Disappearing icons (hidden)

When I look for some Word or Excel files I know are there, they are neither visible as icons or in lists, but can be seen and opened from inside Word and Excel.
Does anyone know how this could occur? How can it be fixed? Sometimes, tghey are visible, but disappear when double-clicked.

RSpradlin, thanks for your inquiry. This issue is normally caused when an application is installed to the SD card and the SD is somehow unmounted mostly by plugging it into a computer. Do you have an SD card adapter that you are using with this device? If so, try moving those apps back to the internal memory. Are the same applications disappearing each time? Try uninstalling the app then re-installing.

  • Hiding IND CS3 with Leopard 10.5.4 (still disappearing when hidden)

    Hello all...
I updated Leopard to 10.5.4 as I was told it would resolve the "disappearing act" IND CS3 does when you hide the program and then come back to it... It seemed all good for the last couple of days until I just noticed the disappearing act again just now. I'd try and bring the program to the foreground, the icon says it's there, Apple+Tab says it's there and the first program opened, but I don't see anything, despite hitting the tab key (to toggle tool boxes & palettes) or launching documents outside of the program's Open command...
    anyone else?

Oh yes, happens to me too - I'm pretty sure this is Apple related as a lot of other people have had the same thing happen with other apps. I sometimes get the same thing happening with Bryce.
In my extremely-non-expert-but-completely-by-educated-guesswork opinion, it's something to do with memory.

  • Disappearing Icons/Controls in Blur Gallery and Lighting Effects Filters

About a month ago (after I downloaded Photoshop 2014 but BEFORE the most recent update); I found that the adjustable tack icon (in Field Blur) and the light icons (in Lighting Effects) have disappeared.  I can still adjust their controls but they don't appear on the screen so I'm not sure where exactly they are and thus can't move them.  Anyone else had this issue?  This has persisted after the most recent update.

Could you please post a screenshot to illustrate the issue?
    What are the Performance Preferences?
What have you done for general trouble-shooting so far (restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be of special interest)?

  • (Not) Disappearing icons?

After the pre-installation of Tiger and update-ing to 10.4.11 something strange happens with the icons in the Finder and Trash. When I download a file from Safari, an icon xxxxx.download appears in Finder. But when the file has been downloaded, this icon remain there and when I click on it it disappear! If I want to find the file I have to open the Downloads window from Safari and find it from there.
The other issue is with the Trash. When I try to empty the recycle bin the icons stay there and the Trash icon is as a full one. The files are deleted, but the icons remain in the Trash.
Is there anything I can do other than preinstalling the whole OS again?

Ok, Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, drag that file out again, reboot when it finishes.

  • Disappearing Icons From Dock

Within the past week or so, for no particular reason I can identify, my iTunes icon in my dock has disappeared. There is currently a space where it should be and when I move my cursor over it it says iTunes, but there is no icon. It is like it's invisible. This has also happened recently when I have downloaded content, say a pdf file, that then automatically opens. The Preview app opens the document fine, but then another invisible icon appears (or not, cause it's invisible) in my doc for Preview. Just like the iTunes icon, it's there, and when I move over it with my cursor, it shows it's there, but the graphical icon is just not visible.
Any clues or solutions for this? Thanks!

It may be LaunchServices. These are only cache files but can get corrupted.
Launch /Utilities/Terminal and copy & paste this at the command line to rebuild LaunchServices:
    Code:
    <pre class="alt2" style="margin:0px; padding:3px; border:1px inset; width:640px; height:34px; overflow:auto">/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user</pre>
Then press return. Wait until terminal returns to the command line. Quit Terminal. After that, log out and back in or restart. Let us know

  • Disappearing Icons from Home Screen

Has anyone else experienced their icons disappearing from their home screen? Then reappear randomly by either pressing the back key or home key.... It's really weird, but it consistently happens with my Handcent SMS app. Anyone else experience that?

Cs72313, thank you for your inquiry. That is very strange. I have a Nexus also and have not noticed any of my applications disappearing from the home screen. If this is only happening with Handcent, try uninstalling the application and re-installing. Also check the reviews to see if other Nexus users are reporting this issue for Handcent and alert the developer.

  • There's this mysterious appearing/disappearing icon in my Dock...

...that every so often spontaneously opens up, then closes right away. I can never get a good look at it, but it appears to be a white "page" (like the TextEdit dock icon) with what looks like a green part in the upper left corner and a black part in the lower right area.
What application might that icon belong to? And should I worry about it?

To clarify, it doesn't happen after each loading of a webpage -- I'm not even sure if it is triggered by opening a web page at all. Sometimes I'll just be watching the screen and it will happen.
Again, the trouble is that the icon just appears and disappears in the Dock before I can get a good look.
I'll try to take a full-screen snapshot (Command-Shift-3) the next time it appears, and hopefully I'll catch it in time...

  • Disappearing icon graphics

the graphics for the icons on my desktop keep disappearing, all that remains is a dotted line around where it once was. the file name remains intact. Does any one know why? Have a screen shot but cannot see how to add it to message?

Probably a hosed LaunchServices database. Launch the Terminal app in /Applications/Utilities/, copy & paste this one-line command into the window that pops up, and hit the command key:
*/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchS ervices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user*
Quit the Terminal app, restart, and see if that fixes the issue.

  • Disappearing icons on toolbar. How do i get them back?

My icons on the toolbar keep disappearing. I can still click the button but the pictures have gone. When this happens other websites such as Facebook and Google lose their icons too. Why does this happen and how can i get them back? Do i need to update my firefox?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I updated my firefox

This happens to me too but in the Bookmarks Toolbar. Out of 15 or so Favicons I have on the Bookmarks Toolbar four or five disappear (pictures are gone but gray outline still remains with text, see accompanying pictures) each time I close Firefox 3.6.3 in Windows XP. If I visit the site the favicon pictures are restored, until I close the Firefox. Any suggestions. Thanks.

  • The Documents folder icon hidden...

The Documents icon in my Home folder is hidden. The icon still appears in the sidebar, but it is missing in the finder windows and Open & Save dialog boxes.
I can navigate to the Documents folder from the sidebar as well as using the Terminal. All of my documents that are saved in the Documents folder are still there and accessible, but the folder is not accessible from a shared computer.
Is there any way to restore the hidden attribute of the Documents folder?

  • HT4623 Disappearing icons ios7

Having updated my iphone to iOS7, I find that many of my app icons have disappeared even though the App Store shows the apps are installed. Without an icon, of course, I cannot uninstall an app. How may I deal with this problem?

I faced the same problem. What I did was to connect the iPhone to my Mac, open iTunes, open the iPhone there to apps, carry the missing apps from iTunes to the iPhone and that was it.
Apparently, this is a bug of ios 7 which will, hopefully, be corrected with the coming ios 7 update.

  • Amazing disappearing icons !!!!!!!

Hello all, this is my first post on my first mac !!!! feels good i have to say.
Any hoo, I think i'll start off with a simple one......
For some reason the icons in my finder window and desktop seem to have faded by about 50% . I'm sure it was me clicking something wrong because they were perfect a few days ago!!
    Would anyone have any ideas!!!!!
    Thanks
    el Alpaca
PS I'm just about install OWC 2gigs of RAM........ done this on PC many times, I've never opened a mac before..........

Faded/transparent icons tends to signify that you are showing hidden/inisible files. Did you by any chance turn that on? If you didn't then download a tool like TInkerTool…
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11967
… and see if it is turned on. If it is just turn it off and restart the Finder.
