Disabling iTunes from jumping to currently playing song

iTunes by default will automatically jump to the next song that is played. This really messes with me when I'm working on my library. The music library jumps to that song, and I have to scroll back to where I was in the library.
Is there an option or even some sort of plugin that will let it play the next song normally but not change the focus of where you are.
For example, if I'm pulling songs out of my library to add to a playlist, I lose my spot in the library every time a new song begins playing.

I really wish there was a better way like a built in option or even a plugin, without having to go with this playlist nonsense workaround. You would think Apple would be smart enough to add that option, I'm sure I'm not the only one annoyed by this. From searching google for answers, it seems there a ton of people who want this behavior but no real way to do it besides going through your work-around.
Even today it annoyed me, I was renaming tracks to their correct name, instead of "Track 1", "Track 2" etc, and then one of my playing songs switched to the next. So the highlight jumped all the way to the bottom of my library and I had to go find where I was working again.
I'll probably use your workaround tomorrow or in the next few days If I don't get another response with the miracle plugin that is seemingly impossible to find. It really can't be that hard to make a plugin of this sort could it? Maybe I can make a post in a forum where people build plugins, hoping someone would be willing to take the challenge to help others and I.

  • Jumping to currently playing track - Any way to disable?

Is there any way to disable iTunes from jumping to the song each time a new one begins? Thanks.

Not being very helpful, I know. I would just like to say that I too think that this is very annoying.
Why is it necessary to jump to the currently playing track every time it changes? It makes it impossible to browse your music collection, especially if it is large. I have about 9000 tracks, and it is almost impossible to find the next track before the currently playing song is over.
You have to have a pretty good idea of what you want to hear before you start browsing.
So it would be very nice if Apple would either disable this "feature" or make it optional.

When I edit the info of the currently playing song and press OK, iTunes freezes for a minute or two. The editing window doesn't close and is totally gray until the freezing stops.

Thanks, I know how to delete a song from iTunes. What I want is to create a global shortcut, which means let me to use that shortcut from anywhere outside iTunes, to let me currently playing song.
It's application is that I'm doing work and I don't like the currnet song, I can delete it with that shortuct without moving to iTunes and manually selecting and deleting it.

  • Drag & Drop image of currently playing song causes the Spotify window to "jump" to another position

When I try to drag and drop the image of the currently playing song (the one that appears under the playlist list, on the left side of the screen), the entire Spotify window jumps (i.e. moves/repositions) inside the screen to a totally different position, making it impossible to drag the song to the intended playlist. It seems that the the window is moved to the current mouse cursor position (i.e. the left top position of the window becomes the mouse cursor position, with an offset). When I reposition the window again manually, and try to do the same thing, it doesn't happen. I have been able to reproduce this issue a 100% of the times: I just refocus a few other windows I have open and then try to add the currently playing song to a playlist in the afore mentioned way.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

how can i get itunes to quit skipping to the currently playing song when i'm working on the library somewhere else?

You might be able to achieve what you want by using Party Shuffle. Set the source for Party Shuffle to be the playlist you want to listen to or add the tracks you want to listen to by control clicking on them and selecting Add to Party Shuffle. Once everything is in Party Shuffle, you can rearrange them to your satisfaction. As the songs are played, they'll roll off the queue. You can quit iTunes and even when you restart, all your songs will be there, in the order you want, waiting for you to hit play.

iTunes app on the iPhone is for purchasing music.
The fact the iPhone starts playing when connected to your car stereo is a function of your car bluetooth system.
Consult your car dealer/bluetooth system manual.
I have attempted to delete all music from the device (so there would be nothing to play), but 1 song remains in the iphone memory and I have been unable to delete that song.
Connect the iPhone to computer and select it in iTunes.
Click the Music tab and uncheck Sync music.
Then click Apply at lower right of iTunes.

I have an article here that addresses your issue, and can give you some helpful troubleshooting steps for resolving the issue:

  • Itunes showing what is currently playing.

Hi does anyone know how I can stop itunes from skiiping to the track that is currently playing. Its driving me mad when I tidy up my library and a new track starts to play and itunes skips to show me where it is. Can this feature be disabled, it's rubbish.
    Thanks

That only shows the artwork of the selected track and in no way disables the jump-to-current-track thing. There's gotta be something that disables it.

  • Disabling iTunes from automatically starting when Headphone plugged in

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite Ver 10.10.1. Whenever I plug in my Apple headphone it in, the iTunes automatically starts and I would like to disable the same. Some times its very much annoying where in, even if I am talking on FaceTime using my head phone, (I am guessing some small movements of headphone triggering this) the  iTunes starts automatically and the songs start to play during the FaceTime call.
Does any one know how to disable the iTunes from not starting up automatically, whenever a Headphone is inserted into Mac. I can start iTunes whenever I want like any other application. But I just don’t want any automatic starting of iTunes, when I plug the headphone! Appreciate any help in this regard. Thanks!

I think the following solution seems to work:
+ Go to the  - System Preferences - Users and groups //Need admin privilege and unlock to edit etc.
+ Remove iTunes from Login Items
    + Click Login Items
+ then select iTunes Helper and then the - to remove the application
+ Force quit the iTunes if it was already running
Problem did not seem to reoccur in my case. I have not restarted the mac but it seemed to work! Try yours and update please.

  • ITunes won't let me play songs I purchased

    Hello,
I am trying to play music in my iTunes that I had purchased via my AOL account, and iTunes will not let me play them. The screen comes up to sign in with my member ID and it will not let me access the song. Prior to today, I never had this problem as I got rid of AOL and now have a new Apple Id. Does anyone know why itunes is not letting me play prior songs that I purchased from another account?
    Thank you

I'm having the same problem. I had an earthlink account ages ago, and made my first purchases with this account. Now I can't play any of the music I purchased with that old account - according to my last iPod update, that's 86 songs, and I really don't want to type in my new authorization info 86 times.
My earthlink account has been dead for years. This issue just showed up. I think it may be related to the iTunes 7.x upgrade.
Can someone please tell us how to tell iTunes to authorize all purchases made with an old account? Requiring us to re-authorize one song at a time is amateur. I expect more from Apple.

  • IPod connects to iTunes 9 but can't play songs

I just updated to iTunes 9 and now I cannot play songs off the iPod. I can see the songs in iTunes, I can get the song info, but the songs are grayed out and I cannot play them.
    My iPod Touch works perfectly.
    How is this resolved?
    Message was edited by: masweet

    Hello masweet,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
The songs are probably greyed out because you have the iPod set up to "automatically" sync from your iTunes library. In order to play the songs from within iTunes off the iPod is to enable the "manually manage music and videos" button from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. If you had previously set your iPod up for manual management, the update may have reverted it to automatic. So it will be as simple as changing it back.
If still no luck, the update may have confused your iPod into thinking that it was set up with an entirely different iTunes library and will need to be restored in order to regain this functionality.
    Hope this helps.

  • Accessing information about currently playing song/media

    Hi everybody,
I am wondering whether it is possible to retrieve Information about whatever is currently playing on the phone. I.e. the title of what's being played and the current position (in seconds).
I would like to develop an app that is able to use these information while anything is being played in the background, no matter if it is a piece of music, stream, video, audiobook, whatever.
Is this possible and if so, how?
    Thanks and
    cheers,
    Christian.

    Hello Christian,
This is quite a difficult and complex task. But you can take a look at the sample provided by the open-source music identification system
    EchoPrint.
