Disabling open pdf in browser in adobe PRO XI not reader
I have deployed adobe pro out to our user base and i understand in adobe PRO X there was a check box that would disable open pdf in a browser but that has gone away. I have gone under the preferences and on the internet section in PRO XI there is a link that takes you
here: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html I have created a GPO that disables the active X control in both IE 8 and IE 10 as you can see from this screen shot the adobe pdf reader is disabled so according to the instructions on the web all pdf files should open in PRO XI. This is not the case. The pdf will still open in the browser. I have checked the new customizations wizzard for adobe PRO XI and there is nothing to disable disply pdf in the browser to uncheck that i am aware of. I have read about the bdisablewebintegration but this have not worked either under the FeatureLockDown. In adobe reader you can go under the accessibilty options and disable open within a browser there but I have been unable to find that option in PRO XI. Had anyone found a fix for this issue to where it can be deployed out?
Please let me know
Thanks
pjhernan
From the screenshot it looks like you have both Acrobat and Reader on the machine and only Reader is disabled.
Check again. If you think the doc is incorrect, post back.
--- more info ---
All browser integration prefs were deprecated with 11.x because browser companies are releasing new versions every 6 weeks or more. It was simply not possible to keep pace without requiring admins to update every few weeks. Moreover, most browsers are gradually phasing out such plugins or at least disable them by default (e.g. Chrome). Many companies provide a browser-specific PDF viewer. Acrobat and Reader share the same config and there's nothing different between the two.

Hi,
I'm trying to disable the open PDF in browser option in a corporate enviroment. The Adobe knowledge base said that this can be done by disabling the addon called 'Adobe PDF Reader'
I've set a policy to disable this addon, but the PDF still open in the browser. Any ideas?
Also is there a registry key to disable instead? We are using IE11 as a browser.
Thanks
DaveHello,
Please try the below reg.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\Originals]

How to disable Display PDF in Browser in Adobe Reader XI?
I am having troubles with opening a report in PDF form from a web browser, and I'm trying to figure out how to disable opening a PDF in a browser in Reader XI. I tried disabling "Open in Read Mode" and "Allow Fast Web View" both individually and seperately, and none of those combinations did the trick.
Any suggestions/help are appreciated. Thanks.Hello Lloyd6770
Try these steps. ( I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Internet Explorer 9, and Adobe XI )
1. Open Adobe XI
2. Click Edit
3. Click Accessibility
4. Click Setup Assistant
5. Click top radio button 'Set Options for Screen Readers'
6. Click Next
7. Do not change options on Screen 2 of 4, Click Next
8. Do not change options on Screen 3 of 4, Click Next
9. On screen 4 of 4, remove the check mark on ' Display PDF documents in the web browser '
NOTE: I checked Internet Explorer 9 / Tools / Manage add-ons and Adobe PDF Link Helper is still enabled in Internet Explorer 9.
PDF's will open in Adobe XI as you preferred and not in your brower.

Opening PDF in browser using Adobe API - with mark up and comment features
Hey,
Here is the scenario : Firstly, the user has to review the file (say pdf) before approving it. I would like to open the pdf file in the browser directly for reviewing. Also, I want to add some mark up (sticky notes, etc) and comment features while reviewing. Using these features, the user can pin point the mistakes directly in the file and revert the file for changes if any.
And as part of implementation, I would like to use Adobe java API to do the same. But I couldn't find any code snippets for using this API.
Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.This forum is only for discussions on the forums themselves. I would suggest that you start from the Acrobat forum,

Adobe Reader XI enterprise deploy-disable display PDF in browser?
There appears to be conflicting information about Adobe Reader XI and how to pre-configure the "disable display pdf in browser".
The Enterprise Administration Kit/Guide says you can do this via the MSI Property:
DISABLE_BROWSER_INTEGRATION = YES
However, acrobat help, indicates you can ONLY do this manually via individual browser add-ons.
I have the redestributable version from Adobe and I used the Enterprise Guide to make the AIP and used the Customization Wizard to create the package and am using the properties line when the msi is installed to disable the display
so which one is right?I am out of the office until 1/22/13.

I'd like to how to disable 'Enable JavaScript' and 'Display PDF in browser' in Adobe Reader 9.1 msi.
Any help would be appreciated.NeoChang:
You can modify the installation package using the Adobe Customization Wizard to toggle the "Display PDF in Browser" but I have not found a setting to disable JavaScript from the Wizard. I have created a script which makes the changes, but it has to be run for every user since that info is stored in the User hive of the Windows registry.
Disable JavaScript:
REG ADD "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\JSPrefs" /v bEnableJS /d 0 /t REG_DWORD /f
Disable Browser Integration:
REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /v bBrowserIntegration /d 0 /t REG_DWORD /f

Disable "Display PDF in browser" | Acrobat, Reader XI
I understand this is the suggested method of disabling the "Display PDF in browser" is http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html However we would like to know if there is an API or something we can simply remove from the workstation to disable "Display PDF in browser".
Where is and what's the name of the file IE loads for "Display PDF in browser"
Is there a Reg Key that we can modiefy to Disable "Display PDF in browser"?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to offer.
EdFrom the KB note: "Acrobat XI and Reader XI do not include a preference setting to open web-based PDFs. "
In other words, what you want is already the default. All of the major browsers have their own PDF viewer. Moreover, the old reg pref "disable browser integration" never worked across all browsers due to the number of browsers and the rate at which they were evolving. That pref is removed in 11.x products.
While I don't understand the question in your first bullet, the default browser behavior seems to be what you are looking for. Browser behavior should be configured with browser settings rather than Acrobat/Reader settings.

Hi,
I have created a customized install of Reader 8.2.5 with the "Open PDF in Browser" disabled and greyed out. I would like to know which registry key makes this setting stick because about 50% of my network doesn't have the correct setting after deploy.
Could it be because of some older version registry files that are taking presidence??
Thanks,

Open PDF in browser - but cant control/close window from javascript
Hi
I hope I picked the correct forum
Basically I have a site in asp classic. From a button I opens 2
windows via javascript.
One contains info, one shows a related file ( could be tiff or pdf ).
When user closes info-window, I also close the file window via javascript, so that user only hav to click once.
That works with tiff, but not with pdf, '!file.closed' returns that window are already closed.
Somehow I simply loose contact to that window when I open pdf.
My Adobe is set with "open pdf in browser", version 10.1.2
Any Ideas ?
Overview what I do:
function openTwoWindows(jnr,vikar,hvorfra){
var left, top,vikar;
width = (window.screen.availWidth/2)+80;
width2 = (window.screen.availWidth/2)-80;
height = (window.screen.availHeight);
info = window.open('info.asp'','top=0,left=0,height='+height+',width='+width+',resizable=yes,scr ollbars=yes,status=yes');
var settings= 'toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,'+
'status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes, top=0, left='+width+', height='+height+',width='+width2;
file = window.open('showfile.asp?strJnr='+jnr+'&print=false','file',settings);
info.focus();
function closeFileWindow(){
if(file && !file.closed){
file.close();
if the file is a pdf -> showfile code in asp classic:

Response.ContentType = "Application/pdf"
'Response.Clear

FYI, this is a forum for storage and sharing...photoshop.com and revel. If you have acrobat issues you might want to make a note of the other forums:
http://forums.adobe.com shows a list of all of them, and specifically http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat this one for Acrobat
But, since I have had this same issue myself...
On Windows, locate your pdf document. Right click it and select "open with". Select Adobe Acrobat. That should do it. On MAC, I'm not sure but I'm guessing there is a similar setting.
Good luck.

Hello!
My Mac can't open PDFs in the browser window anymore, but just offers a download dialogue.
I already read in the forum, that it may help, to open the Acrobat Reader prefs and uncheck the "open PDF in browser window" option. The problem is though, that this option is greyed out, so I can' t uncheck it.
And: As for me I don't need to open the PDFs using the Adobe plug in.
I just want to see the PDFs quick and simple.
Any ideas gladly appreciated!
