Disappearing Password in Mail

From time to time I get in Mail the message that " no incoming mail can be received".
I then have to go to >Mail >Preferences > Account information >Password and re-type my password >Safe.
This opens up the incoming mail again.
The strange thing is that for a while mail is received normally and then suddenly I have to do this again!
How can I avoid this problem?

First place to check is your mail providing service.   Particularly if it is AOL.
You may also need to check Keychain access and that should be done with care.   See the link here

  • Passwords in mail are disappearing...

My passwords in mail are disappearing. I feel this is not a bug but rather a malicious attack on my computer. I've tried everything I could think of but when I go to mail | preferences | accounts the passwords are gone. I use Keychain to store the passwords but to no avail they keep disappearing. Could I have a virus or malicious attacker doing this to me? I've tried everything I could think of with no luck. It's working fine at the moment but all of a sudden they disappear and not all at the same time as I have multiple email accounts setup through mail.app.
    Help!!! Thanks!!

Passwords disappearing from both mail and keychain... odd.
It’s not that the password disappears from both Mail and the keychain. Mail saves your password in the keychain and nowhere else, reads it from there when needed, and apparently also removes the password from the keychain when it thinks is invalid...
I thought Keychain's function was to preserve and protect passwords not erase them.
The purpose of the keychain isn’t to preserve anything, but rather to make certain pieces of information accessible to authorized agents only. There is nothing wrong with allowing the agent that stored something there to remove it later.
The problem has nothing to do with the keychain itself, but rather with the fact that Mail sometimes assumes the password is invalid when that’s not the case.
Is mail 4.0 new for OS X 6.0 (Snow Leopard)??
    Yes.
I could swear I had this problem prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.
This I don’t know. I do know, however, that it happens in Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), but didn’t happen in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

  • Passwords in mail preferences being erased automatically

Why are passwords being automatically erased in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Incoming mail server which causes pop up screens asking for passwords? This happens multiple times for the same email accounts.

  • Recently changed my password for mail, can still read my mail, but the drop down keeps appearing, asking for my password and saying it's incorrect. Totally confused.

I Recently changed the password for mail, on iMac. I can still read my mail, but the drop down keeps appearing, asking for my password, then telling me it's incorrect. Totally confused.

If your password is accepted, and Mail connects to the account, but you're prompted for the password repeatedly, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Note: these steps don't apply if the server rejects the password. That's a different problem.
    Step 1
When prompted for the password, check the box marked Remember this password in my keychain.
    Step 2
Check that the keychain is working.
    Step 3
Check that the default keychain is unlocked.

  • Password e-mail when not requested

I just received the password e-mail without having requested it. Probably just someone trying to get their own and putting in the wrong userid.
I can easily see some infrequent user saying "did I sign up as jhudson, jhudson1, joehudson, or what? I'll put them all in and see which one works".
But since it could possibly be a security breach, with someone trying sql injection to get passwords and ids e-mailed to themselves, etc., I wanted to report it.
No reply required. Just wanted to let you know.

But you typically need an authenticated server to send when you are not connected to that particular network.
It is already setup in the phone (presumably during activation). It can be turned on or off, but the settings can't be changed.
    Host Name: gprs.fido.ca
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 25
So if Rogers tech support didn't know this, its probably because they don't support it.
It is not unusual for them to not know the details of a particular phone.
I note some Rogers locations just use yahoo for mail. I think Yahoo does support authenticated SMTP.
Rogers uses Yahoo to handle their mail. They do use password authentication.

  • Remove Password from Mail

Whenever I click on the mail icon to get email, it asks me for a password. Then, sporadically and unpredictably, while I am using mail it will ask me again for the password (and again, and again). I don't want Mail to be passworded, although I password my computer to wake it. Can someone help me turn off the password to Mail? Thanks

I had been using Telus for several years when I started to get the exact same issue with Mail prompting me for my IMAP password three or four times a day. It turned out that it was a problem at Telus's end. A call to their tech support line confirmed that they were having an issue and that it would be resolved in a few days. It was.
    I've only made two changes lately;
    1) I reset my SMTP for a while as I was on the road but then set it back to the original config.
    2) I downloaded 10.6.4 update.
That and my own experience with my ISP leads me to believe your problem is with your ISP and not your Mac.

  • Password protecting mail

Hi, just wondering if there is a way to password protect mail?  Our iPad is shared in our home with my children who keep deleting messages and sending stuff so was wondering how to protect mail so they can't get in.  Thanks!

The Mail app can't currently be protected via Settings > General > Restictions, but there is this work-around. Alternatively you could see if there are any third-party email apps have a password option, or you could access your account via Safari (you could create a homescreen shortcut for your account's login page)

  • Can you have different passwords for mail account and ICloud?

Can you have different passwords for mail account and ICloud?

Yes - you want to go under Notifications, Mail.   Set each acct the way you want.

  • Password in Mail

When opening Mail, it requires a password for the internet provider. How can it be set so this password is not required? Thank you.

actually it continues asking for a passward.
I use 10 different mail accounts (all IMAP) - and after every single start of Mail.app i will be prompted for my passwords (but not the .Me-Mail account). That's quite anoying because it affects all SMTP servers as well at three different providers. There is no chance to save passwords for Mail.app anymore. I deleted all entrys for pop, imap and smtp in the login keychain of my standard account but even told so Mail.app isn't creating / saving the new values, all these fields are empty.
I tried nearly everything the last days: Beginning with repairing permissions and installing the combo update, deleting caches, resetting mail cache, resetting the acl's of my account via the system dvd, re-checking manually the permissions of the keychains an using Keychains first aid - even an absolutly clean install of Mac OS X 10.5.6 including newest security update didn't help. Or is this the key? SecUp 2009-001?
Same prob on my new MacBook 13" - I guess I haved synced the problem ... Damm ... +I ward' narrisch!+

  • Password recovery mail never arrives

    Hey,
I had now multiple issues with recovering the passwords for multiple apple id accounts.
    Those emails never arrive.
I requested a password recovery mail for about 10 times since yesterday evening. Nothing happens.
Other mails like the one you get after changing your apple id are coming through just fine, but password recovery emails are never!!!
It seems like this is an on purpose somehow, because it is broke for months if not years now.
    What is wrong there?
An NO, I do not want to call anyone. If something is offered to me, it should work.
Thanks for reading. I am looking forward to your answers.

We are fellow users here on these forums, we won't know why you aren't getting the emails.
If you have a rescue email address on your account(s) then you've checked the inbox and spam folder on that account as well ?
If not then do you remember your answers to your security questions - if you do then you should be able to reset your password by answering them : http://iforgot.apple.com
Otherwise you will have to contact Support in your country if you want your passwords resetting : Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security

  • HT1430 Where do I enter a password to mail accounts

Trying to send an email...error message says to enter a password in mail account settings...where does password go?

You can go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen. If it's an IMAP based account then tap on your id on the popup that you get and you'll get a screen where you can type your password for incoming mail, for setting a password for outgoing email you need to then tap on the SMTP setting ; for a POP based account you should get the password setting for incoming email on the first screen, and again go into SMTP to set it for outgoing

  • How do we change password on Mail

How do we change password on Mail ?

There is a tiny reset pushbutton on the Extreme. Depressing it momentarily will remove its wireless network password for two minutes, so that you may reconfigure it using AirPort Utility.
Holding it depressed for more than three seconds will necessitate a complete reconfiguration.
