Disabling attachment downloads OR limiting email download size

I have set up many email accounts but I cannot disable downloads of attachment. It shoots up my phone bill as unwanted emails with attachments are also downloaded. Is there a way of disabling attachment downloading OR downloading ONLY HEADERS OR limiting the size of each email to be downloaded (like the option available in Windows mobile phones).

The only settings that I am aware of for the mail that would limit anything are the "load remote images" and the preview. You could use the preview to decide if you wanted to open a particular email, and there is a paperclip icon for emails that contain attachments. Wait to open them. Generally, they only download a portion of the email if it is a large one, but I don't know if this is a guarantee. If you are having issues with the amount of data you are using because of the restrictions of your account, you might want to set the email accounts to only check manually, so you can check them when you are in a wifi area, or turn off the accounts that are not really necessary.

My Ipad works ok with the same computer. Thanks

Did you restrict email to load over wifi only?
it is possible your 3G coverage is not enough to load email.
you can try deleting your email account and adding it back.
if you are using the built in mail app, try downloading a different app.  I use gmail and yahoo mail app because the built in app is terrible.

You have Acrobat Pro on your system. It will try to open PDFs, and of course it will fail. You must uninstall it. Then, you will need a PDF reader. So install Adobe Reader. That seems quite simple, but perhaps something is wrong. If anything goes wrong with these two steps (1) uninstall Acrobat Pro (2) install Adobe Reader, then please let us know the details.

  • Email download limits

I had a client waiting on emails to download into outlook.  When the problem was reported, there were several days worth of emails to download.
Outlook was retrieving messages, but it was only taking 8 - 15 at a time, the total size for each group was between 20 - 35 mb, and this went on for hours until it finally downloaded all the emails.
What I would like to know is, is this normal behavior for outlook?  Is there a limit on how much Outlook can download at once?  If there isn't a limit, is there a setting I can adjust in Outlook so that it can retrieve emails any faster?
System is WIN 7 Pro, 64 bit, 4gb ram,  Outlook 2007,  downloading email from Gmail account.
    Any advice would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

No, there's no download limit.  I'm guessing you are using an IMAP account; IMAP is notorious for being the poorest performing email protocol with Outlook, especially versions before Outlook 2013.
You do have some control though over downloading.  Go into your Send/Receive Settings and you can control on a folder-by-folder basis whether to download email headers only or the full content.

  • Downloading attached zip file from emails using safari

How to download, and where will be the downloaded attached zip file in email be stored using safari? How to open and save the zip file attached to the email? Do you need an app to open and store the zip file?

The app GoodReader (I don't know if there are any free apps that can also do it) can be used to zip and unzip email attachments
press and hold the zip file in your email - after a couple of seconds you should get a popup, with one option being 'Open in GoodReader' which you should select
GoodReader should then open with the zip file listed under My Documents
select Manage Files on the right-hand side of GoodReader, select the zip file, and touch the Unzip button that appears on the right
You should also be able to download zip files directly into GoodReader by typing the URL in its Wed Downloads sectio.

  • Mail only downloads headers of emails with large attachments

    Hi-
    I have Maverick.
My mail is delivered though an Exchange Server.
At present emails download fine UNLESS they have a large attachment.
If they have a large attachment, the email will appear in the central "preview" pane with the address of the sender and the subject line, but will otherwise not download.
The email will only start to download once I click on the email in the preview pane. This can be laborious if I have 50+ emails with large attachments.
How do I configure mail so that it will download the emails, irrespective of the size of the attachments.
    Thanks,
    Richard

  • HTML email - download image prompt

    Greetings,
Do you know how to code an html file so that
when you send it in the body of an email,
the user has to click on a missing image in order to
get the real image to download and replace it.
I imagine that it is related to the NOSEND feature,
but when I used NOSEND=1, the page sent completely intact
rather than all except for the images.

    Hi Alan,
That's actually how my test worked. I think it works well,
but my boss wants the email to look half disabled I guess.
An email that he received was an html email, but the images
didn't port with the email, so the place that should have an
    image
has a 'system-like' prompt over the image area that basically
    says
    click to download image.
I thought that this occured because of the nosend="1"
    attribute
I found attached to the images in it. So now I'm trying to
    recreate
this situation. I'm about to try a test by sending out an
    HTML
via stationary rather than copy paste.

  • Manual Email Download w/ Latest OS

    Hi all - I'm new here :-)
Day 2 with a new BB Q10 and so far it's great!
I'm pretty tech savvy and have set up my POP3 email account as well as the SMTP etc.. and eveything works.
I set the POP3 account email 'Sync Interval' to "Manual", assuming this would allow me to check my email ONLY when I wish to do so as I don't want email downloaded to the Q10 unless I have a good reason to check it. I bought the  Q10 primarily as a phone and not as an email tool.
With my desktop email program I delete email on the server after downloading, so there's never a lot waiting for downloading. But I do get the usual spam + "friends" who enjoy sending 5-10MB image attachments of their cat (sigh) and I don't want these eating into my Data plan while on the road.
    The problem:
Despite the 'Sync -> Manual' setting the Q10 still downlloads whatever's on the mail server.
    So -- the questions are:
    1) How can only get/sync the email ONLY when I want to?
    2) Can I temporarily disable that email account altogether and reenable it without having to re-enter all the settings?
    3) Once downloaded, can I delete emails without opening them and being exposed to what they might contain?
    4) Are there alternative email programs available for the Q10
Thank you any help with this.

    vmisirlis wrote:
What you can do with the email is to set when to sync your can also go to settings and toggle the switch to data plan in order to save data!
The data plan is already off as I'm on my local wi-fi. But I still end up downloading emails that I then appear to have to OPEN if I want to delete them.
Is there no way to delete emails without opening?
What about deleting emails that may contain a dangerous payload?
The set to sync every "24 hours" will work only for 24 hours. I'd prefer to set it to something longer (->7days). But when it does kick in it will still download whatever's waiting online.
Why not a Sync ON/OFF option?
Or why doesn't the "Manual" sync setting bahave as it suggests?
If this is a bug then I'm happy to just wait for a fix. But I was hoping there was already a setting that I had overlooked.
Thanks for your suggestions nonetheless :-)

    Hello Bichitra84,
You should be able download and view most attachments from within the Mail app on your iPhone. All you would need to do is tap on the attachment to download it and then tap it again to view it. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • All my emails download in Mail as "flagged" already!

    Hi Everyone!
Well, I have tried about all I can think of, and I have asked other Mac users, and now I am coming to this forum for some wisdom from other Mac sages and users.
I have this incredible annoyance which began with OS 10.5 and has continue in 10.6.
My Apple Mail app downloads my emails from Gmail, Yahoo, Windows Live, and all the email that is downloaded, comes already with the red flag. They the red flag disappears when I read an email.
All I have to do is click on the email, and the red flag disappears.
Is their a way to change this? Is there a way that my emails download without being red flagged?
    Your help would be appreciated.

    Hey Sam,
I just had the same issue too. It has to do with the rules set in Mail.
If you go to preferences and then to the rules tab which is on the
extreme right. You will see a number of rules and checkboxes.
One of the rules forces Mail to flag all the emails you receive. It
is obviously one of the checked rules. So if you click on the rules,
and go to Edit, you will get an idea of what each individual rule does.
The rule which cause Mail to flag emails on my computer was called
Mail FX. I just unchecked it and disabled it. You can delete it but I too,
but I don't know if this will cause an issue. I prefer to be better safe than
sorry and unchecked it and its working fine now.

  • Limit email downloads while roaming?

    Hello
When I am roaming I would like to limit my email downloads, to just download headers, or just the first 5k, like I used to be able on my Treo. Even being able to set "no attachments" or "no images" would be great.
Right now I'm finding my email charges while roaming are huge, because I get a lot of email that really isn't crucial, but I have to download it all in order to see the messages that are.
    How would I enable this?
    Thanks

Here is what I have noticed with attachements.
I can test and send an attachment to myself from PC to iPhone accuont that it is checking.
Open Mail App. It checks and says connecting...etc. I see messages show up.
    Get the Ding.
Shortly after that the paperclip will show I got one with an attachment.
But then the progress at the bottom goes away. However, if I don't go into that mail message and just wait. The progress indicator at the top will start and will process and process and process. Once that if finally done. If I open the message. The attachment will be there already downloaded. Only if one goes into a mail message around the time it arrives (before it had time to download) have I seen it say attachment is there but not downloaded (or at times it will take time and process and download on open).
I have just found (from my experience) that if you don't go right into email when an email with an attachement arrives and let it sit it will eventually be there when you do go check.
Now this also happens when I don't open the mail app at all. As I described in one of my earlier posts. I listen to music/podcasts on FM transmitter in my car. I get the now and then interference for txt, grabbing new cell etc. When new email arrives (I don't seem to get interference with just checking...odd) but when new email arrives I hear the itnerference (longer than txt interference) then it stops, I get a ding. But I will leave it there as I don't need to be reading email while driving. But if an attachement was included, then it will start to process again (long time with interference...could be minutes if big attachment especially while moving and jumping towers). I have had to pause playback as it is just unbearable. I have at times gotten fed up knowing it was a huge file that I can get later and gone and turned of my email after having gone into mail to press and hold home button to force quit it.
All my accounts I check are POP.

  • Mail 7.0 - limit email download

I want to add an IMAP-account to Mail. Since I've used this account for many years, it contains thousands of emails and several archive folders, and I really don't want to fill up my SSD with that.
There used to be a "Don't keep copies of any messages" checkbox in Mail's account preferences, but this option was removed in OS X 10.9. There's also no way to limit synchronization to a certain time frame or specific folders.
I am aware I can exclude attachements from being downloaded, but still it's a lot of data.
The same problem exists in iOS 7: You cannot limit the email download to a certain time frame as in iOS 6.
(This actually means I cannot use Mail on my iPhone or sync Mail with iCloud if I don't want to fill up a big part of my phone/cloud space with email data)
Does anybody have solution for this, or an explanation for the removal of these features?

    Found this:
I did discover that, if I drag the message into a local folder in the "On My Mac" section of Mail, then I can remove the attachment.
