Disappearing canvas & timeline

working with fc studio 3 on project.
when i tried to add clip to sequence, browser turned red, with notice; general error.
soon, browser and timeline disappeared, and are grayed out on tool bar, so can do nothing.
wondering what happened, and how to get back browser-timeline.
have turned off project several times. nothing. thank you.

have been trying to work with some flip video hd stuff -..1280x720, h.264,60fps.
i have final cut studio 3, on new mac laptop.
i've been putting all this flip video on its own sequence, and some clips do not give me problem,
others first say:general error, then out of memory. (not possible)

On fcp6 - all of a sudden my titles and images disappear when timeline stops. Can't edit or see titles.

titles and stills work fine in playback, but disappear when timeline stops. Can't edit titles. Can't find how to bring things back. restarted FCP and Mac.

Second image shows outline of title over background image. All images are .jpg finished in Photoshop as I normally do. They worked fine during the first half hour of editing.

Layer disappeared from timeline

I'm creating some banners with Edge Animate for the first time.
I started with the biggest one, now I need to create some more downscaled versions.
Clearly the easiest and fastes way is to duplicate the edge project and modify the layers size position etc...
Duplicating the project folder and changing the file name didn't work for me (gave error "edge can't read the html file"), so I managed to do it with "save as" and changing the "project1.an" name to a new one in a clean folder. When opened, Edge creates all the assets referencing the new name.
Everything ok until here, but then I noticed that the top layer "link" (it was a hidden clickable div with the banner link) has disappeared from timeline, but it's still present in the "elements" tab.
The link was still working, then after a couple of cmd+return it disappeared also from the stage.
I created a new rectangular div with the tool, but the new one is also not present in the timeline but only in the "elements" tab.
Now I'm worried that this could cause problems on publishing or future edits. Am I doing something wrong?

Never mind, after this post I already found the answer.
I had checked without noticing the button at the bottom of timeline "Only Show Animated Elements".
Unchecking all the layers were there.
Hope this can help if anyone has accidentally the same problem!

When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

Thanks David. I had to convert the mts file to Quick Time (using AunSoft Conversion software) before I could import it into Final Cut Express. And I made sure I kept the size of movie (720 X 480 with letterbox) to compliment what I set my Panaconic AVCCAM video recorder at (720/60). Even after I fully render it, it still looks fuzzy in the Canvas window at the right that plays what I have editing down in the Timeline. A friend that edits some using Final Cut Pro helped me to narrow things down to this problem. This is also wierd. If my Viewer window at the left is set to 200% to get the person's head the same size in the Canvas window at the right we needed to put it to 400%. Does this make any sense. We think we need to control the Time line resolution somehow but cannot find any options from my manual, or the help, or in the various drop down menus. Do you have any clue? What is going on?

Problem getting canvas & timeline to display

The timeline & canvas will not display when I open up FCE. FCE has worked great until now...
FYI - I tried the following to correct this problem:
1. Resetting the display mode (windows, arrange, standard & small windows). Note - The canvas & timeline listings in the drop down windows menu were unchecked & displayed in light gray.
2. Reloaded FCE & checked for software updates.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

FYI - To ensure that I am able to view the sequence "automatically" every time I open up any of my clips, I will save each project when the sequence is opened.
Not sure what I did differently to cause this to happen recently, but now the problem is solved.

FCE canvas & timeline disappear

So I'm enjoying the new FCE 3.5, and editing all morning with no problem...when suddenly the canvas and the timeline windows disappear. I go to the window tab and lo and behold the canvas and timeline commands are greyed out. How do I activate these windows again? I'm at a loss...nothing in the literature spells this out. Thanksfor the help.

Thanks for your help...It took me awhile to locate the sequence (I had renamed it)...but a simple click rrestored everything.

Disappearing Canvas and Timeline

I have a project that when opened, only shows the browser and viewer, no canvas or timeline. If I open FCE without any projects open, all the windows are there. If I open another project, all the windows are there. If I open this project with all the windows open through another project, it still isn't a tab on the timeline or canvas. I checked Windows dropdown and the timeline and canvas are greyed out for this project, but not if I have other projects up. I tried checking Windows (drop down), then Standard and they still don't come up? I have FCE 4, upgraded from FCE HD.

Look in the Browser for a Sequence and double click it.

Media Not Recognised In Canvas/Timeline?

So I went out to shoot an interview and I have captured the footage from my DV tapes and edited it all in to FCP 6.
I returned to it toda, and the timeline is not recognising the footage any longer! Although the Viewer plays the clips in their entirety, when you play through the timeline, sound comes through, but no picture. Even more confusing, the wireframes of the footage/images are displayed, but the actual image is just black. Not only that, when you drag a perfectly good piece of footage into the canvas, the picture again does not show up!
Anybody got any ideas what could be going wrong? This is the third project I have "lost" through these bizarre goings-on.

Check that your canvas is set to show "image" and not just wireframe.

Disappearing canvas

I have three canvases on my form :-
Canvas A is a content canvas
Canvas B is a tab canvas
Canvas C is a stacked canvas
When i move focus from canvas C to canvas B, canvas C disappears. What could be causing this disappearance? Please assist.

Hello Yeucai,
Its unfortunate that we can't place a stacked canvas over a tab canvas. If you do so during runtime the corresponding canvas where the control is over will show up instead of both. If you really want to use the stacked canvas over a tab canvas then keep all the navigable items on stacked canvas and may be non navigable items over tab canvas and whenever tab changed then show the corresponding stacked canvas and hide when tab changed.

Audio disappears in timeline

After laying in clips to timeline, sometimes audio tracks turn a copper color (see pic) and no longer play audio. Sometimes they appear normal, but no audio after export. (All audio tracks are turned on). It seems to happen more frequently after copying and pasting a sequence from one project into another. Any help would be much appreciated.

The "disappearing Audio" does seem to happen with a Copy/Paste operation, but it does seem to random - sometimes working, but not always.
Have you tried Selecting a problem Clip, placing the CTI/Playhead over that Clip, and doing a Match Frame operation? That used to fix things, when the Audio became lost.

Canvas/Timeline Gone

My Canvas and Timeline are gone. They're grayed out in Window. I can't remember how to bring them back. Help, please.

Clips disappearing on timeline when placed upon each other/ retrieving them

I accidently dropped a clip on top of another one on the timeline and it disappeared. I need it back. How do I get it back?

Furthermore, it won't let me drop clips more than three rows down. What's that **** about? Where am I supposed to place them???

Waveform disappears in Timeline.

Why does waveform disappear in the timeline? Can't use automation because i have no timeline reference for peaks and transients. Tried reloading track and re-adding audio from the bin. Using logic exp 9. Thanks for your help.

This sounds buggy, try rebuilding your preferences.
