Disabling automount of 2nd local hd-partition?

Hello!
This question is regarding a MacBook Core Duo running Leopard (10.5.8) - not the G4 mentioned in sig-line.
I have several partitions on my internal hard drive (currently 2 versions Mac OS and bootcamp for multi-boot purposes).
For several reasons I would like to prevent the second partition (it's MacHFS+ journaled and holds currently Snow Leopard, but this may change) from mounting when I am booting from the first (Leopard) partition, as I do usually.
Please forgive me. I have only very little knowledge of BSD but am brave to mess with the terminal, as long I got some idea what I am doing.
(Under System 7 this was merely a click on a check-button "Automount" in disk utility. But since they abandoned the original Macintosh operating system for the recent Mach-BSD-Quartz combo I went from mature, well informed user to dummy. Not pleasant. Sorry, just had to express my strong feelings.)
Possible solutions:
I have read about editing a file fstab in /etc. However most references about this solution is from earlier system versions (10.2-10.4.x).
Is this approach still the preferred way to prevent mounting of partitions of local disks?
However: A good reference to or an actual walkthrough for BSD-dummies is very welcome.
(PS: I also read about a login-scipt which unmounted the already mounted 2nd partition. This is not very elegant, but may do its job. So more info about this solution is also welcome).
Thank you for any help!
Regards,
A.

  • Parallel currency 2nd local currency issue

    Good morning everyone,
I am handling and issue wherein I am finding a difference in the FS10N GL line items.
    Background-
    1. Doc currency, 1st local currency and 2nd Local currency are the same i.e USD.
    2. When I see any GL account in FS10N I dont see any issues but for the GR/IR GLs.
It was seen when F.19 was run while analysing GR/IR clearing accounts.
I have 3 GLs that I am investifgating-
    GR/IR exp offset oth- P& L type
    GR/IR -analysis adj - Other  -B/S type
    Vendor control -Other - P& L type
All the above mentioned are GR/IR relevant accounts.
Need help On?-  Inspite of the Doc currency, 1st local and 2nd local currency being USD; the 2nd local currency shows a different value for some line items.
Although Doc and 1st local currency are always same.

    Hi Madhu,
I did not yet close the Defect but had to raise a query with SAP about the same.
I do not really know the symptoms of your issue yet.
What I have done is -I got the Business run F.13 for all old uncleared stock for all previous years that do not make sense to be still available uncleared in the system.
Then get the open items identified by the Business so that we can decide if we can clear the unclearable open items that we encounter after running F.13 and use MR11 this time but with careful selection and approval.
Once the available open items are in manageable numbers the performance of F.19 will increase.
Also, you may think about implementing 2 notes after checking if they are already there in your system via transaction SNOTE-
    1058971 and 1233775.
If you still have queries upon this, do let me know and I shall try to cater better understanding upon the same.

  • Avoid posting of realized exchange rate differences in 2nd local currency

    Dear SAP fans,
The situation here in our company is that a company code is set up with NZD as 1st and EUR as 2nd local currency (currency type 30 "Group currency" for EC-CS consolidation).
Therefore, all postings (and balances) are also translated and saved in EUR (with the current exchange rate).
We now have an open item managed G/L account for prepaid expenses, which is used to collect postings which are then cleared later. It's however no payable/receivable account for vendors/customers. Therefore, it doesn't make sense to post realized exchange rate differences when clearing this account. This is however what SAP wants to do when we try to clear it.
For example, if I post today 100 NZD and two months later again 100 NZD to this account. If the NZD vs. EUR exchange rate changed in the meantime, then SAP won't let me clear this account without posting realized exchange rate differences, which makes however no sense.
Does anyone of you meet this problem before? Could you please give me a hint?
I thought about setting the "Only balances in local currency" indicator in the G/L account master but this helps only for differences between local and document currency (and not for differences in 1st and 2nd local currency).
    Any help is highly appreciated!
    Thanks and best regards,
    Peter

    Dear Padma,
Thanks for your answer. The customizing activities you mentioned are already set up in the system. This is not our problem.
The problem is however, that we don't want SAP to post automatically realized exchange rate differences between 1st and 2nd local currency as this doesn't make sense in this business case.
It's about an open item managed G/L account which is used to collect posting which are later cleared. It's not a payable/receivable account for customers/vendors where the posting of realized exchange rate differences makes sense.
We've thought about several solution which unfortunately all didn't help us:
    - Don't setup realized exchange rate differences accounts or set them up only for group currency (in OB09)
    - Set indicator "Only balances in local currency" in G/L master data

  • Why we should give currency type 30 in 2nd local currency ?

    Hi,
why we should give currency type 30  2nd local currency in Define Currencies of Leading Ledger. Here 30 indicates EUR only. I want to give USD as 2nd local currency.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Gangaraju

Group currency is unique at client level, i.e. this is same for all company codes.
    go to scc4
Check the currency of your client.
This currency comes by default for group currency and you can't give as your own.
If you have any requirement, then you can give it as third local currency.
Also remember third local currency you have to maintain at first country level.

  • Can't create 2nd local currency

I would like to add 2nd local currency of leading currency.
But the system show the error message as below.
The currency type for an additional local currency cannot be changed for company code , since documents were already posted in this company code.
What can I do that I can add 2nd local currency of leading currency?

    Hi,
You cant change the the second local currency once you start the production entry in the system. i.e. if transaction data exist in the system it is not possible to change it.
If that is must for you then contact SAP for that. as it is required to updated the old document which are already posted in the system will 2 local currency

    Hello,
We have maintained 2nd local Currency as Hard currency 40, we want to
remove that, we have removed and tested (in test client) don't see any
    issue with that.
We can switch off/on on 2nd local currency (hard currency) at any point

Before doing the changes in production system we want to make sure that there will be no other impact.
If you have done before can you please suggest on this.

  • Disable Automount

We are using Oracle 10g RAC in Window 2003 environment. During the installation, we enable automount according to the installation manual and install the RAC (Two node) on a SAN storage. We use this oracle rac as a disaster backup so after the installation, we would like to stop all oracle and rac service and dismount from the SAN disk. Given that the server need to be started without mounting the SAN disk, could we simple disable automount and reboot ? Any other way recommended ? Thanks !!

This server is mainly for disaster recovery. We have another set of server that is active and running. The SAN disk will be available only on DR situation. Therefore, after the installation, we would set all oracle service to manual and restart. After the restart, there should be no oracle process running. However, we have to make sure that the SAN disk are not mount. Let say, E, F, G are the ocr, vote, and data disk, we would like to make it E, F, G not exist in the system unless in DR situation. Any advise ?

ADD PARTITION시 NEW LOCAL INDEX PARTITION에 관하여
    ==================================================
(※ Oracle Partitioning Option은 8~10g Standard Edition에서는 지원하지 않는다.)
    개 요
    =======
    (ALTER TABLE SPLIT PARTITION도 마찬가지)
new index partition의 이름은 new table partition과 같은 이름이 할당되고,

After dropping a partition, the row in DBA_PART_INDEXES still exists, so I'm unsure why it does not appear on your system. The index however does not appear in the DBA_INDEXES view before or after the drop partition:
    for example
    SQL> select owner, index_name from dba_part_indexes where
      2  index_name = 'YEAR_IDX';
    OWNER                          INDEX_NAME
    APPS                           YEAR_IDX

    Table altered.
    SQL> select owner, index_name from dba_part_indexes where

    OWNER                          INDEX_NAME

  • Terminal Command to Re-Mount an Unmounted Local Disk Partition?

    Hello,
Does anyone know a terminal command (or applescript command) to re-mount an unmounted local disk partition? I know it can be done using the DiskUtility, but I would like to do it from the Terminal without launching another program.

    Hi Tom,
AppleScript will execute anything that you can exectute from the command line that isn't interactive but it won't execute it in the same way. By that I mean that the environment will be more vanilla. In this case the problem is that the path is rather basic. All you have to do is to use an absolute path to the script and it should work. Apple has a pretty good reference for the mechanism, Technical Note TN2065: do shell script in AppleScript.
Is wakeonlan basically the same thing as waking upon receipt of a "magic packet"? I think you can easily make Mac OS X do that by itself. Just open System Preferences and the "Options" tab of the "Energy Saver" pane. Check the checkbox beside "Wake for Ethernet network administrator access".

  • 2nd Solaris 8 partition

I would like to use a 2nd partition on my disk for another Solaris patition. All the documentation seems to assume that there will be only one Solaris patition on a single disk with maybe another partition being used for windows or some other os. That's what I have now but I have acquired second (they are removable) disk for windows and now want to use the full disk for Solaris without a reload.
Can I do this? How would I do this?

I haven't seen any Partition Manager for Solaris x86, specially for Solaris 10 which has changed its partition number because it used to be equal to Linux Swap File, I've tryied Partition Manager, Partition Magic and none seems to works, if somebody knows about a partition manager that detects Solaris partition let us know

  • Disable Privacy Settings for Local Application

    Hi,
Is there a configuration / policy file that can be used on a
user's local machine to disable the privacy settings dialog that
pops up asking "Allow / Deny" for a Microphone?
Our application is distributed on the client from an
installer that must be run with administrative rights, I need to
find a way to disable this from showing since the user is
implicitly allowing us access to their microphone; after all the
software is developed specifically for audio recording.
    Thank you,
    - Justin

    Chris,
We learned that the Privacy tab (in Settings) can be found under the Flash plug-in for Firefox, but only if Firefox is running under an administrator.
Unfortunately, we haven't had much luck with the mms.cfg file. The following was used in the mms.cfg file (placed in both the %WINDIR%\SysWow64\Macromed\Flash and %WINDIR%\System32\Macromed\Flash” directories):
    AVHardwareDisable = 0
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = local
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = 127.0.0.1
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = localhost
    AutoUpdateDisable = 1
The AVHardwareEnabledDomain settings seem to be getting ignored regardless of whether the user is a standard user or an administrator. I also checked to make sure it wasn't just a local problem by going to a website that uses a microphone (http://www.testden.com/accent-reduction/systemcheck.htm). Adding the requested domain to the list (AVHardwareEnabledDomain = train.act360.com) still didn't bypass the allow/deny dialog box.
We know that the mms.cfg file is being read because setting "AVHardwareDisable = 1" will result in no prompt and that section being greyed out in Global Settings. I saw a post that suggested this setting was required to even make the AVHardwareEnabledDomain work, but it seems to block the local entirely and still brings up the dialog query on the internet site.
    Thanks,
    Torrey

  • Cryptsetup - how to disable automounting during boot

    Hi,
I have encrypted partition on usb key, works fine, but when computer boots it complaint that it cannot mount the USB stick (not there usually).
How can I disable this attempt?
    My setup:
    /etc/fstab:
    /dev/mapper/usb-private      /mnt/usb-private  ext2    user,noauto       0       0
    /etc/crypttab:
    /dev/mapper/usb-private /dev/disk/by-uuid/ae5.........49b /root/keyfile luks
Notice, I have noauto in fstab, but there must be other rule that attempts to mount the drive.
Problem is not critical, PC goes on with boot without waiting, but I would like to fix it anyway.
    Regards

In your /etc/crypttab, I don't believe you need to prepend the target name with the full path.
    So instead of this:
    /dev/mapper/usb-private /dev/disk/by-uuid/ae5.........49b /root/keyfile luks
    Use this:
    usb-private /dev/disk/by-uuid/ae5.........49b /root/keyfile luks
Notice there is no /dev/mapper/ in the target name anymore. Not entirely sure this will solve your problem, but it can't hurt to try. I was going to mention the "noauto" option, yet you're already using it.
