Disappearing Items from iPod

Hi,
I've previously had problems with tracks randomly disappearing from the browse menu of my iPod. The items would still be in my itunes as well as taking up space on the iPod, but just would not show up on the iPod menus, such as "songs", "artists", etc. Awhile ago, I noticed that if I filled out the "Album" field of the track (even if I just put "unknown"), the tracks would not disappear. Any track left blank was susceptible to vanish. I thought that my cleverness had solved the issue, until recently.
Now, similar things are happening to my videos. Both videos marked as "TV shows" and "Music Videos" are now disappearing from their menus. If I go to Itunes and right click and "mark them as new", and then re-sync, they once again come up. However, that's a tedious and repetitive solution for an issue which has to have a better fix. If you could let me know, that would be great.
Finally, I've only started uploading Music Videos to my iPod. I've noticed that you can play the MUSIC only, off the music videos, from the music menu. My question is: Do the music videos come up if I shuffle songs? Is there a point for me to have both a music track AND its music video, if I use the shuffle songs feature frequently and want to conserve space?
Thanks in advance for all the help!

Regarding the tv shows and videos that you have to mark as new...with your iPod connected to iTunes and selected in DEVICES, click the tabs for TV Shows and/or Videos and check your syncing prefs. You may be set to only sync new episodes. Set it to sync all and this should fix the problem.
Regarding the music videos in your music files, etc. You don't have a music file and a video file. It's the same file showing up in two different menus. And, yes, the "video" will play with your music when you Shuffle, but you can do Get Info on the file in iTunes and set it to Skip When Shuffling. Be aware, though, that if you have the video in a playlist and shuffle the playlist (with ithe file set to skip), it won't shuffle then either.

It doesn't work when I press "transfer purchased items from ipod" and I don't know specidicly whitch item I need to transfer.
Whenever i press "transfer purchased items from ipod", itunes sync's for about 3 seconds, but I still can't install updates on the ipod without itues warning me about purchased items on the ipod, that aren't in the itunes library. I've tried folowing the steps in itunes help, but I can only find a step guide for when you know the specific item that needs transferring, and I donøt know that specific item.

This Apple Tech Note explains the process:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
It will transfer all purchased items that the computer you are transferring to is authorised to play: you don't have to select the items.

Deleted items from Ipod Nano to make room for new. Emptied trash. Still getting error message when I try to copy items from ITunes to Ipod. What should I do now?

If you delete songs (and other items) from the main iTunes library, yes, you need to empty the Trash because iTunes puts the song files into the Trash.  When deleting items from an iPod, the items are not being deleted from the main iTunes library, so nothing should end up in the Trash.
Hopefully, you are not deleting items from your main iTunes library, just to sync those deletions from the iPod.  If you are, there is a better way.  You can post back if you want more info...

  • Purchased items from ipod won't sync to computer

I bought a ton of music on my ipod from the itunes store. I just got an iphone, so I'm trying to transfer my purchased songs from my ipod to my itunes computer library so I can put them on my iphone, but the purchased items won't sync.

To transfer purchased iTunes Store songs from iPod to computer, select the iPod in iTunes.  You can do this from the sidebar.  Click on the iPod under DEVICES.
NOTE:  If the iTunes sidebar is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
With the iPod selected in iTunes, from the menu bar
File -> Devices -> Transfer Purchases from "[name of iPod]"
Alternately, you can re-download previous purchases from the iTunes Store at no cost.  On the iTunes Store Home screen, under QUICK LINKS, click on Purchased.  On the Purchased screen, you can find and download previously purchased songs, including those made on the iPod touch.
NOTE:  You need to be signed in to the iTunes Store using the same Apple ID used to make the purchases on the iPod touch.
Also, if you use the same Apple ID on the iPhone, you should be able re-download (at no cost) previous purchases from the iTunes Store, directly on the iPhone.

  • Replaced Hard Drive and Trying to Bring in Purchased Items from iPod

The MacGenius I talked to yesterday said that I could do this, and made it sound like it would be automatic, but I have found (with the replacement of my hard drive) that sometimes these guys forget to mention a step.
Right now, when I sync my iPod, I get a message that my purchased items are not "authorized" to play on this computer.

*If this computer is authorized through the same account, then theoretically I should be able to play any of the purchased songs on my iPod as well, right?*
Correct, if the songs on the iPod were from the same iTunes Store account as the one the computer is authorised for they should play on both devices. Try deauthorising your Mac and authorise it over again, this can sometimes clear a "not authorised" problem. Make sure for instance that the Mac has only been authorised once, see this article: One computer using multiple iTunes Music Store authorizations.
If you continue to have problems you can email Customer Services from this page and they might be able to help: iTunes Music Store - Authorization FAQ

  • Moving items from ipod to computer/itunes

Can someone assist me? im having trouble. I want to know if i can move what music i have on my ipod, onto my computer. Or at least onto my library in itunes. Im not sure how to go about it. As i want to put all my music into library, back up music, then delete music off my ipod to start over!? Please help!

Apple doesn't support the transferring of music from your iPod to your iTunes. Only iTunes to iPod. So to do this you will need to download a third party program that will help copy your music from your iPod back to your computer, or there are a couple manual methods you can check out.

How to get songs off of your Windows iPod - cnet

If your iPod is set to automatically update and you plug it into iTunes, a message will pop up telling you that your iPod is linked to another library. It will ask if you want to sync and replace all your music. Make sure you hit NO. If you sync with an empty library, then your iPod will also end up empty, because when it syncs it makes an exact copy of your library.
Goodluck, hope something works for ya

  • Can I recover disappeared songs from iPod before I reformat?

Hi, I have a 20GB Clickwheel iPod (black and white screen), Mac-formatted, and the computer I primarily use it with is an iBook running iTunes 4.8.
Sometime on Saturday my iPod started acting funny, first giving me the dreaded exclamation point/folder, then working but randomly skipping (and not playing songs). Finally, after I did a force-reset (menu+select), the iPod now says it has "0" (zero) songs on it, despite the fact that it also says 18.4 of the 18.6 GB are used up.
Making matters worse, when I connect the iPod to my computer, it says that the Mac doesn't recognize the drive plugged in, giving me the option to ignore, initialize or eject. The iPod does not show up on my desktop, in iTunes or in Finder. It does, however, appear in Disk Utility. This happens regardless of whether I plug the iPod in through regular or disk mode. I downloaded the latest iPod software update, and if I choose open it, it does seem like it will allow me to do a "reformat", but the "update" option is grayed out.
Therefore, here's my question: Is there any way I can save the mp3s on my iPod before (or without) doing a reformatting? This problem happened to me years ago on my old 10GB PC-formatted iPod and I was just able to plug it in and pull the files out of the hidden folders. Now, I can't seem to do this (or don't know how on this Mac). I read something on one of these posts about using the program terminal, which gave instructions to get ALL the mp3s off a crashed iPod, but I haven't tried that because the final complication is that the iBook I'd be moving them to only has 5gb free, so I need to move them a few pieces at a time.
Can anyone help me here??? I'm using all the patience and will i can possibly muster to withhold doing the reformat until i'm certain i won't be able to save these mp3s.
    Thanks so much!!!
    -Ben

Hey man, I'm in the same hole. I hope to get to the local Apple Store today. Will post if I get an answer. Hope you figure it out, and if so, please pass the knowledge.

  • Ipod nano 3rd gen.  some albums have suddenly disappeared from ipod, but they are showing as ticked on itunes library, have bought more tracks since on itunes and they are showing, any help please

ipod nano 3rd gen - tracks (whole albums) have disappeared from ipod but are showing ticked in itunes library and ipod is synched, have bought tracks from itunes since this happened and they are fine, any help please

You may have transferred all your songs, but your iPad is seeing the library as a different entity.
The following article(s) may help you.

  • Some purchased items won't transfer from iPod to new computer

I purchased a new iMac from the Apple Store online to replace an old iMac G4. I can't get anything to migrate using Migration Assistant. I can't get the old G4 to start as a target drive. I've tried using an ethernet cable in addition to firewire. I get indications the two computers are connected, but neither can see the other's drive. I've tried mounting the drive from the G4 to the new iMac using a temporary drive box with a USB connection. That doesn't work. Anyway, that's really not what I'm asking about here.
I've also tried backing up my entire iTunes library on the old G4 to DVD. Although I burned 13 fricking blank DVDs, and all indications were that the backup was successful, when I tried to restore to the new iMac, about half of my library didn't go across. I can't find any reason why some things went and others did not.
So now, I figured that if I could simply transfer the 591 items I've purchased over the years from iTunes, from my iPod to the new iMac, I'd be a happy man. I know it's a pain in the butt, but I can always get out my CDs and add them again to the iTunes library on the new iMac.
I authorized the new iMac to play the items I've purchased on iTunes. The new iMac and the old G4 are the only two computers I have authorized to play the purchased music.
Now, the problem is that when I try to transfer my purchased items from my iPod to the iTunes library on the new computer, I get a dialogue box that states:
"Some of the purchased items on the iPod "***'s iPod", including "Symphony No. 41 in C, "Jupiter" K. 551: II. Andante Cantibile", could not be transferred to your iTunes library because you are not authorized to play them on this computer."
***!! Notice that it said "purchased itemS?" There are another 99 purchased songs that can't be transferred because I'm not authorized to play them. I paid for them! Yet the other 491 purchased songs are okay? None of this makes any sense to me. I've done everything I know to do.
I purchased an Apple Care warranty for the new iMac. I'm just wondering if I take the old G4 and the new iMac to my local Apple Store, if they will migrate this stuff over for me for free. I love Macs, and I can't believe this has become so difficult.
If anyone has any ideas on what I'm doing incorrectly or how I can make this transfer work of just my music purchased from iTunes, I would be most grateful.

    bump . . .
I'm seeing that there is a bug with iTunes 8 regarding authorization. Do you think this is the source of my problem? Thanks.

  • How to transfer purchased item from itunes to an ipod

how to transfer purchased item from itunes to an ipod? Spent about an hour and cannot figure out how to do that The best result this far was smth. like this to Sync a book means that all your music, songs, TV show and movies will be erased. What a strange Apple logic!

That message indicate that you are trying to sync with other than the one syncing computer/iTunes library that yo can have. You have to two choices:
    - Make this computer your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - The manual method of syncng specified here:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    or
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
The manaul method on works for music and videos on other than your one syncing computer.

  • Outlook 2013: Imported or copied items from .pst file disappear after a few seconds

I am migrating from an open source email platform (Axigen) to Outlook/Exchange 2013. The Axigen system uses a connector for Outlook allowing users to use Outlook as a client.
To move from Outlook 2010 with the Axigen server to Outlook 2013 with Exchange I have exported the entire mailbox from Outlook 2010 to a .pst file which I am then trying to import into Outlook 2013.
The import process appears to complete successfully and the imported items show up in Outlook 2013 - but only for a second or two. Then they disappear completely, nowhere to be found. This happens with  ontacts, emails and calendar items and the result
is the same whether I import the entire mailbox or just a folder at a time.
If I OPEN the .pst file into Outlook 2013 everything in it looks perfectly OK, I can view items with no problems, all folders are there with their correct content. Now if I try to move or copy
items from the opened .pst file into the Outlook 2013 mailbox, I get the exact same symptoms as when importing. Items show for a couple of seconds and then disappear. If I copy or move a
folder, the folder remains in the Outlook 2013 folder tree but the items in it disappear.
Why would items be perfectly visible and readable from an opened .pst file but disappear when they are copied into the new 2013 mailbox?
They are not visible in OWA either, btw, so this is not just Outlook not displaying them, they are really gone. Checking the folder size in Outlook shows an empty folder (size 0, 0 messages). I have tried the /cleanviews switch when starting Outlook.
This has me completely stumped. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

    More strangeness:
I set up an Android phone to sync with this account just now. I imported my contacts list from the phone into the Exchange account. After sync, all the contacts are perfectly visible on the phone, but NOT in Outlook 2013 or in OWA...
So maybe it is some sort of display filter thing after all?
That's unbelieveable that message is visiable in Android phone through Exchange ActiveSync but cannot be viewd in OWA...
For the database session, we may enable
Exchange Mailbox Audit logging(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff461937(v=exchg.150).aspx) to check if the message is indeed upload into DB from Outlook.
For the client level, please enable Outlook logging to log what happens inside outlook to aid in your troubleshooting.
We can enable Outlook logging in Outlook 2013 under File > Options > Advanced > "Other" section
Log files are created as .etl files and stored in %userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp.  A new log file is created each time Outlook starts.

Okay, I have enabled Outlook logging. However I cannot find any way to read those .etl files.
I also enabled audit logging in Exchange but as I understand it that will not log operations performed by the mailbox owner, only non-owner access.
I think I am close to giving up on this. I can't believe an enterprise email platform will simply delete messages copied into a mailbox without any error message whatsoever, and no way for an admin to track what is happening.
It is definitely happening when syncing with Exchange, so there must be something in these items (and
remember this happens not only to email messages, but also to Contacts) that makes the Exchange server decide these messages should be discarded witout warning.
One other thing: Folders copied from the .pst are visible on Outlook (although their contents are deleted) but not on ActiveSync clients. If I create a new folder in the mailbox, it syncs as it should.
