Disabling Any connect in Cisco ASA's
what is the best way to disable anyconnect in the Cisco ASA's.
Thanks
The quickest way to disable a remote access SSL VPN (the most common type by far when using Anyconnect clients) is to turn off webvpn ("no webvpn") in configure mode.

Connectivity Issues Cisco ASA 5515 in Transparent Mode
Hi,
we´re having problems with one transparent mode setup at one customer site. The ASA is equiped with a CX Module, but we´re not using it, so far in the service policy rules it was enabled and matched all traffic, but in "monitor only" mode. There is a global acl that allows any-any-IP.
Firewall-Info:
- ASA Version 9.1(2)
- Interfaces gi0/0 + gi0/2 without any interface errors
The ASA 5515x is configured as a "bump in the wire". In general our setup is working but with beginning of the installation of the firewall the customer faces following connection issues, without the firewall no problems:
- Connections to SAP-Servers behind the MPLS begin to drop, affected all users
- Incoming monitoring sessions (ping/snmp) from central management are facing ping timeouts, connection timeouts
- http downloads are stopping, Customer: it will stop responding and the download will fail.
In general the customer describes it this way: "We do not have the best connection here so once we connected the firewall all the problems are magnified"
I recognized, that we unconfigured the default inspection during initial setup and reconfigured this entry for the cx module. So the the default inspection with all the settings are not present any more... How important are these settings? One phenomen is, that I´ve seen a large numbers of concurrent connections that increased over time. And we already had that situation, that the firewall reached the max-conn count.
Should I try to reconfigure the default inspection, as it ships from factory? And whats the best way to check for problems? What can be the reason for the dropping connections?
I attached a network plan and the firewall config, hopefully, that somebody has an idea. Of course I can provide additional information...
Best Regards
SebastianHi Vibhor,
thanks for your reply. Does this also affect the traffic, even the setting is set to "Monitor Only" ?
Is it recommend to configure the default-inspection rule as a default setting?
Further Question: I´ve read sth. about, that service policy rules must be "reloaded" to take effect, after they have been changed. Is that right and how do I reload them?
Here is an output from sh asp drop, do I have to care about certain values? This values result from two connected users doing some downloads over a 2Mbit connection.
ciscoasa# show asp drop
Frame drop:

I can make a clientless SSL connectionHi,
Maybe you are not falling into that tunnel-group SSL? By default, you will fall into the DefaultWebvpnGroup unless you choose the TG via a dropdown or directly access the group via a groupurl.
Example: When no 'tunnel-group-list' or 'group-url' is configured:
Accessing https:// will take you to DefaultWebvpnGroup.
When 'tunnel-group-list enable' is configured under webvpn, you will get a dropdown of tunnel-groups to choose from [provided you have an alias defined for the group]
When group-url is configured for a particular TG, say https:///test , on accessing that URL, you are taken to that group directly.
So basically, you would need to check which group you are hitting. Running 'debug webvpn 255' should also show you this.
Thanks

TCP connections on Cisco ASA disconnects the database session every 30 Minutes
Right after a firmware upgrade form 8.4.2 to 8.4.7 on our ASA 5540:
the database app that makes a tcp connection with the database loses connection to the database servers on the inside of the firewall
-Nothing changed on the process servers.
-Nothing but firmware version changed on the firewalls.
-Rebooting did not help.
-Connections don't always drop every 30 minutes, but it's still almost exactly at that time, with a 90% chance of it happening. And it reestablishes in about 52 second
-The client is not willingly terminating the connections to the database servers on the inside. The connection is just going away.I am not seeing any error in the logs in ASA but in our client we see:
Latest from PROD (times are in UTC):

Activating any connect license on ASA
Hi everyone,
i have updated the anyconnect license on ASA
when i run command ----- sh activation-key
Running Activation Key: 0x9740c26c 0xb8dcd8a8.x.x.x.x
AnyConnect for Mobile : Disabled
AnyConnect for Cisco VPN Phone : Disabled
AnyConnect Essentials : Enabled
Need to confirm if anyconnect license is activated now?
Regards
MaheshMahesh
Yes. This output does verify that the license for AnyConnect Essentials is activated. You do not have a license for AnyConnect Mobile (used if you want VPN from iPhones etc) and you do not have a license for Cisco VPN phones (used if you are using IP phones and want the phones to be able to establish VPN sessions). But users with a PC/MAC etc should be able to run the AnyConnect client and establish SSL VPN sessions.

Azure Site to Site VPN with Cisco ASA 5505
I have got Cisco ASA 5505 device (version 9.0(2)). And i cannot connect S2S with azure (azure network alway in "connecting" state). In my cisco log:
IP = 104.40.182.93, Keep-alives configured on but peer does not support keep-alives (type = None)
Group = 104.40.182.93, IP = 104.40.182.93, QM FSM error (P2 struct &0xcaaa2a38, mess id 0x1)!
Group = 104.40.182.93, IP = 104.40.182.93, Removing peer from correlator table failed, no match!
Group = 104.40.182.93, IP = 104.40.182.93,Overriding Initiator's IPSec rekeying duration from 102400000 to 4608000 Kbs
Group = 104.40.182.93, IP = 104.40.182.93, PHASE 1 COMPLETED
I have done all cisco s2s congiguration over standard wizard cos seems your script for 8.x version of asa only?
(Does azure support 9.x version of asa?)
How can i fix it?Hi,
As of now, we do not have any scripts for Cisco ASA 9x series.
Thank you for your interest in Windows Azure. The Dynamic routing is not supported for the Cisco ASA family of devices.
Unfortunately, a dynamic routing VPN gateway is required for Multi-Site VPN, VNet to VNet, and Point-to-Site.
However, you should be able to setup a site-to-site VPN with Cisco ASA 5505 series security appliance as
demonstrated in this blog:
Step-By-Step: Create a Site-to-Site VPN between your network and Azure
http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2013/10/09/step-by-step-create-a-site-to-site-vpn-between-your-network-and-azure.aspx
You can refer to this article for Cisco ASA templates for Static routing:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn133793.aspx
Did you download the VPN configuration file from the dashboard and copy the content of the configuration
file to the Command Line Interface of the Cisco ASDM application? It seems that there is no specified IP address in the access list part and maybe that is why the states message appeared.
According to the
Cisco ASA template, it should be similar to this:
access-list <RP_AccessList>
extended permit ip object-group
<RP_OnPremiseNetwork> object-group <RP_AzureNetwork>
nat (inside,outside) source static <RP_OnPremiseNetwork>
<RP_OnPremiseNetwork> destination static <RP_AzureNetwork>
<RP_AzureNetwork>
Based on my experience, to establish
IPSEC tunnel, you need to allow the ESP protocol and UDP Port 500. Please make sure that the
VPN device cannot be located behind a NAT. Besides, since Cisco ASA templates are not
compatible for dynamic routing, please make sure that you chose the static routing.
Since you configure the VPN device yourself, it's important that you would be familiar with the device and its configuration settings.
Hope this helps you.

Trying to use DS 6.2 w/ Cisco ASA 5540 for VPN Auth
Hello all,
I'm trying to connect our Cisco ASA 5540 with LDAP authentication to our DSEE 6.2 directory. The authentication is failing and this line in the debug output from the firewall is really getting to me: "No results returned for iPlanet global password policy".
Their authentication process is two-steps.. It binds with a service account, searches on the "naming attribute" (in our case uid), grabs the DN of the user, and unbinds. With step 2, it binds to the directory with the DN it found when searching, and the password the user supplied. If the second bind is successful, then the firewall lets them on the VPN.
When the firewall binds with the service account, it successfully finds the user's DN and disconnects, so I know my ACI is working correctly there. It just seems to fail when trying to re-bind with the user's DN...
We opened a TAC case with Cisco, and this is their response:
The DN configured on the security appliance to access a Sun directory server must be able to access the default password policy on that server. We recommend using the directory administrator, or a user with directory administrator privileges, as the DN. Alternatively, you can place an ACI on the default password policy.
I refuse to let a poorly written application or appliance bind as cn=Directory Administrator!
I tried putting an ACI on the default password policy located at cn=Password Policy,cn=config , but that doesn't seem to make any difference to the ASA.. My best guess is that it's looking somewhere else for the password policy... did it used to be located elsewhere in iPlanet? Has anyone made this work before with a Cisco ASA?My network admin and I ended up solving this problem by sheer dumb luck. In the ASA config, you tell it what kind of LDAP server it's connecting to. In one set of docs, it had the available options as microsoft, sun, or generic. In another set of docs, we found that openldap was also an acceptable option.
I'm guessing the ASA is thinking the "sun" option is connecting to the old Netscape Directory Server. Changing the "server type" to openldap made it work immediately. It also does not look like it's trying to look at the LDAP server's password policy now either. -
Hi All,
I'm looking to connect a Cisco ASA 5525 firewall that will provide primary internet access to our core network. I want the ASA to learn routes from our core and advertise a default route by OSPF.
I'm happy with the basic configuration here but I'm wondering if there is any advatange to have the ASA sitting in a non-backbone area instead of area 0. Are there any best practises with this scenario or is connecting the ASA to area 0 perfectly acceptable?
Thanks,Hi Will,
I Suggest you to keep your ASA in Area 0, instead of non-backbone area.
I assume your asa will be having one end connected with LAN/Core LAN and other end with the public segment right.....
Then you can have the basic configuration set on ASA, as simple as possible...
router ospf 1
router-id 1.1.1.1.
network 1.1.1.0 255.255.255.0 area 0
timers spf 1 10
log-adj-changes
You will be running the OSPF between your edge router and asa....
Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.
Regards

Demo license for the any connect mobilee
Hello Team,
Actually we want to do the testing to connect mobile device to our organisation (for jabber) .
That required any connect license in ASA ,is there any option we can get the Demo license for the any connect Mobile
Thanks in AdvanceCisco does not offer a demo license for AnyConnect for Mobile. The activation key for that license is not time limited and nothing would prevent you from installing it and then using it forever in production.
That said, it's not very costly to purchase - no more than a couple hundred US$, depending on your ASA model. -
Cisco any connect does not reconnect to backup ASA
Hi
In Cisco ASA ssl vpn using ANY connect, I have a question on ASA failover. There is an option in the ASDM (AnyConnect Client profile) where one can set a number of backup ASAs in case the primary ASA goes down, So Client can connect to backup ASA in case primary goes down.
Primary ASA = vpn1.test.com
Backup ASA = vpn2.test.com
I have added backup ASA in the backup server list in the client profile section. In the first case, when primary ASA is down, and ANY connect client try to connect to primary ASA (vpn1.test.com) then after few seconds ANYConnect client realizes primary ASA is down and then anyconnect client connect to the backup ASA .
But in case the primary ASA is up and ANYconnect cleint is connected. If I shutdown the primary ASA, then ANY connect client never switch to backup ASA " vpn2.test.com".
Can Someone guide me here why client not try to reconnect to the backup in case the primary ASA gets down.
Any connect version : 3.1.02040
ASA IoS : 9.1
//umairIf you want to make use of the Cisco Connect Software then the connection should be in the following way:
Connect the Modem with the Router on the Internet Port and connect the computer with the Router to any one of the Ethernet Port [Numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4]…
So if you try to make the connection to any other form then in that case the Cisco Connect Software may get installed but it won’t detect the Router and will not get the Internet…. If you want to configure the Router then you can do it manually…
So if you have a DSL connection you can refer to this link:
http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=4020&userrole=Linksy...
So if you have a Cable Internet Connection you can refer to this link:

Could the slow internet connection be due to license limitations? Or is there something wrong with my configuration?

Cisco ASA 5505 doesn't forware incoming connection to LAN
Hello everybody.
I just got a Cisco asa 5505 with the next OS and ASDM info
ASA 5505 OS 8.4(3) ASDM 6.47
I configured and enter all rules to allow incoming traffic to LAN but it's not working also, I have one host inside that is configured in a second IP and create the rule to allow traffic to it but it doesn't work too.
Problem 1
I have VNC running in port 5900 tcp and I want to connect from Internet using port 6001 and this has to forware the connection to the real VNC port. In the configuration I have a few host with the same configuration but I use different outside port to get it.
Problem 2.
I have a second IP with services: SMTP, HTTP, HTTPS and port 444 all TCP forwarding to a server in the LAN.
Facts:
SMTP.
Every time that I do telnet to the second IP looking for the SMTP port, the firewall doesn't let the incoming connection goes through and the LOGGING screen doesn't how that connection.
PORT 6001 (outside)
this port is configured to work with the IP in the outside internface and it was to send the incoming connection to a host inside to the real port 5900.
Can any one check my configuration if I'm missing anything? for sure I'm but I didn't find it. Bellow is the configuration, I masked the Public IPs just left the last number in the IP, also I left the LAN network to see better the configuration.
I will appreciate any help.
Thanks a lot..
CONFIGURATION.

no asdm history enableJose, your fix to problem 1 allows all access from the outside, assuming you applied the extended list to the outside interface. Try to be more restrictive than an '...ip any any' rule for outside_in connections. For instance, this is what I have for incoming VOIP (access list and nat rules):
access list rule:
access-list outside_access_in extended permit udp any object server range 9000 9049 log errors
nat rule:
nat (inside, outside) source static server interface service voip-range voip-range
- 'server' is a network object *
- 'voip-range' is a service group range
I'd assume you can do something similar here in combination with my earlier comment:
access-list incoming extended permit tcp any any eq 5900
Can you explain your forwarding methodology a little more? I'm by no means an expert on forwarding, but the way I read what you're trying to do is that you have an inbound VNC request coming in on 5900 and you want the firewall to figure out which host the request should go to. Or is it vice-versa, the inbound VNC request can be on port 6001-6004 ? -
Cisco ASA 5505 VPN connection issue ("Unable to add route")
I'm trying to get IPSec VPN working onto a new Cisco ASA5505. Pretty standard configuration.
Setup:
* Cisco VPN client on Windows 7 (v5.0.07.0290 x64 on Laptop1 and v5.0.07.0440 x64 on Laptop2)
* PPPoE/NAT and internal DHCP on the ASA were configured with the Startup Wizard in ASDM
NATting is working fine - internal PCs get an IP address in the 192.168.2.0/24 range and can all access the Internet.
I wanted to be able to connect from anywhere to the ASA in order to reach one of the internal servers. Should be pretty basic.
First I tried with the built-in ASDM IPSec Wizard, instructions found here.
VPN clients can connect to the ASA, are connected (until they're manually disconnected), but cannot reach the internal network nor the Internet. Note VPN client can connect fine to a different VPN site (not administered by myself).
Client logs show following error messages:

I've already tried the suggestions from this link, although the problem is different there (as the user can still access the internet, even without split tunneling, which I cannot).
A show run shows the following output (note in the below I have tried a different VPN network: 192.168.3.0/24 instead of 172.16.1.0/24 seen in the Client log)
Result of the command: "sh run"

Unfortunately I'm getting the same "AddRoute failed to add a route with metric of 0: code 160" error message.
I'm very confused as this should be a pretty standard setup. I tried to follow the instructions on the Cisco site to the letter...
The only "differences" in my setup are an internal network of 192.168.2.0 (with ASA IP address 192.168.2.254) and PPPoE with DHCP instead of no PPPoE at all.
Does anyone know what's going on?Yes, I have tried from a different laptop - same results. Using that laptop I can connect to a different IPSec site without issues.

Cisco ASA 5505 Remote Access IP/Sec VPN Connectivity Issues
We have a Cisco ASA that we use just for Remote Access VPN. It uses UDP and was working fine for about 2 months. Recently clients have had intermittent issues when connecting from home. The following message is display by the Cisco VPN Client :
"Secure VPN connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding"
Upon looking at a client side packet capture, I notice that no response is being given back to the client for the udp packets sent to the ASA on udp 500. If I login to the ASA from the LAN and send a single ping FROM the ASA, then the client can connect without issue. I don't understand the significance of the needed outbound ping since ping is not used by the client to test if the ASA is alive.
Once again this is a remote access udp ip/sec VPN. I set most of it up with the VPN wizard and then backed up the config. The issue started happening at least a month after setup (maybe two) and I restored to the saved config just in-case, but the issue remains.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I'm using IOS 831 and have tried 821 and 823 as one thread that I found recommended downgraded to 821.
Thanks much,
JustinJavier,
I logged into the ASA last time the VPN went down. I issued the following commands:
debug crypto isakmp 190
debug crypto ipsec 190
capture outside-cap interface outside match udp any any
I then used a remote access tool to access the client and tried to connect. I got absolutely nothing from debugging. So I issued the following command:
show capture outside | include 500
and also got nothing. So I issued the following command:
ping 4.2.2.2
Upon which my normal deug messaged began to showup, so I issued the show capture outside command again and recieved the expected output below:
