Disappearing photos in "moments"

I recently noticed that about half my pictures are missing from my Photo moments, specifically the entire year of 2012 is not appearing in my "moments". If I go to my camera roll the pictures are there but for some reason they arent showing up in the "photos" section
Has anyone else had this happen or know what I can do to resolve this. Ive tried doing a soft reset and I have even did a complete reset and restore and I still have the same problem
Thanks

I am having the same problem. I'm using Snow Leopard & iPhoto '09. Whenever editing using any of the items in "adjust", the photo does not reprocess correctly. I am either left with half a black screen, or the photo goes black with horizontal lines in some places (a bit like TV fuzz in the old days). When I press done and go back to the normal view, the changes are saved but I have trouble viewing the photo in full screen again. I don't have this problem when editing in normal screen. Help?

  • Page background disappears for a moment on page turn in pdf

In indesign my document has a gradient page background (created in indesign) on the master page to make it look like a book. But when the page is turned in pdf, the background disappears for a moment, leaving the page white, then the background appears again; it does this nearly every time page is turned, flashing white. Does this have to do with pdf or indesign layers? I have only 1 layer in the indesign document, and transparency blend space is set to rgb.

Everytime you change the page Acrobat needs to redraw all of the page elements. The dealy is probably a reflection of the amount off video memory available, as much as anything.

  • How do I see which albums a specific photo in Moments/Collections have been added to?

How do I see which albums a specific photo in Moments/Collections have been added to?

In addition, it seems like Photos distinguish between the way pictures is managed in 'Albums' vs. 'Shared albums'. It seems like, removing a picture in Moments/Collections will remove the picture in the corresponding Albums (which I think is great) but not removing the picture in 'Shared albums'. In other words, a duplicate picture seems to be created when adding a picture to a shared album (instead of a reference picture like for 'Albums'). Am I correct? This is very confusing.
In that case, I assume I need to remove my original picture each time I add a picture to a 'Shared album' in order to avoid duplicates and reach some kind of "master" management of my pictures?

    - If the photos were taken by or saved to the iPod just use the computer's camera/image capture software to get them from the iPod.
    - If the photos were synced to the iPod you need a third-party program such as PhoneView of TouchCopy.

  • Grouping Causes Text Threads to Disappear; Photo commentary with captions

Is there a way to group picutres inside my text frames without making text threads disappear?  As soon as I select my text, photos, and jump text, the text threads disappear.
Also, is there a formal way of adding text commentary to a photo?  I'd like to use the term "captions" but I know that captions mean a different thing in InDesign.
    Thx!

    It worked, thanks.
Any information on the picture captions?

  • Disappearing Photo Albums in iWeb

I've seen so many posts on this topic here and elsewhere, but it never seems to be resolved. I had just added a new album to an iWeb created site this morning and though it was working correctly before this, now all of my albums are not showing up in every browser that I use, FF3, Safari and Chrome. I had had this problem with just the newest 1 out of 3 albums not showing up in just FF (showed up in other browsers...) a month back and then all of a sudden, it appeared and I was fine until today. ANY help would be appreciated. I really want this site up and running and iWeb, while easy to use, is quickly falling in my esteem for its reliability.
    http://www.this-old-jeep.com/ThisOld_Jeep/These_Old_Jeep_Photos/These_Old_JeepPhotos.html

Updated to Firefox 3.6. My Photo Albums display properly on an iWeb site in Safari; they also previously did with the Firefox version I had updated from. However, the photo albums have disappeared now from my Photo Album page.
    http://www.singingstring.org/JM/PhotoAlbums/PhotoAlbums.html
Apparently many people are having this problem but it isn't resolved for anyone. Is it Apple's problem or is it Firefoxe's -- and is this happening in IE too (we don't have IE here on our computers btw)
Since these are professionally-related photo albums it sure would be nice if this could be fixed pronto.

  • Disappearing photos in Edit mode

My photos disappear when I go into I-Photo edit mode.  I can see them in the overhead bar, and if I change the size I can see the photos, but the space where the photo normally appears is black.   If I make any changes, they then disappear from the Browser--an empty black square shows up.
I recently changed printers, but other than that, this seems to have come out of the blue.   I've had random photos show up black from time to time and always attributed it to something in the photo.  This seems to involve ALL of my photos.    Help!

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto and Flickr - disappearing photos and involuntary syncing

After control-clicking on Check Now in one of my Flickr albums, within iPhoto of course, all of the pictures in the album disappeared, leaving only the name of the album in the list of Flickr albums in iPhoto.
The set made from that album is still present on the Flickr website (so far), even after navigating away from the page and coming back. I have no idea what is going on.
I assumed that Check Now would sync any changes I made to photos in that Flickr set back to the same photos on iPhoto.
I am worried that Flickr is now going to delete all of those photos entirely from iPhoto (as well as from the Flickr site). That would be a big problem. It hasn't done that so far, but who knows? I understand that the syncing between iPhoto and Flickr is two way - i.e. true syncing.
When your changes in Flickr sync back to iPhoto, does Flickr change your original in iPhoto (or whatever is serving as your original for Flickr's purposes - that is, the most recently modified version in iPhoto), or is there a separate version created just for uploading to Flickr, that is stored in the Flickr album on iPhoto, and that is the only version that is changed by Flickr when it is syncing back (to iPhoto)? I hope it is the latter. If not, many of us may be in for a surprise.
Should I delete the empty Flickr album from iPhoto, which should have the effect of deleting that set and its photos from the Flickr website, and start all over? This was a big, long upload, which is why I am hesitating.
I just started using Flickr yesterday and have had some trouble with it - for example, I've deleted albums/sets and re-uploaded them, for various reasons. Perhaps I've confused the poor thing.
I have Flickr Pro, if that makes a difference.
    Confused.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
The Flickr tool in iPhoto is both pretty neat and pretty frustrating. While I think it is a good start, it still needs work. I probably can not answer most of your questions, but I can clarify a few and offer my own experiences...
The set made from that album is still present on the Flickr website (so far), even after navigating away from the page and coming back. I have no idea what is going on.
That is weird. So the Flickr set in iPhoto cleared itself but the actual set on Flickr is still intact, right? Have you tried restarting your computer, going to disk utility and repairing disk permissions on your start up drive, then restarting iPhoto?
If that doesn't clear it up, you might try rebuilding the iPhoto library by closing iPhoto then restarting while holding down the Option key. Then try some of the rebuild options and see where that gets you.
I assumed that Check Now would sync any changes I made to photos in that Flickr set back to the same photos on iPhoto.
The syncing is two ways, but the Flickr sync back to iPhoto is more limited. For example, if you add keywords in Flickr those keywords will be synced back to iPhoto. However if you add a photo from your flickr account into that album, Flickr will send a small version thumbnail back to iPhoto, not the original photo.
But yes, to answer your question, all syncing between iPhoto and Flickr is more or less a two way sync.
I am worried that Flickr is now going to delete all of those photos entirely from iPhoto (as well as from the Flickr site). That would be a big problem. It hasn't done that so far, but who knows? I understand that the syncing between iPhoto and Flickr is two way - i.e. true syncing.
First off, Flickr can never remove anything from your iPhoto library. Perhaps a photo might be removed from a flickr album in your iPhoto, but the photo will still exist in your library. So you can not lose anything from your library using Flickr.
Second, if the Flickr album in your iPhoto is empty but the photos are still in the album in Flickr, then they will not be removed later. The sync tends to be a real time event where if you remove photos from an iPhoto Flickr album, iPhoto then begins to remove them from Flickr as well.
My own experience is that sometimes things happen like you experienced, where the iPhoto Flickr album gets "disconnected" from the on-line Flickr album. At this point there is no longer a connection and one doesn't effect the other. I have not found a way to relink the two which is one of the weak points of the new iPhoto Flickr syncing.
As a side note, a nice feature would be a menu item to actually do that, disconnect iPhoto from an on-line album, as it would be nice to be able to upload an album, then disconnect it so no further changes are made to Flickr regardless of what happens to the iPhoto album. Basically a "do not update" setting.
To the best of my knowledge, Flickr does not sync back actual changes to the photo itself. It will sync back things like album name changes, title changes, keyword additions, and stuff like that. However I have never actually tried publishing an album to Flick then editing a photo in that album in Flickr to see what it does. I should try that to see. Generally, if I have used iPhoto to publish photos to Flickr, then I use iPhoto to make any edits to the photo, not Flickr.
Should I delete the empty Flickr album from iPhoto, which should have the effect of deleting that set and its photos from the Flickr website, and start all over? This was a big, long upload, which is why I am hesitating.
As I mentioned above, if the album in iPhoto is empty but everything is still intact on Flickr, then likely the album in iPhoto was "disconnected" (link lost) from the Flickr album. When you go into that album in iPhoto, does it still show a Flickr link in the upper left? If so, what happens when you click that link? Does it take you to the album?
I just started using Flickr yesterday and have had some trouble with it - for example, I've deleted albums/sets and re-uploaded them, for various reasons. Perhaps I've confused the poor thing.
Flickr is pretty good. It is the iPhoto to Flickr interface and syncing that is a bit weak. It sounds like your issues are with iPhoto's syncing with Flickr than with anything to do with Flickr itself.
I myself use a number of tools with Flickr and I find iPhoto doesn't offer many choices on how it works with Flickr. Actually it doesn't really offer any choices, you get one method of interaction and that is it. So for many tasks I use other tools to get photos onto Flickr.
That said, if you have a full album/event you want to put on Flickr, the iPhoto interface is very handy for publishing a set on Flickr with keywords, map data, etc. and allows you to edit photos later and have those updates automatically go to Flickr as well. But with that comes some problems like being able to edit a photo in iPhoto for a different purpose, perhaps forgetting you added it to a Flickr album since you are accessing the photo elsewhere in iPhoto than that Flickr set, and then having those edits updated to Flickr without you realizing or intending.

More info about my question - there is an emanating wave or broadcast signal icon beside each Flickr album name in the iPhoto source menu. It looks a bit like the Airport signal icon along the top bar of the computer screen. When you click on it, the sync symbol appears and goes round and round for awhile. So that is how you manually sync Flickr albums and sets I guess.
Yes, even if you just click on the set to look at it in iPhoto, you will usually see the little "broadcast" icon indicate it is checking the set against the Flickr set. Usually you see one of several icons. The little broadcast icon like the airport signal simply indicates that the set is synced to a Flickr set but is currently idle. When you click that icon or the set, the icon changes to a circle. A couple of swirling arrows in the circle indicates it is checking online. If there are updates then the circle goes blank and you start to see an advancing pie piece indicating how much of the sync is complete. If the circle just sits there blank for a long time, then the sync has stalled or not working.
One album has the symbol, and two don't. These are the two I had trouble with today (deleting and re-uploading, etc.)
The album that has the symbol also has a link at the top of the photos to the page on Flickr containing that photo set.
The two albums that don't have the symbol do not display a link to the appropriate Flickr page. The corresponding sets are both visible on Flickr, however, as I said.
Perhaps I should start all over?
Ah, ok that answers the question I asked above. Sounds like the two albums somehow got de-linked from Flickr. Both sets show up on the left side under the Flickr listings?
If that is the case, you have a couple of options.
One is if you are satisfied with the set as it appears over in Flickr and don't really have a need to keep a live link between the two (Flickr and iPhoto) you can probably delete those sets from our of iPhoto's "Flickr" albums and your Flickr sets will stay.
On the other hand, if you wish to keep a live link to the two albums so you can continue to edit or update the album, keywords, photos, etc. then you probably want to redo those two.
Unfortunately as I said above, I don't know how to get an album to RE-link back to Flickr once that link has been broken and where it has happened to me I either have removed the set from iPhoto, removed the set and all photos from Flickr (using the Flickr web site tools), then recreating the set in iPhoto and clicking the Flickr upload button again to recreate the whole thing. Or I leave the set on Flickr and continue to work with it directly at Flickr using other tools to add additional photos and doing all my edits on the set or the photos from the Flickr website itself.

  • Help with disappearing photos

Loaded my twins 3rd B-Day photos, all was going well.   Sorting them when all of the sudden a handful disappeared.  I see them at the bottom and when you look at a complete album on the screen, but when I try to click and just look at a single picture, a bunch of them show up with a black screen and a triangle with a ! sign.  No clue what happened and when try to share, these select photos will not 'share'.  They are not in the trash bin either.  Again, the mystery is that I see the photos at the bottom of the screen and when multiple photos are showing the screen.  HELP?????

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Disappearing photos

I am trying to import photos into iphoto. If I click on the photo which is on a dvd-r it disappears. If I click on the folder a message appears which basically states iphoto can't import the jpg file. I made the dvd on a windows xp machine and I know the files are there because if I go to another windows machine I can see them. How do I get these pics into iphoto
    thank you

    Michael:
Drag the image files to the desktop first. Then import from there.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Perplexing iPhoto issue - disappearing photos.

Currently have iPhoto 9.2.3, but also have a few other versions as a result of a so-called computer tech trying to resolve my problem. Which is, most of my photos disappeared. I see gray screen with white borders but no photos. Unless, I scroll quickly throught the gray screen. Then, I can glimpse the photos, but as soon as I stop scrolling the photos are gone.
What is going on here? How can I recapture my photos?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Did it disappear just from the Dock maybe? Open the Applications folder & if there drag it to the Dock.
Otherwise, Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

  • Duplication issue related to photo stream, Moments, and how iPhoto handles images coming in from the stream.

Pre-iOS 8 deleting photos from the stream was easy & comprehensive while within the 1000 pic/30 day window. Deletions affected ALL DEVICES, including the iPhoto Library. It just worked. This was controlled from the Cameral Roll.
Now that the Camera Roll is back, the function described above wasn’t restored. Streamed images are copied to the Library and do not get removed as before when deletions happen from the Camera Roll or from the Streamed album.
In iOS Moments LOADS of duplicate pairs appear as a result. One of each pair has a trash can and the other doesn’t. The trash can one informs the user that the photo will be deleted from the stream and all devices, but it does not delete the image from the Library on the Mac.
Can we get the pre-iOS8 image management from Cameral Roll back without having to re-delete images from iPhoto Library on the Mac. Otherwise what’s the point of the photo stream?
    Mac Pro w/10.9.5
    iPhone 6 w/ iOS 8.1
    iPhoto 9.5.1 w/ 8052 images
Using photo stream, but NOT iCloud betas

Anything you save to the camera roll automatically gets put into the photo stream. You do not need to import and export to the computer as ckuan said. I have saved from email and the web and when they get saved they go into the photo stream automatically.

  • Disappearing Photo E-Mail

If I try to e-mail a photo to someone and then get a call or it can't find edge service, where does the draft of the e-mail go? It doesn't pop up in the outgoing mail box, it just seems to disappear. It's very annoying when going to send a photo and writing in the e-mail to go with it.

Hmmm, interesting. I'll have to try that to see if it happens to me too.
EDIT. Yup, happens to me too. I took a pic, started to email it, and called myself from my land line. I answered, hung up, and it took me back to the camera. I lost my email. I went to the email app and checked the email account, and I could have sworn I saw a no-subject email in my trash for a second, but the account updated and the message disappeared.
In any case, this is either a bug or a "feature". Let Apple know you want your unfinished emails saved in the drafts folder of your default mail account.
