Disappearing Photoshop and Safari Icons

Weird problem...
I recently backed up 2GB of jpgs to a DVD. After doing so, I mounted the disc to check it...and I noticed that the jpgs on the disc did not have the standard visual thumbnail identifying the picture. I decided to "drag copy" a couple of them back on the desktop, and see if there was an actual image where it was supposed to be.
In do so ... and in the middle of the drag/drop movement ... my whole computer froze up! Curser froze ... dock froze ... everything. I finally had to push the start button on the front of the computer and reboot.
After everything came back up... all the Photoshop CS icons have become invisible, with the exception of a extremely faint dotted line where the thumbnail image above the file name use to be.
Also, a few safari links on the desktop have gone invisible too... but not all of them like in Photoshop.
I have run disk first aid... permissions...reset the PRAM....but no change. Still invisible thumbnails concerning all Photoshop CS jpgs.
Before all this happened, I did transfer some Windoze XP jpg files from someones flash drive. And then later, I noticed a .DS_Store file started showing up all over the place! Well, I ran a fix and solved that issue. But could that be related to the vanishing Photoshop icons? How can I get my Photoshop jpg thumbnails to come back? Even when I create a brand new jpg, it will go invisible also.
Thanks so much for any ideas and or answers, I'm stumped.

Safari should be in the Dock.
    There's only one Safari app.

did all that before.  Nothing.  It's made apps disappear too even though when plugged in itunes thinks they are still on the phone. And you can't reinstall the app store!
After talking to apple this evening going to Apple store next week.  Person on the phone did admit that sometimes apple make lemons... 3 days old and it has already locked about 3 times.  £600 dud!

  • How to restore safari icon and internet after updating 3gs to ios6.1

How do I restore internet function and Safari icon after updating iPhone 3gs to ios 6.1?

The Safari icon cannot be deleted. Go to Settings > General > Restrictions, verify you didn't turn it off.
Otherwise try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout.

  • Photoshop and the Windows 7 Taskbar Jump List

One great tool for Windows 7 users is the Taskbar. start up Photoshop and the icon will show up in the taskbar. Right-click on that icon and you can pin it to the taskbar for one-click launch. The best thing about this is the list (aka "Jump List") of the 10 most recent files you will see if you right-click on the taskbar icon. You can also edit this list to remove files that you have deleted or simply pin a file to the list. Click on a file anywhere in the list and it will open.  But what if you would like to increase the number of recent files?  You can,and here's how:
Right-click on a vacant spot in the taskbar.  Click on Properties in the context menu. Then click on the Start Menu tab. Now follow the screenshot:
You can set that jump list number up to 60 items, but your screen resolution is the limiting factor. I can set it up to 25,much better than 10 and it is for all icons in the taskbar. It's a quick way to open a file without opening Bridge or going to the File > Open Recent files list in PS.
This tip doesn't make the rounds too often and it's worth a repeat. I can only vouch for Windows 7, let us know if it works in Vista or XP.

Good plan.  You'll like my Configure the Windows 8 "To Work" Options book too if you go that route.  No, Windows 8 does not offer compelling reasons to move up.  In fact a lot of stuff is just deleted that had value.  Virtually no one can figure out what Microsoft's "strategy" is with this - I've come to conclude they don't really have a concerted strategy, and they're just trying to cover it up with Marketing BS.
About the only things I've seen going for Windows 8 are:
It's oriented toward tablets, so there will be some new tablet offerings coming out that will run a flavor of it.
It's pared down to such an extreme that it runs noticeably leaner and faster on a desktop system.
There's a cheap upgrade available ($39.99 if you have any older version of Windows).
    Obvious negatives:
Completely revamped Start screen with the desktop being put off to the side.  Desktop apps considered "legacy" now.
No start button, but non-obvious "hot corners" you have to just know about.
Little attempt to make it possible to use just the mouse and click on stuff, as has been the tradition.
No visual styles on the desktop at all, making it look plain and flat, and making it difficult to use multiple applications at once.
Microsoft wanting you to walk through their online App Store at every turn.
There's a web page describing all the useful stuff they've removed...  It's no wonder the upgrade is going to be cheap:

  • Safari and mail icons disappear

The Safari and Mail icons keep disappearing from the dock on my iMac. I've dragged them back from the Applications folder, and they disappear again within seconds. If I open the applications from the Apllications Folder, the icons appear on the right side of the dock. Then, as soon as I close the applications the icons disappear. I've deleted the dock preferences file, and i"ve also disabled dock synching from Mobile Me, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions ?

Have you checked all your homescreens and app folders for them, and do they show on the iPad's spotlight search screen (swipe your first homescreen to the right and type in Safari or Mail) ?
Safari can be hidden via Settings > General > Restrictions > Safari being 'off', so you could check that as well.
If you still can't find then try a reset and see if you can find them after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot
There is also Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout which will reset the layout of your apps and might make it easier to find them.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Email and safari disappeared

February 11, 2014  - Email and Safari have disappeared from my IPod Touch.  By this I mean the icons are still there, but it opens only to a white screen.  Everything was working this morning and then a couple of hours later they were gone.  What is going on?  How can this be fixed?

Okay, I figured how to fix it by rebooting the IPod.  I held down the home button and the power button until the Apple logo appeared.  When it appeared I stopped holding down the buttons and waited for the IPod to start up on its own.  It took several seconds, but then finally clicked onto my home screen.  I checked my mail and safari and they were both working again!  I'm not sure why the problem occured.  I read somewhere that Gmail was having some kind of "bug" problem, which might have caused a glitch perhaps.

  • Why has my safari icon disappeared from the applications bar after the recent software update?

Everything was working perfectly until I uploaded the most recent software update. When I restarted my laptop I found that the Safari icon had disappeared from my applications bar.  If I go to my 'recent places' and click on Safari it then reappears but only until I close the laptop down as the next time I start it up, it's nowhere to be seen.  Can anyone help?

by applications bar you mean "dock"? After you click on recent places and start safari it will reappear in the dock and at this point you will want to control + click (right click) on the SAFARI icon and hover to options, make sure that "KEEP IN DOCK" has a check mark next to it. If it does not, click that option. Now it will keep the Safari Icon in your dock.

  • Safari icon disappearing?

Occasionally when I tap on the safari icon it just disappears. It doesn't just blip out, but instead fades out like it was built into the OS. The dock acts like the icon is still there, like an invisible icon. Moving the icons on the dock around does make the icon appear, but it doesn't open safari when tapped, and can't be moved around.Powering off the device makes the icon reappear and start working again. Safari cann still be accessed through spotlight and other 'backdoors'. I'm running ios 5.0.1 on an iPod touch 4g. What can I do?

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod

  • Browse and Games icons have disappeared

    Hi
My browse, favorites and Games icons have completely disappeared, when I go to my app I can see all the games installed, however I can not find them on my blackberry. I have already tried to updated it but says I have the latest version of software.
Could you please help me on what do it to recover them.
    Many Thanks

If you don't know the restrictions code then do you know if it was  on the iPad when you last backed up ? If not then you can restore to that backup and it should be removed. If it was on the iPad when you last backed up then the only way to remove it is to reset the iPad back to factory defaults and you can then re-sync your content back to the iPad - you won't be able to restore to the backup as that will keep the code in place.

One from the dock and the one on the desktop.

In Finder, select the item. Choose File > Get Info (or do ⌘I). Look under General > Kind. Does it read "Alias" or does it read "Application (Intel)"?
If the latter, then it is likely that you're not allowed to delete because it's actually open. Quit Safari. Check if there is an item called Safari in your </Applications> folder. (In Finder, you can get directly to the Applications folder using ⇧⌘A -- that's Shift-Command-A.) Check if it's an application. If it is, then you have an unneeded copy of Safari. You can delete the one on your Desktop. If there isn't, them move the one on the Desktop to the Applications folder -- that's where it belongs.
