Disabling auto-complete in a single column or cell

Dear All, I find the auto-complete feature in Numbers to be both time-saving but also dangerously stupid. Why should the default option be that when only one auto-complete entry is available, continuing to type your entry and pressing the return key automatically selects that entry? I would like to be able to turn off the auto-complete for a single column, but not for the rest, in which it works very well. So far I have not found any way to do this. It seems logical enough; we ought to be able to control which columns offer the auto-complete function and which don't.

It would be fine if a modifier key was able to disable the feature 'locally'.
Perhaps Control-Return would work
Control-Return is not a modifier key, it is an entry.
I was thinking to the ability to press a modifier key when entering the first character in the cell. Pressing this key would tell to the entry parser: don't use the auto-completion.
For my own use, I apply a drastic formula: the auto-completion feature is disabled.
You are satisfied with the delete feature.
I may understand that but the OP is not.
So I try to imagine a possible enhancement.
What I describe may help.
For me it changes nothing.
For you, it let you use the delete key.
For the OP it would give him a neat answer.

LDAP attribute for a per-user option:
    sunUCExtendedUserPrefs: corpDirAutoCompleteEnabled=true/false
Per-user preference (option), if present overrides the system-wide setting. So it does. Unfortunately there is no way for the end-user to change this setting via the default Convergence interface.
I've logged an RFE to have an option added however I still don't understand what the use-case is:

  • Re Numbers... I have a single column, 10 cells long. I want to number them 1 - 10. Advice w/be appreciated.

    re Numbers...
I have a single column, 10 cells long. I want to consecutive number the cells 1 thru 10. How do I do this?

There are a couple different ways:
    1) in cell A1 type "1", in cell A2 type "2", A3 type "3", ... cell A10 type "10":
    2) A1: "1", A2: "2"
this notation means in cell A1 enter the text between double quotes.  Then select cells A1 and A2, then grab (click and hold) on the little circle at the bottom right of the selection, and drag straight down to auto fill with increment
    3) enter the formula
    A1: "=row()"
select A1 and and fill down as need
    There are other ways too

  • I use firefox 3.6.6 on mac os 10.5.8. I want to disable auto complete for my gmail. How?

when i type something into the "subject" bar of my gmail, it auto-completes the form. this is a privacy issue for me. how do i disable this?

It is possible that there is a problem with the file that stores the "Saved Form" data.
Rename or delete formhistory.sqlite (plus formhistory.sqlite-journal and formhistory.sqlite.corrupt and formhistory.dat, if they exist) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case there is a problem with the file that stores the "Saved Form" data.
This will remove all saved form data, so you may want to rename formhistory.sqlite to formhistory.sqlite.sav or move the file to another folder in case you need to recover some saved data.

  • How do I disable auto complete in the Mail program?

I have to type e-mail in more than one language on my iPod Touch, and Mail's auto complete feature is causing me a lot of trouble. It's making ridiculous word suggestions and typing these words if I don't touch a teeny-tiny X in the auto complete tag. The X is so small that often as not my finger ends up confirming the suggestion, rather than deleting it.
For example, if I have to type the German word "kann" (which I very often have to, because it means "can"), the Mail program types in the name of the Indian language "Kannada", which I NEVER need.
One solution would be to switch the language settings before typing e-mails, but that takes too much time, and the iPod Touch doesn't have support for some of the languages I have to type.
How can I just disable that auto complete feature? I don't see it in the manual.

    Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Auto-Correction -> OFF.
But this is a global setting, not just for the Mail app.

  • Disabling auto-complete on Spark ComboBox

I want to disable the auto-completing of text entered into a ComboBox, but still have it match the text against items in the DropDownList. Is there any easy way to do this?

Simply create you new combobox class and override the findStringLoop function, it should always return -1 to prohibit the fincding of matching items (for autocomplete reasons).
    Code is the following:
                         * Disabel the autocomplete option on Spark Combobox
                        mx_internal override function findStringLoop(str:String, startIndex:int, stopIndex:int):Number
                             return -1;

  • Disable Auto-Complete

Is there a way to disable the auto-complete? I've looked through the setting and couldn't find anything related. This feature is pretty annoying.
Edit: Let me clarify... I mean the feature that shows a little popup next to words you are typing to suggest a word it thinks you are trying to type. It annoys me because when Im typing fast, I like to just hit space and go to my next word. If the auto-complete popped up just before I hit space, it forces its word over mine unless I hit the little close icon on the popup.

  • How to disable auto-complete in tables?

Neither in the Preferences, nor the "Edit"-menu, or even the "Table"-tab in the "Inspector" can I find a way to disable the auto-completion in tables [that automatically inserts the content from other table cells when I start typing].
The auto-completion is driving me nuts: I want to write the new cell content, and "tab" to the next cell, but I can't, because the auto-completion leaves something else than what I wrote in the cell when I tab out of it.
So how do I get rid of this mis-feature?

    Hi,
Recently I needed to use this feature, and after some research I found the answer.
    Just sharing the solution.
I am aware that the auto-complete is a browser setting. But is there a way to let APEX not save the items entered before? Write a javascript?
Because I have implemented Google suggest for a text field. Every time the suggestions pop up, the auto-complete items will also appear at the same time, which is very annoying.Put on your Page Item > Element > HTML Form Element Attributes : autocomplete="off"

  • How to disable auto-completing service request after completing last activity

How to disable standard rule, that change service request status to "Complete" when the last activity in this service request is completed?
    For SCSM 2012 R2

Perhaps you can use the "Closed" status as a way of indicating that your are completely finished with a service request? (This follows ITIL). It has the advantage of being an out-of-the-box feature and, by default, SR's have to be closed by
    a user.
Keep in mind, though, that closed service requests are groomed out of the CMDB (356 day retention time by default, i believe). But, they'll still be available for a few years in your data warehouse.
What is your business reason for this behavior? Console views? Custom reports?
If "Closed" doesn't cut it for you, you may want to consider extending the Server Request class with your own status property that you can use for whatever your requirements are.

  • Disable auto-complete but keep a dropdown list of suggestions

I'd like the behavior that if I type something into the awesome bar and press enter, I search for exactly what was typed, and nothing more. However, I like having the drop-down list of autocompletable suggestions to be selected explicitly be me, via the arrow keys.
Afaik, I can either disable or enable both.

hello BenFoppa, yes you can do this - enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.urlbar.autoFill'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.

  • Disabling auto complete after hitting spacebar

Another issue I'm finding with the update is when I try to edit anything with more then one word, as soon as I hit the space bar, the first alphabetic result that comes up gets filled in.  For example, if I want to change the artist name to "The Smashing Pumpkins," as soon as I press the spacebar after "The," it will automatically enter "The Art Of Noise" before I can even get to the next letter.  To get to the choice I want, I have to scroll and search for the name or title I wish to use.  It's very painstaking and time consuming.
Is anyone else having this issue and, if so, does anyone know how to disable it?

It is a bug. Start with say a leading X then remove it when you've typed everything else.
Or hold down shift as you right-click > Get Info for the old style dialog box.

  • How do I disable Autocomplete COMPLETELY without messing with other settings such as with the location bar? I still like to see websites there that I've been to, without typing it in every time, but just hate the autocomplete part.

Case: When I go to Tools - Options - Privacy then Location Bar options, there should be another option to where we can disable auto-complete from the Location Bar without messing with other settings. Example #1: I click "Nothing" and then I gotta type in the website I wanna go to every single time. Example #2: I click "History & Bookmarks" and then it auto-completes. Is there any other option just to disable Auto-Complete all together??

    Is inline autocomplete enabled?

  • How to turn off auto-complete in Keynote (tables) ?

Has anybody found a way to turn off (disable) auto-complete for cells in a table in Keynote ?
Occasionally I would prefer to work without the blinky yittery typing experience it creates.
It's not a live or death thing, but having an option to turn auto-complete off would make working with Keynote more pleasant.

    Stefan,
For reasons unknown to me and beyond my ability to guess, KN lacks control of that feature. You could build your table in either Pages or Numbers, where autocompletion can but disabled in the General Preference Pane, and paste it into KN.
