No, these are pics that are in my Pictures folder (like the documents or downloads folders) on my MacBook.  Photos that I have download out of emails, facebook and some from my iPhone.  Some of the pictures have been on my MacBook for 2-3 yrs.  I will look for a pic that I know I have in my Pictures folder and it is no where to be found.  I have several different subfolders in my Picture folder and when I click on a certain subfolder to look for a pic that was in there the folder might only have 5-10 photos left in it or will be empty.  I had a subfolder for 2013 pics and there might only be 30 pics from the hundred++ I know were there.  I just don't get it.  Thank you.

  • Disappearing programs

I am through trying to get apple help to function in any way that actually pertains to my problem. Its an excersize in despair.
My problem is that shows inexplicably disappear from Apple TV. I have formatted it so that it does not sync automatically. I am careful to check what is syncing when I sync. Yet shows just disappear and reappear for no reason I can grasp. The search of the apple help site always seems to return results that have nothing to do with the problem.
Also, Itunes is constantly telling me I have a fire wall problem. I do not use a firewall. This also has no reference in apple help.
The direct help phone system is hilariously opaque. It seems to be impossible to find out what the charges are.
One's only recourse with Apple Help is other people who also use Apple. Not Apple Help itself.
    Extremely frustrated
    John Zuill

I keep firewalls off because there is always a problem with them. But of course, then again I turn off the fire wall and still have firewall problems. The system of error tagging is almost useless in apple and over the years, its gotten worst. And no I am viewing all programs, watched or unwatched.
I also have a problem with Itunes. The library folder keeps shifting back to the computer I am using rather than staying in the hard drive where the actual data is located. This can happen at any time with no warning what so ever. This makes it very difficult to ever be sure if the computer can find what its looking for and content gets spread to various locations. The consensus on various sites is just grin and bear it. It certainly makes the idea of a household network a prospect fraught with difficulty.
Apple TV is not actually all that useful because of the many systemic issues that seem to arise, that have no solution that is quickly accessable. For example, how can content that was downloaded from Itunes, after having been viewed previously suddenly be an unrecognizable format? I am sure there is some sort of explanation, and when I am through sorting out this problem, I'll get on to that one. But this is not a simple system and it is not easily used. At first is seems to work quite well, but once I was relying on it, these funky, time consuming errors began to crop up all the time. My brother who is in IT doesn't bother. He bought an old Mini Mac and plays whatever he wants. Its less superficially convenient, but I beginning to think it is finally the more sensible solution. Even apple remote, which makes apple tv easy to use when it works, seems to have a welter of little issues. Yes, if it works, its great. But if it is having an issue of some kind, you are looking at half an of bother, getting it to work.

  • Clock disappears, programs crash

Hello, I've recently been having issues with my iMac. The menu bar clock disappears and open programs then crash. It seems to occur when I try to use Software Update either via the application or iTunes. The download will start but display as needing hours to download (my cable internet connection is otherwise fine though).
I've run disk utility and repair and still have these issues. Restarting the machine clears up the issues for a while but then they inevitably reoccur.
    Any information is appreciated. thanks.

You mentioned restarting clear up the issues for awhile, I'd recommend trying a SMC reset and see if that helps.
    _SMC RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord _and all peripherals_.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    _PRAM RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

  • OK, I give up. I can't take this poorly written software anymore

After 3 nights, I have accomplished absolutely NOTHING with the iMovie/iDVD combination, which is a real shame, because one of the main reasons that I switched to MAC was for the graphic capabilities. All I get are spinning pinwheels, completely disappearing programs, and basically crap and wasted time. This last time, iDVD spit the disk out of the drive, even though the iDVD insisted that it was still burning the DVD, and was actually counting down the minutes while it was burning to "nothing". I was out of time to create a vacation disk that I promised to a large group, so I reverted back to my old copy of Adobe Premiere and ran the whole thing under my Windows partition on the Mac Pro. It worked the first time. Apple may make some great hardware, but the whole iLife suite of software is just crap. I should have read the reviews before I began even trying. As a long time Windows user, I was under the impression, based on all the hype, that switching to MAC OS was the cure for all ills. But I can verify that Snow Leopard has just as many headaches as Windows XP. I'm quite disappointed.

Thanks King_Penguin, I'm probably wrong, but I thought I had managed to shift videos previously downloaded using the converter App, from within the iPad.
It's quite a long time since I did it last, so It's probably wishfull thinking!
I can't understand why I seem to be the only person who finds it odd that video is forced into "Picture Gallery", when there is a perfectly tailored resting place for it in "Videos"!

  • When using 2 monitors, Finder always displays on primary monitor even after dragging to 2nd monitor.

How can I set Finder to display to 2nd monitor.  I drag it to the second monitor, but it still display on primary monitor when next opened.

Thank you for your reply. No other program behaves this way, even PhotoShop CS4. It is related to how the program handles OS events.
It is probably a problem with the Windows WM_GETMINMAXINFO and WM_SIZE handlers. My guess is that program stores the maximized size (and it always fills the screen at start-up) and it query to see if it is dragged to a larger screen.
Of course, this theory doesn't address the disappearing program behavior when maximized on the secondary monitor. Since I don't have another OS, I cannot check if it is Vista related or Windows related. Because of the difference in architecture, I'd be surprised if it happened on a Mac, too.

  • WinHelp 2000 TOC only works on primary monitor.

First time posting here, hopefully the knowledge here can
    help me out.
Using RoboHelp for Word 6 (Build 099) (O/S is XP Pro), I have
created a WinHelp 2000 out put that is approximately 2.5 meg.
The problem is the TOC only works on the primary monitor, as
soon as you move the help dialog to another screen the TOC fails to
function... move it back to the primary monitor and it works again.
    Any ideas?
This is a big issue for me as it supports a CADD system and
all 500 users have dual monitors, and to make it even worse I need
to roll this out in a couple of days, and I only now discovered
    this quirk.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Kelly

  • Exe compiled in LV 2010 crash - Since installing LV 2012 SP1 and 2013

Exe compiled in LV 2010 crash - Since installing LV 2012 SP1 and 2013
Double-click on exe icons (LV apps written in 2010), the application icon appears on taskbar then disappears (program crashes).
I have tried re-installing the exe's but doesn't fix.  Is there an issue with the new LV RTE's?
    Any suggestions for fix???

    battler,
Have you tried making your exe into a debuggable exe? You can do this through your project build specification Advanced>>Enable Debugging. Make sure you check the box for Wait for Debugger. This means when you launch your exe you can connect to it from LabVIEW and see your block diagrams, use highlight execution, probles etc. It is quite possible that you are running into an error case while your program is loading and it is exiting.

  • After sorting photos into albums, the albums disappeared on me. I dragged and dropped the photos and went back to check that they were in place before exiting the program. When I went back, the folder was there but no albums. Help!

Working on an IMac - with IPhoto v.9.6
This is my first experience with IPhoto... trying to move files from a PC over to a Mac.
I don't have a ton of photos but I created about 6 albums - standard albums - and dragged and dropped individual photos into each of the albums. I named each of the albums as well so I would know what was in each. After i was finished, I created a folder called 2014 and moved each of the albums into that folder. Before moving ANY of the albums, I opened each of them up to make sure that all the photos I wanted in each were indeed there - and since there were some errors on my part, I deleted any duplicates first. SO, I KNOW the photos were actually in each of the albums BEFORE i moved them into the 2014 folder.
My intention was to then delete the photo files in my document file but once I got there I thought I would go back and double check the IPhoto file just to make sure... and the pictures were NOT in the albums where I had placed them... is there a need to save this before you move on and if so, to where and how? I was under the impression that once files were moved to albums, they remain there.
The photos are still in the photo library but unsorted now again... I cannot even open the 2014 folder at this point.
    Thanks for any help!!

Was back on IPhoto this morning. The folder did not open at all so I deleted it. Beside Albums, nothing showed at all. It was like I had done no work at all except to import my photo folder. Nothing was in my trash bin either.
I started again and created one album at a time. I dragged and dropped photos into the album and exited out of IPhoto, opened up other programs and then returned to IPhoto to see if the album was still there and it was this time. I created a second album and did the same thing. This time, for some reason, the albums seem to be staying in place. I am not doing anything differently than last time. After creating three albums, I created a folder called 2014 and dragged and dropped the three albums into the folder and exited IPhoto. They were still there when I returned - YEAH! It seems to be working - for now! I am keeping my fingers crossed that my photos are not going to disappear but I am not going to delete my photo folder from my files just in case!
Thanks for the suggestions but this may just have been a funny glitch... not sure what happened. I didn't change anything or do anything differently this time except that I am doing it one album at a time and exiting the program between creating each of them and coming back to check... very strange.

  • I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear and the setup menu says there is an error. Any idea of what is happening?

I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear from the menu and the setup menu says there is an error. I tried using the wireless connection, and also the cable, but none worked. Any idea of what could be happening?

What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time.

  • Firefox 3.6.12 won't open under WinXP. Have uninstalled/reinstalled several times. When I start the program (including safe mode) I see a Firefox process appear for about 3 seconds, then disappear. Run full scan with Norton with no malware discovered.

I've used Firefox for years with no problems. I've not installed any new extensions or programs between the time it worked great and when the problem began.
I click to start FF (shortcut, directly on program file, etc.) and I get an hourglass for a couple of seconds like it's starting, then nada. As mentioned, I see FF show up as a process in Task Manager for about 3 seconds, then disappear.
Solutions I've tried include: Uninstall/reinstall on the same drive and a separate drive, registry cleanup/optimization w/Norton Utilities, full scan for malware/viruses with Norton, stopping some autostartup programs that were installed and in use while FF was running fine.

  • Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.

Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.
And I thought the whole point of an App Tab was to always have those tabs there no matter what window is open all the time period.
It's a minor complaint but I would really appreciate the option to permanently have them there.

I thought that app tabs would be more persistent, like pinning programs to the taskbar in Windows, but this is not the case.
Instead, once you close a Firefox window, all its tabs and app tabs are lost.
Essentially, this means that the close button in the upper-left corner of a Firefox window is now a "kill all open tabs and loose all App Tabs without warning++ " button. That is not cool.
I realize that "Firefox > Quit Firefox" behaves as intended, but many people use the more obvious red close button instead of the menu to close windows on a Mac. And it is easy to forget that the red button is now also an app-tab-death button. I've lost my app tabs many times to this issue. It is an unforgiving user interface decision which hampers the usability of app tabs. Why should I go through the extra clicks of setting up app tabs if I can loose them so easily?
Ideally, App Tabs could be saved separately from the currently open windows (perhaps create an option to save then to a special Tab Group that opens on startup?). App tabs would be exceedingly useful to me if they weren't so easy to loose.
On that note, saving Tab Groups would also be a useful functionality.
++ You will get a "closing multiple tabs" warning if you have only one window open, and that one window has multiple non-app tabs open, and you have enabled the warning in Preferences. But this too unreliable to help prevent the loss of app tabs.

Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.

  • The "recently used programs" section on the start menu has disappeared - how do I get it back?

On the start menu, the top few programs are those that I use frequently. There used to be a line, and underneath the line appeared the programs that I have most recently used (other than the frequently-used programs above the line). This bottom section has disappeared - how can I get it back? Running XP with Firefox 33.1.

This is a Windows question, not a Firefox question. Try using a search like www.bing.com/search?q=restore+recently+used+programs+windows+xp for help.

  • Mac 10.5.8 is running slow and programs are disappearing

    Hi guys,
I actually have more than one problem with my Mac:
For one it is running slow especially when using Firefox and Office at the same time often resulting in me having to force quit the programs because they are not responding.
Lately applications are disappearing. First Stickies which is really! bad, because, stupid as I am, I put important info on them and did not make a backup. I tried to restore them via Time Machine but find nothing under ~Library/.StickiesDatabase, ...Application Support... or ...Preferences/com.apple.Stickies.plist
Then Preview disappeared which, luckily i could restore via Time Machine.
And now iCal looks different in dock (the white square surrounding the actual date disappeared) so I am guessing this  soon will be gone as well.
Another info that probably is important: my battery is swollen so generally I use the Mac without the battery
Do you think this is a virus? Or maybe 10.5.8. is just too old a version? Do you think an upgrade to at least 10.6. would help or rather worsen things? And is it worth it to invest in an upgrade, a new battery, a complete check-up or should I just wait until the poor thing dies and get a new one (which would be really painful)?
As you can see I am a clueless user, and I am sorry for any stupid questions in advance and thankful for any support!

thank you for the reply. i checked the smart status which said disk is veryfied. i ran the repair anyways. this is the protoco (i dont really know what to make of it)l:
