Disapearing Apple - Unknown Device - Making Sounds

Hi all -
So here is the deal. I have an 15G iPod with Dock Connector -- the one before the turnie wheel. I am now trying to install this iPod on my computer for the first time. I plug the iPod into the adaptor - adaptor into a working outlet and the apple appears then disappears -- I have pluged and unpluged -- I have tried different outlets -- there is no consistancey except that the apple SOMETIMES appears -- but mainly its blank. One time I got a battery bar with a ! triangle -- but that was just once.
SECOND issue -- I have yet to configure this iPod because when I connect it to the USB port -- I get the USB Device Not Recognized. So I went to the Device Manager -- it's there but as an Unknown Device. The computer does not recognize the device ANYWHERE but in the Device Manager as an Unknown Device. Oh! And when I did the trouble shoot thing on the error message -- it said "No Drivers are installed for this device."
Is there a driver I am missing? How do I get my iPod to charge and to be recognized?

Oh! Oh! One more bit of information -- the iPod is getting warm when plugged in AND its making sounds.
Thanks for any help!!!

  • Iphone 5 fallen in water drained for around 20 secs, kept in rice bag for 2 days, worked perfectly for 6 hrs! now it shows to restore, after restoring during activation it says unknown device contact apple care.

hello, i have an iphone 5 it just fell into water and was in there for around 20seconds. I've seen on many of websites saying to keep it in a rice bag for 48 hours nd said it may work so i've done the same. I took out my phone from dat rice bag yesterday which worked perfectly alright for 6 hours and then switched off automatically! when i connected it to itunes it detected as a recovery device which after recovery during activation it shows as an unknown device! been working on it soo long! i live in mauritius here i have no official apple store but my phone is still under warranty. Please help me!!

When your phone was exposed to water, your warranty/support was voided, so you no longer have any warranty. An out of warranty exchange, from Apple, is US $269. Call AppleCare or whoever handles support where you live.

  • Ipod Touch not being recognised/unknown device

Ipod Touch not being recognised - help!?
    It says it's a code 43 - Unknown device/device not recognised. Doesn't sound good.
Tried all of the things the itunes website suggested such as of course turning it off and on again, restarting services, reinstalling itunes. I know from experience that when you take it in to the shop they want to charge you almost as much as you bought it for to fix a minor problem. Thanks

    Hi,
Reinstalling iTunes *will not* erase your music library.
As a matter of course I do, and in fact Apple recommend that you back up your music library, there is an option to do this under "File" in iTunes. It is really quite sensible to have your purchased and other music files saved elsewhere as well as on your main hard drive, it can save a lot of time and hassle.
    Good luck,
    Dud.

  • Work-around to "unknown device" problem

I found a work-around to the "unknown device" problem, a pain to do, but much less painful than any alternatives I've found so far.
In my case, I can connect my Ipod one time. After I eject it, if I reconnect, I get the Unknown Device error. That's where this work-around comes in.
There is an INF file (a Windows hardware configuration file) in the Windows\INF directory that has a name that will be specific to your computer. Once you determine that file, you need to re-install it. Re-installing it allows the Ipod to be recognized the next time it is connected. These are the steps:
    1) Determine the file name on your computer. You only need to do this one time, and then remember the name. Using Regedit, navigate to HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-44455354 0000}. Then do an Edit / Find for "ipod" without the quotes, making sure that "Data" is checked and "Match whole string only" is not checked. It should find "Apple iPod USB Driver" in the "DriverDesc" value in one of the sub-keys. There will be another value called "InfPath". The data for that is the file name for the INF file on your computer. On my computer it is oem51.inf. It will be something like that on yours.
    2) In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Windows\Inf and find that file. In addition to "oem??.inf", there will be an "oem??.pnf" (same numbers), which is a binary version of the .inf file. Delete that file, or rename it if you prefer. If it exists, step 3 will not work.
    3) Right click on the .inf file and select Install. The computer will chug for a few seconds. The .pnf file should reappear and, more importantly, your iPod should now be able to connect one time. At least it does for me.
I hope that Apple puts out a fix for this problem sometime soon. Meanwhile, doing steps 2 and 3 every time I want to connect is annoying, but bearable.

I would like to apologize for posting this message. I promise that it did work and did seem to be the solution at the time I posted it, but it helps me no longer. My Ipod was recognized several consecutive times after I posted this with no work-around, but then it became an unknown device again, and there it stays, seemingly forever.
I am a highly skilled and experienced Windows system programmer, and this has me stumped. I apologize for any time that my message may have wasted for others. I have also tried every other solution that has been posted here and elsewhere, and none work.
I would recommend that Apple pay me a lot of money to find and fix this problem. Short of that, they should pay someone else to fix it. To have this many fatal problems for so many people should be considered unacceptable. Until a fix is available, I shall just be happy that I got as much onto my Ipod as I did before it became unavailable.

    What should be the problem?

There could be a few reasons, a common one is bad DVDs or a burner going bad.

Some videos that are taken with my iphone's camera are not making sounds, this problem occured today to all videos i recorded starting from today, please help

It also takes time for the photos to be transferred out of your iPhone and into Photo stream on Apple's iCloud servers.
Note that this can't happen if your iPhone is not connected to a WiFi network:
When you enable My Photo Stream on your devices, all new photos you take or import to those devices will be automatically added to your photo stream.
iOS devices: New photos you take are automatically uploaded to your photo stream when you leave the Camera app and are connected to Wi-Fi. My Photo Stream does not push photos over cellular connections.
Macs: Any new photos you import to iPhoto or Aperture begin uploading automatically when you have a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. Or you can change your iPhoto or Aperture preferences so that only photos you manually add to My Photo Stream are uploaded.
PC with iCloud Control Panel 2.0 or later: Open a Windows Explorer window and under Favorites select iCloud Photos if you are using iCloud Control Panel 3.0 (or Photo Stream if you are using 2.0 to 2.1.2). Open My Photo Stream. Click the "Add photos" button. Select the photos to import to My Photo Stream, then click Open.

  • AirPort Utility unable to find any Apple Express devices.

Help! This is getting desperate. I bought an AEX for streaming music to my hifi. Installed it yesterday and it worked on both my desktop (running Vista) and my laptop (running XP). However I was experiencing sound dropouts on the Vista machine so, having researched on this forum, I tried to change a couple of settings in my wireless router (D Link DI524) to try and cure the problem.
My wireless network is still working fine but since making the changes the AirPort Utility software just keeps telling me that it is unable to find any Apple Express devices and I cannot make a connection. It is the same on both my desktop and my laptop.
I can't see why changing security settings in the router should prevent the Utility from connecting with the device as it has to do this during set up anyway to be incorporated into the network. I have tried a full re-set to factory settings but that didn't work. Any ideas? Otherwise this thing is going back to the store.

It's ok. It seems to have cured itself. And downloading Vista Anti Lag has cured the sound drop outs too.

  • Iphone 3G on windows 7 (64bits) shows as unknown device

but somewhat shows also in another devices (unknown device) and Itunes doesn't recognize or even shows anything.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes and all apple software (Bonjour, QuickTime etc) about 15 times every way I could imagine.
I extracted files (usbaapl64). I tried to update drivers with no success.
I uninstalled Anti viruses, scanned HD, updated some video/sound drivers
It works on my husband’s computer (another HP)under windows Vista 32bits but it’s not working on mine for the life of me.
I can’t figure it out what its causing the conflict and would appreciate any suggestion
I do not really want to try to jump using the restore since last time I did it I had a hard time to download/update my contacts and settings and ended up having to download MobileMe
    Pls help

    todays update
It got worse before got better
I uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes a couple more times. I even tried to install a 32bit version since task manager shows Itunes 32*exe.
I finally gave in and restored Iphone to factory settings and then my iphone could only call 911 (emergency calls)
I try to connect again to restore it but it didn't work. I tried the DFU and got a error msg "error-message-0xe8000001"

  • Annoying "unknown device&qu

I own an Audigy 2 zs notebook. It works like a charm (at the moment I have the driver and software from this thread installed http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=24260)
Everytime I boot up though, I get a message that an "unknown device" needs to be installed. When I press don't ask again, it will ask again anyway, when I press install, it looks on windows update for drivers and identifies the device as "Creative SoundFont Synthesizer" it then tells me that there was an error installing the drivers and history repeats itself over and over again.
I thought that disabling the device might do the trick, but the result of that is just that the windows audio service doesn't boot with windows any more and that I don't get any sound even with my built in audio card. The only way of getting things back to normal again after that is a rollback from a system restore point.
Any ideas how to fix this At the moment I just click cancel everytime the message pops up, but it's probably slowing down my boot time, too.

Before USB took off, PC joysticks used a serial interface and required hardware to convert the analogue movement of the stick to a digital value to be used by the PC. Some bright spark realised that the sound card already has DAC/ADC converters built in so an additional connection was soon added to many cards allowing them to double up as joystick/gamepad connectors.
As MIDI is also serial data, it wasn't long before the same port was being used for MIDI connection and was a very cheap and useful extra. One of the areas where PC's lagged behind Apple and even Atari PCs was in music production so this was quite a big deal at a time when there were no PC based virtual instruments and home keyboards and synths were the biggest selling gadgets in town.
In the last few years USB has been adopted as a means of transfering MIDI data although this is far from uni'versal and actually has a number of weaknesses when compared against the traditional MIDI connection. Despite this, M$ decided to remove OS level support for the gameport with no thought for the millions of MIDI users around the world - they were only thinking of game players - like much of the PC market.
In actual fact, the MIDI ports still work under Vista but can't be configured without dabbling in the registry. Programs such as Cubase can still use them so it's not a total loss. It is possible to purchase a MIDI>>USB adaptor but this just introduces additional problems and costs. There hasn't been any response from M$ as to why they can't re-instate support so the issue will never go away.
If you don't use MIDI or non-USB game controllers you can either ignore the Device Manager entry or right click it and select "Disabled" to make it look tidier.
    Here endeth the lesson :-)
    Pete
