Disabling Mail. Removing its icon from my Dock

I'm perfectly happy to use gmail directly without using Mail.
Mail often boots itself and the icon in the Dock bounces. I know I can turn off the bounce, but how can I either disable Mail or remove it altogether?
Also, there's a Mail icon on my Dock that I'd like to remove but cannot. How can I accomplish that?
Thanks in advance.
Dave

Try resetting the Dock settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.dock.plist" and restart the Mac. Finally, try to delete Mail again.
Also, when you are going to turn the Mac off, make sure that Mail is closed or that you untick "Reopen windows when logging back in". If you don't do one of those things, Mail will start automatically every time you start the computer

  • How do I remove an icon from the dock of an iMac 10.9.5.?  Dragging doesn't work although I have tried a number of different places.  I recall right clicking used to give me a remove option.

How do I remove an icon from the dock of an iMac Maverick, 10.9.5?  I've tried dragging different places: desktop, finder list etc.  No luck.

Drag up towards the centre of the screen & hold for a second or so. The icon will have the 'smoke cloud' appear, let go & it will be removed.
There should also be a 'Remove from Dock' option in the popup menu. It is in the 'Options' section . ctrl+click will 'right click' if right clicking is disabled.
If this is not possible the Dock is locked (this may happen on a 'Managed Mac' normally setup by a company or school etc). See your tech support in this case.

  • Can't remove icons from the dock.

I can't seem to remove the app icons from my dock. Usually i would just click the icon and drag it away or even right click it and have it removed from the dock. Now if I try to drag it out of the dock it doesnt move and when i right click it my only options are to ---Open at login/show in finder or open---. I ran disk utility, relaunched my dock, restarted my computer and shut it down yet the problem still persists. I was hopoing someone out there had an answer to this problem. I will call apple tomorrow morning if it wont go away.
I dont know if this help but I just installed CS4 on my computer I i noticed the problem after it was installed.

  • How Can I Remove the Finder Icon From the Dock?

Hi! Can someone tell me how to remove the Finder icon from the dock? I don't even care if Finder quits. I just want it removed from the dock. I really don't care if I can't get to my files. Please help.

Start by going to your core services, (/system/library/coreservices). You can do this by pressing Shift+Cmd+G and then paste (/system/library/coreservices), without parentheses.
After doing this, find Dock.app, right click, show package contents. This doesn't contain the icons on your dock, just finder and trash.
After that, move all finder services to the desktop, and then erase them from the core services folder. At this point it will prompt you to put in your password, do so.
Next you'll want to open terminal and type 'killall dock' or, you could restart your computer.
This should remove the finder icon from your dock, while still giving you access to it from your desktop.
    Hope this helps!

    Hi,
    1) COPY the program RFITEMAP and create a ZRFITEMAP
    2) and added this code in the INITILIZATION event. You can search ZRFITEMAP with INITIALIZATION and add below code there.
      INTIALIZATION.
DATA: t_exclude TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF sypfkey.
      APPEND 'DYNS' TO t_exclude.
"DYNS is the dynamic selection screen function code.
      CALL FUNCTION 'RS_SET_SELSCREEN_STATUS'
        EXPORTING
          p_status        = sy-pfkey

  • Hi, my mail won't open from my dock on my mac and it won't quit so I can't restart. Anyone help?

Hi, my mail won't open from my dock on my mac and it won't quit so I can't restart. Anyone help?

    Hello ward886,
Thank you for the question.  It sounds like Mail is unresponsive, and you are unable to access it or restart your system.  In a situation like this, I recommend force quitting Mail and restarting your computer.
Use one of the following methods to force Mail to quit:
Using the Force Quit feature of OS X makes an application close, even when it is not responsive.
Important: Normally you should not need to force quit an app to close it. When an app is forced to quit, any unsaved changes to open documents are not saved, so try these methods to normally close the app first:
Choose Quit from the app menu. For example, in Safari, choose Safari > Quit Safari.
Choose Quit by right-clicking or control-clicking on an app's icon in the Dock.
If your app does not close using the steps above, use any of these steps to force the app to quit:
Switch to another app, such as the Finder, then choose Force Quit from the Apple menu. Select the unresponsive app in the Force Quit window, and click Force Quit.
Press Command-Option-Esc, then select the unresponsive app from the Force Quit window that appears, and click Force Quit.
Hold down the Control and Option keys on your keyboard, and click the icon of the unresponsive app in the Dock. Select Force Quit from the menu that appears.
Open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder or the Spotlight menu. Select the unresponsive app in the Activity monitor window. Choose Quit Process from the View menu, or click the Force Quit button in the toolbar of the Activity Monitor window.
If you cannot switch from the unresponsive app, press Command-Option-Shift-Esc for three seconds to force it to quit. This key combination tells OS X to force quit the frontmost app.

  • I want to disable or remove Game center from my iphone. It's always pop up during i play hay day game. So i can not solve this problem. Any way i try to log in game center my several Apple id account but it does' not work. I am still stuck in log in page

I want to disable or remove Game center from my iphone. It's always pop up during i play hay day game. So i can not solve this problem. Any way i try to log in game center my several Apple id account but it does' not work. I am still stuck in log in page

The Game Center app is pre installed and cannot be removed from the device.
Best thing to do is move it to the last available screen.
Hold down the Game Center app until all the apps jiggle then sliide the Game Center app to the right from one screen to the next. This requires a bit of finesse, but it's doable.
Press the Home button one time to stop the apps from jiggling.
For the Apple ID issue, try resetting.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then try your Apple ID and password for the Game Center app.

I installed the system update to 10.7.3. After re-booting, my mail file was missing from the dock.  Looked in applications and the mail application is missing. Any thoughts?

Thanks Paul; but, taking your suggestion didn't solve the problem.  As mail is part of the OS, the updates don't have the capacity to reinstall applications; so, I had to reinstall the OS.  I now have my mail back (although it didn't appear on the dock--I had to go to applications and activate it and then put it back in the dock.  Thanks again for trying.

  • How do I remove padlock icon from all my files?

On one of my drives, every single file has a little padlock icon superimposed over the file icon. I recall when I did a clean install of windows 7 RC over my Vista install, I wasn't getting write access to the drive so I had to take ownership of the drive and mess with the security settings before it started working normally.
I have to admit, I find the security settings in all versions of NT mystifying... For instance, although my account is in the administrators group, having full access to administrators never seems to work. I always have to add my individual user account and explicitly give it full access.
In any case, I can't remember exactly what it took, but after messing around with the security settings for a while, I eventually was able to have full access to the drive and have no problems reading/writing/deleting files and folders, but there's the padlock icon still on everything.
Can anyone explain how to get rid of it, and/or maybe point me to a good, clear, understandable guide on how to properly set NTFS permissions.
    Thanks!

Help I have 'lost' my downloads icon from the dock on my desktop Mac. Can I retrieve it? If so please describe how, using simple terms. I have tried searching folders, finder and trash

Your Downloads folder should be in your Home folder. Just drag it to the Dock.
If you've managed to delete it, try creating a new folder called 'Downloads'. You will probably need to nominate it in Safari or any other browser preferences as your download destination. (Safari Preferences>General, 'Save downloaded items to:' menu)

    Hi Malkit,
You can check Icon in Thing Type like COD_Account__TT screen.
Once you are in TT screen just go to "Controller" and select "Thing Type Data" from left side pan.
But how to remove it I don't have any idea.
