Disabling 'Remember History' results in the Download library to malfunction.

I had disabled the 'Remember history' option and when i download anything it doesn't get listed in the 'Downloads' library. It gets downloaded in the background but i am not able to see its progress. When i enable the option to remember history, the current downloads get listed. I am using firefox 26.0

If you do not remember history then you enter Private Browsing mode and you do not keep download history as well.
Firefox manages downloads in the Downloads folder in the Library (History > Show All History)
*Downloads are treated as history items: clearing history removes included download items and vice verse.
*When downloads are in progress you see an animated download button on the Navigation Toolbar showing an estimate of the remaining time
*The Download button gets a green highlight once all download are finished to make you aware that new downloads are available.
*Pause and Resume can be found in the right-click context menu of an item.
The about:downloads page (Show All Downloads) shows the downloads while in Private Browsing mode, but you can't keep them in the Downloads folder in the Library.

  • Solution To Restore the Downloads Library Window in Firefox...

For those of you who want to restore the Downloads Library window in Firefox instead of the tab, there is a rather simple solution instead of downloading add-ons or the non-working browser.download.useToolkitUI Boolean.
Instead, in about:config, add the Boolean string browser.download.manager.showWindow and set it to True. This will show the Downloads Library window instead of the tab.
I discovered this by accident the other day as mine stopped working randomly. So looking through the about:config, I saw the download.manager Boolean strings and figured why not try this, and Voila!, it worked. Hope this helps everyone else! Please pass it on!

What extension do you have installed that adds support for the browser.download.manager.showWindow pref because that pref is not part of Firefox?

  • Why can't I download OS X Mavericks? The download option is malfunctioning. I already checked that my mac version can have free upgrade. I click download, but it just doesnt do anything.

Why can't I download OS X Mavericks? The download option is malfunctioning. I already checked that my mac version can have free upgrade. I click download, but it just doesnt do anything. I went to purchase tab, clicked "download" next to the app but still nothing happens. It's not internet problem because everything else on the app store works. The only thing not working is Mavericks downloading and I don't know why. Please help.

To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
Since Mavericks requires 8GB's or more of free disk space, control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop or open the Finder, right or control click startup disk in the Sidebar on the left then click Get Info.
You'll see Available and Capacity. Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space.
If installed, disable anti virus software before downloading Mavericks.

  • How can I find out the name of an artist in the download library?

Yesterday my friend configured his iPod nano. At the end of the setup, a library of some 30 songs was downloaded to his iPod. He told me he loved one of the songs called Sons and Daughters, but the album/artist displayed as Anonymous. It's a moving antiwar song about the Iraq War. I listened and loved it too.
How can we find out who the artist is? Also, how does Apple select the tunes to include in the free download? It's possible that lots of people have heard this song and would like to find out more about it as well.

It was downloaded automatically from itunes at the end of the setup.
Okay, but how did the music get into iTunes?
You had to get the music from somewhere...

  • How does one set options such that the entry for a successfully downloaded file automatically got removed from the download window?

In earlier versions of Firefox, I could set options such that when a download completed successfully, the download entry was automatically removed from the download windows. I don't seem to be able to get this functionality in ver 13.0.1. In this version, i have to right click on each completed download entry, and choose "remove from List". This is very cumbersome.
I really liked the earlier auto cleanup as it left only pending, current and failed downloads in the Download window - just the stuff I needed to pay attention to. Is there any way to set up ver 13.0.1 to make things work the way they worked so well earlier.
A related issue may be that in the Privacy tab, the option for Browsing and Download history have been combined (were they separate earlier? - don't remember). I want to keep my browsing history but not my download history. I can still clear them individualy in the "Clear Recent History" settings, so why can't I set the control for keeping either individually? Or can I?

The download history is part of the regular browsing history, so you would have to disable the history altogether as you've already noticed.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
**"Remember my browsing and download history"
Firefox manages the downloads in the Downloads folder in the Library.
    * Firefox > History > Show All History > Downloads
Future Firefox versions won't use the current download manager (pref: browser.download.useToolkitUI; Bug 726444), but use a toolbar button with a drop down list, similar to the Bookmarks Menu button.

  • In my Firefox ver 3, I can have the download window minimized and still havw a small line above the taskbar that shows remaining download time. In my ver 5 I cant seem to find that option or how to enale that feature 5

    Seems like I want

  • The downloads disappear when firefox shuts down in the middle of a download

In the previous versions of firefox, I could stop my downloads in the middle, shut down my computer, restart and continue my downloads from that point on... but that doesnt seem to be the case with 3.6... I have to restart my downloads from the very beginning ... can you help me with this problem?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == as soon as i installed 3.6

Does it help if you remember Downloads: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: "Remember download history" ?
Also make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the download history

  • Where are the downloaded files? Project is not showing up in the programs area of Windows 8.1

I downloaded the Project files.  Now it doesn't show up in the programs area.  What happened to it?  The files did download completely - it took a while!  Assistance is greatly appreciated!

The default location for download in Windows 8.1 is the DOwnloads library, unless you changed it. from start screen, type downloads and see if you can find your files there. You will only see it in programs, after you have INSTALLED it.

  • I have selected "Use custom settings for history" and pressed "OK" but it defaults back to "Remember history", how do I stop this?

I have to enable cookies in order to have an online purchase credited to my mileage account. So, I opened Firefox Tool and selected Options then Privacy. There, I changed "Remember history" to "Use custom settings for history," as, this will achieve what I am trying to do. However, when I press "OK" the box jumps back to the Privacy box and I see that "Remember history" is still the setting. What steps do I take to prevent the Privacy box from defaulting to "Remember history" when I want to change that setting to something else?

The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
Do you have a problem with the cookies?
You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

  • New Tab Contains History Even after clearing history and Privacy setting is set to "Never remember history"

    I am using Firefox 14.0.1
I currently have "Never remember history" selected in the Privacy section underneath Tools->Options. I have even used the clear all current history option.
When I click the plus sign to open a new tab a history of the sites that I have visited is appearing. This is after clearing the history and closing all instances of firefox and opening it again.
I'm guessing that the "new tab" is using something other than history because when I type in a website it is not suggesting my recently viewed websites...as expected history was cleared.
I'd really like to know how to clear my entire history including the one that is used on the new tab section.

Did you drag a bookmark or history item to slots on the about:newtab page?
Changes manually made on the about:newtab page are stored in the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder under the pinnedLinks key and blockedLinks key.
If you delete the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder then you need to reset the <b>browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone</b> pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the <b>about:config</b> page and close and restart Firefox to assure that the chromeappsstore.sqlite file gets initialized properly.<br />
Otherwise the about:home might not be working.

  • How can I disable iMessages history?

How can i disable iMesage history? Under the settings for iMessages on OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion, I don't see any options to disable this. The only thing close to that is already unchecked: Save history when conversations are closed.

    Hi,
Messages still uses the com.apple.ichat.plist (and the other ones that had iChat in them for the accounts)
The two new ones for iMessages (com.apple.imservice.imessages.plist and com.apple.imessage.bag.plist) only hold the server info on one and the Apple ID and the Aliases you use with it in the other.
I have not discovered anything in any of the .plists that deal with how the "history' is saved (other than whether Chats are Saved on Closure).
In previous versions of iChat there have been hints at MacOSXHints that do various things such as this one that changes the order of the Info when Selecting iTunes Playing as th Status Message
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20050610163358263
To use it in Messages you have to change the iChatAgent bits to IMAgent.
I did search their site for 10.8 and Messages but found nothing that related to doing anything with the Saving or History of chats and conversations.
    I don't work for Apple.
My "knowledge" is centered around iChat and Messages, which I have been posting about since 2004.

  • Can't clear a file that keeps on dowloading from the download manager

I clicked a link (linking to a .jpeg) in an e-mail for something I purchased thinking it was an extra to the purchase, but afterwards I realised it was just an Image to accompany the e-mail.
The problem is I can't clear the download from the download manager and everytime Firefox starts it makes a connection to download the file. I tried clicking the "x" next to the download but this just paused the download. I have also tried clicking "Clear Downloads" in the download Library but this didn't help.
How can I remove this file from the download manager ?
    Thank you

Hey philipp, thanks for your answer! I wasn't aware it was a bug with the beta. I voted for it to be fixed.
    Thanks!

  • The Downloads keep getting stuck in the Browser download section

Even when they're completed it tells me "a few seconds remaining" yet I can find it in my PC. The download's Complete as in 5MB/5MB But it doesn't get off the Library and some times It Disappears from its destination(very Rarely). It's just that the downloads getting stuck in the Download Library and then the download starting again every time I start Firefox Again(I cant cancel the download it Just Pauses) sucks.

hello, this is a bug in the latest 32 beta 9 version which will be addressed in the release candidate 1 build which should be deployed via auto-updates to beta users later today.
a workaround for the moment would be to enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), right-click somewhere on the page and create a new string setting with the name '''browser.safebrowsing.appRepURL''' and value '''https://sb-ssl.google<i></i>.com/safebrowsing/clientreport/download?key=%GOOGLE_API_KEY%'''
for reference see [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1057764 bug #1057764] (please don't post in bug reports, but vote for the bug if you want to see it fixed)
