Disabling Genius

Is there anyway to disable Genius altogether on my iPod? Specifically, I want to turn off the function that activates Genius when the iPod gets shaken. (I listen to it in my car, and have to tip it forward into the cup holder while I drive, and it keeps mistaking it for shaking it and activating Genius when I really don't want it to.)

Hmm. Ok. I'm sorry, I don't understand how shaking the iPod is activating Genius. I'm a bit confused, so just bear with me. How about turning the *Shake to shuffle* feature off in your iPod's settings.

Disabling genius and "ghost songs"

Okay, so this strange series of problems begun last night when I tried to add a new CD to my iTunes library (on windows) and subsequently to my ipod 4th gen. I should also note that this is the first time I have transferred data to my iPod since activating genius on my iTunes software. What happened is I clicked and dragged the new album into the "my ipod" playlist (I manually manage music). Looking at the status bar in iTunes i saw that it was transferring many songs not on the album, which i hadn't even interacted with recently. Upon looking back in my ipod I saw what I can only describe as "ghost songs" songs that i had previously deleted from my iPod, that had reappeared, but were unplayable, greyed out, and had no album art. Many of the "living" albums on my ipod had spontaneously lost album art as well. I am unable to delete the ghost songs as swiping sideways provides no delete option. In an attempt to fix the album art issues, i tried deleting music from my iPod and readding it from iTunes. However, iTunes is refusing to transfer the data, i have been able to fix this by deleting the music from my iTunes library and re-adding it, but it still doesn't display artwork. Also the genius icon has been added in between the shuffle and loop buttons in the player view and it has also deleted all of my previously existing playlists.
Please, all i want to do is get my playlists back if possible, disable genius, and remove the ghost songs. Getting album art back would also be nice.

This is still not fixed in iTunes 9.01

How to Disable Genius in iTunes (with iTunes Match ON)

So i just got iTunes Match, but noticed Genius turned itself back on (i've always had it disabled, it's so annoying). I also notice that now iTunes takes forever to load (i have a SSD, and it used to instantly pop up). If i delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file (which is over 50 megs large) iTunes pops right up instantly like it did before, but then as soon as it does it takes about 30 seconds or so to "gathering information about your iTunes library".
So how do i disable Genius like it used to be? I want to keep iTunes Match on, i just don't want Genius or any of it's useless mixes or playlists or sluggishly large crap files.
For reference, I'm running the latest version of iTunes (10.6.3.25)

Is there a way to disable genius on Apple TV?

I am looking for a way to turn off genius on my 3rd generation Apple TV. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this. Am I missing something? In case someone wants to know why I want to turn it off, it's because I do. Yes, I could "just not use it", but I would like the menu choice to go away, and I'm not a big fan of genius anyway because my tastes are so eclectic, the suggestions are awful. So I ask again. Is there a way to disable genius on my 3rd generation Apple TV?

How Do You Disable Genius Data Syncing to iOS Devices?

- I''m using iTunes 10.7, iPad 2 and iPhone 4 with iOS 6.1.3, mid-2010 iMac with 10.8.2.
- I have iTunes Match tuned OFF
- I back up to the computer, not iCloud
- On the iTunes Summary tab, I have the "Sync only with checked songs and videos" selected
- On the Music tab I have the main Genius Mixes checkbox unchecked, and no mixes under that item checked
- I have Genius turned ON in my main iTunes
Every time I Sync either the iPhone or the iPad, the last thing it does is sync Genius data to the iOS device. Since my main iTunes library is fairlt large (over 12,000 songs), my main library Genius data changes a lot of songs sometime a few thousand if I haven't started iTunes on for a while on the computer. The Genius data sync takes a long time, and sometimes can add 10 minutes or more to an iOS device sync.
I don't understand why it's even sending Genius data to the iPad or iPhone. There are are no Genius playlists on either the iPAd or the iPhone when I open iTunes on them and look at Playlists.

Is there a way to totally disable Genius on iTunes 11?

I don't use Genius Mixes and I am not interested by its music, apps and movie suggestions ; and it takes too much processing power and time to gather information about my library and deliver the results. So really, on my Windows machine it is very much unused, unwanted and unloved.
Is there any way to get definitely rid of it?

Store menu -> Turn Off Genius. If you don't see the menus, press Control-B.

How can I completely disable Genius from iTunes (version 11)?

Whenever I go into the "Playlists" tab in iTunes, after a couple of seconds it'll automatically jump to the "Genius" playlist and tries to get me to turn on Genius (which I have nooo interest in).
Its INSANELY annoying, right as I'm about to click on a song I want to play, it switches to the Genius page.
How can I stop this? Genius is NOT turned on, so I can't turn it off.

You can't permanently delete any items from your purchase history, all you can do is hide them so that they don't show in the Purchased links for redownloading.

FWIW, I just got off the phone with Apple technical support about this. I use Genuis for creating playlists, so I don't want to disable it, but Apple support confirmed that there is no way to avoid syncing Genius data without disabling Genius altogether. I'd read somewhere else that subscribing to iTunes Match might allow you to avoid this, but that is NOT the case, as I've confirmed, and Apple support has confirmed. For me, it routinely syncs thousands genius of items, so I have to allow a lot of time for my manual syncs.

I'm getting a "genius is unavailable for this song" message on recent albums, after genius is updated, feels wrong!?

When I try to create a genius playlist from some of my most recently bought music I get the message "Genius is not available for this song" (righ click > Start Genius to cerate the playlist).
I'm guessing that for music that has only just been released or is obscure genius might not be able to start a playlist, but I'm still getting this message on some popular albums that have been out for some months now.
These are the albums I've bought over the last six months that I can't make Genius playlists from. I don't really follow the charts but I'm pretty sure the Adele, Cut Copy and Mark Ronson albums have sold enough copies by now that I'd expect them to show up in Genius results.

I've tried updating genius, disabling genius and the reenabling it. Disabling genius, deleting the file "iTunes Libary Genius.itdb" then reenabling it. All my other results come back but these albums still don't have Genius working.
All but one album were bought from the iTunes store, most in the New Zealand store, some from the UK store (I recently moved), the other album was bought from another MP3 store but is available on iTunes.
My music libary in iTunes is currently 108GB / 10,300 tracks, a mixture of songs bought from iTunes and MP3s ripped from my CD collection. I'm using the latest version of iTunes (10.2.1) on the latest verison of Snow Leopard on a 2010 iMac. I sync the Mac with my iPhone, iPad and Apple TV (old generation).
If anybody can help explain why these songs don't allow me to create a genius playlist from them I'd really appreciate it.

I don't have any of those tracks in my library so I can't tell you that any of them work for me. If Genius works overall then it's probably a matter of sampling a critical mass of playlists that already contain those songs, for it then to be able to suggest suitable "mixes". I've not tried to get to grips with the mechanism behind Genius but I'd guess it works something along these lines. Your library gets inspected and some kind of summary gets uploaded to a server which integrates data from lots of users, and then gives you some back. Perhaps the process just does take time.

Genius is evil - madly changing track info in the background

I think I've figured out why iTunes, starting in version 8, has been behaving strangely. It's Genius.
I started out noticing that when double-clicked a song in the list view to play that it would jump to the end of that album's list. This drove me nuts. If I double-clicked each song, it would do this for each and then i could play the album how I wanted. I thought maybe it was tinkering with the track number info but couldn't find anything different.
Then I started playing songs that I didn't have album, album artist, or composer information for and saw that once I played it, iTunes immediately updated to show me this information filled in. Now I was mad, b/c in a lot of instances the album information was some screwy greatest hits or tribute album. It finally dawned on me when I played a song and saw a foreign language soundtrack show up in the album field. Genius was filling in my missing information with information from how other users have classified that track. Yikes!
So I've disabled Genius, but the damage is done as soon as Genius does that analysis of your library.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm going to wipe my library and reimport everything, hoping that iTunes hasn't written the changes to the tag but only in the library. I wish Genius behaved more intelligently...
Can someone confirm that Genius is changing/adding track info where it perceives mine is missing or incorrect?

I had the same problem! I realized it today and googled my problem. I guess Zune is just really dumb at figuring out song information. I noticed it today when I had 42 new Rihanna tracks in my library. Apparently Zune took several songs that had nothing from Track 1 (etc), Unknown Artist and Album as its song information and changed it to some random album by Rihanna and did the tags completely excluding the Tracks. I have NO idea how it came to that conclusion as the songs were actually Soca music from Trinidad! FAR from Rihanna!!
Other than that, sadly, I like Zune software better than iTunes on my Vista machine. The visualizer is the part that gets me. It's great for just playing music and I have something better to look at than just some seizer causing fullscreen lines. I have dual monitors and the full screen visualizer acts as if its a background so its sexii

Actually I was wrong ... I mistaked being able to say "play rock music" for genius.
You can't say "play similar songs" it will say genius is not available.

How do I erase genius playlist from iPhone?

Since I upgraded my IPhone to iOS7, several Genius Playlists randomly appeared on my device. I have ITunes match off. I have disabled Genius on ITunes, and synced my device without success. There are 13 empty playlist on my iPhone and I just wish to erase them. How can I do this so that next time I sync the devices, the wont appear again?

I too have exactly 13 empty Genius playlists above my regular playlists. It does not give the option to delete them. I just want to get rid of the 12 duplicates.

Deleting Genius in iTunes

Periodically, when I open iTunes on my Win7 computer it feels a need to "Sync" the Genius data to my devices (iPhones/iPad). I have over 1,500 songs on my devices, and the sync-Genius data takes some time to complete. I really don't want to wait that long for the sync to complete, I really don't use the Genius anyway. Is there a way to delete/disable Genius, so I don't have to wait to do whatever I want to do in iTunes?

1st gen showing genius mix covers for regular albums in cover flow

This problem recently happened. On my cover flow for albums, the covers for genius mixes are displayed for some albums, even though they have the correct album art in itunes. By genius mix covers i mean like the four squares with a different album in them. I don't understand. I already turned off genius thinking it had something to do with it but it's still happening. It started with only two albums but now it's spreading like a virus.

I have the same problem. The wrong art only shows up for me when I'm on the iPod in Cover Flow. On iTunes Cover Flow the artwork is right. I tried deleting the album art for one such album, but the Genius Mix album still shows up on the iPod Cover Flow. I disabled Genius, and it did not fix it. I'm now about to restore my iPod and re-sync it to see if that solves it.
