Disappearing files and/or folders ?

I'm experiencing files and/or folders disappearing from within other folders under Lion 10.7.2
This is an intermittent problem. It usually happens mostly from dragging and dropping file('s) and/or folder('s) into antother folder within Finder windows from doing thinds like general tidying-up and file/folder maintenance.
The files/folders appear to still be there and I have often confirmed this by running other programs that allow you to view files locations by right clicking and choosing 'reveal in finder'. Usually shuting down and booting back up often resolves the problem and the files/folders become visible again, but this is something I'd prefer not to do.
The problem does appear to become more frequent in time and I don't recall this problem under Snow Leopard. It can affect one or more folders.
I've naturally verified the disk and have run 'repair disk permission' more times than I can remember. Just hope it's not a B-Tree structure problem or anything becoming more serious.

I am getting this too. So far it has always gone away when I restart.
I'm starting to think that Lion needs to be restarted quite often, at least daily.
Grrr.

    Hi all
plz can any one send me the source in jsp or js to display in tree structure for files and sub folders in a folder.

There are dozens of Javascript tree widgets available on the Internet. Some are free. Some are good. Google will find them for you.
(The only relevance of JSP to your question is that yes, you can generate HTML that uses one of those Javascript tree widgets.)

  • 2 questions - 1st relates to .ion files and 2 folders and sub-folders

I'll try and keep this brief in the hope someone can take the time and help me! My background is that I'm a Location Manager for Film and TV and have about 250,000 images (all with discriptions attached!)
1st I have used Acdsee on windows for the past 8 years (V4, as its stable)), I've now moved over to Mac and want to import my images that are all tagged with discript.ion files. Can I do this and how (i must retain the info in these files. )
2nd i may have 50 folders each with 20 - 50 sub folders (so on and so on) if I import them all into iPhoto (and view them on the same page) I'll go nuts, how can I retain my main folders and have sub folders inside them?
    Thanks in advance.

    Stan007:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't think iPhoto would be what you'd want to use. You should look into a DAM (digital asset management) application. I use both iView MediaPro andMedia Expression which are much more versatile and powerful than iPhoto.
I suggest you visit the DAM Forum and see what they say about the various applications that are available. I don't know if EM can read the .ion files but I'm sure someone in the DAM forum can put you on the right path. A wealth of information there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Files and/or folders becoming locked on Mac Server 10.3.9

Files and folders cannot be reopened on the respective server share when the creator or inclusive user tries to reopen a folder or file, they see the file / folder as being locked.
The server is set to inherit permissions.
All of our students go to a share "student" where they can plop their files.
Teachers, who have a different user name and group, also should have access to the student share's files and folders after they log in.
We have many files that seem almost to lock themselves, a user saves a file, then at another computer, or even the same one, at a later time tries to reopen the folder or file and its locked.
Propagating the permissions from the Server Admin tool on the server seems to fix the issue, but what could be causing this to happen in the first place?
We have Windows 2000 systems, XP systems, Mac OS 10.3.9, !0.4.7, and 10.4.8 all touching these respective shares.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
PowerMac G4 (2.6) AGP Graphics   Other OS   Running Mac OS 10.3.9 server

Well I am getting the same problem crop up again on the latest version but if I remember right I worked round this back on 10.3.9
Try enabling ACL's on the partition/volume your shares reside but don't use ACL permissions for some weird reason this worked for me in fact if I then disabled ACL on the volume I could reinstate the problem turn on again and it worked so was pretty easy to see.
    Hope it works for you

  • WD Smartware Pro not backing up certain files and/or folders - Solution

Hello all, I have recently bought a WD My Cloud, and installed the WD Smartware Pro software. I noticed that some files/folders were not being backed up. After troubleshooting the issue, I have found the following: - Right click on certain files doesn't gave me the option to send it to WD Smartware.- The same files were not showed in the explorer view of the backup tab, in Smartware (where you select what to backup). Now, the interesting part of this, is how I fixed the issue: - Went to C:\Program Files\Western Digital\WD SmartWare\Plugins and edited baseblacklist.xml file, removing the     <attribute value="temporary" /> text. This is because I have found that the files affected had the "T" attribute (which means Temporary).- Went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Western Digital\WD SmartWare and edited documents.xml, adding     <extension value="*.xps" />
<extension value="*.oxps" /> In my case I have added those two entries because I have found that no xps/oxps files were not being backed up. If you right-click on a file and the context menu does not offer you the option to send to Smartware, then you have to add the extension in the file related to the files affected (i.e. documents.xml, movies.xml, etc.). In some cases, the xml files related to the content to backup are in one unique location. I don't know why in my case it's in two locations (program files and program files (x86)). I think that may be related to the fact my laptop is x64. Once you did all the modifications, you have to restart your computer, or if you prefer, the two services related to the product, which are: - WD Drive Manager.- WD Backup. If you restart the Drive Manager service, then you will restart both services as are dependant. I have Windows 10 Enteprise x64, with latest version of Smartware, firmware, etc. Hope it helps.

Hi there, welcome to the community. Thank you very much for sharing how you solve this, hope it helps some user on the board.

Since the web is one heck of a big place, it pays to narrow down exactly what you are referring to by URL.
    >
Is there something wroing with the jar file? do I need to create a for loop? do I need to create a Java program and include this JAR file as a library?>Well since it is a 3rd party tool (that I had never heard of before today) it might be best to take it up with the 3rd party. These forums are not designed or intended to provide support for 3rd party APIs.
OTOH, surf on over to the [manual (AKA TFM) for this tool|http://code.google.com/p/epubcheck/wiki/Running] and the documentation strongly suggests it was only intended for one file at a time.
If that is that case, you might call the Jar using Runtime.exec() in a loop of your own Java code.
Your other idea of loading the class directly in your Java code, and proceeding from there is a better one strategically. But unfortunately that tool's homepage mentions the documentation is 'comging soon', and that presumably includes the JavaDocs.

  • How can I move my address file and mail folders from one drive image to the active drive?

I have a drive with recovered data from a crashed drive. How do I import the Thunderbird address file to the new, current drive ( also the mail folders ) ?

Look at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_how-to-find-your-profile to locate your profile on the recovered disk.
If you are just starting TB with a new profile, the simplest thing to do would be to copy the recovered profile to the directory where your current profile is located. Then switch; see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles to switch to the other profile
If you have stuff in your current profile you need to save or merge, let me know and I will give you further instructions.

  • Unhide Files and/or folders in Bridge CS4

The title says it all. Somehow, some of my folders became hidden. How did I accidentally hide the folders? How do I unhide folders?
    Thanks in advance.

You don't give much details about version etc. but it might be possible that
you have unchecked the show folders option in the view menu, go to view /
show folder and see if a checkmark is put in front of it.
But since you are talking about some folders are showing and some not you
should first try to point bridge to the main folder that contains the
subfolders and then go to the menu tools / cache / purge cache for folder
and see if this helps solving your problem.
Last option I can think of for now is that you have accidently moved some
folders while selecting multiple files for moving to different folders. You
can check this using find or  check it in the OS finder itself if they are
really still there where they should be.

  • Can I customize "all my files" and exclude folders?

A lot of folders that I don't want to include. Like my music which I always browse through iTunes.

    Dawsonj,
I was experiencing the same problem with Microsoft Office results flooding my "All My Files" view – but was able to fix it using redisant's suggestion above, by customizing my Spotlight preferences.
    Step-by-step:
Open "System Preferences..." in the Apple menu.
Click the "Spotlight" Icon to open Spotlight Preferences.
Change from the "Search Results" tab to the "Privacy" tab. This pane lets you specify folders that should be excluded from Spotlight search (and also from "All My Files").
Click the "+" button in the lower left to add a new list item.
Navigate to your "Microsoft User Data" folder (by default, this is <user>/Documents/Microsoft User Data) and select to add it to the list of excluded directories. (You can also navigate to the folder in the finder, and then drag the folder directly into the list view.)
    That's it!
"All My Files" should be sane again. :-)
    Best,
    Jason

  • How do I use a usb portable drive to let me add or move files and create folders

I have a 256 gb porable smart drive  USB and need to move some files to another USB 1 TB drive and create a folder on the 1 TB drive for the data off of the smaller one.  When I try to create a folder and using finder it has the new folder grayed out.  using Info it tells me that I only have permission to read the drives but they both worked fine on the windows Laptop.  I guess I need to learn more about Finder.

I guess you're trying to create the folder on the 1TB drive.
Question: Are you OK initializing that drive on your Mac?
If so, you can use Disk Utility (in Applications > Utilities) to do so.

  • Role Assignment Discovery Issue for Files and Folders through Sharepoint REST services

To preface, I am a decided Sharepoint newbie in every sense. I am trying to use the Sharepoint REST services (Sharepoint 2013) to walk the folder and file structure of my Sharepoint server and, determine as I go, the Role Assignments (and subsequently
Permissions) on those folders and files. I'm using an Administrator credentials and I'm actually able to successfully do it but I've run into some caveats. All the caveats begin with this; when I'm examining a folder, for example:
    /_api/Web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/sites/cmisdev/Development')/ListItemAllFields
I receive either an empty list or an error response doc when following the link supplied for ListItemAllFields.  When following that kind of link for folders, I either get:
    <d:ListItemAllFields
    m:null="true"
    />
or an error response document that says "The object specified does not belong to a list." When I hit the /ListItemAllFields endpoint for files, I receive a response with a link for Role Assignments which subsequently also works and I get the
info I need. So, is this a bug? Why does the link returned from Sharepoint work for files and not folders? So, google, google, google, and I discover that there is another possible way to get at the Role Assignments (and that the object does, indeed, belong
    to a list!).
If I know the Title (or the guid) of the folder in question, I can use the following endpoint:
    /_api/Web/Lists/GetByTitle('Development')
If I use that endpoint, I get the information I would have expected to get from following /ListItemAllFields and the subsequent Role Assignments links all work and I get what I need. If there's a bug and this is how I have to work around it, that's fine
but I have yet to discover how to dynamically determine the Title of a given folder nor am I sure if all Titles are supposed to be unique within a given Sharepoint server. I'm assuming that the folder name as represented in the server relative URL and the
Title may be different and this is where my newbishness may start to shine if I'm misunderstanding what a "List" is supposed to be in Sharepoint. Anyway, I did find that I could use the Properties endpoint to perhaps get the Title, for example:
    /_api/Web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/sites/cmisdev/Development')/Properties
    gives me:
    <d:vti_x005f_listtitle>Development</d:vti_x005f_listtitle>
whose value I assume I could then supply to the /GetByTitle endpoint and be golden. However, "vti_x005f_listtitle" just sounds a little too deep to be something I should be relying on but maybe that's kosher. That's part of what I'm trying to
find out. Also, if there is a way to use the Sharepoint REST API to discover the guid of a given object, then I could look it up in that way.
    So, in summary:
    1. Am I going about getting folder Role Assignment information in the wrong way? Based on the CSOM examples I've seen, I believe I'm doing it correctly and that the answer to #2 below is a resounding "Yes!" :)
    2. Is it a bug if I'm not able to use /ListItemAllFields on folders using the server relative url?
    3. If I'm supposed to use GetByTitle as a workaround, am I discovering that Title correctly through /Properties? Seems quite circuitous and awkward. Are Titles required to be unique throughout a given Sharepoint server?
    4. If I'm supposed to use the guid, how can I use the REST interface to discover an object's guid? Once we get down to the Role Assignments and other links, the guid appears in those links but I don't know how to discover it independently if that's the
path I should use to get the data I described above.

Upon further research, I'll answer my own question for the benefit of some other potential future newbie.  The answer to question number 1 above is "Not exactly.".  The server relative URLs I was using corresponded to lists (which are
returned as a collection through /_api/web/lists).  I was treating them mentally like regular folders.  That, coupled with the fact that accessing their data as I showed above returns a ListItemAllFields link, made me think that was the way to get
the Role Assignments just as I would for files and, as it turns out, "real" folders and sub-folders created under these lists.  That was the other problem with thinking of these lists as regular folders.  So, ListItemAllFields works on
all files and folders in a list.  However, if you want Role Assignments for the lists themselves, you can keep track of the Titles and\or Guids from the /_api/web/lists that you're interested in (in my case, all non-hidden "document library"
type lists) and then access those Role Assignments as I discussed in questions 3 and 4 above.  For example, from the /_api/web/lists collection from my test server, the "Development" document library Role Assignments are accessable via /_api/Web/Lists(guid'cd242eeb-aafa-4efa-aecc-9bbdf8e3d459')/RoleAssignments
    or /_api/Web/Lists/GetByTitle('Development')/RoleAssignments.

  • Little help please regarding deleting files and folders...

My wife has a MBP and has accumulated some old items in her documents folder that she'd like to delete. She has a USB mouse but the "right click" doesn't appear to work. She's running 10.4.11 and can't reveal the files in icon mode to facilitate dragging to trash. Certainly there is a sequence of keystroke commands that will allow these files to be effectively trashed, but our "control/delete", or "apple/delete", or "option/delete" doesn't do the trick after highlighting the subject file. Help please! TIA!

To delete a file or folder, high light it then using the keyboard type Command Delete and that will delete it. If you have multiple files and/or folders the same keyboard commands apply.

  • Spotlight missing files and folders?

Spotlight consistently misses certain files and entire folders, which I can find by rummaging through my finder, but can't find by searching in Spotlight. No these are not hidden files or library folders. Yes I have checked my privacy settings and used the privacy options to re-index spotlight. Why would Spotlight miss certain folders? Does it only search to a certain depth? How can I get Spotlight to search these folders?

    Step 1
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -F '$Time $Message' -k Sender mdworker -o -k Message Rne Norm -k Sender mds | tail | pbcopy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.
    Step 2
Enter the following command as in Step 1 and post the output:
    mdutil -as 2>&- | pbcopy
    You can then quit Terminal.
    Step 3
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Terminal. In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for crash reports related to Spotlight. If you don't see that heading, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. A Spotlight crash report has a name beginning in "mds" or "mdworker" and ending in ".crash". Select the most recent such report, if any, from the System and User subcategories and post the entire contents—the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs—they're very long and not helpful.
