Disabling the phone

Hello. Im in the UK but expecting to get an iphone when they get released over here. My question is: can the phone part be disabled so only the ipod can be used. For example, if im in bed and just want to listen to my ipod, can i turn the phone off and just listen to music??

rbart...yes you can, the function is called "airplane mode" By activating this you turn all wifi and phone options off and can still use the phone in iPod/iVideo mode.
If you turn the phone completely "off" then ALL functions are inoperable. Hope that answers your question.

Highlight the Ethernet option and click the gear icon at the bottom of the panel. There should be an option to, Make service inactive.....

Did you transfer the telephone number from the old phone to the new phone? If you did, I don't see how you could still have cellular service, even if you turned it off in settings.

I totally hate this feature where phone number's digits are grouped like (xxx) xxx-yyyy. I'm not used to this and even if it makes sense for americans I don't like it and I want it disabled. How do I do that?

Go to Settings > General > International > Region Format and select something other than United States (to keep the language in English, you can select United Kingdom - the phone number format there is 4085551212, no ()- in there). Romania is not a choice in the locations, yet (probably in a future update).

How to disable the phone aspect of the iPhone?

Hi guys
This just recently hit me...
I travel a lot - and listening to my iPod on the plane is what usually gets me through the trip.
I am considering selling my iPod and phone and buying an iPhone.
But.. well... How can i listen to my music when phones aren't allowed to be on during the flight?
Is there some way to disable or temporarily turn off the phone aspect of the iPhone so it can just be used for music/videos/photos?

Converting iPhone 4S to iTouch and would rather not reset it. How can I disable the phone number from the list of valid iMessage and FaceTime contact points? The line item is shaded in each.

I've changed the Apple IDs for iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime. I've turned cellular off. I even changed the cellphone number in the phone settings to a 555 garbage number. I'm guessing the number is some how attached to the SIM card? Is there any way to solve this short of resetting the phone and starting from scratch? Backups to iCloud and iTunes were done before any changes took place.

does anyone know of a way to actually tuen the phone bit off and just use the camera and video camera as to not interfere with the planes instruments i.e. no mobile phones allowed.

Briefly press power and then select the OFFLINE profile.
This will turn off all radios.
Just be aware that on some flights some flight attendants may not allow phone usage even in OFFLINE mode.

Option to disable the "slide to call" feature for missed calls from lock screen

I realized that when the iphone (running iOS5) is locked, the“Slide to Call” allows anyone to make an outgoing call to the missed calls from a locked phone (with passcode). This may allow malicious and unwanted calls to be made from a locked phone by anyone having access to the phone and defeats the purpose of having the phone locked by a passcode.
Don't get me wrong, it is nice feature for people who don't care about locking their phone, but I believe there should be an option to disable the “slide to call” or at least require password before allowing the outgoing call to go through.
At this point the only option that I see is to disable the phone related notifications from lock screen, which prevents all phone related notifications to be displayed on lock screen (missed or voicemail). This is not a desired solution.....
This is the first time in the history of iOSes, that a user can make outgoing calls from a locked phone with a passcode. Even the voice commands (for dialling a number) have option to be disabled on locked screen.
I was wondering if anybody else feels the same way about this? or have a solution?

Actually I was very surprised when I discovered that!
In addition to this, when you actually slide a missed call, it calls the person and when you end the call, the notification of the missed call is still present! So that person can be called again and again and again.
This is a serious issue that Apple has overlooked!
Please secure the iOS 5.
