Disabling the Loupe

I don't know if it's just me but I find the loupe in Bridge pretty annoying. (I can see photographers with masses of photos enjoying it, but I know what's in my images).
Is there any way to disable it? Anytime I click on the preview up pops the loupe, and it's visually annoying. I haven't found anyway to get rid of the loupe other than going up a level and back and that's just silly.
Bridge help says:
To display the Loupe tool, click a selected image in the Preview panel.
To hide the Loupe tool, click it.
Click it? What, the loupe? Doesn't do anything.
Bridge help also gives the key command for activating it, but not to stop it.
I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but it bugs me floating around on my image.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Angus

Hi Olaf, I don't know if you have experience with a pen, but when you move it sometimes the nib will touch the tablet and that acts as a click. It's much more sensitive than a mouse click. And sometimes you can't avoid that when you work quickly. In all other programmes this isn't a problem because you can choose your tool, or deactivate your tool, but in Bridge your Loupe "Tool" is always "on".
i And a single left-click inside the loupe ( anywhere inside the loupe) will hide it immediately.
As I said above that works fine if you use a mouse but not with a Wacom. And please don't try and say the tablet is at fault. I use these tablets 8-9 hrs a day since years, and never once had a problem.
Cheers, A

  • Using the loupe causes preview to change

I pull up a raw in bridge (same thing happens in the preview slideshow btw) and all is good.. but if I use the loupe to magnify once I close the magnify loupe the image totally changes. I'm guessing it's some default but I need help learning how to stop it from happening. I've checked my default for the raw images and it is NOT what I get after closing the zoom.
Does anyone know what I am talking about?

    Laryl,
If you really want a 100% or "1:1" sized preview of your camera's rendition of the RAW data instead of Camera Raw's rendition, then shoot in RAW+JPEG mode and put the loupe on the JPEGs.
It's impossible to see the embedded preview in the loupe because the loop shows a 100% view, and the embedded JPEG previews are not full-size images. I suppose we could disable the loupe if you are viewing an embedded preview, but I'm not sure that would really be helpful.
The reason that the preview is updated to the Camera Raw render after you use the loupe, even if you have the "Prefer Embedded" turned on is that once we have to generate the 100% preview to show it in the loop, we thought it was worse to have the appearance of the image in the loupe and preview mismatched.
For example, imagine you have a file with ACR settings which convert it to grayscale, but you are browsing the file in Bridge with Prefer Embedded turned on. When the previews are initially cached you see the embedded, color preview. Then you bring up the loupe. Now, since there is no 100% embedded preview available, we have to get a high-quality preview at 100% from camera raw--which is grayscale. It looks pretty stupid (at least in my opinion) to have a loupe with grayscale pixels over a color preview, so Bridge replaces the embedded preview in the cache with a high quality (grayscale in this case) preview. Now the loupe and preview match. When you are done with the loupe, you could purge cache for the item if you really want the embedded preview to show up again in Bridge.
The primary goal of Bridge's previews and thumbnails is to literally pre-view what the file looks like when you open it in Photoshop or Camera Raw. Since the Camera Raw dialog is not going to show you the embedded JPEG, by default Bridge doesn't either. The option to show embedded previews is primarily there to speed the editing process. You gain preview-caching speed at the expense of fidelity between the Bridge preview and Camera Raw.
The ACR defaults only change if you change them, so you are in control of what is going on shoot to shoot. If you want to "bake" the current default into the settings for a RAW file so the appearance doesn't change when you modify the defaults again do the following...
    1. Open the files in the Camera Raw dialog.
    2. Click the Select All button in the filmstrip.
    3. Select "Export Settings to XMP" from the fly-out menu by the settings sliders.

I need to disable the startup sound on the macbook pro 7,1 running 10.6.8.  If anyone can give me info I would appreciate it.

Look for Startup Sound on Macupdate.com
You really shouldn't turn it off, as if there is a error you won't be able to hear the beep codes.
However you can lower the volume.

How do I disable the automatic startup on HP Photosmart Premier when I turn my computer on?
Windows XP, SP3 operating system recently re-installed so I also reinstalled my printer software.  Now, for some reason, each time I turn my computer on, my HP Photosmart C4100 all-in-one photosmart premier software opens.  It is not in my startup.  This slows down my computer terribly, which is why I never used the program before my re-install.  How can I disable this feature?  I only print, I don't use it for photos.
    Any help here is appreciated.

Run msconfig.exe from the start button (type in msconfig).  When it comes up go to the Startup tab and find and deselect the HP product you do not want to start.  Save and reboot computer.  Now try.

  • How do I disable the Symantics TouchPad on my HP Envy 14t notebook?

I have tried to modify the sensitivity of the touchpad on my laptop, but it's still so touchy it's driving me crazy. The other issues I looked at here in the Community forum don't pertain to the machine or utilities I have.
I want to COMPLETELY DISABLE it and use a plug-in mouse.  Where is the option to disable the touchpad?
I have uninstalled the Symantic TouchPad driver, but the touchpad still shows up as a device as "PS/2 Compatible Mouse." When I open its Mouse Properties dialog, on the Driver tab, the Disable button is grayed out.
How do I COMPELTELY DISABLE the touchpad and just use a plug-in mouse on the HP Envy 14t notebook?
    This question was solved.

    @kiltinshire,
Thanks for posting back.  As you may be aware there are multiple versions of HP notebooks, most control functions are found in the user guide.  If you can not find it there then you would have to go to how to disable hard ware in windows.  That is a microsoft topic.
You normally have 2 choices to physically shut it off.  First the touchpad has a little button in a corner depending on model.  Use a function key it will have a diagram of a square and a finger.  These methods have been used for years for turning your touchpad off.
Next is just google how to turn off touchpad in windows 8.  Here is a couple links that you may find useful that I found using that search.
    TouchPad and Keyboard
How to Enable and Disable Touch Pad on HP ENVY
Disable Laptop Touchpad in Windows 8 / 7
How to disable laptop touch pad in windows 8
Now if you are actually trying to find a way of permanently shutting off the touchpad so that it does not come on again you will have to dig into Windows help for that.  If Windows sees the hardware at start up it will by default try and load the base driver for it and most likely turn it on when you reboot.
The only other way is to open up your notebook and disconnect the cable that goes from the touch pad to the motherboard so that does not happen.
    I am hoping that helps.
Thank you again for posting and have a great day.

  • How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?

How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?
I have a few hundred computers running Adobe Flash Player.
The operation system is Windows XP.
They are Compaq 6005 desktop PC’s, with an inbuilt ATI radeon HD 4200 video card.
We have a persistent issue where viewing a flash video (e.g. something on youtube) causes the video card driver to crash.  You are left with no video signal to the monitor.  Audio continues and the computer still responds to commands. This only happens when watching flash video.
    We have tried:
    Updating flash plugin (numerous versions)
Updating the video card drivers (we have tried the last three video card driver versions, including the HP drivers and ATI drivers)
Updating the browsers (this problem happens with IE8/9 and Firefox10/11/12)
There seems to be two ways to work round this issue.  One is to disable the video acceleration in the ‘troubleshoot’ section in the advanced part of the display settings area in windows.  The other way is to start a flash video, right click, go to ‘settings’ and untick the box marked ‘Enable Hardware Acceleration’.
Doing either of these things allows the user to view flash videos with no apparent issues.
Is there a way to disable the hardware acceleration in Flash without visiting the PC?  Perhaps an undocumented option in the mms.cfg file? I understand that you can use an option to skip the video card check, and so force hardware acceleration on, can you do the opposite?
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel.

    Hi.
I have had over 200 views, and no suggestions as to how this could be fixed.
I have also posted in the general flash forum, that thread has fewer views.
If I should put this question in a different forum please let me know which one.
If what I am asking is not possible is there a mechanism for escalating this issue or requesting a feature for the next version of flash?
    Thanks.

  • Is there a way to disable the headphone jack?

A few months ago my macbook pro 2012 (non retina) fell and the headphone jack was destroyed in the process, and the sound on my internal speakers no longer work. The apple genius said that the only way to get my headphones and speakers working again would be to replace the logic board. What I'm wondering is if there's a command to type into the terminal that would just bypass the headphone jack entirely so that I could at least get sound through my speakers. Like I said, there's no hope of saving my headphone jack so I don't need advice about how to re-enable it. I'm hoping for a command for terminal to disable the headphone jack so that I can hear sound through my internal speakers. Help?

Well you have to take a break, sleep, etc sometime!  The repair may take just a few minutes.
Your other option would be search on the Fixit website and YouTube's "how to tutorials."

  • Is there a way to disable the AppleTV remote control on a MacBook?

I often work on my MacBook Pro while watching shows using Apple TV, but every time I pause or play something on the AppleTV, the remote signal also activates iTunes on my MacBook Pro.  I pretty much never use the remote to control my MacBook Pro.  Is there a setting for disabling the IR receiver or for just telling the MacBook to ignore requests from a remote?

You can disable the IR receiver of the MacBook. To do it, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy, and press the padlock to sign in as an administrator. Then, press "Advanced" and tick the option to disable the IR receiver.

Why can I not disable the guest user in the 10.8.2 update? I have never enabled the guest user, but after the update, it was automatically enabled with a "managed" tag. It is not selectable even after entering my admin password to unlock the options. I was able to select the account under "parental controls", but again, could not delete it. Why Apple? Why?!!????

SOLVED Ok. I actually was able to disable it. I had to actually log in as the guest user to make it accessible in the preference window. Then I disabled it and logged out. Apologies if this was obvious for some people, but I have had some sort of issue with something every update since Snow Leopard.

  • Satellite L305 - How to disable the integrated webcam?

I want to be able to use my logitech webcam (plugged into USB Port) instead of chicony integrated cam because I like it better. When I go on some chatting sites w video option the site usually selects the integrated cam and (from settings) does not SEE the other one whether I turned it on or not.
Can someone help? My search didn't return anything useful-- strange
    Thanks

    Hi buddy,
I agree with the previous user. Just disable the webcam in device manager if you make a right click on it and select disable. This is the easiest way in my opinion and also if you want to enable the webcam again.
Alternative have a look in BIOS. On my Toshiba notebook its also possible to disable the internal webcam in BIOS.
Please write some feedback if it worked or not. ;)

If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the
Back Up option. If you have just backed up the device, it is not necessary
              to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore or have forgotten your restrictions passcode, then restore as New.
If you are restoring to fix a forgotten Restrictions Code or as a New device, then skip Step 9 and restore as New.
