Disabling function keys

Hi friends,
Is there any way to disable all the function keys in my forms 10g application?
Regards
Jeneesh

Function keys allow also to suppress a record in a block (DELETE_RECORD) or to create a new one (INSERT_RECORD), or to change the current record (KEY-NXTREC, KEY-PRVREC) for example. If you deactive every function keys, the end user will not be able to change the current record with the keyboard.

  • Disable Function Key F3 in Internet Explorer

    I would like to disable function keys F1 and F3 while playing
    my flash movie in internet explorer. I am using these keys within
    Flash to do some actions.
    I got the script working for Function Key F1 using the
    following script
    <script language="javascript">
    document.onhelp = function() {return(false);}
    window.onhelp = function() {return(false);}
    </script>
    But unable to make it to work for function key F3.
    Thanks in advance,
    Desmond

    Hi des_shun, I have workaround for this issue.
    First thing we have to do is disable keyboard event for F3 key on HTML document so that even if focus is on html document, default Search functionality will not popup. Next thing is, flash must contain KeyboardEvent listener for keyboard response. This is where we will keep our custom F3 functionality. This setting works well on Chrome & FireFox.
    Now IE thing.
    The prolem with IE is that if any one of F3, F5, F6,F7 & F11 key is pressed, when the focus is on flash movie it directly executes the default browser functions like searching, refreshing etc never allowing flash to execute its keyeventlistener. But if focus is on document body, then F3 and other keys work fine.
    Here is the catch.
    All we have to do is whenever focus is shifted to flash, we should revert that focus to document body.
    Here is how we can do this.
    Capture the MouseClick event in your flash movie. Then in this mouseclick event handler, call  javascript function to change focus to document again. Below is the sample code.
    //Flash Code
    stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,mClick);
    function mClick(event:MouseEvent)
              ExternalInterface.call("changeFocus");
    // Javascript Code
    <script type="text/javascript"</script>
              function changeFocus()
                             document.body.focus();
        </script>
    Thats it!

  • Disabling Function Keys in Select Applications

    Long ago in an OS far away, I knew how to disable the function keys so I could map them as I chose in my mappable apps. I know this was — at the time — a terminal command, but I just can't remember it. I would settle for knowing how to do that again, but what I would really like is the ability to either quickly turn on and off the Mac default uses for the function keys or, better yet, have it turn off in certain apps.
    I've tried the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys," button in the Keyboard & Mouse System Settings, but I don't see where that has any sort of effect. The reference there to the 'fn' key makes me think it's only for laptops. Do I have to restart the app or the computer? Will that do what I'm looking for?
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Martin

    yes, it does have an effect. it lets you use F-keys as regular keys and map them to what you want.
    The reference there to the 'fn' key makes me think it's only for laptops.
    no, this is for any keyboard that has a fn key. if you have it on your keyboard then you get that checkbox in keyboard system preferences. if you don't have it the checkbox won't even show up. when the box is checked you have to hold fn to get the functionality of the F-keys written on them. otherwise they act as regular keys that can be mapped to whatever you want. you can do this in system preferences->keyboard&mouse->keyboard shortcuts.

  • S440 - Disable Function Key Indicator Light

    S440 - Fn key swapped with Ctrl (set in bios) and function lock ON (now the Ctrl key + Esc).
    I really like it this way but that little yellow light on the Fn key is really annoying. Other than a bit of black electrical tape, is there anyway to kill that light? (while retaining function lock ON)
    I'm looking for registry tweaks rather than physically removing and killing the light.

    I have a ThinkPad T440s, and have the FnLock function enabled but the indicator (in the Fn button) remains OFF. And when I turn the FnLock fuction OFF the indicator remains ON. I think it's suppose to work in the opposite way.
    Also hate the possition of the FN and Ctrl keys, it would be muco better if they are used the other way around as in most of the computers and keybords. Hope they can improve that. If any one knows how to change it I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks

  • Querying problem - FRM-41009 :Function Keys not allowed.. DIFFERENT!!

    amazin place ..this is... learned a lot from this place when it comes to developing oracle forms.... just such a lot of support... the issue at hand... yes
    the problem im facing is when im querying in my form.. it keeps giving me the FRM-41009 error. however it does execute the query and even i can find records by entering a value, so it really doesnt affect the functionality of the system. but the problem is this, if i search for something non-existent, then the error gets displayed in its pretty little box smack in the middle of the screen.. ruins the entire thing... and then at the bottom i see the 'query didnt return anythin' message.
    im extending an existing system which is not documented and everything is all compiled and stuff and im using some of their libraries.
    im sure somewhere there is a little bit of code that is disabling function keys.. but i dont seem to understand why must that be affected by a little button on my control bar and basically i just need to get rid of the darned message..
    so is there a workaround this???
    experts of the forums .... HELP!!!
    cheers

    thanks for the quick response prashant and greg..
    it works now..
    ok.. but is it also possible to make an error/message to appear?
    for example now, my 'query didnt match anything' message is displayed at the bottom.. id like to have it come in a window in the middle of the screen

  • Disabling default function keys

    Hey everyone,
    Long time mac user, just got a new Imac. Can't figure this one out.
    On my new slim keyboard, F12 turns my audio all the way up. How can I bypass this? In Dreamweaver F12 is the "preview in browser" shortcut and that is a bigger priority to me than the volume control. I tried using the system prefs to assign F13 to this function. It shows up in the Dreamweaver menu, but it doesn't work. Any help is appreciated.

    Yup - go to Keyboard & Mouse, but NOT to the Keyboard Shortcuts tab. Use the Keyboard tab instead. Check the "Use all F1... etc as standard function keys" so you get the F keys to ignore their special functions and become available for other assignments.
    As the pref pane notes, pressing the Fn key and an F key will then let you get to the special functions of those keys.
    What it doesn't note is that Fn will reverse the checkbox setting. So, you can leave it unchecked and the Fn key + F key will release the F keys from their printed functions and make them available for other uses.
    Of course, with QuicKeys, you'll want "empty" F keys to start with, so you'll want the box checked. (this is something we've been dealing with on laptops for awhile, it's only an issue for more users now that the newest standard keyboards behave this way.)

  • All standard function keys disabled, brightness now on f14 f15, why?

    Nope, selecting "Use all f1, f2, etc" in system preferences doesn't turn them back on. This is a working brand new full sized mac keyboard that my cats walked on and triggered this mystery. I never use expose or spaces so those are turned off, now... where the heck are my standard function keys, and why is f14 and f15 triggering brightness?
    Apparently there is no Mac Keyboard community so here I am.

    Sadly no, but none of the Mac options for VBA are useable in my opinion, I have stripped VBA (wherever possible) and don't use it, if I have to open a spreadsheet using VBA I have a cheap little Dell laptop and a copy of Office 2007, thankfully I rarely need them.
    Correction: Open Office 3.0 and greater does include VBA, but you will have to rewrite the Macros from Excel.

  • Disable the need of the function key when using the control key

    I'm often using the F1-12 keys when using an IDE for developing. Those IDE's use the CTR+F1-12 shortcuts quite a bit and it's always needed to use FN+CTR+F1-12 which is ridiculous and redundant. Is there a way to keep using the functions assigned to F1-12 (Adjust volume, brightness...) without pressing the function key and be able of using CTR or ALT +F1-12 without the need of pressing the function key?

    According to the system help text it is possible. And for me it works as described in the help text on my MacBook Pro.
    But on my  Mac Pro (late 2013) the relevant control (“Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys”) is missing form System Preferences >> Keyboard >> Keyboard.
    From the help text for the topic "Use keyboard function keys:"
    If you frequently use the alternate function of a function key, you can switch the keyboard so that the function keys perform the alternate function without your pressing Fn. You then hold down Fn to use a function key’s original hardware control function. If your keyboard doesn’t have an Fn key, try holding down the Control key.
    Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Keyboard.
    Open Keyboard preferences
    Select the “Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys” checkbox.

  • Function keys not working in XP under Boot Camp

    I have a slight problem with Boot Camp with XP.
    When I first installed it long ago, I recall there was a Boot Camp icon in the Windows tool bar, and the function keys could be used to change the volume, brightness, and keyboard backlight. Now, there isn't, and they don't.
    I've run 'repair' from the Leopard DVD, but still the functionality hasn't returned. This is particularly irritating within a game because I can't even change the volume without quitting to desktop.
    Note that the Boot Camp partition is also used by Parallels, just in case that's a factor. Other than that, I can't think what it was I might have done to have caused whatever Boot Camp installed to facilitate this functionality, be removed/disabled.
    Any ideas how I can repair it without starting again from scratch?

    I'm having similar issues with no real luck. The only 'solution' I've found is to manually start the KbdMgr.exe program each and everytime I turn on Windows. The program is in the Bootcamp folder, and I put a shortcut on my desktop.
    KbdMgr is set to start with Windows, but it doesn't. I've even done a repair install of Windows, removed and reinstalled Bootcamp drivers with no success. I can't find an actual solution anywhere, just workarounds.
