Disabling the Mail Application?

I'm running 10.6.8 on an original 2006 Macbook Pro.  I've ALWAYS had a problem with my "Mail" application!!!  I NEVER use it!!!  I actually HATE it!!!
But I LOVE using the "Calendar" application.
My problem occurs when my turning on my computer and I get a "Calendar Alert".  I guess the Calendar is somehow linked to "Mail" and it tries to launch "Mail" EVERY SINGLE TIME I have a Calendar Alert!!!  It's soooo ANNOYING!!!!
The ONLY way to get "Mail" NOT to launch is by turning off the "alarms" or "alerts" for every single event in my Calendar.  It's horrible.  For example, I create a new event in my Calendar, save it, then go back into it and turn off the alarms.  After years of experience, this seems like the ONLY way to NOT get "Mail" to launch.
Therefore, I deleted the "Mail" application!!!  I could've sworn that this solved my problem, in the past.  But I recently wiped/restored my computer, and therefore, had to delete "Mail" all over again.
NOW, when I turn on my laptop and I have a Calendar alert, "Mail" still tries to launch and a window pops up trying to locate the "Mail" application.  I've attached a screenshot of the window.
Does anybody have any ideas for me???  Like I said, I've deleted the Mail app before and it seemed to not cause any problems.  But now I'm getting this terrible pop up window.
And like I also said, if I were to leave the Mail app on my computer, and God forbid, forget to turn off the alarms for a new event (which I like using the alarms sometimes), then the Mail app launches, and usually freezes because I don't have it linked to any of my email accounts!!!
This is just ALL AROUND TERRIBLE!!!!!!  PLEASE HELP ME!!!!  THANK YOU!!!!!!!  I HOPE THIS MADE SENSE!!!!!!!!!!

Your problem isn't Mail.app your problem is that you are using a script that expects Mail to be installed.
What is the script that is so important to the calendar events? If you can find the raw Applescript & edit out the references to Mail this nonsense should stop.
Are you trying to use the built in 'email alert' type of iCal alarm? I don't think that can ever work if you refuse to use Mail. I think you will need another Applescript to access your email client instead (or use a message alert type).
If you have a lot of alerts set to use email alerts it will be tough to find them & delete the action, I suppose you can export each calendar & then open the calendar.ICS file in a text editor. That should allow you to find the lines with the 'ACTION:EMAIL' line which need editing for that event.
I suspect sending invitations will also fail, so you will need to forget about that feature too.

  • Can I uninstall the Mail application?

    Hi,
I would like to disable the Mail application. I've disabled my email account, within Mail. However, if I right click on a "pic" that I want to email, the system will still only select the Mail application to send it. I would prefer to be able to select "Outlook" to send the pic. Is this possible? Thank You.

Not sure if there is a way to delete or disable Mail?
What I do is, export the image(s) from iPhoto to my desktop and then Attach the image(s) to my AT&T Yahoo mail.

  • TS1506 I have a problem opening some email attachments. They will not open in the mail application on an IPad Air

I recently upgraded from an iPad 1 to an Air. One of its main uses is to avoid printing volumes of papers for meetings, so the abilty to open attachments with mail is pretty important.
There are some attachments that will not open in the mail application on an iPad Air. Some in the same format do (docx). They do open in Mail on my MacBook, and iPad1, or if I go to webmail on any device including a Blackberry, so it is not a file corruption problem.  The problem persists on different networks. Other emails from the same sender do work. It seems to be specifically related to IOS 7 or the Mail app. Quickview won't work, nor will opening with a range of Apps which report a file error.
There was an historical problem with Apple garbling pdf files, but this is a new one on me.
All this is a shame because it is opening emails in attachments that was one of my main reasons for buying an Air.
Does anyone know of the cause? A solution?

    What about a work-around?
Ios 7.1 etc. has a problem with communicating with exchange.  There are lots of reports of problems with pdf files.

  • How can I set up hotmail in the mail application

    Hi
How can I set the mail application to include hotmail? I've been able to add it, but it doesn't sync read and unread messages. I know iPhones used to have the same problem, but after iOS5, there was an option to include mail from hotmail. Is there an option to include hotmail now in Mail, as I can't find it.
Also, as I've just switched from Windows to Mac, is there a button on Mac for home and end like Windows has?
    Thanks

Unfortunately hotmail requires you to pay a fee to have your e-mail go through a mail application, like Apple Mail. Contact their customer service to see about fees, as well as set up process.

  • The mail application on my I-Mac dates all mail, whether sent or received, as 5th (of whatever month it is). The computer clock is working, so it's not that. And the time seems to be right. I have no problem with my MacBook. Can anyone help, please?

The computer clock is fine. I have no problem with my MacBook - just with the I-Mac. Any ideas, please?

    OK Vicky, good clues...
    See if this helps...
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over. See if there are duplicates, should be one for Incoming & one for Outgoing.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • Mail unexpectedly quits when I try to open the Mail Application 4.5 and system is 10.6.8

Mail unexpectedly quits when I try to open the Mail Application 4.5.
Any ideas how to resolve this?
I have tried the suggestions already given on Lists, and nothing has yet worked...

    10.6.8 is not Mountain Lion.
How big is your hard drive, and how full is it?
Did you happen to download any system cache cleaners?  Those can damage its ability to function.
    Have you tried repairing permissions?
    Is your data backed up?
    Is Spotlight indexed?
Is the Mail trying to load an IMAP, POP or Exchange account?

Thanks Paul; but, taking your suggestion didn't solve the problem.  As mail is part of the OS, the updates don't have the capacity to reinstall applications; so, I had to reinstall the OS.  I now have my mail back (although it didn't appear on the dock--I had to go to applications and activate it and then put it back in the dock.  Thanks again for trying.

  • What is it with the application "mail" and the Yahoo mail servers that is in conflict all the time. We have reconfigured the settings and done everything possible and the "mail" application is still conflicted.... Running Lion 10.7.4

I know it is a pretty long question and am unsure if it can be answered, but have had just a lot of trouble with the Yahoo mail servers... Where could a man go and get the mail application, I can not find it in the app store. It is my thought maybe to just replace the app I have with another mail application and reconfigure everything and go from there. But I do not know where the mail application can be found.

See this blog posting for Yahoo mail set-up details for the Apple Mail.app tool.

  • I can't find the mail application

Hi, I just bought a second-hand macbook air (model 2009, os x leopard) and I can't find the mail application. Maybe the previous owner deleted it or something? If so, how can I get it back? (sorry for bad English)

This is a photo of what i see. It's completely different! The text on the DVD says: Applications Install DVD. it must be it
    This is not correct.
I have never seen an Applications Install DVD.
I said to use the OS install DVD. It should be in:
My Leopard install DVD looks like this:

  • Can't open the mail application since updating to 10.6.6

    Hi,
Since I updated to 10.6.6 I can no longer open my mail application. I get a message stating that "You have version 4.3 (1081/1082) of mail. It can not be used with the Mac OS X Version 10.6.6."
When I was updating my mail was not in the application folder but within a separate folder in the app folder, so it may not have been updated.
Now my question is how do I solve this, I can't work properly without the mail application!
    Thank you!
    Svanton

    Hi Svanton,
One suggestion would be to take the Mail App out of the folder you put it in and then download and install the 10 6 6 Combo Update…
    Available Here...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
I would also recommend doing a Permissions Repair both Before and After running the Update…
    Hope this Helps,
    Cheers

  • The Mail application on my iMac is making the entire computer act up.

I tried printing off my itinerary for my flight I'm taking tomorrow. The email was sent from WestJet directly to my email within the Mail application. When I tried to print the email itself, my computer started acting weird and froze, so I shut off the computer, and rebooted it (so I thought). When I turned it back on, none of the processes had stopped, and it just started back up to where it was before. My computer was no longer being recognized as my own for some reason. I originally got the computer used from a family member, and it was recognizing the computer as his, as if it had just rebooted from a previous date when he had owned the computer itself. It showed his name in all of the applications, and when I tried opening Microsoft Word to print it from there, it acted as if I had never run the application before (The previous owner never had the application installed). The default printer was not mine, although the drivers for my printer were still downloaded, and the printer was being recognized. The printer was the previous owner's. I just tried printing another document with just plain text, and it printed fine. No errors, (after I made the default printer back to mine) and nothing went wrong whatsoever. No lag time between when I clicked on print, and the actual printing of the document.
Just wanting to see if anyone has encountered this problem before I have. IT just seems weird that it would "act" as if it had booted from a previous date.
    Thanks,
    Brad.

    Hey Leonard1207,
You may want to try removing your mail account from the Mail application, then re-adding it:

  • How to limit the number of  emails the  mail application downloads.

I have over 5000 emails in my online account and I do not want mail do download more than 50 of my newest emails to be downloaded into the mail application. Is there a way to limit how many emails the mail application downloads? Thanks.

This question cannot really be addressed without knowing whether you are using a POP or IMAP account? Since a POP account only downloads new emails from a POP3 server, if using the same computer, then I assume you have an IMAP account? With an IMAP account, where the Inbox actually resides on the server, only the messages you seek to read are downloaded, if in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced you choose an option under "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing" to not keep any copies. Of course all messages remain online on the server.
    More info if not applicable.
