Disappearing Photoshop CS5
I've loaded and reloaded Photoshop CS5 on my iMac four times. It runs for a day or so then disappears. Not appearing on finder. It's as thjough it has been uninstalled.
It could be some kind of disk or directory error. Try running Disk Utility, and repairing permissions and repairing disk if necessary.
I also highly recommend Disk Warrior ($99.95) http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/
I run Disk Warrior once a month. It rebuilds all your directories, which makes your Mac boot and run faster.

Photoshop CS5.5 Layers partially disappear. Cannot get them back.
Adobe CS5.5 Photoshop running on Mac OS X.
This is a brand new installation, just purchased and installed last week, and this is the first graphic heavy task I have attempted using Photoshop CS5.5. I was working in a document (photo-manipulation) and eveyrthing was going very, very smoothly. I was using mostly Masks. The issue ocurred immediately after I tried to apply a Hue/Saturation effect to the topmost layer. All the layers experienced partial disappearing. Even though they appear whole in the layers tab, on the stage huge parts are missing.
See this screenshot:
I tried to undo the Hue/Saturation, close Photoshop completely and reopen, and double checking the settings on each layer. I was saving as I went along but even closing without saving and re-opening the file did not help much. Most of the disppeared portions have returned, but there are still "chunks", sort to speak, that are "missing". I have spent about four hours on this piece so far, and I really do not want to have to go back and re-do the "missing" parts (that are not really missing just not showing up). And the layer with the knight is not supposed to be black, Photoshop did that all on its own. O.o
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to get all of each layer back visible? I have used Photoshop CS2 and I have Photoshop CS4 on my other computer, but I have never had this happen in any of the earlier versions. And this being the first time I used Photoshop CS5.5 for more than just saving screenshots... Yeah. Any ideas?
~JacquelynOn your recommendation, I tried turning off the OpenGL and restarted Photoshop. I also checked the blend settings. No change. I am beginning to think that perhaps the missing "chunks" on the various layers were somehow deleted. Though I did not select nor delete anything. It is very curious. I wish I knew what happened (or what I did by accident) so I can prevent this type of thing from happening in the future.
Anyway, I spent a few extra hours re-doing the parts that were "missing" and now the piece is finished. http://fav.me/d49b0sz

Layers palette disappears in photoshop cs5
My layers palette disappears in photoshop cs5 (64 bit and 32) any time I click on another tab such as histogram or info. It also disappears after PS opens and CS live starts. The layers tab is still there but the layers themselves go away. I can get them back by clicking on the tab. A minor problem but is starting to get real aggravating as it disrupts workflow. I tried Ctrl+alt to reset. Doesn't help. Uninstalled Creative Suite Production Premium CS5 with the remove preference box checked at least 8 times as well as using the Adobe Creative Suite cleaner tool. I have gone as far as removing EVERYTHING Adobe on my machine and deleting every adobe reference in the registry, every file with the Adobe name on it. If it had Adobe on it it was deleted.Cleaned and defraged the drives and registry. My Premiere Pro also has problems with the start up screen. I just cannot get a clean install of CS5 no matter what I have done, short of wiping my hard drive. Any ideas?

Photoshop CS5 interface locking up and windows disappearing in OSX Mountain Lion?
Hi,
This has suddenly started happening to me using Photoshop CS5 on my mac running the latest version of Mountain Lion. When I open a PSD file at first it doesn't appear to be there. If I check under the "view" menu the interface says that the document is open. If I use tab to switch between views, the document appears and the palettes on the right disappear. Tab again and the interface reappears around the document, palettes are still gone but they are replaced by transparent grey blocks where the palettes should be. I can't bring up any new palettes and I can't move the document window. If I have multiple documents open, one remains in front even though the titles in the title bar change.
I've reinstalled Java. Unistalled and reinstalled Photoshop CS5 but nothing is working. I've opened Photoshop CS3 and it works fine.
Has anybody else expereinced this or have any idea what's going on?
Thanks for any adviceHi Chris,
No I don't have any utilities or haxies. The only thing that I know I did before the issue was remove a trial version of Flash CS6 and I installed Flash CS3 (I was working with an old FLA and the new text tools in Flash CS5 were making editing difficult). That's why I thought reinstalling Photoshop might help. I thought perhaps I'd overwritten or removed an important file. There have also been a few minor updates to the OS recently.
I ran a diagnostic with tech tool pro and as far as it can tell the video card is good.
Regarding Java: when OSX Lion came out users were required to download and install run time for Java in order for Adobe Products to function. Some of the issues seemed similar to what I'm experiencing. This is from adobe help: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/install-java-jre-mac-os.html -
Am using Photoshop Cs5 12.0 32 bit.. ma os iz windows 7 ultimate... now I have noticed that ma 3d panel in ma ps is disappeared.. Plz help me.....
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the applications. When we purchased the new computer it was set up from scratch, but as I said the old user profile was transferred. The original problems of photoshop freezing and the system locking up continued, and so everything was set up again from scratch I believe.
Also, I may have been unclear as to my definition of crashing. It was freezing everything previously, and then two days ago, just the photoshop program started "quitting unexpectedly" on opening, each and every time I tried to use it.
The new user profile worked for the majority of today, but froze the screen during a photoshop distort transform and I was unable to do anything, but switch the machine off at the back and reboot. (this is what was happening prior to me receiving the error report I copied onto the original post). I can only presume it is going down the same route and will be doing the above again once I am using it at full pace again.
The old user profile is still on the computer, and on the new user profile we have not included the Outlook software as we weren't sure whether this may be affecting it, as the problems have become increasing worse since this has been on computer.
Because everything has been ongoing and on two machines, it is starting to become very unclear as to whether it is a hardware, software/ operating system problem, or network issue. The computer has also been configured to run windows bootcamp.
I have been passing on the information as it is coming in, and any more ideas will be gratefully received. I have already been told we can return the original RAM into the computer next week, to see if this helps, and I may try to download CS5 from the Adobe website, rather than using the CD's as it was suggested that this may help??! Either way I am unable to carry out any of my work until this resolved so I am willing to try any solutions!

Mouse cursor disappear using photoshop cs5.5
mouse cursor disappear using photoshop cs5.5 ( IMAC MID 2010 )
Before proceeding further, it is to be highlighted that the version being referred to is Photoshop CS5 Extended which is actually Photoshop Version 12.1 and is a part of Adobe Master Collection CS5.5. A screenshot of the version information is attached below for information.
Hence, I dont understand the concern expressed by many about the lowest version eligible for scripting being available in the product.
My version is in effect 12.1 and not 7 or 8.
Accordingly someone may advise on what script to use for inserting the EXIF data onto the image. I also want that the positioning of the text is predetermined and same for a batch of images required to be processed. I dont want to fix the position of text for each individual image. -
Photoshop CS5.1 Actions Disappeared
I am using Photoshop CS5.1 on a Mac. When launching Photoshop from Lightroom, I got an unexpected error (don't recall now what it said). Unfortunately, my custom workspace and all of my actions (default and user-defined) are gone. I utilize these actions heavily in my workflow and need them back ASAP. I have a good backup system, but when I click Load Actions from the Actions Palette, the default location [UserName]>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CS5.1>Presets>Actions folder is empty (and backup files of this folder are empty long before I had this problem). Interestingly, my [UserName]>Library>Preferences>Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Settings file still has an Actions Palette.psp file in it. I have shut down and rebooted many times without success. Any idea what I can do to get these actions back? I’m hoping it’s a matter of pointing Photoshop back to my preferences some how. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as it would take days I don’t have to recreate all of my custom actions from scratch. Thanks!
If you have the files on your system backed up you may be okay. The actions you see in the panel are stored in a file called Actions panel.psp. It's location is as listed here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-functions-names-locations.html
If you quit Photoshop, recover the prior version of Actions panel.psp via TimeMachine or whatever, then relaunch Photoshop you should see your old actions.
Good luck.

LR5 Spot Removals disappear when choosing "Edit in... Photoshop CS5"
This is quite frustrating. I go over my photo and remove dust specs in LR5, then choose to edit the image further in Photoshop CS5 (Right click or Cmd+E -> Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5). When the photo opens in Photoshop all the Spot Removals I have done are *gone*! I can not say I have noticed this before, and I have been using LR5 since it became available. But now nothing helps - It keeps doing this, no matter how many times I close PS and LR and re-open. Spot Removal just keeps getting reset when I wanna edit a photo in Photoshop.
I shot a video of it, which can be viewed or downloaded here: http://cl.ly/280R2p09341u
Hope this gets fixed soon, or someone can provide some tips. Incredibly annoying...
I'm on an iMac 2013, OS X 10.8.4.
Photoshop CS5, Version 12.0.4 x64
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, Version 5.0LR 5 is using the equivalent of ACR 8.1 and in Photoshop CS5 the latest ACR version is ACR 6.7 so they are nt 100% compatible. You should be getting a pop up warning dialog. You need to choose render using Lightroom (or words to that effect). If you do not see any warning dialog you may have disabled it.
In Lightroom 5 go to menu bar Edit> Prefrences> General tab> under prompts at the bottom of the dialog box select "Reset all warning dialogs"
Try again and you should get the option to make the correct choice. Do not choose "Open anyway" -
I am using Photoshop CS5 on a new iMac with a wireless keyboard. I used to be able to hit F11 to perform a custom sharpening action but now the F11 key is the volume control key and I have tried everything to disable or switch the volume key. I have also tried assigning other function keys to initiate the action. Is there a simple solution to this? What am I missing?
Try unmounting the volume on your iMac using Disk Utility. Then mount it again. You may need to reboot the laptop or relaunch its Finder process (using the Force Quit window) after remounting the drive on your iMac. Remember that no process may be accessing any files on the drive you plan to unmount, or the unmount will fail. Unmounting and remounting an external drive on my iMac made it become visible on my MacBook Pro after it had disappeared.

Having problems copying and pasting in Photoshop CS5
Hi,
I'm running Photoshop CS5 on my laptop (Win 7) and desktop (Win 8).
When I have three documents open and open a New one, I can't get the others to copy and paste by keys or menus...not even by dragging to the new document.
Same thing happens in both version of Windows. The images are all jpgs, RGB, 8 bit.
Also, sometimes when I create a New doc, one of the other images suddenly disappear.
Any ideas what's going on here?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
BiffYou probably simply crash your graphics acceleration by exhausting all resources. Turn off openGL in the prefs and/or update your graphics driver.

Photoshop CS5 serial number not working?
I bought and downloaded Photoshop CS5 from this site about two years ago, and since then have purchased a new computer. I want install CS5 on this new computer, but my account isn't listing CS5 under my lists of products. When I try and register the serial number I found under my program's System Info, I get an error message that says my serial number isn't valid.
A little while ago, adobe had an information leak and my account was one of the ones listed as possibly compromised- could this be the issue?
If not, why won't it let me register CS5 to my account? I really want it on my new computer. I purchased the product legitimately and I don't want my money disappearing after only two years.Explain your situation to Customer Support, and see if you can submit some sort of proof. For example a credit card statement. Your bank can help you with that. See if your ISP can fish up the email.
Also if you purchased it as an Educational discount, you might get in touch with that section.
We are users and perhaps a Staff member may drop by, but for now that's the best advice. -
Photoshop CS5 crashes before opening
I've been running Photoshop CS5 since it was launched and largely without problem.
Today, I installed a trial version of PTGui and that ran OK, but later I found I couldn't open Photoshop.
I re-installed the system twice, but to no benefit. Any ideas, please ? Thanks.

I've trashed the latest plug-ins and no improvement.
After I'd installed the two latest plug-ins, I noticed that the Plug-ins that had previously worked OK had disappeared from the Filters list. It was whilst attempting to recover that, I changed the Photoshop Preferences Plug-in Folder to the Addobe Photoshop CS5 main folder. I restarted Photoshop and haven't seen it since.
I can't get back int to reet that and as well as re-installing from the original discs, I copied across a copy of the whole folder from a back-up drive and that didn't work either. CS3 is installed and that works OK.
Could the change in Plug-in directory be causing this and if o, is possible to change the Preference ?
Lightroom is now asking for Photoshop Camera Raw Plug-in version 6.5 for full compatability and suggests to update in the Photoshop Help Menu. This happens when trying to Edit in Photoshop from Lightroom. So this is a bad news.
I do have a week old copy f my software drive to fall back on if all else fails, but I don't know if a simple fix is possible before going back to that. Plus it may not work.
Thanks. -
Adobe Photoshop CS5 3D Menu missing, need solution ASAP
I recently made a 3D Wallpaper and when im gonna make one again the 3D menu is gone. I don't know if it is because of update or something, but when i searched for an answer or a solution in Google, i've found multiple comments regarding the license or the video card but i don't think both of that are the problem because like i said i just recently made a wallpaper using 3D. Here are some images that can show you my problem.
Here's the 3D Wallpaper that i made using Adobe Photoshop CS5...
Here's the image of my problem...
Need your help ASAP Adobe Support Team, thanks!Your situation can happen if you had downloaded the PS CS5 trial (which is Extended) then activated it, finally, but had only purchased Standard, so the Extended features were deactivated.
A video card or memory issue would cause the 3D menu to gray out, but not disappear entirely. Not having extended, now, when you used to is more a licensing issue. Have you purchased PS CS5 Extended from Adobe? Licensing issues are best sorted out via a call to Adobe support, which can be a lesson in patience. -
Buggy Brush Behavior in Photoshop CS5 / Lion
I have a problem that has suddenly appeared in Photoshop CS5 (current version 12.0.4). Using it on a recent MacBook Pro.
I am running this under Lion, and have been doing so ever since I installed the new system (about a week or two after Lion was released). Until yesterday, no problems at all.
The problem is with the brush tool.
I open a new document.
Click on Brush Tool icon (or hit "B" key).
Move my cursor to the document. The cursor DOES NOT show the outline of the current brush as it should. Instead, it shows the Move arrow.
I click on the Trackpad.
The brush paints according to the brush style selected. That, at least, is as it should be (despite the appearance of the wrong cursor)
But I then click on the Brush tool again.... and, this is the weird part. The brush "paints" another dot - kind of next to where the icon is in the toolbox.
Then, WHEREVER I click, I get another brush dot in the document. Even if I click any of the other tools in the toolbox, each click gives me another dot from the brush.
This makes using CS5 virtually impossible. CS3 works as it should.
Any ideas on fixing this.
Thanks.
D. RehrI also have experienced very erratic and odd behaviour with the brushes in Photoshop CS5.1 (version 12.1) under Lion 10.7.2.
For example, sometimes I am clicking in the toolbox (on the left of the canvas) and the brush is making strokes on the canvas! Unbelievable...
Other odd behaviors include when I am changing the size of the brush with the bracket keys. Sometimes the circle disappears completely, only to come back once I bump up to another size (actually, it is usually a range of sizes that don't work, but it works normally above or below that range. Haven't pinned down the range though.)
Another thing that happens is when I am changing the size of the brush with the bracket keys, the circle around the brush area jumps up to the left, then back to where I had placed it, again, only for a certain range of sizes. The circle itself also disappears at times.
Sometimes ditching the Photoshop preference file appears to work for me, but the problem just comes back again (and I hate resetting all of my preferences for no reason!).
I have tried restarting Photoshop, restarting my Mac, zapping PRAM, and resetting the SMC, all to no avail!
Please help (Apple, Adobe)!!!
Anybody have any other ideas, fixes? -
Photoshop CS5 not actually saving files to SMB shares
Since upgrading to OS X 10.6.6 (and still in 10.6.7) Photoshop CS5 will not reliably save documents to SMB shares on my file server. When I "Save As" a new document, Photoshop goes through all the motions of saving the file. It seems to complete successfully. No error messages. The asterix in the documents title bar disappears as if the file saved. If you command-click on the document's title bar icon it will display the file path properly, as if the file was properly saved and exists. If, however, you go to the folder on the server where the document was supposedly saved using the Finder (or on a Windows machine in the Windows Explorer) the file does not exist. It was never actually saved.
This seems to happen mostly with larger files (over, say, 100MB in size) as oppsed to smaller files. If I change my connection to the server to AFP as opposed to SMB(CIFS) the file saves correctly without any problems.
Has anybody else ever encountered this problem? I have only noticed this issue since upgrading past OS X 10.6.5.
Thanks! This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
See:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.
