to 'refresh' the account on it.
  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194
    ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help
    Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
    Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
    I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
    I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
    I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
    I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.
  • Ipod "corrupted" and will not restore following logging on to itunes
    Please please help!! I have recently bought 2 ipod classic's (120GB). I have previously had MP3 players and all of my music has been in either wma or mp3 format on the computer (through windows media). i have managed to convert all 500+ albums over to itunes but my ipod is now apparently corrupted "code 1439". I have tried everything on the apple website and it will not restore to factory settings. Th ipod itself is saying 0KB free even though there is nothing on it. I tried to download music from itunes and it got to three albums and then crashed. This is my second ipod, having sent the previous one back to the retailer. If anybody can help then it will be greatly appreciated. Computer runs on windows XP pro, Norton 360 installed, and all of my music is still in Windows media as well.
    This might be hardware related and you'll have to get your phone checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store next to your place.
    You can also contact Apple Support and talk to them. They can check the battery online.
    Or visit this page to do that: iPhone - Contact Support - Apple Support
    Click on Apple Support, then on ->Battery, Power &Charging ->Battery questions and troubleshooting, and follow the instructions.
