Do you mean Multi User dev environment as MUDE?
If so, there is no disadvantage or advantage technically. it all depends on the project. Multi user environment requires a process to manage the merging rpd, the coordinations among developers, its more of a cost instead of disadvantage.

Working in MUD: after deleting column whole table gets lost

Good morning community,
we do have a problem with the obiee admin tool.
we just migrated to version 11.1.1.6.6.
Now a colleague of mine worked with the MUD. He checked out the RPD-file and wanted to delete a column from a table within the presentation layer. Then he checked in this change again. He Uploaded the file to the server and everything is working fine.
Now the problem:
When he checked it out again, he saw that the full table was "deleted", but not only in the presentation layer, also in the business modell and the physical layer.
He opened the RPD file locally and there everything was okay.
Our first idea that the admin tool lost the link of these tables to the project couldn't be confirmed.
So we are asking you :-)
Maybe someone of you had this problem too and can explain how he solved it.

Then he checked in this change again. He Uploaded the file to the server and everything is working fine.It should not be the case please confirm below
1. Uploaded means ? directly moved to MUD server instead of doing checking or from MUD to system where BI installed (NQSconfig.ini) ?
2. I'm sure he deleted the table instead of column (track it from MUD History in file option -->)
3. Link will break when (Tables in BMM & Physical ) a fact table is deleted so automatically associated dims will go off
4. Get the latest version . XXX (from MUD server) then change it to .rpd and deploy to get rid of issue

The best way i found was to put a equals and then double quotes... this only works for excel however it will allow you to cut and paste (ie to use the value to search in Oracle) and also to do vlookups.
In a bit more detail:
- I used word to generate my default table
- this created a field INVOICE_NUM
- in the cell in the table i put = " before the INVOICE_NUM field and then put the closing " afterwards.
The theory is that excel will concatenate the values together... because it has quotes around it, it will treat it as a string rather than simply a value.
For any other formats this will not work.
I'm guessing most people have moved on and resolved this some other way, but just thought I'd share the wealth!

Disadvantages of using "0" zero as first value in a generated sequence

Does anyone have any experience with the benefits/disadvantages of using a value of 0 "zero" as the first value generated in a sequence that is also populated in a table. My past experience has always used the values of 1 "one" as the first generated value from a sequence.

Benefit: You get use one "more" number from the list of values that can possibly be generated by the sequence. If you are start from '1', you have missed out on '0' :-)
Disadvantages: If any of the queries have predicate like "sequence_generated_column_value > 0" and that your sequence starts from zero, the record with sequence_generated_column_value=0 will not appear in result set for that query (assuming it satisfies other conditions).
May be there are many mores benefits/disadvantages to add to this list :-)

I would like to suggest a couple of disadvantages of LSMW.
Here are a few scenarios------>
1. Time consumption -
> IDOC processing plays a vital role. The changes made to the IDOC is therefore very time consuming.
2. In term of BAPI -
> Incomplete in terms of input fields of a particular transaction, rather it is not always complete.
3. In terms of Direct Input -
> No enjoy transactions and incomplete in terms of input fields of a particular transaction.
4. In terms of Batch input -
> Slow in terms of new recordings to be done, but BDCs are much simpler in that terms.
This factor also depends upon the user settings, The kind of processing which is foreground and background.

What are the disadvantages of maintaining the source list?

Hi,
I understand that once source list is activated for plant in customizations, it has to be maintained for all the materials which are extended for the said plant, Is it true? Can I maintain only for selected materials?
I also understand if it is maintained for material then, we can not create PO for other source for which it has not be maintained in source list.

There are no disadvantages if you maintain source list. Infact it helps lot of other functionalities other than purchasing. if you make source liost mandatory then it it required that for that particular material you need to have sourcelist in Txn ME01. You can have list of vendors who are approved and put all of them in the source list for the material. Yes you can always have independent sourcelist for a single material. Unless until you make it mandatory in customising there is no problem in PO creation. If you have made it mandatory and you wish to create a PO for a new vendor who is not there in Source list then it is not possible to create a PO. However you can add the new vendor in the source list and go on creating the PO.

Issue with OBIEE 10.1.3.4.2 in MUDE mode

Can any one help me in getting bug list of OBIEE 10.1.3.4.2?
Actually we are experiencing issues in using MUDE. When creating any new logical or use any physical objects by creating alias to it we get issue with the newly created objects. Hence we are not able to merge the changes to the original RPD. Though we are able to achieve the same in non-MUDE mode (offline).
Is there any restriction in 'Projects' that we create for using MUDE that no new objects are to be created and only existing objects to be used? Or is this a fresh bug in 10.1.3.4.2?

Best Practice for MUD Environment

Hi Guys,
I initially thought of using Merge Repository as an option to MUD Environment.
But I found that while merging repositories, You have to either accept changes from Modified or Current Repository.
What if I have 2 developers working parallel in a single Presentation Folder?
Then I though Project based MUD Implementation will be the only option but in that Developers will have power to keep or remove changes from other developer.
Now I am confused how I can get multiple users develop single RPD.
Please let me know what's the best practice used?

Below some explanations. Follow the links, if you want more information. Personnaly, I prefer to set up a MUD environment.
Software Configuration Management
By default, the Oracle BI repository development environment is not set up for multiple users. However, online editing makes it possible for multiple developers to work simultaneously, though this may not be an efficient methodology, and can result in conflicts, because developers can potentially overwrite each other's work.
To develop a repository in a concurrent version environment, you have several choices :
* first of all, you can send the repository to the developper, keep a copy, retrieve it after modification and perform an [Merge Repository|http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/obiee_repository_merge|Merge Repository]
* second, you can set up a [multiuser environment (MUD)|http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/analytic/obiee/multiuser_environment] which use the notion of Projects to split the work area. It would permit developers to modify a repository simultaneously and then check in changes.
The import option which permit to import a subset of a repository to an other repository, work but is deprecated.

OBIEE Admin Tool 11.1.1.6.0 - Sources folders missing after merge in MUD

Hi,
We are using OBIEE 11.1.1.6.0 Repo Version 318 with Multi User Development (MUD).
After few development checkins and checkouts from MUD repository, Sources folders disappeared for all Logical tables in BMM Layer. We can see Business Model Diagram and all joins and other info. All the attributes are mapped correctly.
We can double click the LT and see all the sources in Source Tab. Any idea what caused it how to fix it ?

42.10.3.7 Oracle BI Repository Can Become Corrupt When Objects Are Deleted in MUD Environments
Impacted Releases: 11.1.1.6.0
If you use the multiuser development (MUD) environment, be aware that an issue has been identified that causes the Oracle BI repository to become corrupt when MUD objects are deleted. The corruption manifests itself as crashes during consistency checks and when certain utilities are run, such as extractprojects.
To resolve this issue, download and apply patch 13560202. See Section 42.1.1, "Obtaining Patches from My Oracle Support" for more information about downloading patches.

Privilege problem in MUD, please help

When I was setting up MUD as SH.rpd following http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/bi_ee_1013/mude/mude.htm, i found a privilege problem.
After I merged Karen.rpd into local shared_sh.rpd, the shared_sh.rpd window opened, if now I perform "Publish to Network", it works well
but if I go on modifying this shared_sh.rpd, then perform "Publish to Network", it works well too... I just call the modify in this step "Modify A".
In my understand, the shared_sh.rpd must be read-only after merging, and what we can do only is checkinig global consistency or publish to network
Is it a bug of BIEE? if not, please tell me the reason.

MUD is really half baked tool regarding security. If you do it, it will allow you to modify it. The tool does not warn you. So, its your responsibility to make sure that once you check in, you also publish it to network. Each cycle has to be always complete. CheckOut --> Merge --> CheckIn -->Publish to Network.
If not, you are left with orphan rpds flying around in your local development rpd folder.

OBIEE 11.1.1.6.X MUD - Empty Presentation Folders Disappearing after checkout

Hello ,
We are facing an issue when checking out a project from Master Repository configured in MUD environment.
Empty presentation folders in subject area's are disappearing when a project is checked out.
I confirmed Master repository has all the empty folders in Presentation Layer Subject Area, but the checked out repository does not have them.
Did anyone encounter this issue? Do you know if there is a patch supporting OBIEE 11.1.1.6.X version.

You most probably haven't set Application Roles in EM for external users.
Users belonging to application roles are only allowed to access OBI.
Check the existing BIConsumer application role, see if you can add external users, and if not, use 'Create Like'.

Error while check in rpd -MUD

Hi experts,
We are using obiee 10 G and have cluster environment and i configured our rpd for MUD.
I am able to check out and make my changes but when trying to check in i get the error: This is in use by another user.
No user is using it.
Any suggestion please.

Hi,
I use to have the problem quite often but i was in a non-clustered env. While checking in it will show the username who ha lovked it. Somebody might have it checked out and left it like that without checking in.
1.) Please check who had checked it out the last, and ask him to do a dummy check in and check out.
2.) Other option is to delete the RPD from the shared location and put a last backup RPD if no big change has gone it.

What could be the disadvantage of the "AUTO_SPACE_ADVISOR_JOB" in 10g RAC?

The database is 2 node RAC database on 32 bit windows 2003 EE SP1.
What could be the pros and "CONS" of the "AUTO_SPACE_ADVISOR_JOB" job
in 10g RAC?
It is one of advisor, and thus I think it is not required.
What could be the disadvantage of AUTO_SPACE_ADVISOR_JOB
in terms of PERFORMANCE in 2 node RAC environment?
The 2 node RAC database seems to be experiencing performance degrade
due to default jobs on installation such as AUTO_SPACE_ADVISOR_JOB and
GATHER_STATS_JOB.
I am looking forwared to hearing your experience and advice.

1) What is the magnitude of the waits you're seeing? Over what time frame?
--> I found the above wait events in the top 5 wait event section from AWR report.
The AWR snapshot time frame is one hour.
--> On a regular basis(maybe, one or two week), the database hangs, causing a number of library cache related wait events and gc related wait event.
2) If the system is hanging and not doing a log switch, have you debugged that process? I'd be hard-pressed to imagine how library cache events would be related to this sort of thing. I would tend to suspect a hardware/ RAC install/ RAC config issue.
--> I applogize for insufficient information. I took "system state dump" and "hang analyze" at the time of database hang.
--> It is hard for me to understand the system dump file. I reported those files to Oracle Support, but no answer was returned now.
--> As you said, it may be caused by different issues. I will try to investigate other factors.
3) Why do you "guess that when gather_database_stats tries to get statistics about AWR snapshot objects, it causes a number of library cache invalidation and dictionary cache reload between two nodes?"
--> I investigated AWR reports during the period of database hang. I found the above wait events with gather_database_stats in common. That is all why I suspect "gather_database_stats" job.
Specifically regarding the statistics gathering job, is your application is doing something unusual that forces the default statistics job to gather statistics regularly on a substantial fraction of your tables forcing your application to re-parse a substantial fraction of its SQL? Do you have an alternate method for gathering statistics that is going to generate less load and/or invalidate fewer SQL statements? Is your application reusing SQL (i.e. using bind variables)?
--> Currently, we have not deployed all part of an application. At this point, the data is about 10 Mega. The application is using bind variables, but I also could see high number of sql version count. I am inspecting why.
--> I am considering gathering statistics manually (only application schema, not all database objects)
4) What makes you believe that the AWR snapshot process is causing problems?
--> I applogize for insufficient explanation. I mean the problems occur when "gather_database_stats" job takes statistics of "AWR snapshot data",
because application data is very very small, only 10 Mega and 28 tables.
Currently, we have deployed only 1 % of the entire application.
● This is the first time I manage a RAC database. I think a RAC database is something different from a single database.
I do not think the same problem could occur in a single database.
