Disabling/Re-enabling Adobe's Acrobat Reader Plug-in

Hi there
I was forced to install Adobe's Acrobat Reader Plug-in in order to view and download my bank statements. However, I would like to use Safari's default PDF viewer plug-in when browsing other than my bank's website.
Is there any way to disable and re-enable the Adobe Acrobat Reader (Plug-in) without having to uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader?
Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue with 9.0.0 -- option to disable from Reader's "Internet" options was grayed out.
This is a side-effect (feature?) of how Adobe installs the plug-in at the System level
/HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
instead of at the User level
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
I switched to an Admin account, launched Reader, and the option was not grayed out. I deselected it then quit and switched back to my user account.
When I launched Reader in my user account and opened preferences, then selected Internet, the option was still grayed out but now the "feature" was disabled.
So, Adobe has decided that individual users don't merit control over their own plug-in preference. It's the admin's choice and that dictates for all users on the system.
Like you, there are only a few situations where I am forced to use Adobe Reader -- certain medical, insurance, or financial forms that don't render or transmit accurately when using Preview.
Drives me nuts -- those are exactly the kind of forms I want to save as PDF to disk when completed -- and Adobe explicitly prevents saving as PDF. I can transmit the completed form to the provider, or I can save a blank form, but I cannot save a PDF of the completed form. Like chewing on soap by the time I'm finished...
Anyhow, hope that sorts it out for you.

  • Installing Acrobat Reader Plug-In Only (Not Full App)

I'm curious to know if its possible to load the Adobe Acrobat Reader Plug-in portion only in IE and Firefox. Ideally I'd prefer to not have to install the entire application just to view PDF's in IE/Firefox as I rely on a third party application to view, and manipulate, PDF's outside of the browsers. Yes, I can change the association of .PDF's in Explorer or re-install (or perform a repair installation of) the application to restore the file associations, but if I can avoid installing Adobe Acrobat Reader all together, I'd prefer that route.
Is this possible or does the application have to be installed?
    Thanks
    Jules

    It needs to be installed.

  • Repeated notification that "Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in" in Firefox is "out of date" after the upgrade is downloaded and installed.

I have tried to update the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, along with the plug-in in Firefox v37.0.1. Repeatedly, after the download/installation is "complete", upon opening Firefox I'm met with the message that the "Adobe Acrobat plug-in" is "out of date". I tried rebooting my machine, uninstalling Acrobat Reader DC (which works as a stand-alone), and still the plug-in is never updated (the one listed is from early December 2014) and the reminder always reappears with opening Firefox. Can anyone help with this?

Sorry about the issue which you are facing. It would be helpful if you could share the firefox notification message screenshot.
Also, please check that the firefox plugins show the correct Adobe Acrobat Reader DC plugin. If possible, please share the firefox plug in screenshot as well.

  • Disable online services/features in Acrobat Reader DC?

With the new update being released from Reader to Acrobat Reader DC, I have concerns with the use of cloud storage and storing sensitive data.
I have looked around and the only information I have found for disabling these new features are in reference to groups who use the Acrobat Customization Wizard DC, which means they would be running an Enterprise version.
I have installed and tested the new Acrobat Reader DC on both Windows and OS X, there are no obvious options for disabling the services that I am referring to.
    Services I am referencing:
    Adobe cloud storage service
    Sending and tracking documents
Syncing across multiple devices (by use of cloud storage)
Is there a way to disable the use of these services on an individual (non Enterprise) install of Acrobat Reader DC?
    Thanks in advanced!

You can use the Adobe Customization Wizard DC on both Reader DC (Classic or Perpetual) versions.
    Adobe Customization Wizard
You can also use the Windows Registry to turn these services OFF.

  • Acrobat reader plug-in

When trying to view a bank statement online i get this message:
I'm sorry. I can't find Acrobat Reader installed. Please download and install plug-in before viewing statement.
I have tried to download Adobe Acrobat. It shows up under applications in Finder. There are no plug ins for adobe showing up up in my plug ins list, only shockwave, quicktime, java etc.
I think when i used to try and open a plug in it asked me if i wanted to use a default program and if i said yes it would open in another window.
    What am i doing wrong!!!!

Adobe reader comes with an optional internet plugin, for displaying pdf's within your browsers. A very few websites may insist upon using that plugin, rather than Apple's built-in pdf support.
You can enable it via Adobe reader preferences - Internet, and checking the box marked "+Display PDF in browser using+..."
Do this with any browsers closed
The actual file, for those interested - is found within the adobe reader package, at
    /Applications/Adobe Reader 9/Adobe Reader.app/Contents/MacOS/SelfHealFiles/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin and needs to be copied to HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ or
    /Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ in order to over-ride Safari's built-in pdf support.

  • Disable the (ctrl+shift+s) of reader plug in

    HI,
I have a link on my html page which opens the pdf file in html pooup window.
I know if pdf is visible in browswr window its already in browser cache. I am ok with it.
But what I want I dont want to give any other option to the user to save the pdf through the opened html popup.
    Solution I implement:-
    1) Hidden the menu bar of html popup.
    2) Hidden the menu bar of acrobat reader's plug in.
So now user do not have any visible option to save the pdf.
    Problem:-
If user presses the (ctrl+shift+s) to save as prompt window pops up.
    Can I restrict this.
Is their any type of setting/command in adobe acrobat which I can implement in my pdf which disables the save as commnad of adobe reader pluhgin.

Your post is more appropriate for the Acrobat forum and in particular the Acrobat Script forum. You probably need to have a script that will process any input. However, if Acrobat/Reader's Javascript support is disabled, then any scripting solution will not work.

  • Disable "Display PDF in browser" | Acrobat, Reader XI

I understand this is the suggested method of disabling the "Display PDF in browser" is  http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html    However we would like to know if there is an API or something we can simply remove from the workstation to disable "Display PDF in browser".
Where is and what's the  name of the file IE loads for  "Display PDF in browser"
Is there a Reg Key that we can modiefy to Disable "Display PDF in browser"?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to offer.
    Ed

From the KB note: "Acrobat XI and Reader XI do not include a preference setting to open web-based PDFs. "
In other words, what you want is already the default. All of the major browsers have their own PDF viewer. Moreover, the old reg pref "disable browser integration" never worked across all browsers due to the number of browsers and the rate at which they were evolving. That pref is removed in 11.x products.
While I don't understand the question in your first bullet, the default browser behavior seems to be what you are looking for. Browser behavior should be configured with browser settings rather than Acrobat/Reader settings.

  • 64-bit acrobat reader plug-in?

Is there a 64-bit version of the acrobat reader plugin that works with the 64-bit version of IE? I am developing a 64-bit native application and I would love to be able to support PDF documents. My normal process for vieweing PDF documents is to use the IE web browser control and to navigate to the PDF document and let the acrobat reader plugin display the document. However, on 64-bits I am restricted to using the 64-bit IE browser control, and the 64-bit browser control does not like the 32-bit acrobat reader active-x plugin.
Is there a 64-bit version of the acrobat reader plugin? Is there a preferred method for viewing Adobe PDF documents from native 32-bit and 64-bit applications?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Miles

Thanks for the answer, but I remain somewhat confused...
I just downloaded Adobe Reader X, from the Adobe site. This download appears to be Adobe Reader version 10. Are you telling me that Adobe does not make or distribute this software?
Back to my point, this new reader does not seem to address the issue of being able to view Adobe PDF documents from within a 64-bit browser.
My question is simple. Is there a 64-bit browser plug-in that will view a PDF document from within a 64-bit version of IE?
From reading through the forums I can see many cases where people are experiencing similar if not exactly the same issue as I am having; however I do not see any posted solutions.
What is the recommended way for a 64-bit native application to view an Adobe PDF document?
Again, I ask, is there a way for an Adobe PDF document to properly open up inside of a 64-bit web browser?
If there is not a web browser solution then is there an SDK solution?
When working through the Acrobat SDK sample code, specifically with the example, BasicIacVC, I can see C\C++ OLE calls being made to "AcroExch.PDDoc". Does this mean a user of the SDK must have Acrobat Exchange installed on their desktop in order to view a PDF document? Generally, customers would rather use the Acrobat Viewer to view PDF documents, rather than to be forced into purchasing Acrobat Exchange.
Any insight or suggestions into this matter is greatly appreciated!

  • How to disable the world view in Acrobat reader

    Hello all;
I have searched several times now for a way to permanently turn off the global view/page navigator or whatever it is call that appears in the upper right corner of Acrobat reader when I scroll a document.  Some might find it useful, I find it gets in the way and covers the text I am reading while supplying no value as a navigation aid.
I cannot find anything that even references the little view box and gives it a name, much less tells me how to turn it off.
    Help please.
    Thanks Much
    Nick

Really, I get it on all my PCs all the time.  Just scroll a document and it pops up without being asked, then you click it close but no sooner do you scroll again and it is back.
Thanks for looking, I also cannot find any mention of it anywhere, I do not even know its proper name.
Sad, an undocumented, unwanted, unknown “feature”.
    Thanks MUCH!

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Plug - Writing to text file

    Hi,
I have an Acrobat plug-in which performs various functions including writing to a text file on c:\
If I use my plug-in with Acrobat all is well.
If I use the same plug-in with Reader everything seems to work ok except that it won't create the text file. It's as if Adobe reader is protecting this somehow.
Has anyone seen this before? Any one know how to get around it?
    Regards
    Stuart

More about protected mode. It is designed specifically to protect the user against attacks originating INSIDE Adobe Reader (e.g. via exploits). Sandboxing is a leading edge protection technology, which (for example) is also being applied to browsers. Your plug-in is therefore part of the problem to be protected against. You have to fully understand the philosophy to exist inside this new sandboxed world. Here is some reading

  • Enabling comments for Acrobat Reader

My reviewers are running Reader 9 (we have tried 8 also) and are unable to see the comment bar and therefore cannot review my pdf I sent( via email). In the document properties, when viewed from Reader, it shows commenting is not allowed.  I am running Acrobat 9 and I understand that I have to use the Enable analysis and Review for Reader from the Comments menu. Problem is, that option is not in the menu. How do I enable the menu option for my reviewers to be able to make comments?
    thanks,
    Kelly

You can find the option in Comments menu (Acrobat->Comments menu->Enable for commenting and Analysis in Adobe Reader) after opening the PDF file.

  • How can I permanently disable double sided printing in Acrobat Reader 11.0.09?

It is annoying to have to manually turn off double sided printing every time I print a *.pdf.  Is this fixable?

    Hi prtlaw,
Are you still look for answer?
These option are available with printer drivers. So, this is something you need to check from printer http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/choosing-print-options#1TC=windows-7
Or change the properties of every document:

How can I tell if today's software update from Adobe for Acrobat Reader is legitimate?

    Hi Darrell,
You can navigate directly to the Adobe site, adobe.com -- getting any downloads directly from Adobe will insure that you are getting the real deal.  I usually get most of my updates through "Apple software update," myself.
    Either way is A-OK.
