Disappearing loops

Hi everyone.
I just bought a 15inch Macbook Pro and I've been having issues with the loops in Garageband.
Let me take you through everything I have done.
I got my Macbook home and I my old Mac mini to transfer its data onto my new Macbook Pro. My Mac mini was running iLife 06 very well.
After the transfer had finished, and I started running Mac OS X for the first time on the laptop, I firstly updated the software, using "Software Updater". This included an update for Garageband.
I open Garageband for the first time, and find that half of the loops are shaded grey, and won't playback. These are loops that I know exist because I used them on the previous version.
I did some investigating and found the "Audio Loops" folder, "Library" -> "Audio". I discovered that there were two types of file in the folder; .aif and .caf.
Half of the loops are just the .aif files. These are the loops that are coming up grey in Garageband.
The other half of the loops have two copies of themselves, one .aif, the other .caf.
I've tried to find a way to reinstall Garageband, but the Install Disc won't let me reinstall Garageband for some reason.
How can I sort it out so that I can get these loops working in Garageband again.

First of all: you shouldn't switch to a new computer by copying the files over by hand - you'll miss essential stuff that is in the Library folders. That's what the Migration Assistant is for.
You can copy the Loops folder(s) over to your new system. If you have duplicate loops, keep the .caf version. After cleaning up, drag the folder(s) onto GB's Loop Browser, that should make those loops available in GB.

All of my instrument loops from Garage band '09 have disappeared. What do I do?

All of the insturment loops I have been using have disappeared. They don't show up in new projects, nor are they accessible in old ones that were created using the loops. I have tried to locate the loops on the HD as others have posted but they are not there. They only loops that exist there are the FX loops which I have access to. Why has this happened and what can I do? Using an iMac if that makes a difference. Also, I suspect that a software update may have been conducted recently, so this might suggest where the problem started. Can I check if one indeed has? (I'm not the only user of the computer).

Well we need a lot more information
like what version of iPhoto and of the OS? What recently changed? do you have a backup?
If you depress and hold the opeion key and launch iPhoto do you see multiple libraries in the select library window that results? If you do check each one

Apple loops have disappeared?

I clicked on Re-Index apple loops user library, and all my loops disappeared. I went on garageband and re indexed them again there, but not all of my loops have appeared.
I've reindexed spotlight, I've re installed Logic, but they're still not there. Why? 130 pounds isn't cheap for software that doesn't work...
Oh and also some of the instruments have disappeared.

So were mine (I forgot to put in "Audio") but they aren't any longer and I'm wondering why Spotlight can't see them.

Green loops disappear--how to get them back without reloading LExpress?

I just got the new macbook pro with Logic express pre-installed. As I'm doing the tutorial, everything is going just as the tutorial says it should. Then, when I go to open the next loop, logic asks me if I want to change something. I don't know what it was asking me to do! And the tutorial didn't mention anything about that, so when it asked me for my password to do so, I just pressed cancel. After that, all the green loops disappeared! I don't know how to get them back and I'm really frustrated! the tutorial wants me, for example, to go to elec piano and all drums, but they are greyed out and i can't click on them. Then, I started right clicking those buttons to see if I can get them to open, and I pressed other buttons and it changed the buttons. (ex: right click All Drums>genre, Instrument, descriptors. When I chose one of those, the all drums button disappeared and now I have a different button there. How do I get the green loops back and make the loops tab the way it originally was???? WHAT DID I DO?!?! A previous poster said he fixed it by uninstalling Logic, and reinstalling it but I don't want to do that.

I am sure this is a bug and you have to report this to Apple ASAP. Describe what you did exactly. This is the second time I see a LE9 user having such a problem. And it is a very annoying tendency, if you ask me.
There is no other way apparently to have this fixed than to re-install Logic Express.

Sorry to be a dunce, but I am technically challenged and can't figure out how to do what you suggest. However, my lightroom now only lists three things under "Catalog" and basically only the 16 folders that didn't disappear are there, so I suspect it isn't just the fact that I opened the wrong catalog. It would seem, then, that for some unknown reason, my folders have been removed. So, the question is, how do I find them and put them back into lightroom?

Loop choices disappear

Some of the time--not always, and I can't identify anything that changes when it does or doesn't happen--my loop choices disappear to read "zero" when I try to move to the second page of loops in some given category. At that point the category is frozen, and I can only unfreeze it by clicking on another category. Always, the first page of loops is accessible, but when this happens, if I go to the second page of that category, I'm frozen with zero loops. Finally I found that if I use the text list mode for the categories, they are all available. So this only happens when I use the graphic buttons view for the loop choices. Relaunching the program doesn't get them back consistently--rebooting and relaunching doesn't get them back consistently. Sometimes they reappear, and sometimes only for certain categories.
If I should reinstall the program, what are the steps for uninstalling and reinstalling programs on the Mac? I'm accustomed to Windows but don't see anything comparable on the Mac for this.

The v10.26 driver for the iP6700D still has the Paper Source menu under Q&M on 10.6. I can only think that something is conflicting with your installation of the driver. I would trash the contents of the BJPrinter folder, located in HD > Library > Printers > Canon. Then install the v10.26 driver again and see if the menus are present.
There were two versions of printer drivers available for 10.5, v5.8.3 and v10.xx. If you had the version 5 installed and had presets based on this driver, then they will not work correctly with the v10 driver on 10.6. You should Delete these presets and create new ones once you get the Q&M menu appearing on your install.

Whenever I enter a loop point, menu background disappears

I've tried all sorts of combinations of menu duration/hold forever/animate buttons with different time lengths..but no matter what, if I enter a time for Loop Point, the background of my menu disappears.
I got it working once by deleting the menu and redoing everything, but now that doesnt work. Please help! All I'm trying to do is have a chapter menu with each chapter showing a video preview about 5 seconds long. I'm using one of the standard menus provided by Encore.
Does anyone know how to get it to work properly?

I don't recall where I formed the belief, but I generally do not mix a motion background and animate buttons. I use a still background with animate buttons. If I wanted to mix a motion background and animate buttons, I'd do it all in After Effects rather than using Encore for the animate buttons. (You can in fact mix a motion background and animate buttons in Encore, but it does odd things like the one you are describing.)
I believe the "loop point" refers to the motion background and not animate buttons alone. So when you set a loop point without a motion asset, you see black behind your buttons. You can work around this by making a video of your still menu background, and selecting that as your motion asset.
All I see in the help document regarding loop point is for motion menus.

Midi apple loops disappear. Why?

All blue (audio loops) remain in the loop folder, I had greens before but all of sudden they has gone. I downloaded additional content, but says it's complete.

This is normal behavior. If you want the midi loop to sound exactly like auditioned in the preview you will have to create an audio track and move the midi region onto the audio track, and then it will sound exactly the same.

Apple Loops disappeared

Hi gang,
I created two Apple Loops from a couple audio regions in my session so I could adjust the tempo. Only one of the regions succesfully converted and imported to an apple loop, but now my entire Apple Loop library is gone and I have have those two loops that I created. (of which only one works with audio in it)
How can I restore my Loops library?

Im having the same issue with my Logic 8 Pro. When i clicked on a loop that was not there, i accidentally selected clear all loops and now I have none! they are currently on my hard disk because I can see them. I just cannot get them back into logic 8! WHAT THE HEY!?

Some of my apple loops are not showing up in my loop browser. Its not because of any options, I have checked that all out. The loops are still on my computer but they don't show up in my loop browser.

I think something is wrong with the apple loop browser. do you happen to have alot of loops loaded in?
I import loop folders all the time. with the same kind of files in them. yet sometimes only half or even less than half show up after "indexing"

Logic Pro loops disappear when I re-index?

I'm trying to delete some of the loops in logic to save some space on my SSD as I know I will never touch some of then.
However I located them in finder and moved them to the trash, but when I try and re-index my loops library, I enter my password and the Logic Index goes blank, as if to say their are no loops, until I restart Logic Pro 9 then they all re-appear (Inclkuding the ones I have deleted using finder)
Why can I not re-index my loops without losing them all?
