Disappeared: pages that involve .pdf are suddenly refusing to be viewable?

Let me try to describe this. In the normal course of traveling through webspace, I see that a largish number of site pages are actually .pdfs (not just those one downloads intentionally as separate files, but the regular pages). What's happening to me is that as the page loads, it simply doesn't show the .pdf page. Instead, I get a gray page without any image. It seems like the thing is loaded fine, but I just can't see it.
I've gone fishing to see if I can fix it: updated safari, gone looking for adobe plug-ins or anything seeming awry. I downloaded the most recent adobe update and installed it. nuh-uh. The only thing of relevance that I can think of is that a couple of weeks ago I updated the OS to Snow Leopard. This all just started the other day.
I am now beyond my (admittedly low) pay grade as far as fixing things Mac goes. Help! My workaround with my iPhone is getting kinda old.

Hi and welcome Nancidrew ...
Go to your Safari menu bar click Safari / Empty Cache.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari.
If that doesn't help, from the Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons. Click Reset.
If that didn't make a difference, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari if it's open.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If you can view PDF files in Safari, move the .plist file to the Trash.
Another workaround besides your iPhone is to login to another user account on your Mac. Launch Safari.
If you don't have another account established, follow the instructions here. This only takes a few minutes.

  • URL for pages that contain content areas

    Hello
I've created a Content Area that has many folders in it. I've created a new portal page with the content area and I want to use URL links to point to that page and a specific folder maintaining my portlets in their place. How can I construct the URL?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I think I understand your question, however not sure.
What you can do is url linking like:
    portalpages:
    http://localhost/pls/portal30/url/page/<pagename>
    (sub-folder) in contentarea's:
    http://localhost/pls/portal30/url/folder/<contentarea-name>/<subfolder>/<subfolder>etc

  • Pdfs are suddenly damaged

I manage several sites with iWeb. This past weekend I went into all and updated the copyright information in the footer of each page. Upon doing so, I am now realizing that even though I did not make other changes, many (not all) of the current pdfs that are within the sites will no longer download.
On many of them, when I click on them, I get "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."
Any ideas for me? As I said, it seems to be random. Please shed some light if you can. Thanks!

  • All my PDFs are suddenly corrputed, but nothing else is.

I have client files stored as PDFs on an on-site server. Suddenly, today, they're not accessable by myself or anyone else on the network. This is only affecting PDFs, as the document files, Word files, everything else is fine. It's just the PDFs. I have tried making copies, opening them on a different computer that's not on the network, everything. I've even tried several repair programs that say they don't recognize the files as PDFs. The file sizes all seem to be accurate - meaning they're not zero bytes. I have tried un-installing and then re-installing Reader, and different versions. Nothing works.
I have no idea where to go from here, other than asking clients to re-send two years worth of documentation.
Has anyone else had this problem? Please tell me that someone has a solution to this?

My whole office uses Windows 7, I've upgraded all the way to Reader 11 during this, and they're corrupted in that when I try to open them, Reader has a popup box that says "Adobe Reader could not open 'file.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)".
All of our PDFs were working on Monday, then yesterday they were all corrupted. When I try to use a program to recover/restore/repair them, they all say the files aren't PDF files.

  • I use my account in iTunes, and also in my iPad and iPhone. I've already made some purchases using a Visa Credit Card that was attached to my account. Today, for my surprise, not only this particular one, but some other cards that i have are being refused

I get message sayng that the card is not accepted at the particular store

The same thing happened to me this week end.
I tried what i was told to try : enter (again) credit card data, for if it is wrong (but, it WAS right, as I could buy apps and music with this card before)
I cheked my bank acount, my credit card works in stores and with amazon...
So their answer is "use gift cards", which is unacceptable.
Was your problem solved after you posted this message (quite old)?

    Hello,
Just to set your expectations...it's fine to "rant" about things here, but I do hope you are not expecting a formal reply from anyone at BlackBerry. For this site is not a channel for any formal communications with, escalations to, nor support from BlackBerry for any purpose whatsoever. Rather, it is a user-to-user community of volunteers who try to help each other out to the best of their abilities. Note this banner, please, posted at the top of nearly every page of the site:
Consequently, words posted such as "WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU?" are actually directed at the other kind volunteers of this site, who may not respond in the most kindly of fashions. Hopefully, we all can understand that your rant is directed at BlackBerry (though, by placing it here, it is misplaced), but I just wanted to gently caution you about such posts, as well as ensure that your expectation concerning replies is properly set. Also, for new members who join the site, it's always good to have responses to such posts, covering the intended use of the site so that those new members can better understand such things.
On the other hand, if you do desire assistance from other users for your issues, you might consider wording your requests in a manner that would motivate a kind volunteer to provide such.
    Good luck!

  • Is there a way to flip the pages in a .pdf so that all of the text is readable (in other words all documents are right side up)?  I have Adobe Acrobat X and am using Windows 8.1.

Is there a way to flip the pages in a .pdf so that all of the text is readable (in other words all documents are right side up)?  I have Adobe Acrobat X and am using Windows 8.1.

I have a pdf with over 2,000 pages, many of which are sideways.  I do not want to manually flip each one (few are next to each other).  Is there a way to automate the function so that all sideways or upside down text pages are righted?

  • Acrobat X Pro makes text disappear from a page when I insert that page into another PDF

I printed a single page Microsoft Project schedule to PDF using Acrobat X Pro.  All good.  I then inserted that one page into another PDF document using Tools/Insert Pages/Insert from File.  Much of the text in the inserted page goes missing after inserting that page into the other PDF document.  How do I prevent this disappearing text problem?

Does the inserted page have a lot of markup? I do not think the markup will insert.

  • Iweb pages are suddenly blank.

When I open iweb all but the first page are suddenly blank. I've quit, dumped the .plist, re-started, repaired the preferences, dumped the cache - and still I can only see the first page. Online I can see the whole site, but to edit on my commuter, not so much. At first, when I look at the other pages, I can see the outline of the template, but then that disappears, too. The weirdest part is this happened on two computers! At first I could't even open the first page, but I'd backed up onto idisk, so I downloaded the file, but could only get the first page, as I said.

You've done the standard "fixes" so it might be time to reinstall iWeb. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iWeb" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iWeb from the disks it came on originally and apply the necessary updaters.

  • Why does pages suddenly refuse to save a document back to our server after editing?

why does pages suddenly refuse to save a document back to our server after editing?
and can i specify a default save-as location?

The default save location is the one used to open the document.
The default save_to location is the last used one.
Both are stored in memory and written in the application's preferences file when we close it.
It's quite easy to change the defaults in the preferences file but we must do that before opening the app and if we use an other location once the app is open, we will lost the defined default location.
From my point of view, the best scheme is to use an Applescript to save.

If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

This solved my question by mcbuffy  on Apr 20, 2012 11:29 AM
There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash.

  • I am unable to print PDF's using either Adobe Reader or Safari. In Adobe Reader, I get an error message from my Cannon printer that says, "/usr.libexec/cups/filter/pstocupsraster failed". In Safari, I can only print the first page of a PDF.

To try to resolve this problem, I have done the following actions.
    1 - I have run Disk Warrior.
    2 - I have repaired permissions.
3 - I have deleted all plist that are either Cannon or Adobe.
4 - I have downloaded and installed the lastest versions of Adobe Reader and the Cannon printer drivers.
I am still unable to print PDF's.
In Safari, I can print only the first page. In a multipage PDF, Safari only seems to recognize the first page.
In Adobe Reader, I get an error message from my printer: "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstocupsraster failed".
Any help would be greatly appreicated!

    Quit Safari.
Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
☞ If running OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and copy the line below into the text box that opens:
    ~/Library
Delete the following items from the Library folder:
    Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
    Relaunch Safari and test.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select "/var/log/cups/error_log" from the file list. Post the messages from the time of the last printing attempt.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

  • Acrobat only converts the page that is displayed.  How do I export/convert an entire PDF to word or exel?

I have some huge reports that need to be converted.  This is not a one time thing.
When I try to export PDF to word, excel, or any format offered, it:
    only saves the headers/footers.
If I select all; it only saves the page(s) displayed on screen
How can I convert an entire PDF to word or excel?
Auto-scrolling is on and that made sadly no difference.
There are too many pages to put it on 10% and view them all on one screen
    Please help

Hi, sorry I should have put that in my original post.
    Version: Acrobat XI
I tried multiple things which included:
Tools --> Content Editing --> Export File To... [ This saves a blank file ]
Select All --> Tools --> Content Editing --> Export File To... [ Saves only the page that is displayed on the monitor, the rest is all blank except header and footer ]
Select All --> File --> Save As --> Excel or Word [ Saves only the page displayed on monitor ]
File --> Save As --> Excel or Word [ Saves only the page displayed on monitor ]
Select All --> File --> Save As Other --> Excel or Word [ Saves only the page displayed on monitor ]
File --> Save As Other --> Excel or Word [ Saves only the page displayed on monitor ]
Tools --> Edit Text & Images --> Cannot Select All --> Export File To... [ Saves only what is displayed on the monitor ]
I'll edit and add to my original post if it lets me.

I am not sure what's happening with IE9 (no live site) but I had real problems viewing your code in Live View - until I removed the HTML comment marked below. Basically your site was viewable in Design View but as soon a I hit Live view, it disappeared - much like IE9. See if removing the comment solves your issue.
