Disabling & Re-enabling iCloud Photo Library

I had to disable iCloud Photo Library (as part of logging out of iCloud on my Mac) to troubleshoot an iCloud issue. When I logged back in to iCloud ad re-enabled iCloud Photo Library it says I don't have enough disk space to download the originals (300GB+). That's not true as all the originals already exist in the library. It was working find before I disabled iCloud Photo Library.
My only option is to option is to optimize storage but as a result that will remove all the originals from my Mac.
It seems Photos app doesn't check to see if the originals already exist before displaying this warning and therefore I can't proceed.
Anyone know of a fix?

For those also suffering with the same problem...
I spoke to Apple. The only way to get around this is to select 'Optimise Mac Storage' and upload everything again! The originals will stay on your device even with the setting enabled providing the library is complete.
Bottom line. If you sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud Photo Library on your Mac, you'll need to re-upload your photos.

  • ICloud Photos Disappeared after enabling iCloud Photo Library

    Hi,
I have quite a complicated problem.
About two weeks ago I bought a new iPhone 5S (now running iOS 8), to replace my ageing iPhone 5.
All my photos were backed up on the iPhone 5, and then restored onto my 5S.
Recently, when I enabled iCloud photo library (Beta) on my 5S, all of my photos from a period of time (January to October this year) became grey thumbnails on my iPhone. When I looked at an individual photo, a message: 'loading' was where the photo should have been.
The loss of all of these photos is seriously troubling for me, and anyone who can give me a solution to this problem will receive huge respect from me.

    Hi goblue123,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that some of your older photos appear to have been removed from your iPhone after turning on iCloud Photo Library beta. Please read over the attached article for why this may have happened. If the photos are still on your computer, you can sync them back to your iPhone.
iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
What if some of my photos are missing after I turn on iCloud Photo Library?
iCloud Photo Library won't upload lower resolution photos and videos synced to your device from iTunes. You can use these steps to move the photos from your computer to your iOS device.

    Joe

  • Can't re-enable iCloud Photo Library iPhone

After upgrading to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5s and iPad (4th Gen) I turned on the iCloud Photo Library (beta) on both devices.  Since, I have bought an iPhone 6 and restored my backup to the iPhone 6 from the iPhone 5s backup.  The problem is that my photos didn't show up... so I decided to switch iCloud Photo Library off and on again hoping that the photos will re-download... Now here is the problem I have, when I switch iCloud Photo Library back on, I get the message "iCloud Photo Library Not Yet Available", though it's on my iPad and if I go to iCloud storage settings, it shows that I have a library... so I'm stuck with what to do...
    Any suggestions?

iCloud Photo Library is in beta (with good reason) and there are a limited number of slots open to users. When you turned off iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, you opened up a slot for another user. There is nothing you can do other than check from time to time to see if there is now an open slot available for you to re-enable the feature. However, given the trouble many users are experiencing with the service, it's probably not a bad idea to wait until at least iOS 8.1 is released.

  • London pictures disappear after enable iCloud Photo Library. It is any kind of problem with UK? =)

I have about 1000 pictures in my iPhone. (About 900 from Brazil, took with my Brazilian SimCard).
Last year, I went to  London and took about 50 pictures there. In that time, my iPhone was a 4S, with iOS7. (With a UK Number from a UK SimCard, don't know if this is relevant).
2 Months after, I went to US and purchased a 5s. Took about 50 pictures too, (With a US number, from a US card).
Today, I did the update to iOS 8.1, but when I enabled the iCloud Photo Library, all pictures from London just disappear.
Before iOS 8, we had something like that in iOS 7 ( I guess it was iCloud sync), and every time I do enable this thing, all pictures from London disappear. I have to restore my backup and let the feature off to have my pictures.
Anyone have any hint about why this is happen, or how to solve this thing?

Well by luck I figured out.
Restored the backup that I had with all pictures.
Went to the photo Library and selected the photos that disappear.
By some reason, don't know why, a "save" option appeared to me. I clicked in save (don't know from where to where), and when I turned on the  Library sync again. Tandam!! The photos didn't disappeared.
Anyone know how to explain this?

  • Photos on my Mac are not visible on my iPhone despite having enabled iCloud photo library.

I have iCloud Photo Library enabled on both my mac and my iphone.  I have ~17k photos on my mac - many of which were not taken on my iphone.  All 17k photos have been successfully uploaded to my iCloud Photo library (and are visible on icloud.com).  However, when I open the Photos app on my iphone, instead of being able to access all 17k photos, I can only see the 80 or so that I recently took on my iPhone.  The 80 photos on my phone are being uploaded to the iCloud photo library and are visible from my Mac - just not the other way around.
I am running iOS 8.3 and the latest Mac OS (which has the new photos app).
    Any help is appreciated!

Don't know if it will help or not, but you might try going to Control Panel>Programs & Features>Uninstall, then right-click on "iCloud" and choose Repair, restart your PC and try photo stream again.
Also confirm that the photos are appearing in the my photo stream album on your phone (which will confirm that they are being added to photo stream).

  • How can i download photos to my IPhone after Disable and Delete ICloud Photo Library?

I`ve started to use Icloud Photo Library, but i`ve decided to not use anymore because just a few photos were uploaded to the cloud.
So, I`ve turned off my ICloud Photo Library entirely at Manage Storage section of ICloud Settings. After that i`ve been trying to re-download my photos to my IPhone, by "Transfer and Keep Originals" set up, but it isn`t working!

You cannot.  this is how the iphone handles photos.
ALL PHOTOS synced to iphone can be accessed via the "Photo Library".  Those same photos can also be accessed from the folders that you synced.  Just as you can find a book in your public library and you find the same book in the fiction section.
Stop trying to resolve it as there is nothign to resolve.  All is working as it should.

  • ICloud Photo Library (beta) - how does it work?

8.0.2 has an option to enable iCloud Photo Library (beta), I am trying to understand how it works before I turn it on...
The description says it will auto-upload the entire iPhoto Library to iCloud so other devices that can access these photos by using the same Apple ID. It also has sub-option to keep original photo or keep optimized photo on the device. So questions:
    1. This feature seems to do what Photo Stream does, will new taken photos be auto-sent to iCloud and Photo Stream?
    2. Does iCloud Photo Library count iCloud storage?
    3. Those albums synced with iTunes, will they be uploaded to iCloud Photo Library, and no longer sync with iTunes? Will they be deleted from devices? Will the iTunes Photo Sync selections be disabled?
    4. Here "iPhoto Library" refers to the photo library on devices only, or it includes the Photo Library on computer? My Mac iPhoto/Aperture also signs in the same Apple ID, will those photos on my Mac be auto-uploaded to iCloud?
    5. Presently I sync selected photos to devices via iTunes, if iTunes Sync is disabled after enabled iCloud Photo Library, how can I send selected photos to devices?
    Thanks

Using iPad Mini / iPhone 4S
I have just recently enabled the iCloud Photo Library (Beta). I also use MS Onedrive and i have it setup to automatically backup all my photos and      videos from both my iOS devices.
Today i opened Onedrive for no particular reason and clicked on the Photos tab, this shows the progress of photos being backed up, only this time i      scrolled down to find that there was hundreds of photos from different families mixed in with mine dating back to 2002! Naturally the first thing i am      thinking is who is looking at my photos/files. What is going on!!!!
Let me just assure anyone reading this, that the owner of these photographs would not appreciate anyone else having them, these are Kindergarten,      public school and family photos of complete strangers. and all my photos are mixed in between them.
Is anyone else having this issue

  • I want to open my iCloud Photo Library but it keeps on saying "You must be logged in to iCloud to enable iClou Photo Library" i am logged in with my apple id so how else must I log in?

I want to open my iCloud Photo Library but it keeps on telling me "You must be logged in to iCloud to enable iCloud Photo Library" I am logged in with my Apple ID What other log in should I do?

No you should not continue to use iPhoto. You can't have an iPhoto Library on an NAS. The disk format is wrong and iPhoto is not designed for network access. End of story.
Neither should you use iPhoto in Referenced mode with the Photos on a NAS as that's just storing up problems.
For more on iPhoto and file management see this User Tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6361
That said, iPhoto is due to be replaced soon - in the coming months - by a new App, and this may not have that issue. For instance, there are no such reservations bout running referenced Aperture library - so who knows what may come with the new (that also replaces aperture.)
So, you might want to hold on making any big decisions until you see the options. Why? Because what you're describing as a workflow is moving to an entirely different kind of workflow. You're going from non-destructive with iPhoto, to lossy and destructive in your suggested replacement. Is that what you want?
What you export from iPhoto really depends on what you want: the original unedited image? Or a version of the edited one? What's for sure is the one thing you don't want is to export as Current - that's just a preview and missing loads of metadata.

  • HT204486 I get an error that I must enable system library on the 2nd MAC when I attempt to turn on iCloud photo library.

I am attempting to configure Photo on two macs. My MacMini has the System library and has uploaded all my picture to my iCloud photo library. I am configuring Photo on my MBP and when I enable iCloud photo library I get an error stating that the iCloud photo library can only have one system library assigned to it then the option becomes grayed out. End result...only one MAC can run Photo against the same library. Please assist.
    Thank You

You'll have to reinstall iPhoto in order to get the themes linked back to the application. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally.

  • How do I add photos to iCloud Photo Library?

    Hi All,
Hoping for some help as I'm at a loss.
So iPad and iPhone, both upgraded to ios 8 last week and thought I would take advantage of the new iCloud Photo Library. Works great, I take a photo on my phone and it automatically catalogs it and appears on my iPad via the iCloud Photo Library.
Now here's the issue, how do I add photos to my library from my computer?
If I plug either device in and load up iTunes, select my device and click on the Photos tab, I am told the following:
    iCloud Photos is On
**********'s iPhone can access photos in iCloud. Photos can be downloaded to your device via Wi-Fi or mobile network.
I rang Apple Support who kindly told me that I had to disable iCloud Photo Library on my device so that I could then sync it with iTunes, then re-enable it again so it would merge the two. This all worked up until re-enabling iCloud Photo Library which prompted me to delete all the photos I'd just synced.
So now I'm at a loss, how do I get photos on to my iPad now that I have this nice new feature enabled? All I want to do is make sure all my photos are in the iCloud library.
    Thanks

  • How can I 're-upload' photos to iCloud Photo Library Beta?

iCloud Photo Library a beta is set up to optimise iPad storage, but when trying to clean up my photo library, and opening photos to assess quality (which isn't feasible with the reduced resolution versions stored on my iPad) the full versions have downloaded and wiped out the storage capacity on my ipad!  I need to revert to to the 'minimised' version, but can't see how to do this.  Any help appreciated!

Are you really in a hurry to move your photos?
iCloud Photo Library is still a beta version. (See: iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ)  The Mac part has not yet been released, but all be available early next year. We do not know yet, what the Mac part of iCloud Photo Library will be like. The Photos.app for Mac will be able to upload to iCloud Photo Library.  If you simply wait till early next year, it will be the easiest transit. Then you will be able to migrate iPhoto Libraries and Aperture Libraries to Photos and store the photos in iCloud.
Right now, only iPad, iPhones, iPod Touches can upload to iCloud Photo Library Beta. And if you enable iCloud Photo Library Beta on your mobile devices, the usual ways to upload photos from your Mac will be disabled. It will no longer be possible to sync photos with iTunes, and you cannot upload using My Photo Stream. You would have to mail the photos to your mobile devices to upload them to  iCloud Photo Library Beta or use Dropbox or similar.

  • Does iPhoto 9.6 work with iCloud Photo Library at all?

I have iOs 8.1, but I have not enabled iCloud Drive or iCloud Photo Library yet, and I have not updated to Yosemite yet. I don't want to activate those until I know how photos between thee mac and iPhone will work after they are enabled.
Does iPhoto 9.6 interact at all with iCloud Photo Library? Does it even "see" iCPL photos similar to PhotoStream? Can it import from there? Do any of the crops and edits come through in iPhoto from the iOS photos app (whether imported from the iCPL or even via direct d/l from the phone via usb?

So what are you guys doing to manage your photos until the OSX Photos app come out? Just not using iCloud Photo Library at all I assume?
Can you use iCloud photo library but still manually import photos into iPhoto from USB import?
You can view your iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and download from iCloud Photo Library (Beta) at https://beta.icloud.com  or https://www.icloud.com  on your Mac, if you click the "Photos" icon. Click the "?" mark, to view the help for "Photos". But you cannot yet upload directly from your Mac to this library, even if the iCloud Photos Help is saying otherwise.
You can download to your mac from your devices using USB, but with iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled on your iPad or iPhone, you can no longer sync photos to them using iTunes Photo sync. So it is hard to get any photos onto your devices at the moment, other than using Photo Stream. To upload  photos to your iPad/iPhone using iTunes you have to disable iCloud Photo Library. And the synced photos will be erased, when you enable iCloud Photo Library again.

  • Iphone 6 stalls uploading photos to iCloud photo library

i have an iPhone 6 with the latest version of ios. Pretty often - generally at least once a week - it will attempt to upload new photos to iCloud photo library and just get stuck. Usually I have to either turn iCloud photo library off then on or sign out of my iCloud account to get it to start. But for the past few days (and of course I am on vacation so it can't do a full reset because I have no access to my iTunes backup) it just hangs. First trying to upload one photo, then whatever new photos I took - including photos that I airdropped to my iPad mini and are already in the icloud photo library. Now I again tried tuending my iCloud account on and off and it is sitting trying to upload over 1,100 hundred shots.
Any suggestions I can try before I get home and can try apple tech support of s full factory reset and restore?
    Thanks

You may not like this solution, but it's the last thing that the apple care support could offer.
Let's say you have a bunch of photos stuck on syncing...
Connect iPhone to a computer via the cable, set iPhone to Airplane mode
Use Photos.app and select your iPhone in the sidebar (enable the sidebar first)
Select the photos you want to import
    Select "Import"
Now all your photos are downloaded from the iPhone and then uploaded to iCloud Photo library.
Delete the Photos on your iPhone manually, also from the "trash"
Disable airplane mode on the iPhone
Disable iCloud photo library in the settings of iCloud.
Log out of your iCloud account on the iPhone
Wait till all the photos on the iPhone are deleted as well... delete them manually, also from trash (make sure you have them all in the Photos app on your mac!)
    Restart your Phone
Log into your iCloud again and enable iCloud photo library.
    All the photos should sync.
I hope this helps, it helped me at least!

  • IPhone not uploading photos to iCloud Photo Library.  Why?

I have 2 iPhones 6Plus's both fully updated.  I have enabled them both to use iCloud Photo Library.  One has synced up nicely, the other has not pulled any photos down from the cloud and says that it has 2,373 items to upload.  Any ideas what could be preventing it?  I have tried toggling iCloud Photo Library off and on with no success.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks.
