Disabling narrator function on lumia 520 windows phone

i was testing my new windows 8.1 software and swictched on the narrator function and since then i can use my phone it doesnt allow me to scroll down to settings to turn it of, should i flash my phone then, or else there is another way???????????? please
help am stressed near death

Disable "Search" key on Lumia 520

Pretty simple. I want to disable the "Search" key on my Lumia 520. I find the base of my thumb activates it when reaching across the screen. Even if it didn't, I'd still rather de-activate it to limit accidental connections to the web - my data allowance is minimal and the overage charges are high.
Can this be done?

Microsoft Lumia 920 Windows Phone 10 Technical Preview no network (with active sim card)

I updated the Nokia Lumia 920 to windows phone 10 last night and now doesn't recognise the sim card EE (T mobile uk) which is inserted inside it. What can I do to fix this?
I have tried resetting the phone this improved the network WIFI connection. But the phone still didn't recognise the SIM card.

I performed the two functions you suggested, dism.exe
/online /cleanup-image /restorehealth stated "Error 0x800f0906 The Source files could not be downloaded. Use the
"source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077
Then, according to sfc /scannow, it stated: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios."
At this point. I may attempt to install the ISO on a flash drive, and perform a repair on the OS, unless you have some other advice! Thanks for your help!

Unreliable call notifications on Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8

My wife and I both own the Lumia 920 with the latest Windows Phone 8 update (GDR2/Lumia Amber). We have installed Skype on each handset. We are signed into the app and into our Live accounts. I used her phone and Skyped my phone. Nothing happened. Though her Skype app showed my phone to be "ringing," my phone in fact never gave any indication that a call was trying to come in. There was also no notification on the lockscreen, though I enabled that feature on my phone's settings.
I went into the Skype app and looked under its settings, but all I find are toggles to turn on Skype and Messenger messages, both of which are on. I know that I'm missing something. I checked Background Tasks on the handset. Skype doesn't show up on the list of blocked apps. But neither does it show up as "allowed." When I go into Background Tasks > Advanced, there is a list of grayed-out items that I "may not be able to block," and Skype is on that list. But I can find no option to manually permit it.
How do I know when someone is Skyping me?

It's been over a month since my first post and providing the Skype team with details for them to troubleshoot, still no word from them. I have almost all the issues that you would find online about Skype and nothing they said is fixed works for me. I have since tested on my iPad 2 (iOS 7) as well, same story and having multiple devices made it even worse. I don't get sound when text notifications arrive on my iPad, just on-screen alerts (yes, Skype notifications have been set to play sound). Calls only show up as missed calls after the fact, just like my WP8. Skype was unresponsive when I tried to pick up a text notification on the iPad and I had to switch over to my WP8, just to have my first failed reply using the iPad pop up the next day on my PC. What's even funnier was the other side received this "first" response 5 or 6 hours before I saw it on my side and his response to that didn't get to me until 7 hours later when the real conversation concluded the night before. The multiple device sync they said they fixed back in the Feb release isn't working either. I would be texting away on the iPad and my phone sitting right next to me would be pinging away with notifications. So much for only sending notifications to the active device. Maybe they're pinging my phone to compensate for the soundless iOS? Even something simple as emoticons is messed up. I've received them as code on my PC from someone texting me from another Skype account, they've turned into little squares or code if I view the conversation on a different device from the one I used to send them originally. Profile pics of contacts appear and disappear at random. Even what you think is the most stable and functional PC version is crapping out. Statuses of my contacts are rarely current and you need to log off and log back on to trigger it to refresh. And that doesn't work 100% of the time. Renaming contacts on the PC does nothing when you view it on other devices. So my contacts who have mutliple accounts show up with the exact same name multiple times on my WP8 and iPad. I have to go into the contact details in order to tell which one is personal and which one is work. I don't think you can make it this bad if you intentionally tried. They have essentially killed two great products with one merger and pissed off both loyal Messenger and Skype users. If I didn't have contacts on Lync, which only Skype can reach when you don't have Lync at home, I would have been so gone.

Lumia 620 & Windows Phone App Connection Problems

I've been having problems with a Lumia 620 connecting to the Windows Phone App on my Windows 8 laptop. The App keeps reporting that the phone has a problem and is not playing nicely. I've eliminated the laptop as the issue as my Lumia 920 connects without a hitch. I'm guessing the issue is with the Lumia 620's software as it was recently updated in the past two months. Any solutions out there apart from resetting the phone?

you could try to uninstall the windowsphone app from your laptop and reinstall it to see if maybe it wasn't connecting and loading the drivers correctly.

Lumia 520 eating phone credit/balance

Hey.
I recently bought Nokia Lumia 520. It's quite awesome phone. But there's one problem. My phone credit/balance keeps somehow decreasing a bit even though I haven't called or sent any messages. It eats about 10 cents in 6 hours. I have shut every other background application except Whatsapp.

e-mail sync, reporting the location to Microsoft, updating live tiles, and definitely WhatsApp!, there are several built-in features of smartphones that eat small chunks of data.
Possible workarounds is to turn mobile data off or turn power save on with the "always" option selected, but the only real solution is to get a data plan from your provider to fully enjoy the phone without extra bills.

Javascript disabled on my nokia lumia 520

I have just bought a Nokia lumia 520 and downloaded the EBAY app but can use it properly when i try to reply to messages it all is says is JavaScript disabled you must enable it but i havnt got a clue how to do it

The official eBay app? I haven’t tried myself, however, this is a bug in the app itself, additionally the error message is misleading. I would contact their support. Did you do that, already?

Disable slider value change on tap Windows Phone 8 8.1

I'm working on a windows phone 8.1 application with some sliders for various settings.
I would like to know if it is possible to only allow a user to drag the slider to change it's value. I do not want
the value of the slider to change when the user taps an area away from the slider thumb (eg jump to the tapped point).
I have tried to set IsTapEnabled to false, and I have poured through the slider xaml documentation.
I still cant seem to disable 'tap change value' of the slider. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Nokia Lumia 925 Windows phone keeps shutting down

     I have had a problem for the past 2 months, my Nokia Lumia 925 with Win 8.1 keeps shutting down spontaneously. (I did not have this problem before 8.1) This is my third phone in the last 2 months (warranty program keeps sending me replacements) and it shut down for the first time this morning. All 3 have developed the same problem, the phone will shut down spontaneously and the only way to start it up again is a soft reset (Volume down + Power for 15 seconds). I have had a total of 10-15 shutdowns between the 3 phones and this is a conservative estimate.
     I am thinking that this has to be a setting or an app that I use (and few others do) that is causing the shutdown since I have only seen a few other similar issues in the forums. Here are some of the basic facts about my situation and some of the actions I have taken:
              - I have wiped the phones repeatedly (3 phones wiped a total of 3 or 4 times not including the initial setup of the replacement phones, which is getting really old--really fast).
               - I have tried turning off NFC, but that obviously wasn't the issue because NFC was off this morning when it shut off.
                - I have tried trimming the screen protector/screen guard I installed as suggested in one of the other forums even though that seemed ridiculous (I think that was a different model phone too, but I gave it a shot)
I have not noticed any common occurrence such as
                           --when a certain app is running
                           --when it is on/off charger,
                           -- When the battery is full or low (it was 24% this morning).
               -I have 2 chargers, 3 if you include the car charger that I have never had to use due to great battery life.
               - I have called tech support several times, all AT&T can tell me is that this is not a known issue and I should wipe it again. Nokia says the same and that I should send it back to them for repairs. That seems fruitless to me because I have had 3 different phones, what are they going to repair that a new phone won't fix?
       It takes me 3 hours to reinstall and set up my apps, I am getting very frustrated. I really love the way this phone functions, the software is good, the screen is brilliant and very sensitive, the camera is great (although a bit slow), and the size and feel are perfect for me...I hope that someone here on the forums can help.

We appreciate you reaching out to our community regarding your concern. You are using a Lumia 925 as well, correct? Did something happen to your phone that possibly caused such behavior? Did you try doing fixes on it?
Latest software released for Lumia phones is the Lumia Cyan. To confirm that you have it installed on your phone, go to Settings> extras+info. You can also try going to Settings> phone update> check for updates to check if there's an available update. Are your system apps also updated? While connected to WiFi, go to Store> ...> downloads to check for pending updates. Let's hope that the phone will not shut down while doing this process.
By the way, we can try other fixes that could help us identify the real cause of the issue. In case you wish to have it repaired in a Nokia Care Point, warranty claim may vary per region and Nokia does not have an international warranty. Also, creating a backup is a must to avoid data loss. I've tried connecting it to my Linux Ubuntu and it says an error syaing something like "could not lock the device."

I'm interested in purchasing a Lumia 520 and read on the spec site that it can do "Remote wipe of user data via Internet" (http://www.nokia.com/in-en/phones/phone/lumia-520/specifications/).
Is there any special software that I need to be able to do this (like have it connected to a BlackBerry server in the case of enterprise BlackBerry devices) or is it as simple as stated on (http://www.noknok.tv/2013/05/02/how-to-find-your-lost-nokia-lumia-running-windows-phone-8/) where all you have to do is log into windowsphone.com where you can erase a linked phone?
This phone will be used for business so in case it is lost I need the ability te remote wipe it. Our company currently has a BB server and we all have BB devices, but with BB not doing so well I was thinking of getting a Nokia.

If there's no data connection, windowsphone.com cannot access your phone to send push notifications and if push notifications fail, then it will try to send SMS to your phone.
I just tried to ring my phone after taking out the SIM card, it was connected to wi-fi and I could ring it.
