Disabled users still in address book

We are running Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2003 / AD platform. Disabled users are still appearing in the Outlook 2003 address book. Shouldn't they be automatically hidden? Users are accessing these addresses and creating emails, but of course can't get to the users.
Firstly, how do I make a list of all users that were disable but are still in the address list. Secondly, what's the best method to hide them (without having to access each one separately) ?
Thanks.

Well, just disabling user account doesn't remove the user name from address book. You need select an option "Hide from Exchange address lists" available in Exchange Advance tab of user properties.
I used to get the list of disabled users which are not hidden in GAL with below custom LDAP query in Exchange 2003.
Open ADU&C, Right click on Domain & click on Find, in Find select "custom search", select Advance tab and in "Enter LDAP Query" paste below ldap query and click on Fiind Now.
(mailNickname=*)(userAccountControl=66050)(!msExchHideFromAddressLists=True)
You may need to verify the value of an attribute "userAccountControl" of any disabled user with ADSIEdit.msc and give that value instead of 66050 because that one I used in Exchange 2003 and Windows 2003 environment.

  • Disabled users still on Lync and client contact list

Any way I could cleanup disabled users in Lync? I also realized such users are still on contact list of users. Any process to automatically clean users up when they are disabled in Active Directory. Am seeing terminated users in the Lync systems.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Alert from TechNet Posting

You need to disable users for Lync Server, as the address book updates, the contact information updates, then non-existing contacts disappear automatically.

  • Disabling iCloud, problems with Address Book and iCal.

Ok, I made the mistake of turning on iCloud before knowing much about it or really needing it.  I just have a MBP and no other devices.  So, I now have iCal and Address Book connected to iCloud.  I've tried to disable it but have not had success.  I export my data files for both and when I import the data back... the iCloud part comes with it.  What is so strange is that I can add events to iCal and iCal works without a glitch.  But, I can't make ANY changes to my Address Book.  It doesn't save any and Address Book just crawls along at a snails pace as if it is broken.  I believe this all started because I activated iCloud.  I'm NOT syncing it to any other device so I don't need it.
Are these problems because of iCloud or because I exported/imported onto a new install?  I'm using a different user name on my same computer... but the iCloud account has no changes.
I'm just confused as to what to do.  My Address Book goes so slow and I can't edit it.  I don't need iCloud, etc.  I try to turn it all off and that solves nothing.  I try to export / import my data file to my desktop and back after turning iCloud off and this solves nothing.  iCloud just comes back with that data.  What should probably be a simple task I can't solve.

Please let me know if this works for you guys, it was a lifesaver for me!

  • Can multiple users share 1 address book w/out MobileMe?

To date we've used MobileMe, so synchronizing our address book amongst two user accounts (1 MacBook) was easy. However, that's the ONLY service of MobileMe I use anymore. It's just WAY too expensive for what it provides, especially compared to free services like Google. Thus, we're not renewing.
QUESTION: Is it possible to copy the address book file to a shared folder and share it like one would an iphoto or itunes library? Just checking before I try it, in case something explodes. Also, where is the file located? Thanks in advance!
p.s. Sorry if this is a repeat (likely)- I checked the first several pages and couldn't find anything.

You could try Address Book and Calendar Server (http://www.addressbookserver.com) which lets you share your contacts with your own server running on your own network.
PS: I am the developer of AddressBookServer so naturally biased towards it.

  • How do I stop an automatic 'sharing' of my files with another Mac user in my address book?

    Hi all
I have just installed Lion and it has started to 'share' access to other mac users files - all of which come from my address book. How do I stop this and delate the links that have been created ? Very embarrassing right now - some of these people are my clients!

The easiest ways are through FaceTime (video calling) or actual screen scaring via iChat.

  • Just synced iPhone and SOME contacts gone from phone, still in address book

I just synced my iPhone for the first time in a couple weeks. The software is up to date, as is iTunes...
Anyhow, I noticed some of my contacts had disappeared when I looked in my SMS messages and a lot of them just had numbers where names used to be. Checked my contacts and a lot of contacts are missing.
They are still in my address book on my mac, and I have the correct folders checked so they should sync, but it is not doing so.
Photos, calendars, music/vid sync as normal.
What is going on? This is VERY annoying.
    Thank you.

    ShamRockNRoll,
Have you noticed if it's a specific group that is not syncing correctly, or is it random contacts from all groups? If it's just a specific group, you may need to delete that group in Address Book and recreate it.
If it's random contacts from all groups and if all of the contacts you want on the iPhone are in Address Book, you can just select "Contacts" from the Advanced section down at the bottom of the Info tab. That will replace all contacts on the iPhone with those that you have selected to sync from Address Book.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Can an AD-disabled user still use Lync?

    Lync 2013 Server/ Lync 2013 Client.
Here's the scenario:  A Lync-enabled user leaves the company.  After they're gone, the AD account is disabled.  A couple of days later, another user notices that the user who had left is still visible in Lync AND their presence green (i.e.
available.)  The assumption is that the former user has Lync running on their home PC..
Is this normal?  I assumed that if the AD account of the Lync user were disabled, the user would no longer be able to use Lync.  For instance, the disabled user can no longer access their mailbox even though the mailbox still exists.
So why would it be different for Lync?
We ended up having to specifically disable the Lync account of the former user, but why should this even be necessary?
    Thanks in advance..

    This is entirely possible.
Also take a look at this post: http://www.expta.com/2011/03/disabling-user-in-ad-does-not-disable.html
Basically to ensure a user is disabled in Lync, you should disable them on the Lync Server, not just rely on disabling them in AD.

  • Is there a limit to the number of addresses can I put into a group of multiple users in my address book?

I have just started using Thunderbird and want to set up a number of list groups in my Address Book so that I can simply click on the list name and the email goes to multiple people.
Is there a limit to the number of addresses that I can put into each group? Or, can I put as many addresses into each group as I want to? Thanks for your answer.

    Thunderbird has no limit.

  • GPO Disable user change IP Address

I have Windows 2008 SP2 Domain controller, all my users have joined domain, and put all them have admin local right, so they can change IP address. I want my user have admin local right, but cannot change IP address. How can i create GPO and apply on Domain
    controller to solve this issue

    Hello,
as the GPO refresh time is in between 90-120 minutes by default a local admin can change settings, if the person know how, until the policy will be refreshed.
    Hello Weber,
Correct me if I'm wrong: the user can do what you say only before the first time the GPO applies. After that, it is not possible anymore.
Yes, there are ways to bypass a GPO, but this is not the issue. Anything can be bypassed. Putting in place a GPO like this, IF a user change the IP of a computer afterwards, you know at least who's the guy and can take actions to stop him doing

  • File Sharing - Cannot disconnect or add user from Address book

    Hi all,
Had a look through the support pages but haven't found an answer to this issue I am having....
I have recently wired a LAN between my macbook and a friends macbook. My problem is that I "connected' to my macbook using my username and password from the other computer. Once the computers were connected (and file share is switched on) he had full access to my hard drive (which was what I expected). However, we are unable to 'disconnect' the file share connection without disabling the file share option within system settings! The password was not saved in his keychain. Whenever we connect the computers he has full access to my drive!
In our case it is simple enough to ensure security as the example is simply to solve, however, the wider implications of not being able to manually disconnect from a source are obvious. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
The second problem I have is that I am unable to added a named user to the 'file sharing' user list. When I choose the user from my address book the mac asks for a password. Once this is entered and accepted the window disappears but no name is added to the file share list!
Apologies if these seem idiot problems but they are slowly driving me mad!!

I have had zero problems with Mail in Snow Leopard - it's been rock solid and very reliable for me.
I sort of cured the AddressBook problem but I have no idea why it works and I am not happy with my fix. What I did was deleted the contents of ~/Application Support/AddressBook and ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.addressbook.plist. I then rebooted and opened up AddressBook. The database was empty except for Apple and my own card which OSX creates by default. I then attempted to create a new contact and all of my old contacts magically appeared! I then deleted the new test contact and edited the contact I was originally trying to add a phone number to. I then quit address book and re-launched it and the new phone number was still there! I checked console.log and there were no errors reported this time (previously I was getting lots of error messages each time I quit and re-launched AddressBook.
I have no idea where those contacts came from since I cleared out the entire database and the cache, but whatever happened, it seems to work now.
    BUGGY!

  • New created user does appear in the outlook address book

My exchange server is 2007. I create a new new user in the exchange server. However, with outlook address book I did not see it. With OWA, I can see that user. Therefore, I am sure that Global address book works well. BTW, with those command
Update-OfflineAddresssBook -Identity "Default Offline Address Book"
Update-GlobalAddressList -Identity "Default Global Address List"
I still did not see the new created user in outlook address book.
I tried my outlook 2010 as well. I tried the action to download addressbook. Not working either. What shall I do?

    Hi,
According to your description, the new mailbox doesn’t appear in Outlook while it’s visible in OWA.
Before going further, I’d like to recommend you check if it’s visible in Outlook with online mode.
If it is, the issue is most likely related to OAB. And we can try to download a new OAB and restart related services.
For more detail steps, you can refer to the answer in the following thread:

If it doesn’t show up in online mode, we can try to check if the new mailbox is visible in GAL on another computer. For more information about OAB downloading and updating, please refer to:

  • Multiple users sharing address book (intranet)

Can one machine with multiple users share the address book? Basically I am setting up 3 users (parent control) so they can't stuff up the settings (desktop etc.) Two of them will share the address book,iPhoto,iTunes etc. of the administrator. The other will be independant.
Can it be done simply. Yes I know about Prefs/User Groups and Users/Shared Folder. I have an existing setup (Address Book etc.) in the admin user, as the system has only had 1 user for a few years.
    Cheers

You would think Apple, the forefront of Home computing, would have a built in preference selection allowing multiple users on the SAME computer to share simple things like address book and calendar data.
    Seems like a no-brainer.
Its ridiculous that I have to buy a subscription to an online account, send all my personal stuff to some server in California or wherever in the world it is just so that I can share the info with my wife on the computer we share here at home
    Money Grab or what?

if anything one should try a symbolic link with some inherited ACLs to make everything in the address book folder read+write for both users.
"if anything" apple needs to provide an update that streamlines this sharing business, or at least provides a work around that is understandable for the average user. We spent good money on this machine to make some things in life easier, not to become programmers or system managers

  • How can I copy address book content from user 1 to user 2 in my iMac

I have my iMac set up with 2 users. The address book is in user 1. I need to establish a copy of it in user 2 so that the icloud I have set up for that user icludes the address book. How can i copy the address book from user 1 to user 2?

Are you sure you did that right ... because I did a File/Backup Address Book, and the file named included the date. I then copied the file through our Airport network from the Powerbook to a new iMac. The opening Address Book on the iMac, I did a File/Revert to Address Book Backup, which allows you to choose the file. Now the iMac had the same Address Book file as the Powerbook. This looks to me to be the same thing you are trying to do.

  • Multi-User Address Book Sync

I have 2 user accounts on the same mac, and I want them to share the same address book via iCloud. Each Mac user account is logged into the same iCloud account. Each user's Address Book is linked (in prefs-accounts) to the same iCould account. Each user has the iCloud source selected (on the Groups page) and each user sees the same Address Book info on the iCloud web site. But... when each user opens the Address Book app from within their respective user account, the data is not synced, and changes made by one user are not synced to the other user - even though I THOUGHT they were accessing the same iCloud file. I am confused and stumped.

Unfortunately not. No groups and any Mobile Me account here not even many contacts (436) and any duplicates except in Ical after having restored my iphone 4 times. Something strange too, 2 weeks ago, Isync was running while I'm not registered on MM nor Icloud (turned off on my iphone) . Maybe a conflict between Outlook, Addressbook, Itunes and Isync on SL....I'm going crasy with this issue It reminds me of Windows ! Thx anyway, I'm gooing to contact apple in the following days.

  • Address Book Wish List Additions???

As a long time Mac user I find Address Book extremely lame in that it lacks many helpful usability features that were standard in older third party contact managers. Ever since Now-Up-to-Date bought out and stupidly extinguished Touchbase/Datebook, Macheads have had to put up with less than optimal address book solutions. In the hope that Apple's AB developers peruse this forum once in a while, I'd like to start a wish list of features I'd like to see in a future version...please copy, append and post your suggestions to this list as well.
    1. Selectable auto-capitalization with manual field override when in auto-cap mode.
    2. Selectable auto-fill with manual field override
    3. Ability to query contact database and to mark, unmark, select, sort, total and display contacts in printable listings. I still use my dinosaur Touchbase program in Classic to perform marketing studies on my business's house list. TB provides an elegant usability model.
    4. Ability to save and edit custom list formats.
    5. Selectable Alpha-tab A-Z index at top of contact window.
    6. Ability to auto-dial numbers from contact window or menu bar.
    7. Integration with Text Edit or ??? to create auto-letters.

    Here's my 2 cents worth:
Allow users of Address Book to --
    1. Auto select an address from Address Book by typing in a nickname associated with an Address Card. (i.e. "mom" or "gramps").
    2. Set a preferred or default email address for cards in your "ALL" group, just like you can when you select "Edit Distribution List…" from the EDIT menu on a particular distribution group. (Kind of like how you set Favorites on the iPhone in the Phone application)
