Disabling Isolation Mode in CS3

Is this possible? I skipped over CS2 (I guess this "feature" was introduced in CS2?) only to discover that Illustrator CS3 goes 31 flavors of wacky whenever I try to update text objects using the group select (filled arrow) pointer...
I guess it's not that big of a deal when you only have a couple of text objects to update, but when you are trying to update a whole bunch of them, it turns into a nightmare of clicking and swearing. It appears I now have to switch tools each and every time and then click on something else each time it enters (what I've come to think of as) DEMON Mode. The screen goes all gray and there's no escape!!!
It worked perfectly fine before, why did they do this??? Is there any way to disable it?
I know you can still update text without entering this crazy isolation mode with the text edit tool, it's just such PITA 'cause you have to zoom way in or Illustrator misses the text you're aiming at and starts a new text object. It wasn't broke...why did they "fix" it?
Is there no escape from Demon Mode?

  • Disable dim effect in Isolation Mode???

Groups are an excellent way to design encapsulated objects, but when editing color in Isolation Mode all other groups/layers are desaturated which makes it impossible to edit color in respect to the entire illustration.
I'd expect a way to disable the dimming effect somewhere in a menu option or preference setting.  Anyone know?

There's a valid case for this I think.  Having isolation mode without dimming would be useful for editing the colours of objects which are only partly obscured by foreground objects but which for various reasons may have their entire selectable region covered.  For example you might have background stripes on a view and want to custom colour them with all of the foreground present (my current dilemma).
Of course you can use the layers panel but isolation would be more convenient.  Locking is an option too of course but I have certain objects I lock all the time and manually locking everything would obscure my normal working state when I go to remove the temporary locks.  Isolation mode solves this more elegantly.
I also find when editing shapes, I often wish to be able to see them in their proper colour context too.
Maybe what's needed is a addition to the layers panel:  A "solo" mode.

  • Chromecast - Does airport express run in isolation mode?

    Hi -
I just bought a Chromecast and it's not working.  One of the troubleshooting questions is:
"If you have a dual band router, ensure that it is not in isolation mode. This may require a small change in your Wi-Fi router settings. "
My Airport Express (2013 model) is a dual band router.
    http://www.apple.com/airport-express/specs/
The Apple specs at the link above dont tell me any more about isolation mode - at least not in any language I understand.
I would appreciate anyone with experience with Chromecast to pass on some information on this thread.
    Thanks in advance.

For the AirPorts, the Guest Network is disabled by default. You would enable it using the AirPort Utility, as follows:
AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Edit > Wireless tab > Enable Guest Network
Unless you are planning on supporting guest wireless clients, this should remain disabled. When enabled, the overall available wireless bandwidth must be shared thus potentially impacting performance. A Guest Network does not require a user to know a password. This is similar to Wi-Fi networks provided in coffee shops and is known as a "open" network.

  • PS CC Isolation mode incredibly annoying.

Please remove the isolation mode in PS CC. Or make it possible to disable it. Or at the very least make a shortcut to toggle it or leave it. This is confusing, slow, and horribly ineffective. Who thought this was a good idea has some weird ideas about interface design. This just slows my workflow to a crawl.
    Thank you.

It's a bug that was introduced with some changes we made under the hood. We opted to spend our time fixing the functional bugs that were also introduced, and this one didn't make the cut for this release since it's cosmetic and able to be turned off with a setting. It's in our bug database, though, so at least it's on our radar.
As for full keyboard access, the info about it not being hooked up in Photoshop was passed along to me by a developer. Using the TIFF Options dialog as an example, I am not seeing any difference in tabbing behavior no matter which option I use for the Full Keyboard Access setting. There might be some other setting we have set differently. Do you have any other keyboard settings set to non-defaults?

  • Acrobat Reader X Disable Protection mode

    Hi All,
i need some help with this freaky Acrobat Reader X version.
We have currently  ~1000 computers with different old versions of AR (form 6 to 9)
We need to upgrade to 10.0.1 version all PC's
Will use SCCM for distributing the package.
OK... everything here seems good but ... a lot of problems and erros appear.
First we've installed on test group of 10 pc's the AR 10.0.0
all users start complainig that they can't open the pdf's from our file servers.
Solution - bring the patch 10.0.1
After that all users start complaining that they can't print - Windows Error - Acrobat need to be closed !
    Solution - Protection mode disabled.
    My questions :
    1. How can I distribute both the Package of Acrobat and the update together with SCCM
All my tries and reaings failed !!!
i've try different methods and no success
    msiexec /i /q \\server\d$\Workstation Baseline\AcrobatReaderX\AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst" PATCH=\\server\d$\Workstation Baseline\AcrobatReaderX\adbeRdrUpd1001_Tier1.msp
this do not work for me This is in SCCM program
    2. How can i disable through Adobe Wizard the Protection Mode ?
I know how to do it manually but is not acceptable this way - i can't communicate with 1000 users to do this manually
I know how to disable it from registry with GPO , but i can't disable it before installation, also i can't disable it on all PC's after installation, because it will take several days to complete for all pc's and this "hole" of some days will stop the work of our end-users.
Any fresh ideia is wellcome. Also any help
    Thanks

    hey,
had similar issues with protection mode.
found we can do it 2 ways, 1. via registry entry, or 2. via an ADM.
sorry cannot remember the referenced posts for the fixes below...
we use the adm so that users cannot change it, and so that updates dont reset it.
note that the adm has only a few settings, and i dont know the code for any other settings.
    1. - REG method:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\FeatureLockDown]
    "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000
REM: Above line Disables Protected Mode on startup
    2. - ADM Template method
please note, just copy and paste into a text file and rename as .adm.
remember that on the last section of the code below, change the "YOUR HEADER HERE" bit to what you want to use to find it in the GPO manager once you add the template.

  • Iview Isolation Modes Question

I have some strange situation here. I have a page that contains one embedded iView and 3 isolated url iViews.
When I try to use client side eventing to communicate between two url iViews. Said : URL Iview "1" raiseEvent "A" , and only URL Iview B subscribe to Event "A", but the problem is - somehow the embedded iView react on Event "A" too, although I never subscribe to "Event A".
Thanks for your suggestion on my problem in advance.
    Kent

You are totally make sense. My initial design is to let the input field iView to be embedded, and the else of the data display iviews to be url.
I will work around the isolation modes, trying to make every iviews to be url.
    Thanks for your great suggestion.
I assigned full points to you.

  • Disable Protected Mode Reader 11

    All,
I have found articles on Adobe's website about disabling protected mode -
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown]
    "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000
    [HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11\Priviledged]
    "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000
With both these settings turned on when you start up adobe and view edit > preferences it displays protected mode as being disabled however if I open task manager then open adobe reader I can see 1 instance of AcroRD32.exe - when I then open a PDF file via file > open browser to a PDF file I can see another 2 instances of AcroRD32.exe inside task manager. I thought this behavior was down to PM being enabled as it would spawn multiple instances of this to ensure it runs in sandboxing mode? The problem I have is we use an application inhouse which whitelist's only approved .dll's and .exe's and because Reader continues to spawn multiple instances of Reader even with these registry settings enabled I continue to hit issues getting Reader to work with my whitelist application.
Is there a way that when you open Reader it will only ever open 1 instance of AcroRD32.exe or is the behavior I am seeing by design even with Protected Mode disabled?
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED] Disabling N mode: possible? (iwl4965)

Hey guys, I have an Intel 4965 802.11abgn wireless card.
I have been getting download speeds significantly lower than what I expect and what I get with Windows Vista on the same machine.
For example, with the easylist.com Arch mirror I usually get about around 1mbps on other computers. With this one, I get between 60-200kbps.
This happened in Vista as well, but I fixed the problem by disabling N mode in a device manager. I guess our router doesn't support it. So, my question is this: is there a way for me to disable N mode under Linux? It'd be great to get my regular download speeds back. Thanks!

    I did it!
    $ modprobe -r iwlagn
    $ modprobe iwlagn 11n_disable=1
Now I get up to nearly 2mbps from easynews, and download speeds everywhere else are soaring too. Thanks a million for the help, everyone!

  • Disable clamshell mode via Terminal

    Hi everyone.
Is there any way to disable "clamshell mode" and avoid my MacBook Pro waking up seconds after I close the lid?. I always use my MBP17 with a magic mouse, usb hub, external monitor and plugged magsafe but using both screens at the same time. I just would like to close the lid and enter sleep mode while I go away from my mac for five minutes without having to unmount drives, unplug magsafe and turn off mouse. It's crazy!!. I still can't believe there is no preference for that.
I know thats the wanted behaviour for using the external display with the macbook screen off but I just wanna send my mac to sleep for God sake!!
Thanks in advance and excuse my poor english.

Your English is much better than that of some native English speakers who post here.
Your MBP's waking up immediately after being closed, without your doing something to cause it, is *not a feature of clamshell mode.* In clamshell mode, the expected behavior is that the machine will sleep when the display is closed, and you will then wake it and bring the external display into operation *by pressing a key on the external keyboard.* If you don't do that, it stays asleep. So clamshell mode doesn't need to be disabled to stop the behavior that's annoying you, because that behavior has nothing to do with clamshell mode.
Instead, you need to determine which of the devices you are using with the MBP is interrupting sleep. This is nearly always caused by a USB device that doesn't understand sleep, and tries to communicate with the computer while it sleeps — which causes it to wake up. It may be your keyboard, your mouse, an external drive, a printer, scanner, ExpressCard device, Bluetooth cell phone, or even an SD card in the built-in card reader, if you have one. So first turn Bluetooth off and close the display to test for a change in behavior. If the MBP still wakes up a minute later, that wasn't the culprit. Disconnect your other peripheral devices one at a time, testing again after each disconnection, until you discover which device is responsible.

  • Turning off Isolation Mode feature?

Working with the german Version, therefore not sure if its called "Isolation Mode" in the english version too.
Problem is, that working under pressure an aditional klick on an object happens very fast. That always throws me into that useless Isolation Mode. To me this "feature" is of absolute NO use at all and I'd wish I could turn it off. Anybody with a clue to get rid of it?
    Manuel

You can also mark jesseham's answer as the correct answer it will be helpful to others
but as both prior posted suggested you might want to keep this on it is extremely helpful and working in groups can
speed up things as well so you really need it then keep in mind you can have groups within groups and this is helpful for isolating
    objects deep within a group.
Most important it protects the rest of the group(s) extremely useful.

  • Concise description of isolation modes

I am finding the documentation for ThinApp on isolation modes is a little confusing and seems a tad incomplete. I wanted to confirm on my understanding of isolation modes and fill in some gaps in my understanding as they relate to packages, the registry, and file folders.
Scope: Am I correct that all of the isolation modes (Full, Merged, and WriteCopy) can all be used in all of these places, and if not, which can be used where?
Package.ini - To set the defaults when not specified on the folder or registry key.
K_KEY.txt files* - For each registry key. Keys not specified default to ??? isolation, does it default to the package.ini setting?
##Attributes.ini files - For each folder inthe sandbox - Default to parent directory settings if not specified. Default to package.ini settings if not specified for top level folder?
Usage: Can you please confirm my understanding of each of the isolation modes and that they are applied the same way for both the registry and folders?
Full: Read and write from the sandbox only, do not access resources outside the virtual bubble for this item.
WriteCopy: Attempt reads from sandbox, but fall-back to the host machine if a key or folder doesn't exist. All writes go to the sandbox only.
Merged: Read from the sandbox if an entry is available, but fall-back to the host machine if a key or folder doesn't exist. No idea on the logic for writes.

    Hi JohnFx,
ThinApp virtualization can provide separation of host file system and registry data from the virtualized application using sandbox folders.
The isolation mode setting controls the degree and behavior of separation. Using the wrong isolation mode can cause application or file changes to not be visible to other applications on the host.
    Merged
System elements at this location are visible to the application. If a system element and virtual element exist at the same location, the application sees the virtual element.
Modifications to virtual elements go to the sandbox.
Modifications to system elements go to the system.
New elements are created on the system.
    WriteCopy
System elements at this location are visible to the application. If a system element and virtual element exist at the same location, the application sees the virtual element.
Modifications to virtual elements go to the sandbox.
Modifications to system elements go to the sandbox.
New elements are created in the sandbox.
    Full
System elements at this location are not visible to the application.
Modifications to virtual elements go to the sandbox.
System elements cannot be read or modified.
New elements are created in the sandbox.
To change the isolation mode for a specific folder, edit the ##Attibutes.ini file in your package to set the mode for that folder, otherwise the setting in package.ini is used as the default for all the objects in the package. Edit the corresponding HKEY_XXXXXX.txt file to change the isolation mode for a registry branch. More details on these files are available in the VMware ThinApp User's Manual, version 4.0.1.
Note: ThinApp caches the isolation modes at runtime in the sandbox location. If the isolation mode is modified for your project and the executable file is rebuilt, it might be necessary to delete the sandbox for the changes to take effect.
DirectoryIsolationMode - Sets the isolation mode to Merged, WriteCopy, or Full.
ThinApp caches the isolation modes for the registry and the file system at runtime in the sandbox. If you change the isolation mode for the project and rebuild the executable file, you might need to delete the sandbox for the change to take effect.
Modifying Settings in the ##Attributes.ini File
The ##Attributes.ini file applies settings at the directory level while the Package.ini file applies settings at the overall application level.
For example, you can set the isolation mode at the directory or application level to determine which files and registry keys are visible and written by the virtual application you create. The granular setting in the ##Attributes.ini file overrides the overall Package.ini setting. The Package.ini setting determines the isolation mode only when ThinApp does not have ##Attributes.ini information.
If you need to compress only certain folders with large files rather than an entire application, you can compress files at the folder level with the CompressionType parameter in the ##Attributes.ini file.
The ##Attributes.ini file appears in most folders for the captured application. For example, the Attributes.ini file might be located in C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware ThinApp\Captures\Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3\%AppData%\##Attributes.ini. Use Notepad or another text editor to update the file.
    Edit the ##Attributes.ini File
Use Notepad or another text editor to update the ##Attributes.ini file.
    To edit the ##Attributes.ini file
    1. In the ##Attibutes.ini, uncomment, update, or delete the parameter.
    2. Double click the build.bat file in the captured application folder to rebuild the application package.
    3. Double click the build.bat file in the captured application folder to rebuild the application package.

  • How can I disable Safe Mode permanently?

I'm one of many people who use a Firefox addon called 'Leechblock' to help combat the tendency to waste time online by visiting time-wasting sites, or in my case - visiting porn sites. Leechblock helped, because it allowed me to ban the sites and search terms I would habitually go for. The only problem is that I'm now aware I can circumvent the whole ban thing by hitting 'Shift' when I click FIrefox and opening up the Safe Mode, this allows me to freely search for porn and\or disable the addon.
I know that several other people use Leechblock for the same purpose, and we've all come up against this - if we could disable Safe mode on our own version of Firefox, it'd take considerably more effort to get back in and fall back to those bad habits.
Others have posted instructions for disabling Safe Mode, but they've only worked with much older versions of Firefox. Is anyone with the experience able to dedicate a little bit of time to figuring out and explaining for the non-technical user how to do this on the latest version of Firefox?
Your help would be much appreciated, not only by me but by others with the same issue. Thanks!

  • Adjustments to the Isolation Mode feature in AI CS4

When entering isolation mode, nonselected objects are 'dimmed'. Is it possible to instead make them disappear (temporarily) altogether while in isolation mode?

I usually just hide the items I want out of the way, but you can't do this in isolation mode. I don't think you can customize the appearance of faded items which are outside of the isolation mode. The other thing I used to do before isolation mode was in illustrator, make a new document an the element you want to isolate copy and paste into the new document using Paste In Front (command+F). Then when you're done editing copy and paste in front back into the working document.

I’m developing a Visual Studio-based application in isolated mode (VS 2013). So far everything has gone smoothly, I have programmed some VSPackages, they manage their windows with their items, doing their things.
The problem arising is how to open a C# file (.cs) in the editor and have syntax coloring, statement completion and the rest of features provided by the language service. If I use VsShellUtilities.OpenDocument() the C# file is opened, but I have no language-specific
    support.
I have read Language Services part of the Visual Studio SDK tutorial and now I’m exploring the Projects part, but I don’t think I need a new project type or language service. I think I would use the C# language service provided by VS “as is”. Should I load
    it, how?
I would appreciate any suggestions and hints.
    Pedro.

    Hi Pedro,
The "isolated" shell does not ship with, nor does it allow the loading of the visual studio languages. You cannot open a C#, VB .NET, or C++ project in the isolated shell, as their respective packages are explicitly prevented from
    loading into the isolated shell.
If you have a dependency on the C# language service, then you will need to integrate with Visual Studio itself.
    Sincerely,
    Ed Dore
